Training
(Two Weeks Later)
It was Saturday morning in Lincoln's dorm room in Naranja Academy. He was sitting on his bed, putting a shoe on; after that, he went to the kitchen area and pulled a frying pan out of a cupboard; he puts it on the hot plate and turns it on. He then opens a bottom cupboard and pulls out a bag of Pokemon food, then pours some of it into two food bowls that were sitting on the floor.
"Sprigatito, Pawmi; food's on." said Lincoln. Sprigatito and Pawmi hop off Lincoln's bed and run to their food bowls. As they ate, Lincoln opens the small fridge door and pulls out a couple of eggs. As he cracks them and drops their contents onto the frying pan, he sees you.
"Oh, good morning, you guys." said Lincoln. "Man, the past two weeks here in Naranja Academy have been amazing. I've learned a lot about Pokemon here; such as the many types of Pokemon there are, abilities, type advantages, evolutions, and all sorts of stuff. It's funny how life changes for you; one minute I'm wandering the streets of Royal Woods in my pajamas after my family kicked me out over some dumb superstition; the next thing I know, I'm in a new land with amazing creatures, and living in a dorm room that's way bigger and better than my old bedroom in an awesome academy; must be one of those dark cloud, silver lining sort of things. Also, Mr Clavell exchanged my American currency for pokedollars, twenty-five thousand pokedollars to be exact."
After Lincoln and his Pokemon have breakfast and Lincoln brushes his teeth, he grabs his backpack, and they exit their room and start walking down the hallway.
"Oyee, Lincoln!" Nemona's voice calls out. Lincoln looks behind him to see her running over to them.
"Morning, Nemona." said Lincoln.
"How was your Ghost Pokemon Club outing last night?" asked Nemona as she and Lincoln walked down the hall together with Sprigatito and Pawmi following after them.
"Saw a bunch of Gastlies over by those ruins in South Province Area One." said Lincoln.
"I wonder what those ruins used to be?" asked Nemona.
"No idea." said Lincoln.
"Did you see that weird lid chained to the side of a cliff wall near them?" asked Nemona.
"The one with the glowing purple symbols?" replied Lincoln.
"Yeah, that thing." said Nemona.
"Yeah, I saw it." replied Lincoln. "I wonder what that is."
"Who knows?" replied Nemona. "So, what are you up to today?"
"I think I'm going to start training my Sprigatito and Pawmi." said Lincoln.
"Really?" asked Nemona.
"Yeah, I feel like I know enough to do well." said Lincoln. "Are there any good places near here where trainers just starting out can get some experience?"
"There's a place near my house called Poco Path." said Nemona.
"Thanks." said Lincoln.
During Lincoln's first weekend at the academy, Nemona helped Lincoln learn the basics of Pokemon to prepare him for his classes. The two became good friends during that time. The two soon exited the academy and went into the city to buy some stuff at the Delibird Presents store there. Lincoln bought twenty pokeballs for himself, along with a Miracle Seed for his Sprigatito.
"Ready to begin training your Pokemon?" asked Nemona.
"You bet I am!" said Lincoln.
"That's good to hear." said Nemona. The two exit Mesagoza through the south gate and make their way to Poco Path. As they make their way through South Province Area One, Lincoln thinks about his friends back in Royal Woods and wonders how they're doing. He even thinks about his family sometimes, even after what they did to him, and wonder how they're doing also.
'Maybe I should try calling them soon; just to see how they are.' Lincoln thinks to himself.
"What's on your mind, Lincoln?" asked Nemona when she sees Lincoln lost in thought.
"Just thinking about people back in America." said Lincoln.
"Your friends and family?" asked Nemona.
"Yeah." said Lincoln.
"Maybe after training you can give them a call." said Nemona. "You have some long-distance minutes on your Rotom Phone."
"Good idea." said Nemona. They soon reach Poco Path and Lincoln gets started.
