Saphira had not expected to be suddenly awakened by the Transit incident, but she was. She found herself having nightmares of Transit kidnapping her and holding her hostage, and in some of her nightmares, she was forced to watch Transit kill the autobots. Though more specifically, Optimus Prime. All this happened over the week since the incident. She has been struggling to sleep very well due to it. It has made Saphira paranoid, flinching whenever she would see a bus, even if she is with an autobot. She knew not every bus was the decepticon, but she had to keep reminding herself of that fact to try and stay relaxed. Especially as the autobots have had to reassure her that the buses they pass was not Transit.
At the very least, now that they know that Transit will actively target Saphira, the autobots were glad that Saphira was sticking close to them. More like glue than anything else at the moment, as she was terrified of being kidnapped by Transit. He was certainly also a lot smarter than Saphira first thought, which was her mistake. She would never underestimate Transit again.
Saphira had also begun to spend a lot of time with Bumblebee. The autobot had indeed been okay despite the fight he had with Transit. He did need some repair, but not a great lot. It still made her feel guilty to know she might have been the reason for him to be attacked. Bumblebee might have brought her to that mansion, but she still felt guilty that he had to protect her, and it caused him to get injured.
Saphira was staring out the window currently of the camaro. It was the evening, and Saphira had suggested to Bumblebee to drive around to see the Christmas lights that have already been put up. And right now, there was a light fall of snow happening, and she was smiling a little as she watched the snowflakes fall from the sky. It might not fully cover the ground tonight, but it was beautiful.
"I'll never get over seeing the first snowfall," Saphira said as she stared out the window. "It is beautiful. Especially with the moon shining down on us. It is making the snow glitter like crystals as they fall to the ground." She looked at the houses as Bumblebee drove down the street. There were houses already lit with Christmas lights, and it was beautiful. "It makes me wish that I could celebrate Christmas with someone. I've never celebrated it."
"You could celebrate with us," Bumblebee suggested quickly as he rolled slowly down the street. "We could try and find a tree to decorate."
Saphira smiled and shook her head. "There's no need. There are plenty of large Christmas trees adorned with decorations around the city. We don't need to have one in order to admire. But I would definitely like celebrating Christmas with you guys. I think it would be very magical."
Saphira did not know what a Christmas day with the autobots would look like, but she at least would not be alone on Christmas. Even Arthur didn't do anything with her around Christmas, but she was glad that he did not. She didn't need that extra pain. Regardless, Saphira was actually looking forward to Christmas this year for a change. She didn't need presents to be happy, she was happy that they were here.
"I guess I should really be happy that you guys showed up in my life," Saphira said dreamily as she stared out the window. "I know that we got off to a rocky start, but I think now things are much better. You are my friends, and I hope to believe we will always be friends, even if you were to return to Cybertron. I know I will never forget you if that was to happen."
"I feel the same about you," Bumblebee responded, finding gentle words to form the sentence, which made Saphira's smile widen. "You are special to us. Even the boss. He might hide that fact, but he cares about you. Make a Christmas wish this year."
"A Christmas wish? I haven't done that in a long time." It also sounded like a really good idea. She did try to picture what Christmas would look like, but she honestly just saw herself sitting inside Optimus's cab for the whole day. After all, it will still be cold and snowing. "As far as I am concerned, I don't really need to make one." She chuckled a little and winds the window down to stick her arm out and cup her hand to catch the snowflakes. "I am glad you agreed to come with me, Bumblebee. The lights are beautiful, even if we aren't quite in December just yet."
"I have enjoyed the drive as well. This suburb is very quiet." Bumblebee was fascinated that Saphira was catching snowflakes with her hand. He did not quite understand it, but she was smiling and enjoying it, so he figured that it was not something to worry about. But he was curious. "Why are you catching the snowflakes?"
"Just something I've always done." She shrugged as she really did not think much of it. "It's kind of nice. Feeling the chills of the ice landing on my hand has always been pleasant. I guess it always reminded me of the beauty that is still left in this world. And snow is just one of the many layers of beauty on this world."
