Marionette
Tokyo Revengers fanfic
Description:
He remembers the way Chisato's green eyes stared at him before she blinked. Once, twice, and thrice. Then, she burst out laughing. It sounded melodic, her voice that is.
"Of course, I've had my first love, dumbass," she leaned to rest on her knees.
Her eyes sparkled with the memory, lips were pulled into a frown.
"Who was it?" He wanted to know, felt like he had to know.
AN:
Leave a comment if you've figured out who her crush was. And who it might be now. I didn't put the last character on purpose. Not sure if this will be continued or not but for now - it stands as a ONE SHOT.
Chapter 1:
If there was a word to describe Chisato then it was trouble.
Whenever something happened, there was a high chance that Chisato was involved. Usually, sometimes, most of the time. She had been like that since the day they met her, hiding from a pissed-off gang after she accidentally dropped a bucket of bright pink paint on the leader and put a fire on his bike. He never did find out the reason why she'd done that, just knew that it wasn't out of boredom as she'd claimed with a nonchalant shrug.
Chisato always had a reason behind the things she did.
Whether she'd tell you or not, was another thing.
He remembered when Chisato had stood before them, announcing that she was leaving the Tokyo Manji Gang causing a wave of shock in the founding members, those who were still present. It was right after Mikey's brother was killed and Kazutora ended up in juvie. Mikey had refused her resignation, Baji went off on her, Draken had to keep them both in check, and Pah was watching it all on the ground, snacking away. Mitsuya joined Draken in trying to keep Mikey and Baji from accidentally hurting Chisato for her sudden, unexpected, shocking decision.
Since then, they watched Mikey chasing after Chisato, making sure she'd be dragged to the meetings and that she wouldn't take off to God-knows-where. He wasn't happy that someone he considered his would try to leave him, especially Chisato. The relationship between Mikey and Chisato was a strange one.
There were moments when it seemed to go deeper than a mere friendship between two childhood friends until the very notion was ruined by Chisato claiming she'd only love her younger brother, Chifuyu, and shoo any potential suitor away. It was almost as though she was allergic to the very idea of being with someone, he thought with a frown.
He'd asked her, once, whether she's been in love or not. Curiosity won him over, sue him.
They barely knew anything about Matsuno Chisato that she didn't willingly share. Her favourite colour, ocean blue. Her favourite food, ramen. Her favourite drink, coca-cola. Her favourite animal, Chifuyu's cat. They knew small things about her like that, including what might tick her off and calm her down (the best bet would be to call Chifuyu), but nothing deeper. Sure, he knew her but it wasn't enough.
"A sad boy, who's currently stuck on his first love," was her response, it sounded harsh and cold.
He blinked, "Eh?"
"It was an unrequited first love," he didn't expect that. There's someone, who turned her down? Damn. "Maybe still is as I've never even told him that I liked him, a lot. Don't even know how or when, but before I knew it - I was in way too deep, that's probably why I hung out with people who didn't know him. As a way to get over him, proclaimed to like my brother instead."
"...Did it work?" He tentatively asked.
She shrugged, leaning back and stretching her hands behind her head. "I suppose it did, in a way. He'll always be in my heart, however, I no longer desire anything from him. Not even a friendship. Isn't that a progress?"
"Sounds like it." It was a surprise, to hear that someone had hurt Chisato like that. "And now? Is there someone you like now?"
She jumped to stand, using her hands to balance herself. He couldn't see her expression. He wanted though, it was a legitimate question. He wasn't the only one who wanted to know more about Chisato. Not the only one who was intrigued by her mysteries and how she, sometimes, acted as though she knew more than she let on.
"Chisato?"
She skipped over to a stone-made lamp in the Musashi Shrine and spun around it, like a child. When she was a few years older than he was.
"Maybe, who knows~," she responded, almost singing it. "I ain't telling."
He slumped, he should've known. "There goes my expectations of knowing something others don't."
"You already do," she said, pressing her index finger on her pinkish lips. Her green eyes sparkled, and the moonlight shone on her shoulder-length blonde hair. The Matsuno siblings really did look similar, one could almost mistake them for twins. But she wasn't Chifuyu.
Her loyalty to Toman wasn't as strong as her brother's was. Even if he mostly joined to stay near Baji, he thought. Point case, she wasn't officially part of Toman even if Mikey refused to accept her continued resignation. It was like a game of a cat and a mouse, seeing which one would give up first. Mikey or Chisato?
"No one knows about my first love," she added, looking at him with a sparkle in her eyes. "You're the only one to know, Taka-chan."
When it came to dealing with Chisato, something was always missing. It's like she could never be truly honest with them, always hiding something. As if she was scared.
He looked up at the nickname that had slipped from her lips, finding her smiling at him in a way that nearly took away his breath. She was beautiful. Utterly so, painstakingly beautiful. No wonder that Mikey pouted whenever a guy approached her, to talk or to confess or to try and gain her attention.
Whatever the reason was, he wouldn't know.
He was just lucky to have her as a friend, a loyal one. She'd expressed several times how she would always stand by him, even if they weren't in the same gang. Then again, he'd accidentally witnessed a private moment between her and Mikey. Mikey's arms had pulled her into a hug, which she gladly returned.
