Remus Lupin was going to Hogwarts. Him, a werewolf going to Hogwarts? Why was he going? He's a monster. They'll see him as a monster. He knows it. He held onto his wand as he fiddled with it while he and his father sat on the tube. His heart was pumping in his chest as he looked around him nervously. 'Can these people see it? Can they see that I'm a monster?' Remus thought as his mind raced.

"Remus?" his father asked, putting his hand on his shoulder. Remus jumped a little and looked up at his father.

"I'm…I'm okay," Remus lied but he knew that his father didn't buy it. He was a bad liar. Lyall Lupin shook his head.

"You're not okay. It's okay to be nervous but please don't worry too much! Everything will be just fine, son," Lyall said with a small smile on his face. Remus, however, didn't buy it. He's not going to be fine. They were going to hate him.

The tube pulled up to their stop making Remus's heartbeat faster. He thought it would burst out of his chest. Both he and his father got off of the tube with the rush of people. Remus dragged his Hogwarts trunk behind him as he picked at his new gloves with his free hand. "Don't pick at that," his father warned as they walked up to Red Cross station. Remus swallowed thickly but he nodded anyway. Lyall sighed. "Did you sleep on the tube? I saw you trying to," his father asked. Remus didn't answer. He was too nervous to say anything. He loved his father for trying to distract him, but it was not working. Remus looked up when his father took his gloved hand. "Listen, I know you are nervous, but everything will be just fine," his father said, but Remus just shook his head and still didn't answer. Instead, he looked around. Kings Cross was huge. Muggles buzzed past them as they tried to get to work or wherever they needed to go.

"Remus," his father said and tried to stop them for a moment, but Remus didn't let him, so his father just squeezed his hand instead. "You will be fine."

Remus picked at his gloves again as they walked up to platforms nine and ten. Remus closed his eyes as they both ran through the wall.

When they got on the platform, Remus could no longer think clearly as he nervously paced next to his father while they waited for the train to arrive. There were some people there as well and Remus wished he could say something about his fears to his father, but he was too nervous to speak. He could try though.

The wolf, although asleep, was winning in his head. "Dad, I…I…" Remus tried to say but he couldn't form the words. Remus bit his nails as he sank to the floor putting his hands over his ears. 'They're going to hate me. They're going to hate me,' this was the only thing going on in Remus's head as he kept his hands over his ears. Everything was so loud. Why was everything so loud? Remus closed his eyes and started to whine like a dog.

Lyell got down to his knees and looked at his son.

"Remus, take a deep breath okay," Remus nodded slowly. He did what he was told and took a deep breath, but his brain was still stuck on everyone hating him. He picked at his gloves again. The full moon had been last night, and the young werewolf had hurt his hands. His breaths became slow, but his heart was beating faster. "Remus, breathe, okay? I'm here," Lyall hugged his son tightly. "I'm here," he said again.

Remus calmed down a few minutes later. "Dad?" Remus asked when he saw more people arrive.

"Yes, Remus?" Lyall asked, pulling his son out of his arms.

"Will —will they see me as a monster?" the eleven-year-old asked, playing with the hem of his gloves. Lyall shook his head.

"Some will if they find out. They can't find out, Remus. We did go over this," Remus nodded as his heart started to beat fast again when he saw two kids running around him.

"I know! I can still make friends though. If others want to be," Remus said with a small smile, but his eyes dropped briefly before they snapped open. He didn't sleep well because of the full moon the night before. He hoped he could get some sleep on the train.

"Alright," Lyall said, ruffling his son's hair. Kids of different ages started to walk towards the train. They got there very early so no one would see them. However, there were more people there now than when they arrived. The increasing noise of all of the kids saying goodbye to their parents hurt Remus's ears.

"It looks like they're boarding. I love you and your mother loves you." Lyall pulled his son into his arms. Remus's heart started to beat fast, but he tried to ignore it.

"I…I love you too," Remus said walking to the train. His heart was still beating fast. He didn't know if this was a good idea, but what other werewolves get to join Hogwarts? 'Yeah. I can do this.' Remus thought as he smiled to himself about that. He will make real friends and not people who will feel sorry for him. People who see him for him and not some monster.
