Jack was beyond exhausted, it was the middle of the night and he just got back home from a midnight walk with his two month old son. It was the fifth day in a row this little boy wasn't going to fall asleep.

He was wide awake and screaming as if he needed to be heard even at the north pole.

For the last two days it was Sam who had taken the walk around the block, but as she was the one who fed him, tonight it was Jack's turn.

They walked with him, they sang, they talked, they rubbed his belly, they fed him, they let him scream and ignored him for a bit, they cuddled him, they did everything possible but nothing seemed to stop him crying.

Jack pushed the stroller back into the house and took little Jake back to his mother. Time to eat.

For the first time in days he found his wife asleep and cuddled into the blankets.

He hated to have to wake her, but it was time and maybe it would work this time.

He placed his hand on her shoulder and whispered: "Hey Sam, we're back. I think Jake's hungry."

With her eyes closed and very sleepy, she reached out and told him.

"Give him here."

For half an hour this little guy was nursing at her breast and there was silence. But as soon as she put him up to burp him the crying started again.

"Argh..." Sam nearly screamed.

Jack sat next to her on the bed, his back at the backrest and his head leaned against the wall.

"Make him stop, Jack. I swear to you something will happen if you don't make him stop screaming!"

"Why me? What am I supposed to do, Sam? I did everything I thought of. And more. He has no belly ache, it's way too soon for him to get his teeth, he just isn't tired and wants all the spotlight on him. I don't know what else to do."

"You wanted him, now deal with him!" she screamed.

"And you didn't want him?" he asked, surprised and a little bit hurt. Knowing fully well that she didn't mean it like this.

"It was your idea!"

"But Sam, I never said it would be easy."

"You said it would be fun, you said a child would bring us so much joy. Right now it brings me to the end of my strength. I haven't slept for days, I haven't showered for at least two days, I'm exhausted and I think I have changed so many diapers I lost even count of them."

It wasn't long after Sam finished her speech, they sat on the bed next to each other, staring at the baby boy in front of them who was after all their screaming and swearing fast asleep for the first time in days.

He smiled and giggled in his sleep and Sam and Jack were watching him with a big smile on their faces.

Jack put his arm around his wife and kissed her on the top of her head as she leaned even more into his embrace.

"No Sam, I never said it would be easy. But I said it would be worth the effort and it is damn perfect, isn't it?"

"That it is, Jack O'Neill, that it is!"
