With the seventh round now behind them, Brunhilde gathered everyone. She'll be the first to admit it: They won because of pure luck. If Erebus hadn't shown his face, Buddha would be dead and the gods would be in the lead right now.
She let out a sigh before she began to speak.
"The Primordial Gods… They're like the gods of the gods. You've seen Zeus become frightened. Well any sane person would be if they knew how strong they are."
Goll looks down at the floor. "So these gods… could protect humanity if they wanted to."
"They have existed before humanity, and they're entirely indifferent to what happens to them." Said Brunhilde.
"Before humanity?" Said Saitama. "Just how old are we talking about here?"
"They are as old as the universe itself." Answered Brunhilde.
"First, there was Chaos, The Great Void. Then came Gaia, the personification of the Earth. Tartarus, the great chasm that exists beneath the Earth. And Eros, the personification of love, desire, and attraction.
Two children were then independently produced by Chaos. Erebus, the personification of darkness. And his sister, Nyx, the personification of night.
Erebus knew nothing but hatred before he met his sister, and Nyx knew nothing of hatred before meeting her brother. The two completed each other and Erebus felt love for the first time. Nyx, on the other hand, demanded his eternal loyalty in exchange for her to never leave his side. Erebus instantly agreed to her terms. The brother and sister embraced each other in an event I personally like to call 'The First Marriage.'"
Goll's eyes lit up. "So they're like… the Adam and Eve of the universe?"
"That's one way to look at it, yeah." Brunhilde nodded. "As newlyweds, they engaged in what I could only describe as celestial sex."
"And now you're making it gross."
"With marriage, comes children! And they had a LOT of them!" Brunhilde exclaimed. "Let me list them off for you!
Their first born son was Aether, the God of Light and creator of the stars. All the constellations in the sky were of his design. He's still making stars to this day. With their light taking a very long time to reach Earth.
Then there was Hemera. Goddess of the Daytime. She came up with an idea for a cycle of her brother's light and her mother's darkness.
Their third child is Moros. The God of Impending Doom. He introduced unpleasant fate into existence. As he found no use for love."
"That's… horrible." Commented Goll. Brunhilde continues.
"Then came the demon goddesses of violent death. The Keras. A dark reflection of the Valkyrie. There's only one thing they love and that's to watch mortals die in the most gruesome ways imaginable.
Their next child is quite the opposite. He is known as Thanatos. Unlike his sisters, he is the god of gentle death. To him, death is a release from pain. He spends every minute of every hour of every day and night relieving people of their pain in the only way he knows how, by killing them.
His younger brother is not nearly as busy as he is. Hypnos is known to everyone as the God of Sleep. It is through his hand that people become refreshed after resting their bodies. Renewing themselves for whatever lies ahead.
With sleep, there are often dreams. Hypno's younger brothers: The Oneiroi, are a group of gods who personify dreams and nightmares. They are often utilized by other gods to send messages to humans.
Then there is the Goddess of Pain and Distress. Oizys. Very little is known of her aside from the allegation that she was produced by Nyx through her experiment in asexual reproduction.
Nyx and Erebus went on to produce another child. This one's name is Momus. He is the God of Criticism. Every single time that anybody has ever criticised anything, Momus has already put the necessary words together before they are formed in the mind.
Then there came the three sisters of fate. The Moirai. Clotho, the spinner. Lachesis, the alotter. And Atropos, the unturnable. Their unique ability is to see what they call 'The Law of the Universe.' They spend their days ensuring that every being, mortal and divine, lives out their destiny.
Next came their younger sister: Nemesis. The Goddess of Revenge. Her life's goal is to achieve what she calls 'Ultimate Balance' in the universe. Good constantly overwhelms evil while evil does the same with good.
Apate is known as the personification of deceit. Like Oizys, very little is known about her. There are those that say that she is the reason why Loki is what he is today.
The next child Nyx and Erebus had is different from everyone I've talked about so far. Philotes. She is the Goddess of Friendship. Nobody can bring themselves to hate her. How can they? Her friendly smile is enough to make anybody's day.
After that, came her younger brother, Geras, The God of Old Age. There are many rumors that surround him. One that says he got involved with a project of Zeus. Another was that he got into a fight with Heracles. Interestingly enough, Heracles himself never confirmed or denied any interactions he may or may not have had with the son of Nyx. It is an unsolvable mystery if I've ever seen one.
Second to last was the mischievous Eris, The Goddess of Strife. She is best known for her part in starting the Trojan War.
And finally the youngest of Nyx's children is Charon. The Ferryman of the Underworld. For a fee, he carries the souls of the deceased across the rivers Acheron and Styx. In Vergil's Aeneid, those who couldn't pay, had to wander near the shores for a hundred years before they were allowed to cross.
So yeah, that's all of Erebus and Nyx's kids. Does anybody have any questions?"
Saitama said nothing as he continued picking at his ear. Mash also said nothing as he continued munching on a cream puff. Maya, on the other hand, was invested in the story.
"So a brother and sister that married each other went on to shape the world we live in. I never thought Greek Mythology could be so interesting."
Letting out a sigh, Brunhilde ran her fingers through her hair. "I shouldn't have said anything." She then walked away. Off to make the preparations for Round Eight.
