I don't own Disney's The Owl House. I do, however own the Main OC. Hope you all enjoy my story on this lovely show.
Chapter Six
It's nighttime, the clouds were rolling in as a nearby storm was about to hit land. Danielle had helped King set up a bulletin board and carried some books to the living room. Eda was out and about doing something as they were busy. At one point, King had somehow gotten a sock stuck to his muzzle.
"Where are you now, ducky sock?" shouted King, tearing the sock off and stomping on it.
"So you're going to teach me about demon kind?" asked Danielle, lifting the cover of a book. "Will I be learning about your kind?"
"King is a Titan… Titan!"
"Yup," replied King, staring at Danielle. "Also, I am the King of Demons."
"That's a title," said Danielle, looking at King. "I'm talking about your race in general."
"Er… well… I haven't seen any others like me. Anyway, prepare yourself for..." said King, tearing a tarp off the bulletin board and donning a beret. "Demons 101. Demons like me are grim tricksters of the twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone."
"And cute little toe beans," said Danielle, playing with King's paws.
"And cute little toe beans. True," said King, before holding up a pen he borrowed from Danielle. "We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-aggressive comments. Sometimes."
"So, your sensitive," said Danielle, intently listening. "Nothing wrong with that."
"Even demons have inner demons," said King, before tearing off a picture to reveal another. "The most powerful demon of all is the Snaggleback. He's a…"
"Sounds like a storm is coming," said Danielle, hearing thunder before walking over to the door. "Yup, a good book will help me though this."
"Hey, wait," said King, seeing Danielle open the door and lean against the frame.
"Don't worry, I'm not going outside," said Danielle, seeing the rain start up and a flower wilt and die. "Wait… is the rain…"
"Boiling rain!" shouted Eda, running towards the Owl House. "Everybody inside now!"
"Don't have to tell me twice," said Danielle, watching Eda run in and closing the door.
"Phew! That was close," said Eda, before looking at Danielle. "But the important thing is you didn't get hurt."
"Almost thought that it was acid rain there," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "But what about Hooty?"
"I agree," shouted Hooty, opening the front door. "It can still hurt me."
"Alright alright," said Eda, conjuring a barrier over herself and walking back out.
"So, barriers are set in place when this happens?" asked Danielle, watching Eda cast a spell.
"Yup," said King, walking over before a stray rain droplet hit his muzzle. "Ow!"
"Here," said Danielle, taking a bandage out of her pocket and placing it on King's muzzle. "There we go."
"Look, now we're boo-boo buddies," said King, grabbing a bandage out of Danielle's pocket and placing it on her nose.
"Alright," said Danielle, giggling and tapping the end of King's nose. "Boo-boo buddies."
"Boo-boo buddies!" said King, wagging his tail.
"I love the rain and hearing the pitter patter against the house but…" said Danielle, standing back up and looking at Eda. "If this rain inflicts pain, best to nix it before it gets worse."
"Agreed," said Hooty, nodding his head.
"Yeah, we don't have weather," said Eda, still casting the spell. "We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows."
"It's like a rainbow but looking at it turns you inside out," said King, explaining what a painbow is.
"I'll stick with the rainbows back home," said Danielle, leaning against the doorframe.
"So, until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight," said Eda, staring at Danielle and King.
"Not a problem," said Danielle, looking at Eda.
"And if the rain doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will," said King, opening a book and showing the picture of the Snaggleback. "They wander the rain, feeding on boiled tourists."
"It better stay outside," said Danielle, staring at the picture. "I have a bat with its name written on it if it enters the house."
"Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made-up demons," said Eda, staring at King.
"Hoot! Well, hurry it up with that force field," said Hooty, staring at Eda. "That rain is getting closer to my precious stucco."
"Yeah, yeah. I got it," said Eda, finishing the spell and casting it around the house.
"Wow! I hope I can be as powerful as Eda one day," said Danielle, watching Eda walk back towards the house. "Hey, how'd you get the name the Owl Lady?"
"'Cause I'm so wise" said Eda, pointing at her head.
"'Cause she coughs up rat bones," said Hooty, looking at Danielle.
"I think it's 'cause she gets distracted by shiny objects," said King, staring at Eda and Danielle.
"No, I don't," said Eda, before King started clicking the pen, making it light up. "It sparkles and shimmers. It shines and delights. I must have it for my nest..."
"Whoa," said Danielle, helping Eda up. "You okay there?"
"Ugh," said Eda, tiredly. "That force field really took it out of me."
"Uh-oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up to ya?" said King, screaming as Eda pulls the beret over his eyes. "Darkness!"
