Consciousness came back to Dr Betty Rogers in fits and starts. She awakened for the final time and opened her eyes, looking up at the bright ceiling. She blinked several times to allow her eyes to adjust. She felt a warm hand encased in her own, she knew who it was but looked to her side and saw Oscar sat in the chair beside her bed with a smile on his face. "Hey, Betts." He said softly. She smiled as he squeezed her hand. She groaned as she tried to remember what landed her in the hospital but came up blank. "What happened?" She asked, Oscar sighed. "You passed out in the morgue because you were exhausted." He explained to her. She could tell that Oscar was hiding something from her. She looked to the other side of her bed, hoping to find Angie there but she wasn't. She was almost certain that her best friend would be there.

"Where's Angie?" She asked Oscar. "She went to the station to update everyone." He told her, he went quiet after that, he only stared into eyes, never looking away as if she'd disappear in front of him if he did. Betty knew her friend was hiding something from her, she could tell by the way he kept his eyes on her face and the way he kept squeezing her hand and she had had enough.

"Okay, Oscar, what the hell is going on? I know you're worried about me but can you tell me what makes you think that I'll disappear?" She asked him frustratingly. Oscar looked away from her then, his hand facing the window behind her. Finally the homicide detective sighed and looked at her again, his eyes locked on hers.

"Me and Angie know about the scars, Betts." He whispered quickly, her breath had caught in her throat and her eyes widened. "Y..you know?" She asked quietly. Oscar nodded, confirming what he had just told her.

"Yeah, we know. Your doctor told us about them, wanted to know if we knew." Oscar told her as tears filled her tears. She didn't want to cry in front of him. She'd never liked to cry in front of anyone. "Can you leave?" She asked him, her voice was thick with un-shed tears. Oscar had shook his head. "No, I'm not leaving you, in fact you're stuck with me for a few days when you get out of here." He revealed, Betty looked at her friend with tear filled eyes.

"I don't need a babysitter." She snapped at him, Oscar just shook his head. "You passed out from exhaustion, Betty, in the morgue, you've looked like shit for a week. You obviously can't be trusted to be alone to go to sleep, so until you are, you'll be staying with me." The homicide detective retorted, as if he was interrogating a murder suspect, not his friend and colleague. Betty lets out a sob. She felt her hospital bed dip, strong arms wrap around her and was pulled to Oscar's chest.

Oscar Vega, homicide detective, held his sobbing friend in his arms. He kissed her red hair and just held her. He knew his friend was hurting, he knew that she didn't want her secrets known but that they did and she didn't know how to handle it.

Oscar Vega tightened his arms around the crying redhead and prayed to death that the reason she began cutting wouldn't destroy her.

He couldn't lose her. Not then, not ever.
