Chapter 8
Instructions to Control
Jyoti and i followed Keesha to the top floor where the tower is located. The blood scent was getting even more stronger now but came in wiffs. As we reached to the tower it was dark and had a scary feel to it. Everything was still and the shadows of moonlight were peering through the windows like on the other floors. We flew up towards the ceilings to catch a breath and hooked our bat feet onto an old rusty beam "Hope this beam can hold us!" i say worried. The girls reinsured me that we as bats would be a lot lighter then if we were humans and that the beam should stay in place with us 3 hanging from it. The sounds of the resident bats were much louder now and we could see that in some of the pools of moonlight we could see bat babies being fed by their mom "So cute! Jyoti says "The mother bats are feeding milk to their babies", "Well thats normal!" Keesha answers "They appear to be normal bats!". As we observed all the bats up here were all normal, none appeared to be the blood sucking bats that we came across earlier "This night just keeps getting weirder and weirder and i still smell blood!" i say in confusion almost shouting on the top of my lungs. "Shhh Ralphie!" Keesha warns me "Whoever it is or whatever it is might hear us! We need to stay hidden! In the shadows!", spoken like a true supernatural being i thought. However she was right we didn't want to be seen in this state "but they might be able to help us!" Jyoti whispers. Jyoti was right this could be our saviour. I wondered if perhaps it might be Professor Frizzle or Ms Frizzle her sister (Fiona) come to reverse the spell and save us, somehow knowing of what has been happening in this castle. The footsteps were getting louder although they began to slow down and a flickered light started to appear. The 3 of us all had a view of the staircase from which the footsteps were coming from but it was still very dark and even if we did see something or someone there it would be difficult to spot. Their light was continuing to flicker. We were unable to tell if it was light from a torch or a flame. Feeling nervous we hung still as was awaited our visitor.
The footsteps stopped and the light shoun brightly as we noticed that our visitor had reached the top of the stairs. We remained slient although the you could still hear the sound of the mother and baby bats around us squeaking away as they were being fed. Then we heard a sound, it sounded like it was coming from the visitor. It was a "Hmmm" sound and the 3 of us identifed it as a female voice shortly before they had turned off their flickering torch light. All i could think about apart from blood was could this be one of the Frizzle sisters come to save us?. I began to fidget "Ralphie? Come yourself down remain still otherwise we might be discovered!" Keesha whispers to me as she had noticed that was not keeping still. "Why do you think, she turned off her torch?" Jyoti whispers in question, "Maybe to not try and scare the bats?" i tell her hoping that that was the reason. The visitor began to walk again and the sound of her footsteps sounded like they were getting closer. She sounded like she was now beneath us but it was too hard to see. Keesha, Jyoti and i hung tight. I could smell her blood. Her blood was what i was craving, it smelt as sweet as pumpkin pie. I wondered if the girls could smell it too "She smells so good!" i whisper to Jyoti and Keesha, "We know Ralphie but control yourself, she could be our saviour! If we bite her she could become like us! Do you want to stay as blood sucking bats forever?" Keesha says as she and Jyoti try to restrain me. I was really fidgetting now. The sweet smell, it was like it was sending me in a trance and i felt myself beginning to take flight! "RALPHIE! NO!" were the words i hear squeaking out of Keesha's and Jyoti's mouths loudly. "Control yourself Ralphie!" i hear a voice say from below me before suddenly a light from a torch shines in front of me blinding me. I find myself beginning to fly uncontrollably, everything was flashing before my eyes. I could not find how to get back to Keesha and Jyoti! I began to panic not realising that i could dangerously hurt myself but it was too late. Everything went dark.
"Ralphie? Ralphie wake up Ralphie!" i hear a gentle voice. "Mom?" i say with my eyes closed and begin to stretch "I just had the craziest nightware! Keesha, Jyoti and i were at the castle near the lake to get ideas for a comic i am making and we...we entered and got bitten by blood sucking bats! Then we became blood sucking bats ourselves unable to turn back into humans!". "Ralphie!" i hear the voice again although this time i didn't sound like my Mom's. I get worried as i rub my eyes. Something did feel odd as what i was sitting on felt hard not soft like a bed. "Ralphie! Are you ok?" finally i hear a familar voice, "Ralphie are you hurt?" two familar voices i heard. Ok something tells me that this is not a dream. I slowly begin to open my eyes as i sit myself up from the hard floor "Keesh? Jyoti? Is that you?" i answer to them. "Easy Ralphie, that was quite a nasty bump you had!" there went that voice again, i glupped as i immediately realised that we had been discovered by the female visitor! By this stage my eyes were now fully open, as i blink i could see a tall big black figure towering over me. I was unable to see Keesha and Jyoti though "Keesha? Jyoti?" i cry, "Up here!" i hear them both say as i manage to spot them still in their bat forms on the ceiling. I look down at myself to find that i too was also still in my bat form. "Wahhh!" i squeak "This is totally not a dream!", "I hate to say no its not Ralphie, all this is real and i am here to help you and your friends!" the voice tells me coming from the black figure that was over me. I was still feeling very uneasy "Who? Who are you?" i ask to the voice "You not going to shine anymore torches are you?". Jyoti and Keesha fly down to be with me "So glad your ok Ralphie!" Keesha says "You gave us quite a scare!" Jyoti then says, i was very happy to them but i really wanted to know who our mysterious visitor was. Keesha and Jyoti didn't at all seem fazed "Who, what, when, why, how?" i say to them not knowing where to start. "Its ok, he is back to normal! Well...almost normal!" i hear Keesha saying only it wasn't to me but to the mysterious visitor. Then before i could ask anymore questions, I begin to hear movement and the black figure starts to walk away. As she gets away from me, i get a whiff of her blood "That smell again! So sweet, so heavenly!" I start to say. "Oh no he is beginning to be in a blood trance again!" Jyoti screams, "Control Ralphie! Control your thirst and resist!" i heared the voice telling me, a real voice!
I start to look around the room for her as i still was unable to see her "Where are you? Who are you?" I ask in demand. "Don't worry i'll show you, i just cannot be near you right now and don't worry no torches this time!" the voice answers "but keep controlling your thirst, control!. The voice kept saying control in her sentences. Could this night get even crazier? She didn't sound like any of the Frizzle sisters, however simular. "Come on Ralphie! Please listen to her, she is here to help us! She has helped Jyoti and I to resist the blood thrist" Keesha says to me along with Jyoti who was also trying to give me encouragement "Control Ralphie! We are one step closer to becoming human again! You need to trust her!" Jyoti tells me, "Becoming human again? Trust her? That all sounds great! Ok control yourself Ralphie! Control! Hang on! Who is this lady anyway!?" i shout.
