To Green Angel Tower - Chapter 3

-=oOo=-

They reached the bathroom and Bill cast a spell on each of them that allowed them to see each other under disillusionment, but no one else. He then disillusioned them.

The eldest opened the bag he brought with the orb and stared at it for several minutes. "Up. Possibly at the top of the castle."

He put the orb back away, making it and him vanish the rest of the way before they climbed the stairs. At the seventh floor they found an out of the way corner and he repeated it. "We are near, but I'm having trouble localizing it. Bill do you know anything up here?"

"No."

"There is no helping it. We will navigate the floor and check in enough places to narrow things down."

They were almost caught a dozen times, but they managed to stay hidden. The most irritating thing was the caretaker's cat. One bit off oddity was they kept appearing in front of a tapestry of trolls being taught ballet.

"Oh come on. We just want to find this thing," muttered Hermione barely audibly.

They moved back and forth several more times, and then suddenly a door opened.

"Shall we randomly walk through the really convenient door?" asked Bill dryly.

"Check it out," dictated the elder to Bill.

He brought out his wand, which appeared in the air and started going through spell after spell before he conjured a monkey who opened it and walked in, then walked back out. He then cast an array of spells into the cluttered room.

The eldest retried the orb. "It is in there. We have to go in."

"I'll go first," said Bill.

He walked in, then looked around a bit, and scanned a bit more. "This much is clear."

They all walked in.

"Harry, Hermione, please wait here and keep the door in sight. I don't want our way out to vanish. Past this point it may get dangerous," said the elder.

"Are you sure?" asked Harry.

"Yes. Our job. Your time has not come yet."

"Alright," said Harry even as Hermione held onto him.

"Before we go further. I want you to keep examining your thoughts for manipulation. The other creations were vile. I expect no less here."

-=oOo=-

They were searching for nearly ten minutes with the aid of the sphere when Gar'nok reminded them, "Keep examining your thoughts for manipulation. I think we are near."

"I can feel it, I think. I can't believe this crap got near my sister," said Bill.

"We will end it. Keep your calm," ordered Gar'nok.

"I will."

Two minutes later they found it.

Gar'nok snorted. "Figures. It is a priceless relic, except now it is worth nothing." He took the sack out that he had pulled the orb from and pulled a very long pole with a clear vial at the end. It had to be thirty feet long. The guards quickly stepped in to help hold it.

Gar'nok filled the vial with liquid from a crystal decanter very slowly and carefully. The guards then slowly extended the long pole above the priceless diadem and without waiting dumped it on it. It hissed and smoked before it screaming and then the remnant spirit flew away and vanished into nothing.

"Remarkable," said a surprise voice as Albus Dumbledore appeared beside them.

"Headmaster?" asked Hermione in surprise.

"You didn't really think you could enter Hogwarts, even with Filius's help and not have me know?"

"Regardless it is done. All pieces accounted for except what is in the orb, which we will deal with now," said Gar'nok.

"I'll wait," said Albus.

The Orb was set on the floor. They refilled the vial before pouring it over the orb. The outer casing immediately fell away and the soul fragment dissipated.

"What did you use?" asked Albus.

"Just muggle Hydrochloric acid."

"So simple. Did you really get them all?"

"Yes. The partial in Harry the Veela purged, this Diadem, Hufflepuffs cup found in the Lestrange vault, Salazar Slytherin's locket, found in a very well secured home in London that belong to the Blacks. Marvolo Gaunt's ring found in an old Shack owned by the family. The Diary that we presume was destroyed by Harry and of course the little monster that was communicating with your defense professor. Some kind of homunculus. That one should have been killed right after the orb was destroyed. That should be the list."

"I can confirm the Diary is destroyed and no longer a Horcrux," said Albus.

"Then we are done. I assume leaving will not be a problem."

"I'll have to ward the bathroom again..."

"We intend to salvage and sell the corpse of the Basilisk for Harry."

"That is fine with me. I ask that when you are done you contact me. I must collapse this way in permanently."

"Agreed."

Albus turned to Harry. "What will you do now Harry?"

"Maybe it is safer now. Maybe it isn't. Either way we plan to go to Beauxbatons and try that out."

Hermione nodded.

