Halo 5.1 Guardians of Sera Chapter 46
"Marcus, can I, uh, can I ask how, um.." asked Baird
"The bomb works? Didn't my Dad tell you that?" asked Marcus.
"No. Dom. I just...wanna know" said Baird.
"Let's just get through this first" said Marcus.
"He saved our lives so we can be where we are right now. He was a hero. Let's just leave it at that" said Master Chief.
"He'll be missed" said Fred.
"Amen to that" adds Buck.
The team continues to work their way through the Azura hotel taking in the high class surroundings after fighting for scraps for a year and a half.
"Will you look at this place? I really thought I knew Prescott. It makes he sick he had this trillion dollar panic room all those years, while we were starving and dying!" said Anya.
"But he stayed with us all that time. I don't get it." said Marcus.
"Maybe to avoid any suspicion. Keep up the delusion that he cared for the COG while he retreated to his little summer home." suggested Vale.
"That's one theory." said Baird.
"Maybe after this is over, you could use this place to start over. Rebuild until you're ready to find new places to settle down." said Linda.
"What about you guys? What's next for you?" asked Anya.
"Cortana is our next mission. After this is over, we'll get as far away as we can to take the Coventant and Prometheans away from here. The last thing you need is another war after ending another." said Master Chief.
Marcus then calls the elevator.
"So the Professor says we're all infected with this Lambent shit?" asked Baird.
"Everything and and everyone. Imulsion is a parasitic life form." explained Anya.
"Goddamn. The friggin' Miracle Fuel is alive. Can he really kill it all?" asked Baird.
"Hey! We came all this way for Marcus' dad! Show some goddamn faith!" said Cole.
The Elevators arrived as the teams took them each up.
"Well...at least I'll die knowing I guessed right" said Baird.
"You're not gonna die Baird. Nobody else is gonna die!" assured Marcus.
"Has your Dad tested this bomb thing Marcus?" asked Marcus.
"Can we kill this goddamn noise!" asked Marcus having enough of the PA recordings.
Baird then pulled out his pistol and shot the speakers.
"Okay, faith, yeah, got it." said Baird.
"We're finishing this fight and we're all gonna make it. That's final." said Vale.
"Agreed" said Locke.
"Who woulda thought a a simple search and recover mission would lead to us saving a new world? Let alone helping to end a war." adds Buck.
"Our mission as Spartans is to protect humanity. No matter how far." said Master Chief.
The elevator reached the floor leading to the courtyard right outside where Adam Fenix is. Up ahead was more guards and a mortar operator.
"Dad, we're here. Just working on how to bypass this firefight" said Marcus.
"I can hear it Marcus. And Myrrah is tracking you. Watch your back." said Adam.
"Yeah she's been on our asses the whole way. Stand by!" said Marcus.
After clearing the courtyard they made it to the entrance which was locked. Marcus finds a Mulcher chain gun as the ground erupts with Lambent stalks. On top of that Prometheans.
"Ah, shit heads up! Glowies and Prometheans." said Buck.
"Jack, rip that door while we hold 'em off" said Anya.
Delta, Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris held off the forces of Drudges, Drones, Gunkers, Crawlers, and Knights while Jack was getting the door open.
"That's the last of 'em. Dad, we're on our way up." said Marcus.
"Come on. Get inside and barricade the doors!" orders Marcus.
"Look, if we all got a dose of this glowie imulsion, Isn't your Dad's bomb or whatever gonna affect us too? You know, fatally?" asked Baird.
"You think he'd risk that?" asked Marcus.
"It will work. Don't worry. And trust me Corporal Baird, I tested it" assured Adam.
"Block the door! Come on, Quick!" ordered Marcus."
"That won't stop a stalk or Prometheans! It'll piss off the Drudges and Knights for a few minutes." said Baird.
"Well that'll have to do. Dad, we're in. The Lambent are right behind us. Where's your lab?" asked Marcus.
"On the top floor. Watch out for Queen Myrrah, Marcus. She's desperate." cautioned Adam.
"Dad what's Myrrah up to? In your message, you said she doesn't realize you can't save the Locust." asked Marcus.
"This is a last stand for the Locust, too, Marcus. My device will kill the imulsion, but it'll harm the Locust too." explained Adam.
"I'm not seeing the downside here" said Baird.
"I needed more time. Just like E-Day" said Adam.
"Yeah we'll talk about it. Hold on." said Marcus.
"E-Day? What the hell's he talkin' about?" asked Baird.
"I'm not sure we wanna know" said Cole.
"Beware what you wish for Baird. Questions like that, will give you answers you didn't probably need to know. Speaking from experience." Said Locke.
"Quiet people. Grubs up ahead!" said Marcus.
"Marcus we ain't sneakin' past 'em are we? We got a score to settle!" said Cole.
"Yeah, we have." said Marcus.
"Suprise bitches! We back!" shouts Cole kicking off another round of a firefight.
"Weapons hot Spartans!" said Locke.
"The Lambent and Prometheans are gonna breach the door soon Marcus.
"Let's worry about the grubs first." said Marcus.
"Elevators up ahead. Let's clear 'em quick so we can head up before the Lambent and Prometheans arrive."
"Good call Fred." said Master Chief.
"Up there! Reavers!" shouts Marcus as everyone focused fire.
"Looks like the only way up" said Cole.
"I don't see any elevator cars. Must be at the top." said Marcus.\
"Shit...who'd they build this for anyway?" asked Cole.