"I see." Bumblebee still did not understand, but as she was not hurting anyone and was very happy, he let that slide. Saphira was having a good time, and he did not want that to get interrupted. "Did you ever try to celebrate Christmas?"
Saphira looked at the dash in surprise and she shrugged. "I suppose I did. Only after I escaped my family. In my first year away, I tried to make myself happy by putting up a single stocking and a small tree. I made some gingerbread cookies, and bought a couple presents. But when Christmas morning came, I didn't feel that excitement for it like I had hoped. So I just didn't do it anymore."
That was rather sad, and Bumblebee felt for her. "I am so sorry."
"Don't apologize for something that is not your fault." Saphira placed her hand on top of the glove box with a smile. "I guess I realized that I had been traumatized too much to really enjoy it. The only thing I still celebrate is my birthday with a single cupcake every year. And every birthday I wish for a better year." She felt tears well in her eyes. "I wished for that last time. I guess I could say it has been good, because I learned the truth about my job…and I met you all, but still…"
Bumblebee fully understood what she was saying. "The pain you've felt from it all hasn't been good." She shook her head with a sniffle. "I dare hope that we have made the year a little better." She nodded as she believed that they did. "Good."
Saphira wiped the tears from her eyes with a sniffle and sighed deeply. "And would it be funny that I like Optimus the most? Even though he was the hardest on me."
"Not really. Our leader has been through a lot. And to be fair, he has given you the most wisdom and guidance out of all of us." That was true. When she stood on the edge of the river, contemplating whether she wanted to jump or not, Optimus's voice seemed to speak to her deeper than Mirage's words. While all of them helped her, Optimus seemed to resonate with her a lot moree. "He has seen your pain, and understands that you are going through just as much as we are. It is good. The two of you a closer due to the experiences you have had. It is that reason why you both have gotten closer, and why you relate better with him."
That made sense. Saphira did not think that would be completely the case, but it did make sense. Saphira smiled a little as she was happy that they seem to be okay with that. "I hope Optimus is okay with that too. I have even been making something for him and you autobots." That peaked Bee's curiosity, but he did not inquire. "I am not going to tell you the full details of it, because they aren't finished yet. But I hope he likes them."
"I have no doubt he will. And so will we."
Saphira had been working on the painting when she was at the wharf, but given she was sticking to the autobots like glue, the progress has slowed down quite a bit. But she was very happy with the progress she has made so far. And she couldn't wait to finish them and show the autobots. She pulled her arm back inside and winds up the window as she was starting to feel a little too cold. But as she did so, she jumped as she saw the headlights of a bus behind them in the side view mirror. The bus was not right behind them, but it startled her.
"Uh…this had better not be a repeat." Saphira trembled a little as she stared at the mirror. "But I don't know if that is Transit behind us right now, but I really don't want to take any chances. Especially since I know for a fact the bus route does not come through here. So that is a red flag for me."
Bumblebee did not say anything, but he did take notice. Saphira was right about the bus routes. They don't come down the street they were on. Bumblebee sped up now that he realized they were being followed, and the pattern of Transit seemingly targeting the weakest to get to Saphira was already getting on his nerves. Bee knew that he could take on Transit, but it would be in a different situation to what it was before.
"If you can avoid confronting Transit at this time, Bumblebee, ensure you take that chance," Optimus spoke through the com link, making Saphira flinch. She knew he had been listening to the conversation through the communication device, so she knew he heard what had been said. "Transit appears to be attempting to target Saphira while one of us is alone with her, aside from myself. Do not engage unless absolutely necessary. Try to lose him, and get Saphira away from him."
Saphira grabbed the key from her jacket pocket nervously. "You are coming to our location, right?"
"Yes, but I am some way from you. So is Mirage and Arcee, which is why it is absolutely important for Bumblebee to not engage Transit on his own unless necessary." Saphira looked at the side view mirror and shifted to sit lower in the seat, even if it did not do much. "Transit is most definitely a coward by going after Bumblebee while on his own."
