Chapter 18
A/N: Hey guys I know it's been a while. I have no excuse other than the fact that I got wrapped up in reading. Then I stupidly started a new story. Anywho, so I just finished a story that I have been working on for over a year. Now, I'm focusing on this one. This chapter is more of a filler chapter than anything else. Next chapter the boys are coming home.
Jess POV
The next couple of months seemed to fly by. Gemma had found me and Hap a beautiful house. The funny part is that the house is across the street from Ope's. When I told Hap about the house, he was ecstatic. He told me that at least living across the street from Ope, he wouldn't worry about me quite as much. The house was perfect. It was 4 bedrooms. Three were upstairs and then one downstairs. It had two and a half bathrooms and a fenced in backyard. I'd convinced Maria not to sell the house until we could get everything packed and sorted. Mine and Hap's apartment took no time at all to sort. Lee was sad that we were moving back to Charming. He'd become another father figure to me. He said that he felt like he was going to miss out on watching my child grow up. It made me sad and Lee and I had hugged and even cried a little.
Ope had been great. He was really living up to his best friend title. He'd helped me pack everything up and get everything moved. Fortunately, the only place we had to sell was Maria's. He'd gone with me to my doctor's appointments. And when I needed he would even drive me down to Stockton so that I could visit with Hap. When I found out the sex of the baby, Ope and I headed to visit Hap. When I told him that we were having a girl he looked terrified. But then after a few minutes he had the biggest grin on his face. He was happy and excited.
*TIME JUMP*
The guys had been locked up for a little over a year. Gemma had been handling things at the garage, while I spent most of my time taking care of my house and Maria. Ope helped get me and Maria to our doctor's appointments. Things between Tara and I weren't any better. I'd gotten to know Lyla better and I thought that she might be just what Ope needed in his life.
I'd started trying to sort the nursery. I was a little late getting to it, especially since I was due in the next week. Lyla and Gemma had come over and helped me get things organized. Ope had gotten the prospects to come over the week before and paint the nursery. So now that, that was done I could start arranging everything. Gemma and Maria both said that I was nesting. The only thing I could do was huff at them.
Ope refused to let me go see Hap, who I was missing badly. He said that it was because I was too close to my due date. He was afraid that I'd end up giving birth on the side of the road. I couldn't help but laugh at that. Leave it to Ope to worry about me having a baby on the side of the road.
It was exactly four days later, that everything changed. I'd woken up at four in the morning with severe back pain. When I'd managed to sit up in bed, I'd realized that I was having contractions. By the time, I'd made it to the bathroom to pee, my water broke. I somehow managed to make it back to my bed, where I grabbed my phone and called Ope and asked him to come take me to the hospital. It only took him about ten minutes before he was walking into my house to help me out to the truck and we were off to the hospital.
Once the nurses got me situated, Ope called Gem to let her know where we were. It didn't take her before she came barging into my hospital room. She started firing out questions and before I'd had a chance to answer she'd tried to kick Ope out of the room. I quickly vetoed that. I wasn't letting Ope anywhere out of my sight.
The nurse came in several times over the next couple of hours. Every so often Ope would step outside with his phone attached to his ear. I was pretty sure that he was on the phone with Rosen trying to see if there was any way to get Hap here for the short term. No doubt they were probably throwing my last name around. The "Hale" went far.
I'd managed to get comfortable enough to take a small nap. I knew that things would be getting crazy later and I wanted to rest as much as possible. When I woke up, I saw Ope sitting beside my bed. "Ope." I whispered.
He looked over at me. "Hey sleepyhead. How you feelin?" He asked me.
"Like I could push a baby out of my vagina." I said.
Ope cringed but I heard laughter coming from near the window. I knew that laughter but I didn't want to get my hopes up. I turned as much as I could to see Hap leaning against the window. "Hap…" I whispered.
He quickly crossed the room. He leaned down and kissed my forehead before kissing my lips. "Hey beautiful." He said brushing some hair away from my face.
I felt some tears fall down my face. Stupid hormones. "I've missed you so much. How are you here?" I asked.
"Rosen called the Warden. Threw your last name around a bit. Next thing I know, I'm being pulled out of my cell, loaded into a van and told that my girl is in labor. When we got here, I was shown to your room and told that I had 24-hours before I had to go back and that a guard would be outside the door. I don't care. I'm just glad that I don't have to miss this." He said.
"Me neither." I said.
All of a sudden, I felt a contraction rip through me. I screamed out in pain. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ope run out of the run. I reached for Hap's hand and squeezed it as tight as I could. A few minutes later, Ope and the nurse had returned. She said something but I couldn't tell you what it was. The next thing I know, their prepping me for an emergency C-section. They injection some kind of medicine into my IV and a minute later there was darkness.
When I woke up, my clothes had been changed and I was extremely sore. I looked around the room and saw Hap standing by the window where he'd been the last time that I'd woken up. "Hey." I whispered.
Hap turned around to look at me. "Hey beautiful." He said.
"The baby?" I asked, slight panic in my voice.
He crossed the room to me. He brushed some hair away from my face. "She's perfect." He said. "Ten fingers, ten toes. And a set of lungs." He told me and I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
"Where is she?" I asked.
"In the nursery. There running all the newborn tests on her." He told me.
He sat down in the chair beside the bed. I nodded. "How long do you have?" I asked, knowing that he'd have to go back.
"I got a little time." He said. I nodded. He reached out and grabbed my hand. "What should we name her?" He asked me, changing the subject.
"I was thinking Emma Jane." I told him. I'd been thinking about what to name her for a while. I wanted to give her a name that meant something.
"I think it's perfect." Hap said.
I slid over in the bed, and gently pulled Hap's hand so that he knew where I wanted him. He climbed onto the bed and once he was situated, I laid my head on his chest. "I'm ready for all of this to be over Hap." I whispered.
He wrapped an arm around my back and gently rubbed my back. "I know baby. Rosen has a meeting with the Warden and the DA this week. Hopefully, he can find something out." Hap told me.
"I hope so. I don't want you to miss too much of her life." I said. I felt a couple of tears fall down my face.
I felt Hap kiss the top of my head. "I know baby. I know." He said.
It was a little while later, Hap and I were sitting holding Emma while I fed her when there was a knock on the door. It opened and I saw the guard that had been assigned to Hap. "It's time." The guard said.
Hap nodded. He turned to me. "I love you. Both of you." Hap said.
I leaned forward and kissed him. "We love you too." I said.
I sat there and watched as the guard put Hap back in handcuffs before leading him out of the room. As soon as they left, I let everything out. I wasn't sure how long I sat there and cried. I just wanted Hap to come back.
