And from that day on, Gwen began to become a hero in her own right.
Her unwavering commitment to fighting crime has led her to confront and defeat numerous criminals, even as she strives to unravel the mysteries surrounding the sudden appearance of these new metahumans. With the guidance of Peter, she has honed her abilities to perfection, and now uses them to aid those who are in dire need of assistance. Despite the demands of her crime-fighting duties, she somehow manages to keep up with her passion for drumming and continues to rock out with her band.
Currently, Gwen was swinging through the city, making her way to school. She effortlessly shot webs and swung around, savoring the feeling of freedom in the open air. She then landed on the roof of the school and tossed her bag in the air. As she effortlessly removed her suit, revealing her normal clothes underneath, she then stood back up. She then caught her bag and stuffed her suit inside. Sighing to try and shake the adrenaline from her system, Gwen opened the door to her school and made her way to her locker.
As she walked down the hallway, Peter had already arrived at his locker. He eagerly pulled out his phone and began to scroll through the pictures he had snapped of Spider-Woman earlier. He studied each photo intently, admiring how he had managed to capture her in action. However, as he was lost in thought, a group of jocks began to play catch in the hallway. One of them noticed Peter's distraction and decided to have some fun by tossing the ball in his direction.
They backed up and pushed Peter into his locker, smacking the glasses off of his face in the process, causing them to crack when they hit the ground. Gwen watched it happen from down the crowded hall, filled with rage as she watched them mess with her friend. She pushed through the crowd and even used a little of her super strength in the process. She made her way over to the jock and pushed him against the lockers across the hall.
"Touch him again, Flash!" Gwen dared the bully.
Peter sighed as he picked up his broken glasses. "Gwen, it's okay. It was just an accident."
"My fist against his jaw - that'll be the accident if he does it again," Gwen dared Flash, who only smirked.
"Geez, Stacy. Sorry to have hurt your boyfriend," Flash said without any remorse before walking away, only infuriating Gwen even more. "She could do a lot better."
Gwen squeezed her fist and was ready to punch him with all her strength. But if she did, she would easily kill him. Not that it wasn't a tempting decision, but she knew she needed to use these powers responsibly. And hurting some bully because he hurt her friend wouldn't be worth it.
"Hey." Peter grabbed her clutched hand and softly caressed her hand. Seemed to work to help relieve some of the tension in her hand. "Are you okay?"
Gwen sighed as she began to calm down. One thing that she had to say about Peter is that she wondered if he had powers. With how easy he could calm her down when she's fuming with anger.
"I'm fine," Gwen assured him. She sighed and began to walk down the halls with Peter to their class. "So, did you hear the latest news?"
"Norman Osborn was found?" Peter took a guess. "Yeah, learned it the other night when working with Dr. Connors."
"You gonna go to his press conference?" Gwen wondered.
"I was a little curious about what happened to him," Peter admitted. "Reports say he escaped from terrorists by himself. I kinda wanna know how."
"Gotta say, I'm wondering the same. I am going too, so I guess I will see you there." Gwen muttered and looked over to a Homecoming poster. "So, Homecoming is this weekend."
"Yeah, trust me, it seems all the guys talk about is who they are bringing," Peter tells her.
"You wanna maybe go by together?" Gwen asked, noticing the look in Peter's eyes and becoming worried. "Oh, I mean like as friends. You know, like together but separately."
"Yeah, that's what I thought you meant," Peter assured with a smile. "I'll meet you outside after school."
"Sounds like a plan," Gwen said with a grin.
After school, Peter and Gwen met up as they planned and made their way to the OsCorp rally. When they made it, they saw dozens of people there and a few dozen other reporters. They wandered around for a moment as they were wondering how long it was going to be.
It didn't take long until Norman Osborn was brought out with a few security men leading him to the microphone. When he reached it, Norman looked a lot shaken up and even shaved instead of having his crazy curly hair.
"I'd like to stare this off with...I used to be proud of what I've done here at OsCorp. It's been a weapon manufacturer at heart, despite the many advancements, weapons have been a huge part of the company's success." He then sighed as he remembered what happened to him. "But then I saw young soldiers slaughtered. Men and women alike. Killed by the very weapons I swore would protect them. Some of those killed were my wife and son."
Gwen had to say that she didn't hear any of that in the news and was sorry for Norman. Before the abduction, he was a sleepy scandal who would do anything for a deal and get OsCorp richer. Now it was like she was looking at a whole new person.
