But the gossips did not stop.
It didn't take long for the rumors to reach the ears of some higher-ups in the village, and Kakashi soon found himself summoned to the Hokage's office once again.
Tsunade looked at Kakashi. She did not want to stop him in whatever he does to support Sakura. But the village's reputation is at stake.
Kakashi saw the exhaustion in Tsunade's face.
"Kakashi, we need to address the rumors circulating in the village. Your constant presence by Sakura's side is raising eyebrows, and it's affecting both of your reputations."
Kakashi sighed, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I can't just abandon her, Tsunade. She's been through a lot, and she needs support."
"I get that, Kakashi," Tsunade replied. "But you're also a high-ranking ninja, and your actions are being closely observed. The village is concerned about the image you're projecting. We can't afford to have doubts about your professionalism and commitment to your duties."
Kakashi nodded, knowing that Tsunade was right. The delicate balance between personal and professional life was a challenge he had always struggled with.
"I'm not asking you to abandon Sakura, but you need to find a way to balance your responsibilities. It's not just about you; it's about the reputation of the village and the faith people have in our ninja. We can't afford any more scandals," Tsunade explained, her tone firm.
"I understand, Hokage-sama. I'll try to be more discreet," Kakashi said, his visible eye reflecting a mix of determination and concern.
Tsunade nodded. "Good. I know Sakura needs you, but we have to navigate this carefully. We don't want to give the village more reasons to doubt her capabilities or yours."
With a heavy heart, Kakashi left the Hokage's office, realizing that he had to find a way to support Sakura while also fulfilling his duties as a ninja and maintaining the village's trust.
The days that followed were challenging for Kakashi. He tried to maintain a balance, being there for Sakura while also fulfilling his duties. The disapproving glances and hushed conversations in the village persisted, but he endured them with stoic resolve.
Sakura felt the sudden shift. And as much as she hates it, she knows that it was needed. She stopped asking Kakashi to accompany her everywhere and started to ask for missions.
Tsunade did not want to give her any. Preferring that she remain inside the village, but she insisted.
"Hokage-sama, I need to get out of here. I need to be alone."
"You said that already and look what happened."
"I can manage, Hokage-sama." Sakura assured her.
Tsunade sighed. She really needs someone to take a solo mission. But she's not sure if Sakura is the right one to take it.
"Please, Hokage-sama."
"I hope I won't regret this." Tsunade muttered as she handed the mission scroll to her. "Don't let anyone know about that. That is a top-secret mission. But are you really ready for that?"
"I can manage, Hokage-sama."
Sakura left a few hours after that.