"Come on King," said Danielle, picking King up and closing the front door. "Looks like I'll be getting two lessons tonight."
"But don't you wanna finish…" said King, staring at Danielle as he was put down.
"Don't worry, we can still have our lesson," said Danielle, petting the side of King's cheek and seeing Eda lay down on the couch and walking over. "We can still have our lesson, right?"
"I'm not teaching you magic tonight. I'm sleepy," said Eda, grabbing a blanket and covering up. "I'm a sleepy little owl."
"Then…" said Danielle, sitting on the floor and pulling out her cellphone. "You can do it from the couch. Just a quickie then back to King's lesson. I'll record it and look at it later."
"Okay, if you want a witch's staff like mine, don't make me repeat myself," said Eda, gasping as she wakes herself up. "Witch's staffs have power embedded into them."
"Sounds about right," said Danielle, scratching King's tummy.
"Yes," said King, enjoying the belly scratches. "This was part of our lesson. Petting a demon's tummy. Mine!"
"But before one is earned, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on their own. Now..." said Eda, creating a spell circle. "Tonight I will show you how to create... light."
"Beautiful," said Danielle, staring at the light spell.
"Now, humans think magic is made out of thin air, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something," said Eda, staring at Danielle. "Let me ask you, kid. Where do you think magic comes from?"
"The heart and imagination," replied Danielle, looking at Eda.
"Actually, you're right on the first part," said Eda, taking a scroll out of her hair and showing the picture. "It comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart."
"Huh…" said Danielle, staring at the picture. "What about imagination?"
"That is a good answer," replied Eda, yawning before pointing at her head. "Got to know what you want your magic to be."
"There it is," said Danielle, liking what she heard. "I look forward to imitating certain moves from animes and games I've watched and played."
"Now, everything depends on the spell circle," said Eda, making a big spell circle. "The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell."
"Wait, if you have a bile sac that produces your magic…" said Danielle, staring at Eda. "Then how am I suppose to do magic?"
"You know, I'm not actually sure," said Eda, wondering herself.
"Huh…?" said Danielle, staring at Eda.
"I know witches did magic differently in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how," said Eda, snorting before looking at Danielle. "Don't worry. You'll figure it out. Now, I need to lie down."
"Okay," said Danielle, seeing Eda fall asleep.
"Great, now to get back to our lesson," said King, staring at Danielle while wagging his tail.
"Yes, let's…" said Danielle, only to hear Eda snore loudly. "Get Eda up to her room. Wouldn't want her snores to interrupt our lesson."
"I see your point," said King, covering his ears.
Positioning Eda on her back, Danielle carries Eda up to her room with King beside her. Once in Eda's room, Danielle gently places Eda down and gestures King to follow her back downstairs. Back down in the living room, Danielle places certain books closer to the bulletin board but her cellphone dropped out of her pocket.
"Now, you see, the spell circle is really..." said Eda, on the recording.
"Sorry, King. I'll turn it off," said Danielle, looking at her cellphone before sighing. "Hey, King, do you think I'll ever be able to do magic?"
"Don't know," said King, before covering the cellphone with his notepad. "Hey, you know what's really cryptish? Let me tell you about the most spine-chilling demon. Smoochy-pie the Sweetie Baby! He's... Well, he's a lot more threatening than his name implies."
"I'd say," said Danielle, looking at the picture before sighing sadly.
"Why do you want to learn magic so bad, anyway?" asked King, staring at Danielle.
"Look I'm glad you're helping me learn about demons and such as that will help me search for my mom," said Danielle, sitting down and leaning against the couch. "But if there is something that requires magic down the road then I have to learn it."
"You really love your mom, don't you?" said King, sighing before looking at Danielle. "If I help you learn that spell, could we finish our lesson?"
"Of course," replied Danielle, before tapping King's nose. "Besides, one day you'll be learning magic and I can teach you much like you're teaching me."
"Oh you," said King, getting a kiss on his nose before drawing a picture. "Well, she said witches used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? And I have a theory. Every day I notice Eda sneaking drinks of this special elixir, see? Then she always gets a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers. And I know where to get some."
"A magic booster, probably," thought Danielle, looking at the picture.
"Let's go get some," said King, scurrying towards the hallway.
"Slow down," said Danielle, following King down the hallway. "The elixir is not going anywhere."
"Wait in the kitchen, please," said King, peeking from the stairwell.
"Okay," said Danielle, heading toward the kitchen and sitting at the table. "Wonder if I can learn to make this elixir."
"If you do, make sure to make plenty. Someone else besides Eda will need it."
"Who?" asked Danielle, listening to the voice.
"Well… at least you'll be saving money."