"Be careful when people figure out what you are doing. It is not illegal, but they might try to make it so, if they find out," said Albus.

"What?"

"I can read it in your magic. The magic Fleur and the others gave you also isn't fading, and isn't that remarkable? Either way, let me show these gentlemen out, and then we will collect Daphne and her Sister, and possibly Miss Delacour and get you where you want to be," said Albus.

"Your not fighting us? I thought you would insist I stay and compete."

"What did they mean about the defense professor?" asked Hermione.

"I'll deal with him. I suspected, but they have confirmed that someone has replaced my friend. As to Harry. All I can say is I'm sorry. Go and live your life. I'll try to finish cleaning up a few of my messes without you."

Two floors down their newly disillusioned group saw the defense professor.

Bill was the first to see and caught him with a stunner when he saw them with the magical eye. Albus cast a silencing spell so his collapse was not heard, and then floated him into a nearby empty classroom. They all filed in, before becoming visible.

"Well this complicates things."

Gar'nok waved his hands above the man as a trace of magic formed into the air and settled into him. "Polyjuice."

"Yes, that was my guess. Let me send for Filius." Albus drew his wand and cast a patronus, then told it, "Tell Filius we are in the far east classroom on the fifth floor and to come now." The phoenix vanished.

Ten minutes later Filius entered and closed the door.

"So, you found out."

"Yes, but I'm certainly not mad. Will you please show these gentlemen out a normal door? They can of course remain invisible. Also, while your out, can you go to Madam Bones, and get her, and at least one auror she trusts to follow you back here."

"Of course."

-=oOo=-

"This had better be good Albus." She turned and saw who was unconscious and bound on the floor. "Barty Crouch Junior?" she asked.

"So it would seem. Can you please arrest him? I have to go see if I can find Alastor."

"Shack, Tonks, take him in. Do not let him wake up. I want authorization to use Veritaserum, and I want him in front of the Wizengamot dosed to the gills when he wakes. Inform my secretary to call an emergency session in the morning. He is not to wake before then."

"We will get it done."

"I'll join you just as soon as we find Alastor," said Amelia.

Tonks levitated the prisoner out the door while Shack covered them.

Amelia and the Headmaster freed Alastor. They helped him to Pomfrey who treated him, before sending him to Saint Mugno's via her Floo connection. The headmaster then helped the others leave, stopping first at Hermione's house where he knocked.

"What is it? Hermione? What is going on?" asked Emma.

"Who is at the door?" asked Hermione's father.

"People from her school, a professor, and Hermione."

"What?"

"May we come in?" asked a tired Albus.

"Sure."

They listened closely to everything that happened.

"You are not going back to that madhouse," said her father.

"We are planning on going to Beauxbatons. We were hoping you would agree to move in with Fleur's family," said Hermione.

"Is all that really necessary?" asked her mother.

"Yes, I'm afraid it is. They just hurt their leader. Perhaps it won't get found out, but they would blame Harry either way. Hermione is his best friend. You would be targeted as a soft target," said the Headmaster tiredly.

"We can't afford to just get up and move," said her father.

"I think Fleur's parents can probably deal with the guests, and we will figure out something. Please, I just want Hermione's family to be safe," said Harry.

"Alright, thankfully we joined a group. They will have to take our patients for now," said Emma.

-=oOo=-

Daphne rejoined Harry, Hermione, and Fleur at the Delacour estate.

"How goes it?" asked Hermione.

"People are saying Harry Potter abandoned us. They are trying to create a law to take his seat on the Wizengamot," said Daphne.

"Can that work?" asked Hermione.

"No. It won't pass. It could be used on them. Don't worry about it." She turned to Fleur and then her eyes widened. "You did it again, already, really?"

Fleur smiled. "Yes. This is really going to make a large difference, and did you know what was really strange, but oddly nice?"

"No," admitted Daphne.

"I felt my own magic, and the other Veela in Harry being passed back to me. Not all of course, but part. I want you both to do him first. I think it will help, and right now he likely has the capacity for both at least for step one. Then you can get the reverse."

Hermione blushed furiously. Daphne looked puzzled for a moment and then said dryly, "Mind out of the gutter Hermione."

"Oh please," responded Hermione.

