Yes, I skipped the USJ attack. I couldn't think of any way to change it enough that I wouldn't just be rewriting exactly what had happened in the show. But the USJ did happen, just barely any differently then in the original.

The sports festival was both a dream and a nightmare for Izuku.

The sports festival was the biggest UA event of the year, broadcasted live on national television.

Everyone would be watching. Including his family.

Fuyumi, Natsuo, and probably mom.

And Endeavor was watching from where he stood in the audience. Izuku could feel his eyes glaring into both Izuku and Shoto's head all day.

But mainly Shoto. Because Izuku was still weak and useless to him, and not worth his attention.

But today that would change. Because today Endeavor would be forced to watch the scrawnier, smaller, weaker twin step up. He'd see what Izuku was really capable of.

But that's also what made his palms sweat and his mind spin before he'd even reached the stadium.

Because there was no doubt in his mind he'd have to use his quirk eventually today.

Which meant that today would be the day where his family, aside from Shoto, who knew he'd been quirkless his whole life, would see he had a quirk.

And they would not let that go unexplained, no matter what excuses he made.

He just barely worked it past Shoto, and even he still seemed suspicious. It worried him every time, because he knew how Shoto was with his theories. He wondered what Shoto would come up with this time.

But he knew his siblings, who spent much more time with him, would not let it go.

And then there was Endeavor.

Izuku really didn't know how Endeavor would react. He thought he'd probably he angry, but would he ask questions or ignore him like he always did?

And then there was competing against Shoto.

Boy, could this day get any more stressful?

"Izuku."

And he'd jinxed it.

Izuku turned from where he'd been talking to Uraraka in the back room, preparing for the first round, the obstacle race, when he'd heard the familiar, cold, blank voice. And he'd turned to see the just as familiar, cold, and blank face of his brother.

"Ah, Sh-Shoto!" He stuttered, with an awkward smile.

Him and Shoto had gotten a little bit closer over the first few weeks of school, being that there having to see each other far more often. They were even, at one point, to everyone's surprise, paired up for a project. The rest of the class thought it was unfair, since they lived together, but they actually both agreed it was kinda nice, since it gave them an excuse with Endeavor for why they had to actually spend some time together at home.

But they still didn't know much about each other and didn't talk often, except for an occasional wave or short conversations when they happened to be alone. But Izuku hasn't gone out of his way to talk to his brother yet, mainly because he still wasn't sure if Shoto even wanted to talk to him, being that he never tried very hard either.

So Izuku couldn't help but be a bit nervous as to what had convinced Shoto to leave the stands where he'd been, walk down the halls, and into this room with the rest of the class to specifically call his name out.

"Even with your new quirk, I still think I'm more powerful then you," he started, as Izuku realized they were really about to do this in front of most of the class. "But for some reason, All Might seems to have taken a liking to you."

Izuku's shoulders stiffened slightly.

"I don't know why, or where your quirk came from, but it doesn't matter. Because I'm still gonna beat you."

...

...

...

"Maybe you will."

Shoto froze from where he had turned away and started walking off, but didn't turn back around.

"Or maybe you won't," Izuku continued. "I know your more powerful then me. I've known since we were four. You were always the favorite, after all."

Both boys flinched at that, Izuku at how much harsher it sounded then he'd meant it to. But he pushed on. He needed to say this.

"But that doesn't mean I'm backing down. No matter what, I'll be giving this my all too. So we'll just have to see where it leads."

Shoto looked back at him at this, and their eyes met. They kept silent eye contact for a long moment, Izuku refusing to be the one to break it, before something, so small Izuku hardly noticed, flashed across Shoto's face, and his mouth flickered into a tiny smile.

That something flickered away as fast as it had appeared, before anyone else could see it, and before Izuku had a chance to identify it. But it left him in stunned silence as his brother turned and walked away without a response.

He'd rarely seen Shoto at all for the last ten years, even the last few weeks Shoto never had an ounce if emotion on his face. He hasn't seen a trace of anything in those dull eyes since they were so little he could hardly picture it.