(Ten Minutes Later)
"Pawmi, use Thunder Shock!" said Lincoln. Pawmi releases a jolt of electricity at a small, gray, birdlike Pokemon with a red head (Fletchling), hitting it, and doing super effective damage. Lincoln sees that the Fletchling was struggling to get up and decides that it would be a good time to catch it. He takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Fletchling, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" cheers Nemona. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and looks up his new Fletchling's information on it.
"This says my Fletchling is a girl, she knows Peck, and Growl; she has the Big Pecks ability which keeps her defense from being lowered." said Lincoln. Fletchling's pokeball suddenly teleports to Lincoln's Pokemon Storage. Before Lincoln caught Fletchling, he caught a green spiderlike Pokemon that was in a ball of thread (Tarountula), a pink Pokemon with two leaf fronds coming out of its head (Hoppip), a dark gray, bug Pokemon (Scatterbug), and a blackish gray, piglike Pokemon (Lechonk).
Also, while training his Sprigatito and Pawmi; Sprigatito learned Bite and Hone Claws, and Pawmi learned Quick Attack and Charge. He also decides to train the Pokemon he recently caught, just to get some more training experience. His Tarountula, that already knew Tackle and String Shot, learned Struggle Bug and Assurance; his Hoppip, that already knew Splash, Tackle, and Tail Whip; learned Absorb and Fairy Wind; his Scatterbug, that already knew Tackle and String Shot, learned Stun Spore; and his Lechonk, that already knew Tackle and Tail Whip; learned Disarming Voice, and Echoed Voice.
Also, he picks up the random things that he picks up from Pokemon that his defeat in battle, after Nemona points out that they can be used to make TMs, or be traded for credit he can use for future purchases, such as Fletchling Feathers, Scatterbug Powder, Lechonk Hair, Tarountula Thread, and Hoppip Leaves.
"Whoa, Lincoln." said Nemona as she watches Lincoln train his Pokemon. "You're really getting into training."
"I know, it's so cool!" said Lincoln. A few minutes later, he decides that he trained his Pokemon enough for now.
"Let's head over to the Pokemon Center near Los Platos." suggested Nemona.
"Yeah, the Pokemon have earned a break." said Lincoln. As they head towards the Pokemon Center, Lincoln takes note of all the different kinds of Pokemon that he hasn't caught yet and plans to do so when he gets the chance to. They soon arrive at the Pokemon Center, where Lincoln hands the nurse his Pokemon for treatment, along with exchanging some of the materials he got earlier for credit.
Half an hour later, Lincoln gets his Pokemon back and he feeds them some of the Pokemon food he brought with him, plus let them play around for a while. Once they were done, Lincoln got to work, capturing more Pokemon for his collection.
After two hours, Lincoln caught a Wooper (Paldean one), Psyduck, Buizel, Wiglett, Wingull, Magikarp, Sunkern, Flamigo, Ralts, Pachirisu, Skwovet, Deerling, Happiny, Pichu, Azurill, Igglypuff, Bonsly, Surskit, Bounsweet, and Fidough.
At the ruins that Lincoln mentioned earlier, Lincoln's Scatterbug was staring down a tapirlike Pokemon with a yellow upper body and a brown lower body (Drowzee).
"Okay, Scatterbug; use Tackle!" said Lincoln. The Scatterbug crawls quickly towards the Drowzee and slams into its chest, knocking it onto its back. Lincoln then takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Drowzee, hitting it, and sucking it in. The pokeball wiggles a few times before clicking.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" said Nemona. Drowzee's pokeball then disappears to storage. Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone at his new Drowzee's information.
"This says that my Drowzee is a male, he knows Pound, Disable, Hypnosis, and Confusion; and he has the Insomnia ability, which makes him immune to sleep-inducing effects." said Lincoln.
"You've caught a lot of Pokemon already." said Nemona.
"I did promise Mr. Jacq that I'd try to complete the pokedex for him." said Lincoln.