But that wasn't what was private.
It was the way he'd seen Mikey's lips left a trail of kisses on her neck, mumbling something to her that he couldn't hear. Her eyes had been closed, but she was smiling. He felt his heart beat loudly and instantly turned away. His face had been brighter than a tomato.
"What about Mikey?" He suddenly asked, crossing his long fingers, nervously.
"What about Mikey?" She parroted back, blinking at him.
There was something in her tone that sounded a lot like a warning. He didn't heed it.
"How do you feel about him?"
"...He's a friend, who's a dumbass. A bigger dumbass than you, Taka-chan," she sighed, looking somewhat disappointed. "Mikey's…he likes to chase after what he wants without knowing how he feels about them. It's not like he's in love with me or anything, just a childish possessiveness that was born due to his fear of losing everyone precious to him. It's why I've allowed him to act this way, he knows it too."
The air felt cold, it was past midnight. However, neither made a move to go home. She did another spin around the stone-made lamp. It looked like a demon could possess it anytime, light a fire within its lantern head and start chasing after females. As the story went.
"Does he though?" He doubted it.
"You're underestimating him, Taka-chan," there it was - that secretive smile.
Her hands brushed against the fabric of her dress-like clothing. It was a pant dress that allowed her to move comfortably, and fight if the reason arose. Someone had designed it in a way that fit the girl almost as though it was specially made for her, he found himself thinking. The colours and appearance suit her brilliantly. It was her favourite outfit.
The skirt's fabric could be tied into a belt, and its long sleeves offered warmth and protection from the cold weather. Her singular silver earring shone under the moonlight, showing off the long ribbon-like chains that combined into one accessory.
"He's never acted this way," he justified his doubts.
She shrugged, "Mikey's not in love with me. Maybe a small crush, but he's not going to act on it."
"And why are you so hell-bent on that?"
"Because, you noisy dumbass, we've already talked about it. Mikey and I, we've had a long chat about it, while gazing at the stars. It was a surprise but I'd figured it out before he did. He's not the type to let someone too close to him - if I have to say, then, Emma and Draken are probably as close to him as one can get to him." He watched as she held out her hands, gesturing the various distances as she spoke. "You and I fall into the category that is Mikey's close enough limit."
"That could just be the way how you see things, Chisato." It made sense, but he wouldn't admit it.
"Now, now, Taka-chan," she waved her hand, pretending to be embarrassed and shy. Her hands went to her cheeks and he watched as she pulled out her fake-shy persona. "Don't tell me you haven't figured Mikey out?"
He snorted, "Drop that disgusting act, Chisato."
"Boo!" She held her thumbs down, pouting at him. "Stop being a spoil-sport!"
"You're being weird."
"You're the one, who asked me what I thought about Mikey!"
He shook his head, rubbing the bridge between his nose and eyes, "Yeah, yeah, my bad. Didn't think you'd take it like that."
She gasped, "It's as if you don't know me at all, Taka-chan! I'm hurt!"
He sighed, and stood up, shaking his head. "It's late, I'm taking you home before your brother comes looking for you."
She gave him a conspiratory-like look, "Now that would be hilarious to see. Fuyu attempting to drag me home, when I'm having fun. Or seeing Fuyu in a panic…"
He had gotten close enough to her to be able to smack her head, gaining a yelp and ow from the older girl. "That's why people call you a bro-complex idiot."
"That's mostly just you, Draken, and Baji!"
"...Not even denying it?"
Suddenly, she jumped on his back causing him to almost lose his balance. Her laughter rang in his ears as he tried not to let them fall on the stony path in Musashi Shrine's parking lot. He let out a series of curses.
"Seriously?!"
"Sorry, but not sorry," her legs had hooked themselves around his waist. Her hands rested, lazily, over his shoulders. He could see her fingers, watching them as if she didn't know how to hold them. There was a familiar silver ring with a small line of diamonds in the middle of it on her index finger, Mitsuya blinked at it.
Huh?
Her one hand disappeared from his view and when he turned around to look for it, he found a finger pressing on his cheek. He blinked.
"Taka-chan's such a dumbass," she sighed, giving him a long look and he had to push her up to prevent the girl from slipping.
"Look who's talking," he retorted, pretending to bite her finger. Her eyes widened as she quickly removed her finger and Mitsuya smirked. "Keep poking and I might just bite you."
Something flashed in her green eyes, almost like a challenge.
Then, she pushed herself off of his back. She was humming something as he brushed off the dust from her shoes on his person. The sky was bright, full of bright, bright stars staring down at them.
She loves the stars, he knows.
They could always catch her staring at them, whenever there was a chance for it. And sometimes fall asleep while doing so.
Yeah, he thought, watching her admiring his bike. Matsuno Chisato was an enigma and a trouble in every way and manner. But he was lucky enough that he wasn't on her shit list cause he'd seen what happens to those on it.
There was a reason why she, Baji, and Kazutora got along so beautifully well that they were, at some point, called the Devil's Trio.
"Come on, Taka-chan, you slow poke!"
