Naruto Uzumaki, a young man with a dream to one day play professional baseball was naturally gifted in the sport. Having all the tools, speed, power, arm strength and contact. Many of the scouts that came to his house said he'd be a great player.
Playing Centre Field the blond was known for his home run stealing leaps that left his opponents cursing about how good he was in their dugout. Having seen how much of a talent the blond from Japan was, the LSU Tigers one of the top schools in the United States handed the blond an athletic scholarship. Accepting and committing to LSU the blond took his talents to Baton Rouge where he didn't waste time impressing his new coaches and teammates with his skills and leadership attributes during their pre-season training. Constantly telling his teammates to do their best and never being selfish regarding padding stats, the blond was a joy in the clubhouse.
Come his first game for the Tigers, his coach placed him at the 5 position on the batting order. Playing home at the Skip Bertram Field, the blond showed all of his fellow students how baseball should be played. Going 3-4 for the game, he drove in two RBIs and a home run that made him the talk of the baseball fanatics on campus. Keeping this momentum throughout the whole season, he developed well in his awareness and communication at Centre Field to the point he was one of the best players in that position.
Being named a Freshman All-American the blond wasn't to be messed with as he continued his work ethic in the off-season.
Come his sophomore season, the Tigers led the Southeastern Conference, won the College World Series and Naruto was named the National Player Of The Year for his stellar play and leadership. That and having crazy baseball numbers for the year.
.401 Avg/.751 OPS/ 134 Stolen Bases / 78% Caught Stealing Percentage
Feeling confident in his himself and having enough stock to go pro, he announced that he'd participate in the upcoming First-Year Draft.
Waiting patiently in the green room, Naruto was a nervous wreck but when he got the honours of being the opening pick of the draft, he led the floodgates open as he got drafted to his favourite team. The New York Yankees.
After having signed his contract, the blond was given a tour of Yankee stadium, seeing the sights and meeting a few of the staff, he was put on in a SUV that took him to the team practise facility.
The complex was huge and the blond could see many players working hard seeing as the season was still under way. Naruto meeting a few of them was impressed with how some of them paid attention to his questions.
After a few weeks of playing in the minors, Naruto's skills showed he never deserved to play with the small fish, so by the off-season of the next season he was already gearing up for Double-A action with the Somerset Patriots.
'This is just a stepping stone for me.' Naruto thought as he got off the bus. Having travelled quite a distance from his single A team, he took all his luggage.
Holding his baseball bat with one hand, and shifting his cap in a rebellious way like how his idol Ken Griffey Jr., did it. The blond walked into the team facility with a smile on his face.
It wasn't as very nice as the one back in Baton Rouge, but the people there welcomed him with open arms. Meeting up with his new manager, the man welcomed him and gave him a little tour around the facility. After that, they sat down to have a little chat.
The gaffer's office had a desk and some bobbleheads of some baseball legends, the likes of Babe Ruth and the Big Unit.
"So kid, what are your goals for the future when it comes to the game?" the man asked as he sat behind his desk, looking at Naruto who sat across from him. "Well sir, I want to be part of Cooperstown. It's been my dream since I was a kid to be inducted into the hall of fame, " the blond replied as the manager nodded. "That's a very noble goal," he began. "It won't be easy to be part of the Hall of Fame, but if you work hard and dedicate yourself, I'm sure there'll be space for you there."
"Thank you, sir, I can assure you I won't let you down."
The manager nodded. "Good," he replied as he looked through one of the cabinets of his desk. "Here's the address for your apartment, it's not that lavish but it's livable. Just promise you won't bring any girls there, alright?" Naruto smiled. "I'll try, sir. I'll try." he took the card and the key.
When the meeting finally wrapped up, Naruto changed into the Patriots uniform as he went to the practise fields where his teammates were doing spring training. Meeting and greeting with some of them, he was appointed a veteran who taught him the ropes of Double-A.
A few Days Later
"Well folks, it's been far too long. After a long off-season break spring is back and it's time for baseball." the sports broadcaster stated. "Welcome to the Patriots ballpark as today the Somerset Patriots will be hosting the Trenton Thunder in their season opener," he added.