"I...had become part of a system that had no regard to the safety or accountability," Norman tells the crows. "I had my eyes opened by this experience. That is why I am deciding that, effective immediately, I'm shutting down the weapons division of OsCorp. Until such a time I can decide what direction the company will take."
Before anyone could bombard him with questions, Norman was led away by his security team. As he was being led away, someone walked up and showed him his phone.
"Sir, you've got a call." He reported to Norman.
Norman was confused about what exactly this could be about and took the call. "Hello?"
"You think that small speech is going to be enough to wash away all the evil that you've done?" An eerie voice questioned on the other end.
"Who is this?" Norman asks. "What is it you want?"
"To watch you suffer."
Before Norman could ask any further questions, the call hung up and he was filled with concern. He looked around and gestured for his men to follow as he walked off toward a dead-end hallway. When Norman reached the end, he placed his palm on the wall and activated a secret compartment.
Gwen sensed something was going on and wondered what it was. She watched as dozens of devices around the Gwen grabbed Peter and they both managed to escape just before a sudden bomb went off, causing a portion of the building to explode. The crowd ran in panic. When Peter scrambled to realize what was going on, he noticed that Gwen seemed to have vanished into thin air.
"Gwen?" Peter called out, searching for his friend amongst the crowd. "Gwen!"
As Peter was searching, he missed that a chunk of a pedestal was toppling and about to crush him. Lucky for Peter, Gwen came swinging in and tackled Peter to the ground in order to save him. She and he went rolling as the pedestal crashed into the ground. When Gwen stopped rolling, she ended up on top of Peter and was a little blushed under the mask.
Gwen knew she needed to keep her identity secret and tried to disguise her voice. "You alright, kid?"
Peter looked up at her in shock and amazement. "Uh, yeah." Then he looked around in worry. "But Gwen."
"Your friend is fine." Gwen tried to get Peter to leave so she could ensure his safety. She would never be able to entrust herself to protect everyone if she knew he was in the line of fire. "She-I... Captain Stacy's daughter is safe. I got her out already." She knew that was believable that someone could know her through her father and not personally. "But I need you to get out of here."
"O-okay," Peter said as he ran to grab his glasses, making Gwen realize he wouldn't recognize her since he couldn't even see. He reached for his glasses only for someone to step on them. "No!"
Gwen groaned and knew that things were just getting worse for her friend. "Look, they're just glasses." She moved him toward the exit. "Your life is more valuable! Go!"
Peter didn't argue as he tried to make his way without his eyesight. Gwen was relieved that he could at least see partially. The glasses helped him see farther away if anything; he could see closer up and that's all he really needs to do. Follow the crowd and he will likely find the exit. Gwen was relieved her friend was safe and raced to help the others. When she saw another pedestal beginning to fall, she leaped and ran on it while using a web to stabilize it.
"Get out of here! Evacuate the building!" Gwen called out to the crowd. "What did this?"
Gwen's senses then went off yet again, causing her to look around in confusion. That was when the ceiling exploded, causing Gwen to shriek and use her arms to cover her head from the shattering glass. Looking up, she noticed something she never expected to see. A man with giant mechanical wings and a beak-like mask. Adrian Toomes, AKA the Vulture from the main timeline, has made his reappearance in this new world.
Adrian's appearance is typical of someone in their advanced years: bald and wrinkled skin. He is always seen wearing his winged suit, which is primarily black and light green with silver trim. The wings on the suit are retractable and are wider than a man's height when fully extended.
"Welcome, Spider-Woman. I was hoping we would meet." Toomes tells her.
Gwen was a little confused when she saw the man and just crawled up to her feet in confusion. "Uh...and you are...?"
"I am the Vulture!" Adrian introduces himself, his wings beginning to glow. "The pinnacle of man's creation! You were not my target, but you will do!"
Gwen quickly realized what was going to happen and jumped out of the way when sharp-knife like feathers were shot off the wings. "Okay, this is seriously not how I was expecting this day to go!"
Gwen ran as he shot a web up to get herself off of the ground and leaped over one of the feathers before she kicked Vulture in the face. When she did, she grabbed ahold of him and spun around on his wings as Feathers went flying everywhere.
"Okay, if I wasn't your target, then who was?" Gwen asked as she clung to his pack. "Also, where do you get stuff like this?"
