Author's Note: Please enjoy my latest story. This will be a longer story with several chapters. The next update will be October 13th. Thanks!
Two hands came down onto the table where numerous samples of fabric, color, and client profiles were spread about. It was also where Sarah was perusing shoe catalogues. Several of which fell to the floor, to her annoyance. She barely glanced up at her assistant.
"What's got you so excited?"
"Goblin is going on tour! Can you believe it?" Mina squealed, holding up her phone so her boss could see.
"I thought you were looking at color swatches for Andrea's gala outfit?" Sarah quipped, looking up at the phone. The article had a photo of the band mid performance at the very top. She turned back to the catalog. Andrea wanted something enchanting, and none of these shoes were singing to Sarah. The scream queen had requested Elvira meets Arwen, and Sarah was delighted by the unique challenge. It was fuel for her creativity.
"One can only look at the color periwinkle so many times before needing to throw up."
"It could be shades of pink."
"Don't put that curse on me! It was bad enough during Valentine's Day. If I see another shade of pink, I might just die."
"The faster we pick the right shade, the faster you don't have to look at them."
"I will, I will. Right now I'm trying to see who's all going on the tour."
Sarah hid her smile, taking a marker to Item #5938. If they made it patent leather, it could work...
"No. Freaking. Way. Oh my god, Sarah, why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you what?" Sarah asked absentmindedly, dog earing a page before moving on to the platform shoes section. She would need to email the designer, but she had worked with Vivian before and surely she would see the vision. But there may be something better...
"'Designer to the stars and award winning costumer Sarah Williams to design Goblin's outfits for their tour, joining them in Atlanta for the debut show.' You're going on tour with freaking Goblin! When were you going to let me know?!"
"Well, if you'd check your email, you would have already known this," Sarah quipped, circling Item #6253. "Now, I need you go call their manager to schedule the dates for the one on ones. I'm too busy this week, but see if you can set them up for next Friday. Yes, Friday will work as long as you pick the right periwinkle shade."
"But it's Goblin. You're still doing a one on one with them?" Mina sputtered out. Her bubblegum pink hair in pigtails today, the short curls coming down to right below her ear.
She had been Sarah's assistant for three years and she was now her right hand in almost every aspect of the business. Mina had been a life saver when Sarah was granted custody of her brother Toby and the struggles she had faced raising the infant. She had been there through the sleepless nights, fashion show prep, designs in the wrong sizes, and famous people's crazy requests. It was thanks to her that Sarah had been able to leave her previous toxic employer and open up her own design shop.
Through all of it, Sarah Williams had emerged as the designer to have. She was well known for her ethereal designs that held up well for performances and stunt work. Her latest work on a fantasy action move had won her several awards. But it still surprised her to have gotten a call from Goblin's manager, Ludo, asking for her to come on tour with them. He had been asked by the band to give her a call after they had attended the premiere of the movie she'd worked on, he'd said. They'd apparently been raving about her costumes ever since and he'd never hear the end of it if he didn't beg her to come along.
She'd never heard of a designer going on tour before, but she had worked as a production manager on tours while finishing fashion school. It had taken her twice as long, but she was determined. She had raised every single penny herself to avoid student loans or begging her parents for the money. They would never be a part of her life again, not after what they did to Toby.
"Everyone gets treated equally. Call Ludo please."
"Okay, okay. But I'm going to play their album on repeat the entire time we're doing their costumes."
Sarah laughed. "I can live with that."
