11th April, 1920
Jack woke up the following morning and didn't hear any movement in the house so assumed everyone was still asleep. He got ready as quietly as possible before creeping out his room to go downstairs, trying to avoid waking anyone up. As he walked past Tilly's room, he could hear muffled cries. He carefully opened the door and found her sat on her bed, holding both her teddy bears close. "Tilly? Are you OK?" He said concerned "where's my mummy?" She cried a little, watching as he Jack walked towards her. He sat on the edge of her bed and tried to give her a reassuring smile "I think she's still asleep sweetheart…" "oh" Tilly said sadly "would you like to go and wake her up?" He asked, but just got a blank stare in response "I know, are you hungry?" this time he got a nod in response "should we go downstairs and I'll make you some breakfast before I go to work, then you can colour until Mummy wakes up?" Tilly nodded again "come on then" he smiled, expecting her to climb out of bed, but instead she held her arms out "you want me to carry you?" He asked "yes please…" "come on then" he laughed and lifted her up, carrying her downstairs. Once in the kitchen, he shut the door to keep the noise from waking Rose and Sophia up "now, what do you want for breakfast? Would you like toast? cereal? eggs? pancakes?" "Toast please" she replied quietly "coming up" he smiled and made her some toast.
"Do you have to go to work?" She asked innocently "I'm afraid so sweetheart" Jack laughed, sitting with her at the table as she ate. It was 7.45 and he knew he was going to be late for work, but it was worth it if he could keep Tilly company whilst she had breakfast.
A few minutes later, Tilly had finished her toast "thank you" she said to Jack "you're welcome… I have to go to work now I'm afraid… would you like me to get you some paper and pencils and you can go in to the living room and do some drawing whilst you wait for mummy to wake up?" he said as he washed her plate "yes please" she nodded "come on then" he held out his hand and she took it. Walking in to the living room, Tilly sat down at the coffee table and Jack handed her some paper and pencils "OK, there's a cup of orange juice for you" he said, putting it down on the table "if you need anything, wake Mummy up, and I'll be back tonight, OK?" He said. She nodded and stood up, hugging his leg "bye bye Jack" "bye darling" he smiled and hugged her before leaving the house.

Rose woke up around half an hour later thanks to Sophia's cries "good morning" she yawned as she picked her daughter up "come on, let's go and find your sister" she said as the put Sophia down to put her dressing gown on. She lifted Sophia back up and walked to Tilly's room. She frowned, confused, seeing the bedroom empty, she went to check the bathroom but didn't find her in there. Panic began to rush through her, thinking Cal had somehow taken her. "Oh my god" she muttered to herself. "Tilly! Tilly!" she shouted, rushing round upstairs, trying to find her daughter. "I'm here Mummy!" Tilly shouted confused from the bottom of the stairs. Rose sighed with relief as she saw her and rushed downstairs to hug her daughter "oh thank god" she kissed her head "what are you doing down here?" "I woke up so I came downstairs with Jack… he gave me some paper to draw… look, I drew a picture of me, you, Sophia and Jack!" She held up the drawing, proudly "that's lovely baby" she replied, the panic beginning to leave her body. "Would you like some breakfast?" Rose asked "no thank you… Jack made me some toast" she smiled as she sat back at the coffee table, picking up the pencils again. "Oh, that was kind of him" she smiled and sat down on the sofa to feed Sophia. She watched as Tilly drew another picture "I like Jack, Mummy" Tilly said "I know darling… I like Jack too" "he's nice and funny" Tilly continued, getting a nod in response from Rose.

A while passed and Rose spoke up. "Shall we get you ready darling? We need to go to the store and we're going to see Mary today" she smiled "OK…" Tilly sighed "but can I finish my drawing when I get home?" She asked "of course you can" Rose nodded. Tilly had never really taken much of an interest in drawing and colouring before they moved here- maybe because she knew the staff and her Father wouldn't have allowed her to do either, but now Jack had shown her the ropes, she suddenly took a huge interest in it, much to Rose's delight.