"I'm here to kill Norman Osborn for what he's done to me!" Adrian stated as he tried to crash her off of her.
Adrian flew around as he smashed into the walls, dragging Gwen along as he tried to ditch her. Gwen managed to hold on as she tried punching his pack to break it, only to end up hurting her hand.
"Gah! What is this thing made out of?" Gwen asks in shock. "Okay, look, Norman is not the best guy, but that's no excuse to get innocent people killed in a personal dilemma."
The Vulture suddenly stopped, causing Gwen to fly as she was only holding on with one hand. When she smashed into the ground, she groaned and crawled up to her feet while rubbing her shoulder. As the vulture came in, ready to strike, a sudden blast of sorts came in and a whirring sound was heard. When it hit the Vulture, he was sent flying backwards, and Gwen watched as someone came flying in and landed in front of her. What she saw was someone wearing some sort of super advanced armor.
This armor resembles Iron Man's armor from the main timeline, except it has the colors of blue, red, and white, similar to Captain America's suit with a star on the chest. His armor is primarily blue, but his arms and stomach have a silver color with a red stripe, while his forearms are silver with red stripes, his gloves are also red, there are silver spots at the knees and red stripes at the shins.
Gwen was shocked when she saw him and was confused. "I'm sorry, who are you?"
"That's classified." The voice said, which Gwen recognized instantly.
"Norman Osborn?" Gwen asks.
"Damnit," Norman said when he realized his voice was the same. He then messed around with a screen on his gauntlet. "I didn't get that voice modulator working."
"What are you doing?" Gwen asks and gestures to the suit. "What is all of this?"
"This is my new life's work. How I escaped those terrorists." Norman proclaimed as he stood tall and showed off the armor. "This is the Iron Patriot!"
Gwen placed her fist against her left hip and wasn't impressed. "Iron Patriot?" She scoffed. "Now that's not gloating your patriarchy or anything." She then refocused and turned to the approaching Vulture as he climbed back up. "Well, if you don't mind, there's a giant bird who's wings I have to cook. So, if you don't mind..."
Norman however stopped her from going further. "That's alright, kid." He stated as Vulture stood up, preparing to strike. "I'll be taking it from here."
Gwen was a little offended by that but then took a step back. "Okay, knock yourself out."
Norman picked up on her tone and was lost. "W-why are you saying it like that?"
Out of nowhere, Vulture came flying and rammed into Norman, sending the two flying into the air. Norman cried in pain as he activated his thrusters and got out of Vulture's hood. He then used the repulser to shoot his jetpack, not damaging it.
"You're not funny!" Norman cried to Gwen as she was webbing the debris.
"I don't know, I found it funny," Gwen said as she webbed onto his foot.
Gwen yanked herself into the air where she used the momentum to fly higher into the air. Norman was sending repulser after repulser to try and shoot Toomes down.
"I recognize this handiwork anywhere," Norman said as he flew and grabbed onto Vulture by the neck. "Adrian Toomes!"
"Ah, you recognize me, Osborn?" Toomes asks as he flies upward. "And I'm not Toomes anymore. I'm what you called me. The Vulture!"
"What?" Norman asked as he punched Toomes in his face mask. "First of all, Adrian, I called you a buzzard."
"What?" Adrian was shocked to hear.
"You can't even get an insult right." Norman scoffed.
"Hey, how about trying to not piss off the guy who has bombs that can blow this place sky-high?" Gwen asks him.
"Toomes, you must stop this!" Norman stated as they crashed through the ceiling, sending glass everywhere. "What will any of this accomplish?"
"A means to an end, Osborn," Adrian stated as he punched Norman. "I am not out to accomplish anything! I am out for vengeance for you firing me!"
Then suddenly, a helicopter appeared in the sky and began circling them. "Return to the ground now!"
"Get out of here!" Norman cried as he flew around and grabbed Vulture in a headlock.
The man in the helicopter stated, "We have you surrounded!"
"But I'm a good guy!" Norman exclaimed as he attempted to stop the Vulture.
The pilot replied, "You don't look like a good guy."
"You're just gonna have to shut up and trust me," Norman said. And just then, Vulture used his metal feathers and shot them off, some of them hitting the propeller of the chopper. "No!"
