Summary: Despite all he said earlier, Drake still has his doubts. Can some encouraging words from loved ones ease these doubts?
[Today is a momentous day in the history of Gravesfield. Here, under the eyes of the Almighty One himself, demons and witches had been confirmed to be fact, not fiction. Now, the question on everyone's mind is, can we co-exist with these beings from another realm?]
With a sigh, Drake turned off the TV and leaned his head against the couch. He closed his eyes, trying to fight off the headache that had been coming since the afternoon. He heard someone enter the room and cracked one eye open.
"I thought you would be happier?" Sally asked as she took a seat next to her husband. "This something you're family has been working for nearly four hundred years."
Drake lifted his head and looked at his wife as she got close to him. He wrapped an arm around her as Sally rested her head on Drake's shoulder.
"I'm happy," Drake said after a second, sounding tired. "It's just the real work starts now."
"What do you mean?" Sally asked curiously, looking up at her husband.
Drake sighed and looked to the ceiling. He took a moment to collect his thoughts before he answered.
"Just, despite all I did today, I could see the fear just below the surface from most of the people I saw at church," he said, speaking slowly. "And there are people who will always set in their ways. Jacob's actions today prove that."
Sally frowned as she thought over her husband's words. She wouldn't deny Jacob had been a handful after that night a few months ago. He had gone on rant after rant trying to get the residents to believe him. However, no one believed him, as most thought of him as the black sheep of the family.
Still, she could also agree with Drake's other statement and mentally began preparing herself for the storm that would come.
"I just don't know what to do when the time gets rough," Drake said, uncertainty riddling his voice. "And it's scaring me."
"Ha, I think you're overthinking things," quipped a voice that sounded exactly like Drake's voice.
Drake groaned in annoyance and got up from the couch. He looked to the front door, and another Drake Blacklight came into the light.
"What are you doing here, Prime?" Drake groaned. "I thought your thing in my neck of the woods was done?"
Drake-Prime shrugged and headed into the kitchen. "It is. My reality jumper needs to recharge, and there is no better place to kick my feet up than a softer version of The Owl House universe. Say, do you make Goulash on Saturdays like I do? I have been dying for some."
Drake watched as his other self went into the kitchen like he owned the place. The florist leaned close to his wife and whispered into her ear.
"Do I really sound like that when I talk to people?"
"Yes!" Drake-Prime shouted, "And you have no idea how annoying that can get!"
Drake groaned as he looked in the direction of the kitchen. His wife heard him mutter something under his breath about Hpyer-developed Hearing.
"Not that, don't I mind you dropping by," Drake retorted, "But is there any other reason you're stopping⦠besides raiding my fridge."
"Not really," Drake-Prime replied, coming into the living with a bowl of pasta.
Drake growled and glared daggered at his counterpart. Since he was tired from everything that happened today, he wasn't in the mood to deal with his other self. Drake-Prime saw this and chuckled goodnaturedly.
"Relax, man, I'm just goofing with you," the other Blacklight joked, "You know I can't resist messing with my other selves."
Drake growled as his Prime counterpart walked up to him, and Drake-Prime turned serious. The reality-hoping Warrior put his bowl down and looked Drake in the eyes.
"Like I said before, I think you're overthinking things," Drake-Prime seriously spoke.
Drake sighed and retorted, "I guess you would know, dealing with magical problems weekly."
"That," Drake-Prime replied with a shrug, "And I'm also speaking for a moreā¦normal experience on this matter."
Drake-prime looked at the ceiling to collect his thoughts before he looked at married couples.
"Listen, you could worry yourself gray about all of the "what-ifs" about this entire deal, but remember this," Drake-Prime said seriously, "You're not alone. If there's one thing we Drake Blacklight do better than kick butt is knowing when it is time to call for help."
Drake-Prime looked at his other self's wife and offered her a smile that caused Sally to blush slightly. Drake felt a ping of jealousy go through him and reminded himself that a Sally-Prime was waiting back in Drake-Prime's universe.
"So, when you feel like you're back in a corner, never be afraid to call on others," Drake-Prime said reassuringly, "After, if it wasn't for my friends, I wouldn't be the powerful god-slayer I am together."
Drake thought over his counterpart's words and looked at his wife. He smiled at her, and she returned the smile. He looked at Drake-Prime, looking more at ease than he had all day, and he nodded.
Drake-Prime smiled at this. With his peace said, he grabbed his dinner and finished it. With a wave of his head, the bowl disappeared in a flash of black light, and proceeded to head to the door.
"Wait!" Drake called to his other self. I have a message from Lilith Clawthorne!"
Drake-Prime stopped and looked at Drake Curiously.
"Today, Lilith came to me, thinking I was you, and wanted to thank you for the advice you gave her during that time," Drake explained. "I cleared up the confusion and even explained things. Still, she said she wanted to thank a Drake Blacklight for all he did for her. So I figure I would tell you that."
"And when you see Lilith again, tell her what I told her that time," Drake replied kindly. "She did not need to thank me. I just wanted to help. It's as simple as that."
Drake-Prime then left before his other self could get another word in.
(G Corner)
So, I had planned to make another chapter before this one where Lilith and Drake Junior talked. I scrapped it because I figured I couldn't make it to the word count I used for this sub-series.
Up next, we see how the people of the demon realm are taking things.