"I guess that means we are going to have to change things," Saphira said nervously as she took deep breaths. "I-I know that might be silly…"
"No, it is not," Optimus interrupts the girl in a gentle tone. She felt a sense of reassurance from his tone, but she did not feel herself relaxing at all. She was still terrified. "If Transit is believing we are weak on our own, especially Arcee, Bumblebee and Mirage, then he is going to be bold and actively go after them while you are with them. He may not go after Arcee, due to the fact she is faster than the rest of us, but I can definitely assume he will try. This means when you are with one of them, either myself or one of the others will also accompany you."
Saphira listened to him and she let out a light scoff. "I guess this is what it means to be a liability, right?"
"Oh, please…don't start with that again," Mirage groaned immediately. "You aren't a liability. Because you are human though, you are the weakest and it makes you an easy target. Transit is being a coward going after you for that reason. I'm on my way, I should meet up with you and Bumblebee very soon."
"Mirage is correct," Optimus confirmed affirmatively. "That is the only reason why Transit is going after you, Saphira. You're human, and he knows you are extremely vulnerable to us. Targeting you is a cowardly move."
"And this probably feels worse because you have been having nightmares about this very thing happening," Arcee said gently as they were all aware of the nightmares. "This isn't exactly what we hoped to happen when you went looking at the Christmas lights. Transit just does not seen like he is going to stay away, which will eventually lead us to wherever he is hiding."
Saphira did not like the implication that the autobots were using these moments to try and track Transit's movements, as it implied they were using her. She knew it wasn't necessarily the case. She glanced at the mirror and she noticed that the bus was getting closer, making her shudder fearfully as she was very frightened. She did not want her nightmare to happen. It would be very horrible if it did happen.
"I hate that nightmares can come true sometimes," Saphira commented nervously. "I don't want to be used as a tool for Transit to blackmail you guys with. I would hate that." She let tears fall from her eyes and she jumped as Bumblebee turned left sharply. "Bee! A little warning would be nice."
"Sorry, but I have to make last minute decisions right now," Bee responded quickly before turning another sharp right quickly. Saphira realized he was trying to go through the streets to lose Transit, and she hoped that it was working. "Hold on to your socks."
She frowned a little as she hoped that Bee would lose him. The last thing she wanted was for Bee to be knocked out again. She could see that happening, but that would remain to be seen as Bumblebee continued to speed into different streets. She could not see the bus behind them right now, but that didn't mean that Transit was not following them. He could easily be making his way to cut them off.
Saphira shifted to get comfortable properly on the chair as slouching low in the chair was getting uncomfortable for her, even if she was doing that as a means to try and hide from Transit. But she knew hiding wouldn't do any good if Transit already knew that she was there. It was just a peace of mind thing that she had decided to do. She looked around as she glanced at each window in the hope Bumblebee could get away.
He drove out of the quiet suburb and drove towards the city center. Saphira was able to relax some more as she still could not see Transit. Saphira placed her hand on her chest as she could feel how fast her heart was beating. She was glad that they were now near the middle of the city, which will make things easier, and she knew that the other autobots were far now. At least she hoped they would not be far.
Bumblebee turned into an alleyway suddenly, making Saphira gasp in surprise as she had not expected that. "Why are we going down an alley?" Saphira glanced around as she noticed evidence of people being here, which made her even more nervous. "I am not sure if we should be down here, Bee."
"We need to be off the streets to hide and wait for reinforcements," Bumblebee responded, even though that made no reassurance to Saphira. "And do not fear, no one is going to get inside. You are safe." Saphira groaned a little as she glanced around nervously as Bee continued driving through the alley slowly. She jumped as she thought she saw someone, but it turned out to be some stray dogs running away. "I am with you, Saphira."
Saphira at least knew that Bumblebee could deal with humans, but he also could not reveal his existence either. Because of that rule, she did not know what exactly Bumblebee could did in a situation where she would need help. She didn't know what any of them would do. She doubted they would let her be harmed, so there was that. But she still did not know what exactly they would do. She knew that most people wouldn't believe another if someone started spouting that they have seen giant robots.
