Disclaimer: I don't own Spyro the Dragon.

"Look at that!" Spyro said to Sparx. "A work of art - just in time for Halloween!"

The young dragon was gazing at the large pumpkin which was sitting in front of him. He had just finished carving into it. He grinned as he took in the outline of his own likeness. His purple scaly face was filled with pride over seeing himself on a huge orange fruit.

"Not a bad carving job for someone who doesn't have any hands!" Spyro grinned as he glanced at his horns on his head. "These babies can do more than just whooping bad guy's butts!"

"Whatever you say, Spyro," Sparx buzzed with a weary shake of his tiny head. Even while doing a simple activity as pumpkin carving, Spyro couldn't resist bragging about his capabilities.

"All we gotta do now is light it up so it's all glowy on the inside!" Spyro frowned. "How we gonna do that, pal?"

Sparx perked his gaze up. Hearing Spyro was at a loss was a call for the him to take action. Knowing exactly what to do, he flew swiftly into the pumpkin. The outline of the dragon carving appeared to lit up as the inside of the fruit was illuminated from the glow of the golden dragonfly.

"Like this, Spyro!" Sparx called from inside the pumpkin. "I can easily help you light this-"

"Wait, I've got it!" Spyro cried, clearly not taking any notice of Sparx. "Of course this is how I should light this pumpkin up! I am such a smart dragon!"

"Uh, Spyro…" Sprx murmured anxiously. "What are you doing?"

Spyro was still paying no mind to Sparx as he gazed down towards the pumpkin. Failing to realise it was already lit up on the inside by his best friend, he grinned widely over what he was going to do to it - as he took a deep breath.

"Spyro, no!" Sparx cried, realising what the dragon was about to do. "Stop! Don't do it! I'm in here-"

At that moment, a large shower of flames erupted from Spyro's mouth. The dragon blasted his hot fiery breath all over the pumpkin. The orange fruit was completely engulfed by the golden flames - as was the tiny dragonfly on the inside.

Once he'd finished, Spyro stopped blowing his fire breath out from his throat. He looked down towards the carved fruit to see what it looked like now - and his eyes widened upon finding out.

No longer was there an orange pumpkin with a glowing outline of the little dragon on the front.

Instead, in front of Spyro was a black smouldering mess. He had completely toasted the fruit by trying to light it up with his flames. Smoke flickered from the sizzling remains of the pumpkin. It had not stood a change against the specking fire was had billowed from the small body of the young dragon.

As Spyro took in the results of what he just did, a tiny shame emerged from the burnt ruins of the pumpkin. Sparx spluttered and let out some tiny coughed. The little dragonfly completely ash black from being burnt by his best friend.

"Oh no!" Spyro wailed. "What have I done?"

"I'll say!" Sparx buzzed irritably. "I told you I would handle the lighting, Spyro. There was no need for you to use your breath-"

"I've completely roasted the pumpkin!"

Sparx blinked. He was astonished that Spyro was more horrified over what he'd than to the pumpkin than what he'd done to him. He took in how distraught the dragon looked as he stood over the remains of the fruit. He was showing no regret whatsoever over burning his best friend.

"After all the awesome work I did carving this baby up in time for Halloween!" Spyro cried unhappily. "Now I'm gonna have to start all over again! Get me a new pumpkin, Sparx!"

Sparx frowned. There was no way he was going to get another pumpkin for Spyro to be burnt by him again. The tiny dragonfly wasn't sure why he bothered protecting the young dragon from danger. If anything, he was the one who needed protecting from the carelessness of his air-headed best friend.

"Oh, Spyro…" Sparx murmured. "You purple putz…"