"Today we have minor league baseball on the tap for you, as we treat you to seeing the stars of tomorrow, today. One particular future star is Naruto Uzumaki, who is one of the fastest players to ever be promoted to Double-A baseball for the Yankees since Robinson Cano."
The camera tuned in to Naruto who stood on the ballpark warming up his throws with his teammates in the infield.
"For those that don't know about this kid, he's a former LSU Tiger that has great contact and power with the stick, quick reactions when it comes to chasing balls and thanks to his visit to Baton Rouge he's one of the fastest prospects when it comes to speed. In short, he's a completely rounded player with all five tools sharpened to a lethal point."
"You could say the Yankees were more than lucky to find this diamond. He's got a great attitude and an uncanny amount of drive."
Down on the field, Naruto stood in deep centre field as he began shagging balls from his teammates that warmed up their swinging.
The pitcher got ready to deliver his pitch, which made Naruto stay on his toes. Pitching to the batter, the man made serious contact, as the crack of the bat was heard by the entire infield.
Naruto looking high in the sky, saw the white ball gaining altitude. Seeing that it was going behind him, he didn't waste time running after it. Keeping one eye on the ball and the other on the wall, he could see that it was losing feet.
Running up to the wall he quickly took off his cap as he jumped on the wall, stretching his hand out as the ball rested in his glove. "Too easy!" Naruto celebrated as he jumped down and threw the ball over to the shortstop who stood behind second base.
"Nice catch there, Naru." his right fielder teammate stated as the blond smiled. "Thanks."
"Where did you learn that anyway?"
"I've been practising that move for years, ever since I could field." he replied. "Really? Think you could teach me that one time?" he asked as he returned back to his spot.
"Maybe." the blond replied with a smile.
"Now with all the introductions aside, we can finally see if Naruto Uzumaki lives up to the hype as he's the one to start us out today."
Naruto took a few swings on the deck as he warmed his arms, quickly putting the warm-up bats down, he put on his helmet and walked over to home plate with his orange bat.
Greeting the umpire and the opposition's catcher, he got into the batter's box and took a deep breath in.
Having spoken with his manager earlier he expected him to get on base to start the ball game. Facing a right-handed pitcher he was already at a disadvantage as he was hitting from the left.
Seeing the pitcher get in motion, Naruto quickly raised his left foot and rotated his hips as he hit the ball with a lot of power.
"It's hard drive to the left side. The ball is past the third baseman for a base hit." Naruto slowed down as he planted his foot on the first base plate. "Nice swing, kid. Nice swing." Naruto's first base coach told him giving him a quick fist bump and taking his batting gloves. "Now listen up, the guy that's pitching has a very slow pitching motion so we want you to test his catcher by stealing second. Can you do that?"
Naruto nodded as he gave the man a fist bump as an answer. Taking two steps away from the plate, he hoisted his pants up a bit. Keeping a close eye on the catcher and first baseman he read them for an assurance that they were only paying attention to the batter, seeing no weird pauses from them he took another cheeky step further up the basepath.
The pitcher this time received a warning from his catcher, but the man didn't pay any mind as he quickly got into his motion.
"Uzumaki is on the run for second!" The pitcher pitched a high-up pitch meant to be easy for his catcher. The masked player getting the ball threw it over to second for his shortstop to take out the blond. Naruto quickly laid himself out and slid the rest of the way as he touched the base and later felt a hard tag on his back.
"He's safe!" the second base umpire shouted as Naruto smiled. Quickly dusting himself, the blond received a standing ovation from his supporters as with the first two pitches of the game, he was already in scoring position on second. Being driven in by the third batter for the team. Naruto returned to the dugout with a happy expression.
"I'm just getting started," he muttered to himself.
The Patriots ballpark was booming with excitement, the final out at the bottom of ninth inning would soon occur.
"And that's a high fly ball over to centre field!" the commentator shouted as the camera man followed the ball. "Uzumaki's under the ball, he raises his glove up and..." the ball landed softly in the blond's glove." with his final game wrapped up. Naruto threw the final ball to the spectators as he headed for the bullpen.
Celebrating the win with his teammates, Naruto could wait to see how his entire season would finish.