But now that he had seen, had remembered, what even the smallest smile looked like on Shoto, he realized just how sad it was that he'd never seen it before.

When the third buzzer rang out, and Present Mic's voice rang out over the speakers, telling them to begin, the first instant held chaos.

The hallways they'd been told to start from was far too small for the rush of determined and rowdy teens that tried to pour through at the exact same time. Everyone started yelling at each other and tried to fight to get out, but it only slowed them down more.

In a flash, Shoto took his first opportunity. His breath blew cold as he stomped his right foot to the ground, and watched with satisfaction as the ground around him froze over in all directions, gripping onto the other contestants feet's and trapping them to the ground.

Then he sprinted forward and through the rest of the people, freezing more of the ground in front of him with every step. It would make it harder for anyone who happened to make it through the ice.

"With a stunning display, Class 1-A's Shoto Todoroki takes the lead early on!" Came Present Mic's booming voice.

With a glance back as he ran, Shoto realized more students then he'd expected had been able to escape his ice and were now pounding forward.

"Icy-hot!" Bakugou's angry yell rang out as he used his explosions to propel himself forward towards Shoto.

Ignoring him, Shoto continued to run along the ice, having known how to move along it easily.

He charged forward until he was met with a blockade of several giant, building sized, green robots that stood in front of him.

"Targets acquired," one announced as more students came up and froze at the sight.

"Aren't those the zero pointer robots from the entrance exam!?" Kaminari, it sounded like, called out.

He clenched his jaw.

This was what the normal Examinees had to face? This is what Izuku faced?

He ignored the light pang in his chest and his sudden urge to look back and try and spot the red headed boy, instead slamming his palm to the ground below him. A second later, he sprinted between the legs of one of the largest ones in front of him, which was now frozen from head to toe in rough ice.

Then he continued forward, ignoring the few other contestant who were catching up behind him, especially a specific blonde, whose screams were accompanied with explosions left and right.

As he ran, the speakers blared once more. "Next up: The Fall!"

Shoto was so distracted by wondering what he meant, when he couldn't see anything in front of him, that he had to skid to a halt suddenly when he spotted it.

In front of him, what had to be at least a mile or two long canyon spread out, deep enough to at least seriously injure someone if they fell. Scattered about the anyone were large, rock pillars with small platforms at the top and tightropes leading to each of them.

Hearing the quick approach of footsteps behind him, he jumped onto one of the tightropes and used his right foot in front of him to freeze over the rope and slide along it until he reached the next platform, and continuing that until he was across the canyon.

Even so, he could still hear voices behind him, and the Present Mic's comments on the other students as they made their way along.

Knowing he didn't have forever, and still vaguely aware of the explosions and screaming, he kept running, refusing to stop until he saw large signs in front of him, reading warnings about explosives.

"The reality here, is that this is a minefield!" Present Mic's announced, as Shoto scanned the worn out dirt marks scattering the ground ahead, clearly marking the bombs underneath.

He grit his teeth as he heard the quickly approaching footsteps and explosions behind him.

He considered briefly freezing it over. It would help him get by faster, but would just end up helping everyone behind him too. Too risky. He'd just have to work his way through and try to avoid the bombs.

He started forward, weaving in between the marks as fast as he could without accidentally stumbling over one or another.

But it didn't last long before he heard sudden explosions just behind him and a painfully familiar yell.

"Don't you dare think you can beat me, half-and-half!" Bakugou blasted forward and paused his explosions just long enough to blast one straight at Shoto, knocking him backwards.

Shoto couldn't avoid the bombs this time as he stumbled to catch his footing, and Bakugou couldn't help but hit one or two as he landed and skidded to a halt on the ground. Shoto's vision was coated in a pink haze as the loud boom blasted in his ears, but he was able to create an ice wall fast enough to block the explosions from knocking him to far back.

When his vision cleared up a bit more, he caught sight of yellow sparks and explosions among the pink as Bakugou flew out of the cloud and continued forward.