"Not getting an answer out of you, am I?" said Danielle, before seeing King return with the elixir.
"Got it," said King, handing the elixir over to Danielle.
"So, this is it," said Danielle, staring at the elixir before a loud thunderclap goes off and the lights go out. "Doesn't Hooty control the house lights? Why'd they go off?"
"Hoot! Hoot!" shouted Hooty, from the living room.
"Don't get rid of the elixir, you're going to need it."
"Hooty!" shouted Danielle, pocketing the elixir and running towards the living room with King. "What is that?"
"I don't know," replied King, staring at the growling beast before them as it leaves deep scratch marks on Hooty before it flees. "I don't recognize it."
"Hooty! Oh, these look bad," said Danielle, touching the scratch marks. "Whatever demon that was, escaped into the rain. Are there demons that are immune to boiling rain?"
"No," replied King, staring up at Danielle. "Oh, my gosh. The Snaggleback! It feeds during the rains. It must have stumbled across our house and seen us inside."
"This has become a nightmare," said Danielle, hearing the beast howl before going outside and seeing it jump though an upper floor window. "Why do you look so happy?"
"Because this could be a lesson," replied King, staring at Danielle. "This would be a great way for you to see a wild demon up close and personal."
"Right then," said Danielle, inhaling deeply before staring at King. "But we're not going in unprepared. Armor up, King. We're going to save Eda."
Slowly creeping back into the Owl House, Danielle and King search a nearby closet. Grabbing some pillows, Danielle duck tapes them around King before King helps her with hers. Grabbing a bat that was in the closet as well, Danielle finds some purple lipstick and puts some under her eyes and King's as well. Heading on up, Danielle and King enter Eda's room and sees it's in disarray with Eda missing.
"Eda!" said Danielle, running over to Eda's nest and grabbing one of the pillows. "Slash marks! It got Eda. King! You're the demon expert. I need your help."
"I'll go get my demon book," said King, about to leave only for Danielle to grab his arm. "Weh?"
"You're not going out there by yourself," said Danielle, looking at King. "I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you got hurt or eaten."
"Okay," said King, looking at Danielle.
Leaving Eda's room, Danielle and King venture down the hallway. At one point, Danielle stepped on a slip of paper without noticing it. Hearing rustling in a nearby storage closet, Danielle kicks it open and brandishes her bat. A squeal was heard behind some jackets which Danielle slowly parts with her bat.
"Snaggleback?" said King, recognizing the demon. "Wow. You are a lot shorter in person."
"Wait… Snaggleback is too small to have taken Eda," thought Danielle, looking at Snaggleback before realization dawned on her. "Oh no, it's something entirely different."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," said Snaggleback, stammering. "I-I just needed a place to hide from the rains."
"Then why did you break down our door and take…" said King, only for Danielle to bend down and touch his shoulder.
"It wasn't Snaggleback here," said Danielle, looking at King. "It's something else."
"Then what…" said King, only to hear a crash and a shadowy hand to grab Snaggleback from the ceiling.
"Oh, no! A twist!" shouted Snaggleback, being pulled towards the ceiling.
"Snaggleback!" shouted Danielle, grabbing Snaggleback's hands and pulling him free. "I got'cha!"
"Thank you!" shouted Snaggleback, nuzzling into Danielle.
"Oh, my," said King, seeing the door open and the beast growling outside it. "Stay back. Hey, hey. I am the king of demons, okay? And as such, I demand…"
"I don't think it cares," said Danielle, throwing an exploding potion at the beast then hightailing it out of the storage closet with King and Snaggleback.
"Aaah!" shouted Snaggleback, being grabbed by the beast.
"Snaggleback!" shouted Danielle, grabbing Snaggleback's hands again. "Let him go!"
"Thanks… but I don't think it's going to let go this time," said Snaggleback, looking at Danielle.
"No," said Danielle, looking at Snaggleback while King clung to her leg. "No one gets left behind!"
"Good bye," said Snaggleback, letting go of Danielle's hands and being taken away down the hall.
"Noo!" shouted Danielle, tears in her eyes before picking King up and heading on back to Eda's room.
"Danielle," said King, staring at an upset Danielle before spotting a piece of paper on her foot. "Hey, what's thing?"
"What's what?" asked Danielle, seeing King grab the piece of paper off her foot.
""Keeps the curse at bay"," said King, reading the piece of paper before gasping and taking a piece of paper out from his collar. ""An elixir a day, keeps the curse at bay.""
"Curse?" said Danielle, staring at King then the piece of paper. "What curse?"
"You're about to see why Eda is called the Owl Lady."
"Wait… what?" said Danielle, wondering what the voice meant.
