Later that night, Pineapple Chunks and Scheherazade got ready to sleep in their respective sleeping bags. As they did so, they couldn't help but ruminate on how they'd betrayed Rock Justice. They tried to convince themselves that it was for the best, but it wasn't working. It still seemed to stick with them even as they drifted to sleep. Had it really been worth it? They couldn't help but wish they'd stayed loyal to Rock Justice instead. Maybe then, things would be okay. Maybe then, they wouldn't be obsessing over it... and it wouldn't be bleeding into their dreams.
In the Astral Plane, Pineapple Chunks and Scheherazade stumbled upon Rock Justice as he was trying in vain to fight off the mooks restraining him. It seemed as thought Rock Justice was trying to the best of his ability to hold his own and break free, but he couldn't. Without hesitation, Pineapple Chunks and Scheherazade rushed over to help him, only to be blocked by an invisible wall.
"Rock Justice?" Scheherazade frantically signed. "Rock Justice?!"
Unfortunately for her, Rock Justice couldn't seem to hear her, either.
Scheherazade proceeded to bang on the invisible wall until she couldn't and instead started sinking into the wall.
"Scheherazade?" Pineapple Chunks frantically yelled out to her as she sank into the wall. "Scheherazade?! SCHEHERAZADE?!"
Pineapple Chunks could only helplessly watch as his friend sunk into the wall and seemingly vanished out of sight. He fell onto his knees and collapsed into a grieving mess. Meanwhile, now unable to reach Rock Justice, Scheherazade was still able to sense the vox for him. She huffed at him.
"Um, can you hear me?!" she signed again.
When he didn't respond, she pounded again.
"Rock Justice?!" she signed once more. "I can't reach you!"
Still no response. In fact, he seemed to have gone completely mute. Now Scheherazade could feel something unpleasant, something she wasn't sure what it was. It was like something… dead. He was frozen, and something seemed to be trying to revive him. To her horror, it almost seemed like it was failing.
Rock Justice gave a long sigh of despair and then weakly mouthed, "I-I hope you're happy with the choice you made..."
At that moment, Scheherazade woke up in a cold sweat and catapulted up from her sleeping bag. She then started crying, tears flowing liberally down her face.
Pineapple Chunks grabbed her arm and shook her. "Scheherazade! Are you okay?!"
"Yes," she signed, tears still flowing down her face.
"Scheherazade, it looked like you were having a nightmare. Are you okay?"
"No, I... I saw Rock Justice dead and I couldn't reach him! I think he was upset with us for betraying him because he mouthed to me, 'I hope you're happy with the choice you made.' I..." Scheherazade started crying even harder. "Oh, Rock Justice, please forgive me for betraying you!"
Pineapple Chunks looked down, and then he stared up at the ceiling, taking deep, ragged breaths. "I had the same nightmare as you. I know it's hard to believe now, but we can get through this. After all, we've got the last two rounds to look forward to."
"I know," Scheherazade agreed. "I just... I wish we didn't have to betray him like that. Promise me you won't do the same to me."
"Betray you, you mean? Of course I'm not going to betray you. We're a team whether you like it or not."
"Alright, I believe you. Still, what if it comes down to just us in the final round? After all, there are only eight of us left now."
Pineapple Chunks chuckled. "We'll be fine. I'm confident of that. Well, I better let you sleep. We've got a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
"Okay, thank you. I'm glad you're my friend."
"Me too."
Determined to find Pineapple Chunks and save him and the other U.Z.Z. chiefs, Victor pressed on with the mission. He had no choice anyhow, given that Anita had to be flown back to the U.Z.Z. infirmary for treatment. It was hard enough for Victor to complete a regular mission without her, but this was even more difficult. Even so, he had to do this... for her, for their children. The fate of the world was hanging in the balance.
And so he, Jeremy, Tamara, Milou, Patrice, Behati, and Clearence all pressed on with the mission. Nothing was more important now than getting their bosses back. That's what they told themselves anyway. Even so, it was hard to stay focused.
"Alright, now what?" Clearence asked. "Where do we go from here?"
"If we can just find the arena where the rounds take place, then maybe we'll have a better chance of saving our bosses that way," Tamara replied. "Of course, that's assuming that's where they are anyway."
"What about the sleeping area? Shouldn't we check that, too?"
"Of course, of course. But first, the arena."
Jeremy took a deep breath. "Alright, let's do this."
They then quickly approached the arena within a few minutes, only to quickly find it empty.
"Hello?" Behati called out loudly enough for her voice to quickly echo through the room. "Anybody else in here?"
No response.
"Hmph," Tamara grunted. "Guess the fifth round hasn't started yet. That, or it might be taking place in a different room."
"Merde!" Milou exclaimed. "I didn't even consider that! Where do you think it could be taking place?"
"I... I... I don't know." Tamara seemed stumped by this. "I... I..."
"Oh shit," Clearence muttered. "We have to find our bosses right now. Who knows what the fifth round will be like for them?"
"Yes, we have to find our bosses!" Victor exclaimed, sensing the urgency in their voices. "Come on, we've got to move now. Everyone, head toward the next area!"
Tamara nodded. "Right, let's move."
All seven of the U.Z.Z. agents left the arena just as quickly as they'd arrived. Time was of the essence now more than ever. They had to find their bosses before it was too late.