Gwen managed to get hit by one of the feathers and ended up falling and smashing into the ground. She groaned when she realized that she was surrounded by people who were all in the pathway of the now-crashing helicopter. Gwen saw she needed to act quickly, but also needed to come up with a plan. She took a deep breath and let time practically freeze with the help of her enhanced senses. She needed to protect the people, rescue the pilots, and stop the helicopter before it crashed into them. She took a deep breath, felt her heartbeat faster, and tried to get herself into a rhythm. Something Peter had said she did as she tried to focus on something and began imagining drumming.
Then, Gwen leaped into action, using her webs and leaping from side to side, creating a massive web to catch the falling helicopter and protect the people below from being crushed. As that happened, Gwen leaped and used the net to shoot herself into the air and reach the chopper. When she reached the crashing vehicle, she shot out a web and grabbed the door, then yanked it free. Once she did that, she leaped inside, grabbed both of the pilots, and then shot a web to connect them to a small piece of building jutting out of the wall.
Gwen then proceeded to use that momentum to fling herself upward, trying her best to avoid the spinning blades as she webbed them together. She then used her webs to attempt to stop the helicopter's descent with all her might. As she proceeded to do so, the helicopter slowly came to a stop right in front of an officer who had arrived on the scene.
Gwen let out a deep breath of relief as she looked up and witnessed Toomes hurtling towards the ground, with Norman fiercely propelling him downwards. The impact was brutal, and Toomes appeared to be grievously injured upon hitting the ground. As Norman stood over him, ready to deliver another punishing blow, Gwen watched on, her heart racing with fear and anticipation.
Norman then punched him in the face before marching off. Gwen watched the interaction and wondered what all of that was about. But seeing Norman fly away before she could even ask, Gwen decided to run and try and find Peter.
Peter was standing outside the entrance of the building, his eyes scanning the area nervously as he waited for the paramedics to finish examining him. He had been pushed around quite a bit and his small frame was not equipped to handle such physical confrontations. As a result, his body was now covered in bruises and he felt weak and vulnerable. The events of the day had left him feeling powerless and frustrated. He couldn't help but compare himself to Gwen, who was always so confident and assertive. He wished he could be more like her, capable of standing up for himself and going after what she wanted without fear.
"Peter!" Gwen cried as she ran and saw her friend. "Are you okay?"
Peter smiled when he saw how worried his friend was about her. "Yeah, I am fine. I just got a little bruised on my escape. What happened to you?"
"I-I lost you in the explosion." Gwen tried to make a believable lie. "Want me to walk you home?"
"Yeah, sure," Peter said as he showed her that his phone was trampled on. "I am going to assume my folks are worried."
"Pete!" Gwen heard Barry, Peter's older brother, arrive on the scene, almost like he came out of nowhere. He ran over to his brother and sighed. "You okay? What happened?"
"Thanksgiving came early and came with a vengeance." Peter quipped with a smile.
"Wow, you look like you have been having a rough day," Barry commented. He then pats his brother on the back. "You all done here?"
"We gave him a once over, he is good to go." The paramedics assured him.
"Alright, come on, I will take you home," Barry said as he strolled off, leaving Gwen. "Thanks, Gwen."
"No problem," Gwen said with a smile. She was sorry for Peter and wished she could tell him who she was, but he was too vulnerable. And she was worried he would hate her for never helping him fight off the bullies. "See you at homecoming, Pete."
"Homecoming?" Barry asks. "You've got a date, huh?"
"Were just friends." Peter told his brother. "How'd you get here so fast?"
"Oh, i...just happened to be close by." Barry quickly came up with a good excuse.
Gwen stood on the edge of a rooftop, dressed in her Spider-Woman attire, as she watched over her neighborhood. She saw Peter and Barry arrive home. She felt sorry for her friend, who just wanted to have a normal day but ended up getting dragged into a fight with a new enemy. She also needed to figure out who financed Adrian's wings; something Norman seemed to ignore.
"I'm so sorry, Peter," Gwen said in sorrow. Then she felt her senses alert her to danger, as the sound of sirens filled the air in the distance. "And here I go again."
Gwen shot out a web and swung away, leaving her friend behind in his room. Meanwhile, Peter was currently looking through the notes Connors had given him on how they could amplify the formula to work faster and more efficiently. However, as he was sketching some formulas, Peter began to sketch some new ones. These formulas were for more personal reasons that could potentially make him stronger, better, faster, and a whole lot more.
But he couldn't have possibly known where this was going to lead.