"That creature is..." said King, only for the beast's hand to bust though the bedroom door before busting in itself.
"Eda?" shouted Danielle, recognizing the face on the beast as it stares at them.
Eda snarls and stalks closer, raising a claw to swipe at them. Danielle screams and braces herself. Her phone falls out of her pocket which causes the camera to go off when it hits the floor. The flash blinds Eda, making her scream. Danielle takes the distraction to grab King and hide on the balcony. Eda screams, and it echoes loudly. She stalks the room, sniffing. Danielle has her hands over her mouth while King has his on his head. Eda seems to smell them, growling and sniffing closer to them. Danielle grabs a nearby can and throws it. Eda growls at the sound and chases it.
"Oh, man," said Danielle, staring above the balcony then looking at King. "Has this happened before?"
"Yes, but she always keeps it in control. The elixir I gave you doesn't give Eda powers. It prevents her from turning into that thing," replied King, pointing in the direction Eda went while looking at Danielle. "She's turned into a nightmare and it's all my fault. I'm so sorry, Danielle. I-I just wanted our lesson to continue and I forgot that Eda turns into such a creature. I don't have many friends, and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you, finally someone would care about creatures like me."
"Well, let's continue our lesson," said Danielle, holding out her pen. "Eda's turned into some kind of demon, and we need to save her. So, who knows more about demons than the best teacher in the world?"
"Thanks Danielle," said King, grabbing the pen then hugging Danielle before grabbing some leaves on drawing on them. "Let's see. She was bigger, covered in feathers, and had giant black eyes. Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light."
"Well, her beast form looks owl-ish," said Danielle, listening to King. "That does make sense."
"That's it. Light!" said King, pointing at Danielle's cellphone. "Danielle, use your human wonder rectangle."
"Yeah, sorry King," said Danielle, showing her cellphone to King which had cracks on the screen. "My cell got busted."
"Then... what about that light spell?" asked King, thinking back to the spell.
"King, you saw me. I keep drawing the spell circles and nothing happens," replied Danielle, starting up the recording on her cellphone. "I won't be able to do magic like Eda."
"...spell circle is really key..." said Eda, on the recording before it glitched.
"The constellation…" said Danielle, looking at the pattern within the spell circle. "King, look, just like that night."
"The constellation?" said King, trying to peer at Danielle's cellphone. "Really?"
"Here we go," said Danielle, grabbing a leave and drawing the pattern before tapping it and producing a small floating sphere of light. "No way. I did magic… I did magic!"
"We're not going to stop anything with something that small," said King, before hearing distant screeching and cowering in Danielle's arms." What do we do now?"
"The bigger the spell circle, the bigger the spell," said Danielle, remembering Eda's lesson. "I'm not going to like this part but we're going to have to part for a bit."
"I'm listening," said King, staring at Danielle.
After telling King how the plan will go, Danielle and King quietly leave Eda's room. Stopping at his room for a split second, King grabs a crayon and gives it to Danielle while she gives him her pen. Coming upon the end of a certain hall, Danielle starts drawing the pattern on the wall before nodding to King to start his part. Quietly leaving Danielle to her work, King heads towards the living and spots Eda sniffing a book.
"Oh, what lovely thing do we have here? It's just so dang shiny," said King, clicking the pen and gaining Eda's attention. "Oh, my. Oh, dear."
Eda stares at the pen's light, cooing. She screeches and lunges for it. King runs as Eda follows him. King ducks down a hallway as Eda slides on a pile of books and papers before crashing into a wall, and gasps when Danielle tosses a blanket over her head. Danielle finishes drawing the pattern on the wall before slapping it to activate. Blinding light is produced making Eda scream. Seeing Eda transform back with very little of the beast still out, Danielle places Eda on her back and heads back upstairs. King meanwhile, goes to the kitchen and grabs a very long straw before heading back up to Eda's room. Seeing Danielle pouring some of the elixir into Eda's mouth, King hands over the straw. Placing the straw in the elixir and placing it in Eda's mouth while leaving the elixir on the floor, Danielle takes out a notepad and starts drawing the pattern over and over, activating each one and leaving the room covered in small floating spheres of light. Eda wakes up not long later, gasping before drinking more of the elixir and the rest of the beast parts vanishing.
"W-What happened? Oh, I have the worst headache. And my mouth tastes like roadkill," said Eda, gagging and regurgitating a giant owl pellet which breaks revealing Snaggleback.
"I'm just gonna... lie here for a minute," said Snaggleback, not wanting to move after what happened to him.
"Hmm? I was looking for that," said Eda, grabbing the elixir on the floor.