"Do you think you can do it?" asked Nemona.
"Not sure, but I'm going to have fun trying to." said Lincoln, making Nemona laugh a litle.
"Well, I hope you can someday." said Nemona. Lincoln looks over to a nearby cliff wall and sees the chained-up lid he saw last night with the Naranja Academy Ghost Pokemon Club. Nemona looks at the dome as well.
"I wonder why that dome is chained like that?" asked Lincoln.
"I don't know." said Nemona. "Maybe it's covering something up?"
"Probably." said Lincoln. He looks over at his Scatterbug who was crawling over to him. "Good work, Scatterbug." Scatterbug smiles in response before she suddenly freezes up and starts to glow.
"Hey; your Scatterbug's evolving!" said Nemona.
"Wow! My first evolution!" said Lincoln as he and Nemona watch Scatterbug start to change. When she finished, she was standing upright, most of her body was covered in white fur that had red, black, and yellow specks on it. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and holds it towards his newly evolved Scatterbug.
"Spewpa, the Scatterdust Pokemon, and the evolved form of Scatterbug. If Rufflet attacks this Pokémon by pecking at it, it will retaliate with its sharp fur and poisonous black powder." said the Rotom Phone.
"Congratulations, Lincoln!" said Nemona. Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone and sees that Spewpa learned Protect, and instead of having its original Shield Dust ability, she now has the Shed Skin ability, which has a chance of curing her of any status condition it may be afflicted with.
"That is so awesome!" said Lincoln. He also sees on the Rotom Phone that it was close to lunchtime.
"Wanna go to 'Every 'Wich Way' for lunch?" asked Nemona.
"Sounds good to me." said Lincoln. Just then, they were approached by another Naranja Academy student.
"Hey, new kid." said the student.
"Yeah?" replied Lincoln.
"You want to have a Pokemon battle with me?" asked the student.
"Sure." said Lincoln.
"Wow, Lincoln; your first battle with a trainer." said Nemona. Soon, Lincoln and the student were standing several feet from each other while Nemona watched. Lincoln and the student each pull out a pokeball.
"So how many Pokemon are we using?" asked Lincoln.
"How does one each sound?" asked the student.
"Sounds fine to me." said Lincoln.
"Lechonk, go!" said the student, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Lechonk.
"Go, Sprigatito!" said Lincoln, throwing Sprigatito's pokeball and releasing him. "Sprigatito, Tail Whip!" Spriagatito pounces at Lechonk and wags his tail onto it, weakening its defense.
"Lechonk, Echoed Voice!" said the student. Lechonk lets out a yell and releases soundwaves that hits Spirgatito, hitting him.
"Spirgatito, Bite!" said Lincoln. Spirgatito pounces at Lechonk and bites it, hurting it more than it normally would due to Lechonk's defense being weakened and making it flinch. "Leafage, Spirgatito!" Spirgatito releases glowing green leaves from the leaves around his neck and they hit Lechonk, dealing more damage to it due to Sprigatito's Miracle Seed powering up his grass type attacks and knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Lechonk!" exclaimed the student.
"You did it, Lincoln!" said Nemona.
"Way to go, Sprigatito!" said Lincoln. Lechonk's trainer returns Lechonk to its pokeball and puts it in his pocket; he then walks to Lincoln.
"Not bad." said the student.
"Thanks." said Lincoln. The student gives Lincoln pokedollars, then walks to the Pokemon Center. 'At least he can accept loss with grace; Lynn should take some lessons from him.' Nemona walks to Lincoln.
"How does it feel to win your first battle?" asked Nemona.
"It felt amazing." said Lincoln. "Now, how about lunch?"
"Let's go!" said Nemona. Lincoln returns Spirgatito to his pokeball and he and Nemona both walk into Mesagoza. Later, the two were at 'Every 'wich way', eating sandwiches and drinking soda. Today has been a productive day for Lincoln. What else will Lincoln do as his life in Paldea continues?