Shoto sprinted after him, deciding to take a move straight out of Bakugou's book as he realized the boy was keeping his lead.

He started releasing frost off his right side, upping the cold of his body more and more until he could feel the air around him drop in temperature, but only the air just around him. Then, not using his fire, but warming up has left side quickly, releasing sudden heat into the cooled air. This caused a spark, and an explosion bursted from just behind him.

He'd overestimated exactly how strong the explosion would be, and wasn't completely prepared for how far he blasted forward. But he couldn't help but give a tiny smirk as he caught sight of Bakugou's stunned expression as he flew by.

He'd had the idea for years, only ever having testing it once outside of his training with endeavor, not wanting to tell his father about it. He had actually gotten it from Izuku, not to long after he'd first discovered his quirk. He'd already been training, but it was before the incident with Touya so it hadn't been taking up quite so much of his time yet, and he'd still been able to hang out with Izuku sometimes. Izuku had wanted to do one of his analysis things on him, and during the process, he'd had the idea of cooling the air down around him and then heating it up really fast to cause an explosion.

He silently thanked Izuku for the idea, deciding that he might thank him for real later, and then pushed it to the back of his mind as he landed and rolled a time or two before getting to his feet and continuing to run.

With some yells and more explosions, he listened as Bakugou, still with more speed, caught up to him.

"What was that!?" He slammed into Shoto's side, causing him to stumble and grit his teeth in frustration.

"Nothing you need to know," Shoto slammed right back into him, sick of his antics.

He vaguely registered Present Mic's on the speaker commenting on how they each passed each other multiple time and continued to push and shove.

Finally, Bakugou directed and explosions towards him, pushing them both away and to the ground. They each hit a bomb and barely dodged before they went off.

Breathing heavily, and exhausted from all the running, Shoto glared at the other boy on the ground for a moment before he clambered to his feet. Realizing he was now the only one on the ground, Bakugou did the same, and they stared each other down for a moment. They both blocked out the sound of explosions and yells behind him, and the loud commentary of the speakers.

With a glance, Shoto noted that everyone else was still quite a ways behind them. They had time for a small breather, or a bit of rough housing if it came to it. But he wouldn't be the one to start it. He'd never been the one to start it.

After another moment, Bakugou finally gritted his teeth and moved to charged forward. Shoto tensed, ready to block or do the same.

But then, everything paused and both their eyes flew wide as a giant explosion sounded towards the back of the field. Both pairs of eyes darted back to see a huge cloud of pink, bigger and wilder then any these small bombs could've caused.

Shoto stared in shock at the plume of smoke as Present Mic screamed through the speakers at the explosion.

What on earth could've caused that?

Then, as he caught a glimpse of movement through the top of the plume, he squinted to see a green piece of metal, likely from the robots, fly out of the cloud and forward.

How on earth did a stray piece of metal get all the way-

His thoughts were abruptly cut off as he just barely caught sight of fluffy light red hair peeking over the piece of metal. And following it were round, light grey eyes.

Izuku.

Despite himself, Shoto couldn't help but let a small smile flicker his expression.

Of course it was his twin brother. Who else could manage, in one move, to be reckless and almost hurt himself, surprise and gather thousand of people's attention, not use a quirk, probably break a record, and...

...Fly past every other contestant there, including him.

His smile vanished as Izuku flew closer.

"With a stunning performance, Izuku Todoroki charges for first place!" Present Mic screamed.

Izuku flew past on his piece of metal.

"Scratch that, the lead is his!"

Bakugou reacted first, lighting up new explosions and blasting himself forwards. "Deku! What the heck do you think your doing!?"

Shoto reacted a millisecond after, sprinting forward and freezing the ground beneath his feet with every step. He didn't have time to worry about the people the ice path would help, all he could focus on was getting in front of Izuku again.

"In a startling change of events," Present Mic continued, "those two aren't fighting anymore! There chasing Todoroki- eh, Izuku! That's what having a common enemy will do in these games!"

