Chapter Thirty Four
Four days have elapsed since Erin patiently sat by Soifon's bedside, eagerly awaiting her awakening. Although many visitors had come and gone, Erin remained steadfast in her vigil, yearning for the moment when Soifon would open her eyes. Will had even assured Erin that Soifon's awakening was imminent.
In the meantime, Erin sat in the chair beside Soifon's bed, reluctant to leave the room and potentially miss the sight of her beloved waking up. As she gazed at Soifon's face, now nearly healed, Erin couldn't help but smile. Amidst her own healing process, with her facial injuries now resolved, Erin's focus remained on her lover.
Lost in her thoughts, Erin was oblivious to the door opening behind her until Will's composed voice broke through the silence. "Erin, may I speak with you for a moment? It is long overdue," the doctor with curly hair calmly addressed her.
In regarded Will with uncertainty before turning her attention to Soifon. "If you prefer, we can talk here briefly, and then I'll fetch the test results," Will offered, leaving the room without waiting for Erin's response.
Erin blinked as she observed Will's swift departure, leaving her perplexed about the nature of their conversation. His seriousness added to her confusion, and after a few minutes, Will returned with a folder of documents and pulled up a chair next to Erin.
"Is there an issue?" Erin inquired, peering into Will's deep blue eyes as he perused the pages. "Do you want to share the good news or the bad news first?" Will asked, prompting Erin to raise an eyebrow in response. "Whichever you prefer, but what is the major concern?" Erin inquired.
Taking a deep breath, the doctor began, "Firstly, we have received the results from the test kit we had you take due to the actions of Jack, you know."
Erin accepted the sheet of paper from Will's outstretched hand, examining its contents before returning it to him. "I am aware of his actions," she said in a firm tone that conveyed her lack of comprehension rather than intentional harshness.
Will responded with a sigh and a shake of his head. "Regardless, I believe it would be prudent to conduct several tests on you," he stated as he produced a cup and offered it to Erin, causing her to raise an eyebrow in question. "And what is this for?" she asked, inspecting the plastic cup carefully.
"I would like to confirm whether or not you are pregnant, considering the circumstances involving Jack and the uncertain duration, not to mention the noticeable changes in your appearance," Will explained, causing Erin's green eyes to widen in shock. "What do you mean?" she asked, her grip on the cup tightening. She couldn't fathom the idea of being pregnant, yet she knew better than to argue with Will.
Attempting to reassure her, Will placed his hand on Erin's. "I simply wish to err on the side of caution," he reassured her gently. "Please go to the bathroom and provide a sample. I will be waiting here when you return."
Erin gazed at Will momentarily before briefly glancing at Soifon, then giving a nod. 'I will hasten,' she whispered, swiftly making her way to the bathroom and closing the door behind her. She anxiously complied with Will's instructions, her mind racing with thoughts.
Once she finished, she exited the bathroom, handing the cup to Will. She felt relieved that Soifon was still asleep, as she desired to be present when she woke. 'I shall return and inform you of the outcome,' he stated, leaving the hospital room and leaving Erin alone to contemplate.
Erin took a seat and held Soifon's hand in her own. 'Hello, I am aware that you can hear me. If it is within your capability, I implore you to awaken. You cannot remain in slumber for the entire week,' she whispered, gently placing a kiss on the top of Soifon's hand.
'Besides, I require your presence,' Erin murmured, tracing gentle circles on her lover's hand. She sighed softly, resting her head on the bed while still holding Soifon's hand. 'Come now, you indolent being. It has been four days.'
A soft, gentle voice reverberated through the tranquil room. 'I am not indolent; I was simply fatigued,' the voice affirmed. Erin's attention was caught, causing her to glance towards Soifon, whose azure eyes were now open, radiating a mischievous glint.
Caught in a momentary state of shock, Erin's mouth remained agape for a fleeting instant before she eagerly flung herself into her lover's embrace. 'You're awake,' she whispered, her voice barely audible, as Soifon reciprocated by encircling her in her arms.