"It's a frickin' palace! Thanks, Prescott. Good use of my taxes!" said Baird.
Marcus calls the elevator down but it short circuts quick.
"Ah shit. Baird, fix this!" said Marcus.
"Marcus...I'm responsible for so many deaths. This is where I can put some things right." said Adam.
"You didn't start this war. You're ending it!" said Marcus.
"There was a time where I thought I could talk our way out of it." said Adam.
"Uh, what happens when you set off your glowie killer, Professor. Are we gonna..feel anything?" asked Baird.
"That depends on how far the imulsion has colonized your cells, Damon. Do you have a fever? Intense muscle pain?" asked Adam.
"No" said Baird.
"Then you'll be fine" assured Adam.
The Lambent and Prometheans have arrived.
"Or not so fine maybe..." adds Anya.
"Goddamn it Jack! Where are those elevators?" asked Marcus.
"Takin' their sweet ass time" said Cole.
"It'll be slow goin' up too. Just sayin' " adds Baird
"We'll make it work" adds Master Chief.
The team held them off as long as they could as waves of Lambent and Prometheans kept coming. Althought the waves didn't stop, the elevator fianlly arrived.
"Hey, the lifts are here. Let's go!" shouts Anya.
"Come on, into the elevator! Move it!" ordered Marcus.
The teams reached the elevators and spit up, just in case.
"Split up! Just in case!" shouts Marcus.
"Hey, you realize where all that sculpture and arty shit came from?" asked Baird.
"You're gonna tell me" said Marcus.
"The National Museum of Ephyra. Prescott saved friggin' statues instead of us! Asshole!" said Baird.
"Nice to feel valued. Come on, brass 'em up. Keep 'em off the lifts" said Marcus as Locust used grapple hooks on the elevator cars.
The teams shot the hooks off, keeping the Locust away from them as the ascended up the elevators.
Reavers then flew in.
"Nowhere to run now." said Anya.
"Too late to take the stairs" Marcus adds.
The Reavers managed to damage Marcus and Anya's lift as they were forced to jump to the other.
"Jump! Get to the other lift!" said Marcus.
"Ah, God. Nearly missed it!" said Anya with a sigh of relief.
"You two okay up there?" asked Cole.
"Yeah we're fine" assured Marcus.
"Anya you okay?" asked Marcus.
"I'm fine, don't worry" Anya assured.
The lift doors opened to another firefight ahead.
"Cole, we're on the floor above you." said Marcus.
"On our way up Marcus." said Cole.
"En route to your position" said Master Chief.
"Dad, we're still a couple of floors below you" said Marcus.
"I can hear the Locust right outside my door. They're waiting for you.
"I wont dissapoint them, then!" said Marcus.
"This is Commander Palmer to Fenix, I'm en route to your postion in. a Pelican. Be advised you have multiple enemy hostiles coming your way. Including Myrrah."
"Copy that Palmer. Stand by!"
"Chief! We got Commander Palmer on her way." said Marcus.
"UNSC forces are probably closing in for reinforcements. We need to reach your Dad so she can provide air support." said Master Chief.
"Marcus, what's that noise?" asked Anya.
"Queen Myrrah flies in on her War Beetle.
"Marcus Fenix! What a loyal son you are. But I can't let you release your father!" said Queen Myrrah.
"Spartans open fire!" said Master Chief.
"THIS IS FOR DOM YOU GRUB BITCH!" Shouts Buck.
"Come on, keep headin' upstairs." said Marcus.
Queen Myrrah's War Beetle fired a solar blast from its mouth burning everything it touched as the team narrowly avoid it while heading to higher ground.
"Cole, you that "my enemy's enemy is my friend" shit? Well we can forget that" said Baird.
"Marcus, I gave your father nearly twenty years to deal with the Lambent. He will deal with it, but not at my people's expense!" said Queen Myrrah.
"Uh...Myrrah said twenty years. Anyone else hear twenty years? Becuase that was before E-Day! right?" asked Baird.
"Don't listen to that bitch! Get upstairs!" said Marcus.
"Split up! We need covering fire!" ordered Marcus.
"Listen to me Marcus Fenix! I will not let my people die! We have a right to live, a right to this world. Your father must complete his task!" said Queen Myrrah.
"Well that's one thing we agree on!" said Marcus.
"Hey look up there! Splat!" said Baird.
"You wanna bring down the roof?" asked Cole.
"No, just the counterweights. See the cables?" asked Baird.
"Good call. Come on, they've gotta be anchored nearby." said Marcus.
"It'll make the building unstable..." cautioned Baird.
"Beats bein' roasted" said Marcus.
"Marcus takes the first cable, Locke and I will cut the last two." said Master Chief.
As the Queen was on the attack, Marcus uses his Lancer to saw the first counterweight cable in two. As the Queen's tempest went after him, Locke and Chief used the distraction as an opportunity to get the last two as they used their combat knives to cut them, setting the counterweight right on top of the Queen, sending her down below.
"Did we finish her off? Where's the Queen?" askede Marcus.
"I can't see!" adds Anya.
A Lambent stalk comes bursting through the window.
"Palmer to Fenix, I got a visual on the tower. Get the hell out of there and find your dad! Hurry!" said Palmer using the Pelican's chaingun on the stalk and its pods.
"Ah, shit! Get to the lift now!" shouts Marcus.
