After a good talk with Brandon's uncle Dawn could share an apartment on the 5th floor that was currently empty, that's what family's for.
"Your uncle seems nice" she barely talked to him and mostly just listened the uncle and nephew talking about how shitty his father was and how it was just a matter of time until Brandon had accepted his uncle's offer to go live there with him, it wasn't the most heart-warming family reunion but just by the way he listened to them without any judgement it gave Dawn a feeling he was a good man.
"yeah, he's the only one of my dad's family that isn't a total sucker" he was also the only one who didn't look down on him.
They took the stairs to their designated apartment in the 5th floor, opened the door and after finding the switch they turned the lights on.
The place was a tiny, it was 20 square-foot and furnished, it had a bed in the corner, a window which lead to the fire-escape, a table, a sink, a minibar and there was a bathroom the other side.
"Okay, so we're going to live here?" She asked him just to be sure
"Yeah, at least until we can afford somewhere living somewhere else, I know it's basic but it beats sleeping in the streets" he told her as he put his big backpack on the small table in the middle of the room
"It's true" she told him, she didn't want him to think she was disappointed or anything, it had been a good while since they kissed and she "Thanks for letting me come along" she said as she walked closer to him and held his hand.
For her surprise he yanked his hand back and gave her judging look.
"Okay quit it" he looked away and walked towards the sink to check if it worked
"Quit what?" she asked him confused, what was the matter with him?
"Stop pretending you like me, I don't like it when you play with me like that" he said as he washed his hands with the pouring water
"What do mean?" she asked, a little scared of the answer
"Dawn, you think I forgot you fucking dumped me for some other guy and not even a week later you wanted me again as if nothing happened?!" he stomped on her direction to face her, he tried to ignore these thoughts but it's been nagging him the whole day
"I thought you were over it..." she squealed
"Well, I'm fucking not! You were leading me on for days, I told you things I haven't told anyone, did it mean anything for you?!" his words cut her like shards
"What about what you did to me?" she managed to reply
"What are you talking about?" he asked her, not caring much about what she meant
"For months you made my life a living hell, you insulted me, picked on me and threatened me and you think I just forgot it the moment you kissed me?!" she yelled back at him
"Well looked like it, you don't ever say what the fuck you're thinking!" he always hated how indifferent she could be with him
"Because you never want to listen!" She was feeling her eyes tearing up
"Okay, I didn't ask you to come with me in first place you invited yourself, if you're so fucking mad about the shit I did back then then why the fuck did crawl back to me?!" he yelled at her
"I don't know!" That said Dawn's eyes started to tear up behind her glasses and she ran to the bathroom and locked the door so she could have some time away from all that anger
Brandon walked angrily towards the bathroom and was about to knock the door and tell her to get out of there... until he heard her sobbing in there, which made him realize she was actually crying and it didn't sound like it was going to end soon. The realization of how much he hurt her hit him hard, any anger he had towards her was gone and he was filled with a mix of guilt, regret and pity. He thought about knocking the door again now to talk to her and apologize but he figured giving her a little break until she calm herself down was probably the best choice for now. So he went to the fire-escape by the window and sat on it's metal stairs so he could also take a little break and think about that emotional roller-coaster they just went through.