Saphira widened her eyes when Bee rolled into a dark alley and turn off his headlights and shut off the engine. She was trembling as she did not know if any of the others would be close. Bumblebee has not told her how far the others were, but she would like to assume that they were close. But since Bumblebee was hiding in alley, she worried that Bee seemed to know something she did not, and that was worrying her even more because of it.
"Okay, Saphira, I am a block away from you," Mirage spoke through the communication device, making Saphira jumped in surprise. "I would be there in a few minutes, but I have eyes on our elusive decepticon. I am not sure if he has seen me, but I am behind him. And he does seem to be heading in the same direction am needing to go."
"Do not engage Transit, Mirage," Optimus ordered the young autobot in an stern tone. "Keep an eye on him for the time being. If he seems to be travelling towards Bumblebee and Saphira, it could just be a coincidence." Saphira hoped that would not be the case, as that made her worry. "Unless…Bumblebee, did Transit do anything suspicious when he ambushed you a few days ago?"
Bumblebee was silent for a moment as he pondered on the incident. Saphira was staring at the dash as she waited for his response. And when he did respond, she did not like what she hears. "I am not sure." Saphira let out nervous gasps as she realized that Transit could be tracking him. "Give me a second…" Bumblebee opened the door suddenly and Saphira looked at the door briefly. "Get out for a moment. I need to check and make sure."
"Didn't anyone check you thoroughly when they fixed you?" Saphira asked with a frown, moving cautiously to the door and stepping out of the car. She shivered as the cold air around her quickly made her feel goose bumps over her body. She folded her arms and looked around, ignoring the mist her breath formed with each breath. "I would have thought it would be noticed."
"It can be easily missed," Mirage said in a gentle tone as Bumblebee transformed and began to check his body for any sign of tracker that might be on his body. "Sometimes decepticons put trackers on places that are extremely hard to notice anything, so we need to be absolutely sure. You are lucky, as the tracker probably would have fallen off you if he stuck something on you."
"He didn't have enough time to do that to her," Arcee commented bluntly. "I got there in time as he had grabbed Saphira, and he was about to kidnap her. He has definitely put something on Bee."
Saphira watched Bee as he checked over his body, and she stood close to him as she looked around with worry. So far, no human has seemed to have seen him, which seemed to be mostly luck based at the moment. She was nervous about potentially dangerous people in the alleyways too. She knew for a fact a lot of people hide between the high rises, and avoiding certain alleyways was a normal thing here in New York. She took a deep breath and waited while Bumblebee checked over his body.
She did watch him politely to see if she could spoke anything strange while he looked over himself. But it was not successful. She could not see anything strange, and she stood shivering while he looked and felt for any sign of a possible tracker. Saphira couldn't think if anything was strange on her, but she did look at the key Mirage had given her. As it was designed to track her, and as a communication device, Saphira could not help but worry that Transit might have picked up on the frequency.
Bumblebee let out a deep sigh of frustration when he could not find anything, slumping his shoulders and shaking his head. "Nope, there's nothing. There should be zero chance that Transit would have to find myself and the girl."
"Something is different. But Transit did just turn down a street heading a different direction from you guys, so I think it is fine," Mirage said in a gentle tone, making Saphira sigh in relief. "I guess the boss was right. It was just a coincidence."
Saphira smiled as she felt the nervousness fade away and she looked at Bumblebee with a smile. "I guess we were paranoid for nothing." She let out a light chuckle as Bumblebee nodded in agreement and transformed back into the camaro. "Oh, my heart felt like it was going to break out of my chest." She placed her hand on her chest and walked towards the car. "I guess…"
"You might want to check again." Saphira jumped back from Bee and looked up, widening her eyes as she saw Transit standing on a low roof, staring at them with a grin. "And you might want to stop being alone with Bumblebee, human. You are making this too easy for me." Bumblebee transformed as Transit jumped down into the alley with a grin. "Move aside, Bumblebee. I took you down and spared your life, that was your warning."
