Hyzenthlay ran as fast as she could. She ran past the unconscious bodies of Strawberry, Bluebell, and Blackavar who seemed to be guarding the burrow Orchis came through. Luckily they were still alive, but they needed medical attention.
Blackberry and Clover were trying to catch up with Hyzenthlay.
"Hyzenthlay stop! The fighting isn't over yet, we need to get back to the burrow!"
Then they heard a distant cry
"THE GENERAL IS DEAD! WE MUST RETREAT"
They both stopped dead in their tracks and looked at each other. Was it true? Was Woundwort dead? had they finally won?
Then Blackberry realized Hyzenthlay was long gone. They definitely wouldn't be catching her now They couldn't focus on that now. They just had to hope nothing dreadful await Hyzenthlay. For now they needed to get the three unconscious bucks to the medical burrow.
"We should get them to the medical burrow." Blackberry said.
Clover agreed but she still wanted to make sure Hyzenthlay was alright.
"Go get Primrose to help get them in, I'm going to check on Hyzenthlay."
Hyzenthlay didn't stop running despite the call of victory. She kept running towards the entrance Holly and Campion were supposed to be guarding. Then she saw him, laying dead at the entrance. She didn't want to believe it, she couldn't.
She ran to his body with tears in her eyes.
"HOLLY! NO PLEASE NO!" she cried.
Holly was all she had left. Now she had no one. Those damned Efrafens or Darkhavener's or whatever they were now had taken all her life away yet again.
She continued to mourn alone. But then Clover came up behind her. Clover immediately knew what had happened when she saw Holly's body. She sighed in sadness. Holly was a good rabbit, losing him was a hard blow. But to Hyzenthlay it was much more than that.
Clover Stood beside her as she continued to weep.
"I'm really sorry Hyzenthlay, he was good rabbit." she said trying her best to comfort her friend.
Hyzenthlay didn't say anything at first. She had stopped crying now, just sitting there staring at him.
"He was my last chance at happiness"
Clover sighed. She hated seeing a friend down, but seeing a friend seemingly broken was ten times worse.
"Listen, I don't know how your feeling right now. I pray I never do. But I know Holly wouldn't want you to live in misery for the rest of your life. He would want you to live on, and to be as happy as you can be until you are finally reunited.
Hyzenthlay finally looked at Clover. Hyzenthlay hadn't thought much of Clover when they first met, mostly because Clover was a former hutch rabbit and had been in a lot of contact with man. But now, Clover was the only rabbit who she could talk to right now.
"Thanks Clover, I'll try"
The two does smiled at each other. But then they looked down at his body again. Clover knew they couldn't leave him here.
"C'mon let's get him safely inside, he will get a proper celebration and service."
Authors note
This is part 1 of this section where the tragedy is revealed to the rest of the warren. This chapter focused on Holly, now part 2 will focus on Hazel and Bigwig. I'll probably have part 2 published by the end of the weekend but no promises.
Also no, Hyzenthlay and Clover are not a thing here. They are just friends.
