Chapter 4: Punk Meets Jazz

"Erm you,,, wanna,,, be a hero?"

When Kyokas parents one day told her over the phone that there was going to be a new addition to the family she thought they had meant a dog, or a cat. Not a human. Much less a boy her age. Didn't he have a life already? Why bring him into theirs? She was confused as to why her mom, who was the primary decision maker in the family, was so keen on taking this boy, wherever he came from and just,,, have him. It felt wrong. She also felt betrayed. Why wasn't she part of this, and why was she first finding out the day he would come home. There was no time to prepare. When they all came home she was only half done putting on her makeup.

"Eh ehm. Uhhh. Yeah. Ever since I knew what they were."

They were sitting in the living room around their coffee table, a board game lay across the table, some strange version of monopoly.

It was too silent. It felt like it was only the two of them in the room, even though her parents were there right next to them. It also didn't help that the two of them were equally antisocial.

"H-How about you,,, kyoka?" The green haired boy with tentacles said, Izuku was his name.

"Me? Yeah,,, I wanna be a hero." Kyoka responded before looking back to the game.

"She wants to go to UA, I'm sure you've heard of it Izuku. Where do you wanna go?" Her mom spoke for the first time in what felt like forever. Kyoka took this time to roll her pair of dice. Seeing that she would land on one of Izuku's properties that just so happened to have a hotel. After quick consideration she decided that no one would notice if she moved one space further. Quick and easy, her piece was in place and the dice were passed to the next player.

"Uh I'd li-

*slide

Kyoka looked down to the board to see a tentacle pressing down on her game piece before sliding it firmly one space back.

"Cheater."

A deep and rough voice said after a few seconds of the most uncomfortable silence Kyoka had ever experienced.

She looked over to the tentacled boy to see that he looked absolutely mortified. She then looked to her parents on the other side of the table who were covering their mouths trying not to laugh.

"I'm so sorry,,, I didn't mean to do that I promise." The green haired boy said as he put up his hands. Their eyes met and they both stopped moving for a second to notice that both of them were the same shade of red.

Kyoka shook her head and hands at him.

"No no it's,,, you did the right thing. I shouldn't have done that, I'm sorry."

After this her parents couldn't hold themselves anymore, letting out tiny giggles that soon turned into full on laughter.

"No, no, she's right she shouldn't have done that." Kyotoku said in between his laughter.

"Lucky for us Izuku's quirk has a mind of its own." Mika said as she calmed herself down.

Suddenly it hit Kyoka, the seaweed haired boy next to her could not have produced that voice. In the very next second she turned to him with confusion blatant on her face.

"Wait, is your quirk alive?" She asked.

"Uhm y-"

"Yuuurrr! And I see everything so don't try being sneaky cause you ain't gonna make it."

The low voice said again whilst one of the boys' tentacles pointed at her face, to which he promptly tugged on some imaginary leach which pulled the thing away. He then looked down and held his fist up towards a wet spot on his shirt before speaking.

"Could you be any less annoying? I'm trying to bond here." He said in a commanding voice.

"And that's going sooooo well."

"Hey watch it, or else!"

"Or else what? You can't do anything to me!"

"Oh I'll find a way you little gremlin."

"What the fuck?" Kyoka said out of some wierd fucked up mix of amazement and confusion.

"Hey! Language!" Izuku then yelled while still looking at his stomach.

"Yeah you tell her Izuku." Kyotoku then said, grabbing the two teenagers' attention. A smile was beginning to form on Kyokas face as she looked at Izuku's clueless expression.

"What?"

"Yeah we've got a zero tolerance policy on swearing in this house. Good on you for telling her off." Kyotoku said with a slight smirk.

Izuku shook his head a bit at him, "her? You serious? This is some abomination of nat—"

"Oh shit." He said like he'd just been enlightened. Then reality hit him and he quickly turned to the punk next to him.

"Fuck I'm so sorry I didn't mean to tell you off I was just-"

"Hey language!" Kyoka said playfully, a grin smeared across her face.

"Okay but seriously, what the hell are you talking to?" She then asked. Izuku was wearing what looked like a woman's body suit that covered everything but his mid to upper back to let out his tentacles.

Izuku looked at her, an expression somewhere in between betrayal and hopelessness.

"Yeah, I've got an extra opinion on my stomach who has major attitude problems. He and I don't get along at all."

It was something about the way he said it, like he was complaining about a bully to her. Whatever tension that was still lingering just flew out the window.

Kyoka started giggling.

"Okay, hehe, so you take shit from what two eyes and a mouth on your stomach? Lemme see."

Izuku shook his head lightly before pulling his body suit out from the back, allowing Kyoka to get a peak at the maw that had caught her cheating.

"Awww dude that is gnarly!" She said, but came closer, making Izuku a bit uncomfortable.

"Don't touch, or I'll lick you when you sleep." Said the maw as Kyoka came closer.

"Alotta bark and no bite on this thing, does he have a name?" She asked, looking up to Izuku.

"Nope." He answered quickly.

"Can't he breathe under your clothes?"

"I fucking hope not."

As Kyoka came closer Izuku went into high alert. Partly because he had never been this close to a girl his age before, but also because he knew that the thing on his stomach wanted to do things he didn't. He sat, tense as ever while the punk girl next to him inspected further.

Suddenly a tentacle latched on to Kyoka's throat and pulled down. Izuku almost reflexively moved the tentacles he had control over to pull her away from where she was heading, his junk.

This resulted in two tentacles grabbing hold of her ankles and pulling up as hard as they could. This caused her speed to increase, but would make her miss the target location.

*swoosh

Her head narrowly missed Izuku's legs and even more narrowly missed the ground. Now she was in a spin, projected to slam into the coffee table they'd been playing on. Luckily, Izuku didn't only have tentacles, and like before reflexively reached out his arms to catch the falling girl. She landed neatly in his arms and just laid there for a sold 5 seconds before doing anything.

"Okay, first off, what the fuck?!"

She said, letting out a few shaky breaths.

"Secondly. You've been living with this thing since you were 4 and you still have no control over it!?"

Izuku now felt he had to defend himself.

"Oh no I just got him last week when I washed up on shore."

Kyoka gave him a confused look.

"Last week? Washed up on shore? You developed a mutation quirk at 15 that's gotta be a record, you gotta be lying."

"He's not." Mika said quickly.

Kyoka let out a defeated breath before speaking.

"Could you let me down now? I think I peed myself."

Izuku only now seemed to realise that he was holding a girl bridal style.

"Oh yeah right sorry." He said frantically, setting her down next to him again.

Kyoka went up and into the hallway before entering the restroom.

Izuku looked down at the half played game of monopoly before looking up at his new parents who bore somewhat shocked expressions.

"Nice save." Kyotoku said, breaking the silence.

"I know, it was sick." Izuku responded quickly but calmly. This got Kyotoku smiling.

"You can go up to your room and make your bed. It's getting late anyway. There should be extra sheets in the drawer. Don't worry about them getting wet, we'll have to get you a waterproof bed or something." Mika said, waving the greenette off with her hand.

Izuku stood up and walked out of the living room.

Mika and Kyotoku looked at each other.

"I think they're gonna get along great."