After a prolonged hug, Erin gently disengaged herself and planted a tender kiss on Soifon's lips. 'You foolish one, you had me consumed with worry,' the brunette chided, her thumb slowly tracing circles against Soifon's cheek, eliciting a smile from her beloved.
Both women exchanged affectionate glances, their faces adorned with smiles, oblivious to the door stealthily opening behind Erin. 'Well, this is a delightful sight,' a smiling Will greeted as he entered the room, promptly closing the door behind him.
Soifon and Erin observed as Will approached them with a smile. The doctor proceeded to place his papers on a surface and retrieve a flashlight from his pocket. Will then proceeded to examine Soifon's eyes to assess her condition.
"You appear to be in good shape considering the duration of your unconsciousness," commented Will as he diligently checked Soifon's vital signs and was relieved to find everything was satisfactory. Soifon expressed her gratitude with a smile, saying, "Thank you, Will."
With a smiling nod, Will stated, "I will ask the nurses to check up on you shortly and determine our next course of action." He then shifted his attention to Erin and mentioned, "In any case, I am here to discuss the results with Erin." Erin appeared apprehensive as she glanced at Will.
Perplexed, Soifon inquired, "Results for what?" She gazed between Erin and Will, who exchanged glances before proceeding to explain their experiences during captivity, including Jack's reprehensible actions towards Erin.
Erin observed as Soifon tightened her hand into a fist." Erin asked with concern, "Are you alright?" Soifon gave her a look before nodding and replying, "Yes." Erin kissed Soifon's forehead and explained, "That's why Will had me do a pregnancy test. It was based on his intuition."
Soifon looked at Erin with wide eyes and asked, "Are you?" She didn't know what to think, but anger towards her adopted brother's actions filled her. Will stepped in and said, "That's what I'm about to reveal to you. I'm glad you're awake so you two can discuss things." He gently placed his hand on Erin's, who nodded in agreement.
Both women turned to Will, who let out a deep breath and stated, "The results of the pregnancy test came back positive." Erin's mouth hung open as she processed the news. Will assured her, "Take your time to consider this, if you're willing to have and raise the baby." He stood up and rested his hand on Erin's shoulder, emphasizing, "This is your choice, and when you're ready, you should inform Voight."
Erin gazed into space, her hand tense and relaxed as she observed Will exiting the room and closing the door behind him, granting the two women privacy. She expressed gratitude for Will's patience towards her.
The young woman, with her brown hair, could not fathom the fact that she was pregnant. She felt unsure of what to do and how to inform Voight and the others. However, she was determined not to vent her anger and confusion onto the unborn child, as she understood it was not the baby's fault. She nervously bit her lip.
Erin lifted her head when she felt a hand gently resting on hers. Soifon, with a concerned tone, inquired, "Are you alright?" Erin looked into her lover's affectionate blue eyes, uncertain of Soifon's thoughts on the matter and unable to decipher the expression on her face.
"It's alright," Soifon whispered, embracing Erin. "Whatever you decide, I will support you every step of the way." She kissed Erin's cheek and continued, "If you choose to keep this baby, I will assist you with anything you need."
Erin gazed at Soifon once they disengaged from their embrace. 'Are you confident in your decision, taking into consideration what transpired?' she inquired, sensing the potential inanity of the question yet desiring assurance. 'Yes, I am certain. We ought not to attribute blame to an innocent child,' Soifon whispered, drawing Erin closer for a profound kiss.
With her arms wrapped around her lover's neck, the brunette intensified the kiss, her eyes shut. Eventually, the two separated, and Erin met Soifon's gaze, her eyes a shade of blue. 'Even after you are discharged from this hospital and fully recovered, you shall be punished for causing me immeasurable worry,' Erin declared as she planted one final kiss on Soifon's lips.
Erin was pulled onto the bed next to Soifon. 'And what form will this punishment take?' she playfully inquired, wearing a smirk. 'You shall find out once you are released. Until then, let us simply embrace,' Erin suggested, and the two women clasped each other, eventually drifting off into a peaceful slumber.