"Actually, we used the one we took," said King, walking over to Eda.
"King? King! You stole my elixir?" said Eda, pointing at King. "I ought to break every bone in your…"
"Shh!" said King, whispering while pointing towards Danielle. "Over there."
"Wow," said Eda, seeing the many floating spheres of light around Danielle as she activates another one. "How is she doing that?"
"I don't know, but she did it all on her own," said King, staring at the lights then Eda. "Hey, I, uh, kind of messed a bunch of things up back there. And I just wanted to say I'm sorry."
"Well, you better be. I got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it. But it's not entirely your fault," said Eda, as Danielle walks over with a sphere of light in her hand and showing Eda. "I haven't been completely honest with you guys. When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all I know is that if I don't take my elixir... Well, that's why people call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable."
"Well, if it's been placed on you, there should be a way to remove it," said Danielle, sitting down on the nest. "But if it's been with you for a long time, it may be too entwined with your being and removing it could cause your death."
"Huh… never thought of that," said Eda, staring at Danielle. "Well, it's all under control, and as long as no one steals my elixir… King… then I'm fine. But, hey, look at this. A human doing magic. Good on you, kid."
"I even figured out a variant already," said Danielle, showing the original than the variant. "I placed an outer circle around it."
"Wow," said King, looking at the pattern. "Already?"
"Yup," replied Danielle, petting King. "I have a great teacher. Heck, you two can learn it too. As a backup, in case something happens where you can't use magic or a start to learning magic."
"Yes!" said King, excited. "My first step to becoming all powerful again."
"You make a good point there," said Eda, tapping the pattern and activating it. "It has its uses."
"Hey, hey! Is anyone there?" shouted Hooty, gaining everyone's attention after regaining consciousness. "Hello? Hoot? I'm on the floor. It's cold!"
"That voice," said King, annoyed and walking towards the door. "That horrific voice!"
"We'll take care of Hooty. Get some rest Eda, you definitely deserve it," said Danielle, before picking up Snaggleback and leaving the room. "Come on, Snaggleback. Let's get you tended to."
Walking on down to the living room, Danielle places Snaggleback on the floor before tending to Hooty. Lifting the front door up, Danielle takes her time to align the front door right before hearing clicking noises. Looking at the hinges, Danielle sees that Hooty had clicked them back into place. Tired, Danielle places a few bandages on the scratch marks before petting Hooty's head.
"Looks like you're a part of the boo-boo buddy club now, Hooty," said Danielle, yawning.
"Finally, I get to be a part of something," said Hooty, being a little too loud as Danielle covers her one ear. "Sorry."
"It's okay," said Danielle, walking over to King and Snaggleback.
"And then she had teeth in her stomach. Teeth in her stomach!" said Snaggleback, staring at King. "Can you believe that?"
"Oh, yeah," said King, drawing what Snaggleback described. "This will make a great addition to my demon book."
"That book is filled with so many interesting things," said Snaggleback, grabbing a book. "Like this. I'm one of the strongest demons on the Boiling Isles, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna have to edit that," said King, staring at the book.
"Oh," said Snaggleback, looking down.
"Alright you two. It's been a long night for us," said Danielle, gesturing King and Snaggleback to follow. "Let's head to bed. Snaggleback, you can stay the night after what happened."
"Really, thank you," said Snaggleback, staring at Danielle. "You're too kind."
Owl Pellet #3
Before heading off to bed, Danielle had taken King and Snaggleback to the bathroom. Starting up a bath, Danielle places King and Snaggleback in the tub before beginning to wash them up.
"Danielle, why do I need a bath?" asked King, staring at Danielle. "I took one at the beginning of the week."
"To relax and relieve what we just went though. Also, to calm me down while I do this," replied Danielle, scrubbing King. "I'll be taking one after you guys."
"Okay, I guess I understand," said King, before pointing at Snaggleback. "But why do I have to share a bath with Snaggleback?"
"Hehehe," giggled Snaggleback, staring at King.
Owl Pellet #4
In some unknown location, in another realm, a being similar in appearance to King but older, watches a cube depicting Danielle in her room with King and Snaggleback heading to bed.
"I wonder if it was a good idea to let that Half Human child see my glyphs," said the Being, watching Danielle hold up her blanket and letting King snuggle up against her while Snaggleback preferred the end of the futon. "Well, my son seems to like her but if she starts showing signs of her other lineage and starts hurting my son, I'll stop showing her my glyphs. At least she shows more maturity than someone I know."
"Hey, I heard that," shouted a Child-like Entity nearby, hearing the Being from their area of the realm. "I can be mature. Wait… who are you talking about?"