Bumblebee glared at Transit as the decepticon walked towards him slowly. "Being unprepared was my downfall. Not this time!" Bumblebee glanced at Saphira and gestured to her. "Hide!"
Transit scoffed and ran at Bumblebee, startling the autobot slightly at his charge. Saphira ducked out of the way and pressed herself against the wall of the building as Transit threw his fist at Bumblebee. Bumblebee successfully blocked Transit and Saphira watched fearfully as the two transformers began to throw heavy punches at each other. Bumblebee was standing up against Transit rather well, but she did know she was in an awkward spot. She couldn't run until she had some clear path to run.
Bee punched Transit in the right side of his face, causing the decepticon to grunt loudly and he grabbed Bumblebee by the shoulders suddenly, and threw him into the fence he had jumped over before, sending him through the fence as the hinges rip from the walls. Saphira stared in shock and looked up at Transit as he walked towards Bee for a moment, and she turned to run, only to trip over a pipe and causing her to fall onto the ground.
She gasped as the keys slipped from her hand and slid across the ground. She scrambled to grab it, only for Transit to suddenly step on it. She widened her eyes in shock and glanced up at him. "Oops." She stared at him before she began to run from the decepticon. "Run, run, run! I love watching your little feet scamper away!" Transit laughed as he glanced towards Bee as the scout ran towards him. "Let's see how long it takes for your friends to locate her without the tracking device."
Bumblebee ignored Transit as he threw his fist at him, and stumbled as Transit stepped back and kicked him in the chassis before punching him into the ground. Bumblebee grunts and swiped his legs, kicking Transit off his feet and the scout jumped to his feet, glancing in the direction Saphira was running, and he was glad she was putting some distance as he turned his attention back to Transit. He had to buy time, as that was the only way for Saphira to get away.
But as Saphira ran down the alley, she had no idea how the autobots were going to find her. She knew that they had not really planned for what would happen if the tracking device would be destroyed, but there was nothing that could be done until she got back to the autobots. She hoped Mirage really was not far away, as she could really use a friendly face right now. But she feared that the autobots will definitely be known. She could hear blaster fire behind her, and she ducked as a blast hit the wall of one of the buildings to her right.
She spotted a smaller alley to run into, and she ran towards it as she felt hands grabbing her by the arm. She screamed and glanced over her shoulder to see two men. "Where do you think you're going, huh?" One of them sneered with a grin. "A pretty, young, thing shouldn't be running away at this time of night. Could be dangerous."
Saphira glared and struggled to put from their arms. "Let me go!" She kicked back at one of the men's legs, making him cry out and let her right arm go. She could smell alcohol, and she knew not to ignore that. "Let me go!"
The man growled as she grabbed her right arm and forced her against the wall opposite him. "I don't think so! You hurt my friend. That's not allowed..."
"Hey! Asshole!" Saphira turned her head and smiled as she saw high beams of a Porsche shining as it speeds towards them. The man lets Saphira go as the Porsche sped towards him and his friend before skidding and turning as Mirage turns a complete one-eighty, almost hitting the men in the process. He opened the door for Saphira. "Come on, get in!"
Saphira reached for the door and screamed, pulling her arms back as a blast hits Mirage in the rear, sending him flying and transforming, before he stumbled into a group of large trash cans. The two men stare in shock and fear before they glance at who shot Mirage. Saphira stared as she saw Transit walking towards her briskly. She whimpered and he charged his canon again as he aimed it at her. She managed to run into the small alley before he shoots, and she heard the men cry out and their voices cut off suddenly as the blast hits them instead. She was somewhat grateful, but she now had to get out of there.
Transit peered into the small alley, watching Saphira run with a grin. "This city might be big, but it is not big enough for you to hide. Sooner or later, the cold will set in your bones. And I will find you. But let's see if the autobots truly care about your wellbeing, little human." Saphira shuddered as his chuckles echoed, and she did her best to try and ignore him. But now she had to think of what to do now. She heard Mirage and Bumblebee shouting something at Transit, and the sound of fighting, but she knew she could not go back. Not unless she wanted to be kidnapped or killed. She needed a new plan.