All Shoto could think about was going forward, faster, faster.

Izuku was falling out of the sky now. Once he landed, he had no way of keeping his speed against him, or Bakugou. All he had to do was keep moving, and find a way to beat Bakugou.

Izuku, now upside down and falling just in front of Shoto, met his eyes. And the split second they had eye contact was enough to make Shoto falter.

Because, even if it had been a decade since he really knew Izuku, he knew that look in his eyes. He knew, because it was the exact look he'd seen in his eyes the day of the fire. Just before he'd stopped Izuku from racing into the flames, he'd seen it.

The mix of determination and desperation. The willingness to do whatever was in his power to achieve his goal, even if it meant giving up anything and everything. That look that read, so plain and obvious, that Izuku was going to do this, whether it was saving a life, or winning a competition, he'd do what his mind was set on.

He really hadn't been lying when he said he'd be giving it his all. Shoto could see that clear as day now.

Which is why Shoto wasn't at all surprised when Izuku suddenly whipped around and planted each of his feet on Shoto and Bakugou's backs, then pushed off of them and slung the piece of metal to the ground with harsh power.

Shoto barely realized what was happening before his vision was once again completely clouded in pink, and he was flying to the side by the force of the explosion. He heard a grunt from Bakugou, and faintly recognized, as he wobbled to his feet, the speakers booming voice.

"And Izuku flies forward once again, keeping the lead and charging for the finish line! Eraser, your kids are amazing! What have you been teaching them!?"

Shoto charged forward, flying out of the plume at the same time as Bakugou, and continuing forward on his ice as fast as he could, Bakugou blasting forward beside him.

"This has nothing to do with me," Aizawa dully responded.

Even as Shoto ran, even as he put all his effort into going as fast as he could, in the back of his head, he knew he wouldn't make it. Izuku was too far ahead, too close to the finish. Neither him or Bakugou were going fast enough to reach him before he reached the end.

He was going to lose to Izuku.

But for some reason, he wasn't near as upset about it as he should be.

But still, he ran, faster then he had in a long time.

Bakugou wasn't even yelling anymore, too focused on moving forward, just like him.

They entered the tunnel, darkness over taking them, blocking out the speakers. The only noise in the dark was the sound of sliding on ice, explosions, and rushed footsteps.

Everyone's focus was on the light at the end of the tunnel, and as they got closer and closer, the speakers steadily came back into ear range.

"Well, that's that, folks! Eraserhead is a terrible teacher!"

"I'm what now?"

"Anyways, first one to exit the tunnel and enter the stadium again is the winner! And that is..."

Shoto couldn't tell what he felt as he watched Izuku's silhouette sprint into the light in front of them both.

"Izuku Todoroki!"

A moment later, Shoto was bent over on the grass in the center of the stadium, panting with his hands on his knees. He'd blocked out the speakers, blocked out the crowds cheering, blocked out the other students rushing forwards. Everything was quiet in his head, except his racing thoughts.

He should be upset, furious even. But he didn't feel the least bit of anger towards Izuku. Because even though he hated that he'd lost, he couldn't help but be proud of Izuku. That was an incredibly smart play, he deserved that win.

But he also couldn't help but be disappointed in himself. And frustrated, because...

He glanced at the stands, where Endeavor stood in between several rows, glaring down at him, then looked away under his father's heavy glare.

He wasn't sure what Endeavor was more upset about. The fact that he'd lost, or the fact that Izuku won.

Shoto couldn't help but feel a bit smug. He'd heard Endeavor talk bad about Izuku while he trained him. He coudlnt hold back the smirk that curled up his mouth, proud Izuku had showed him he was wrong.

But he could also see a bit of that smugness in his father, and he knew why.

He thought back to what his father had said a few nights before.

"You'll never win the sports festival with only half your power, much less be a hero. You need my fire!"

Shoto gritted his teeth as his fists clenched.

He'd just proven his father right, by losing to Izuku, someone he'd known he was stronger then since he was four. Even Izuku had admitted it.

And it wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