Harry blushed furiously.

"Come on lover boy. I assume you have someplace peaceful we will not be distracted," said Daphne.

"Downstairs there is a second living room. My parents want us to use it," said Fleur.

"I see," said Daphne dryly.

Hermione blushed again.

-=oOo=-

Harry laid down on the floor on a pillow while first Hermione and then hesitantly Daphne laid down with their heads across both sides of his chest. They each claimed his hand. Daphne began without asking and then Hermione did the same as their energy streamed into him.

Fleur smiled as they fit each other so very well. She let them fall asleep but monitored them all for almost an hour before Hermione and Daphne were nearly empty, but not dangerously so. She then just let them sleep..

Her mother came down a bit later and said softly, "So this was the next step." She then cast a small area silencing spell so they would not be heard.

"Harry's magic is odd. I think by combining theirs with his, when he helps them, it will become more permanent," said Fleur.

"Are you sure your okay with this? You do know the flaw in this."

"That wards won't be effective against them, and that our magic may refuse to hurt each other, even if there is good reason. Yes, we are fine with it," said Fleur softly.

"And later? Will you all remain together?"

"I don't know. Harry and Hermione will. I can feel his love for her in here." She patted her chest.

"And for you?"

"Attraction, admiration surely, perhaps a bit of infatuation."

"But not love?" whispered her mother.

"Not yet no. Hermione I think is closer, even if the idea of dating a woman is odd to her. Harry, there is a story there, that I need to know. I don't think he was raised like the books said."

"I could ask Alain to investigate."

"I'll wait. He is not going back there correct?" asked Fleur.

"The headmaster assured us that they would not seek him out, though his lack of guardians could be a problem at some point."

"Daphne mentioned she might need an engagement, at least on paper, to stall another engagement. I doubt that will become a problem now, but you never know. The English Ministry is quite corrupt."

"And Hermione?"

"They are not ready for such. A formal engagement their ministry will take will not work with them, or I rather doubt her parents would approve. They could theoretically run off to get married, but again, not ready for such."

"And you?"

"No, maybe someday it will work out, but certainly not today."

"We need a way to have some legal way to keep Harry here. They are pushing for us to return him."

"The coven rules still exist, do they not?" asked Fleur curiously.

"You would formally establish one? That will add a lot of targets to you."

"I will be sorcerer class when this stabilizes, and well into it. I am not sure about the other two, but I suspect they will be as well. You cannot hide that unless you literally do hide, and any other explanation would be worse."

"And Harry?"

"Merlin class, perhaps. Certainly high sorcerer. I'm as surprised as anyone that this is helping him as well," said Fleur.

"I have reviewed this. It is common place with us, but the result is not this. Do you have any theory why?"

"Perhaps something about his magic, in the years it fought that abomination, or that his mother did. That is a guess. We do not actually know."

"And if others ask?"

"Right now our plan is to say no. It seems wise to limit this."

"I agree. Be careful."

-=oOo=-

"I win," said Malfoy softly as he passed Albus in the hall to the Wizengamot.

"Pardon, I'm afraid I'm a bit hard of hearing some days."

Lucious scowled and stalked off.

Amelia came up beside him. "I hope you are ready. Mr. Potter's family is now standing trial in a muggle courtroom. They are unlikely to get their son back, and probably will spend several years in jail."

"Yes, that was a regrettable, if necessary, decision, though Minerva still does not agree."

"Neither do I."

"It's over. Let's move on. Harry certainly has."

"What are you hiding Albus?"

"I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise."

Amelia sighed and walked off.

-=oOo=-

"Well well, on a nearly tied vote, the bill to demand repatriation of children of our homeland who are illegally in another country has passed. Now is there any new business?" asked Albus mildly.

Lucius stood. "I have good evidence that the Delacour family is illegally in custody of Harry Potter. I demand our aurors go and retrieve him now with an order from this chamber. He should be brought here right this very minute."

A gong sounded as four people apparated inside the chamber.

"What was that?" asked Lucius.

"That was, I believe, the Wizengamot wards being shattered by four rather overpowered and simplistic apparitions. Really Harry, you must practice these things," said Albus dryly.

Lucius looked around and saw them all on the main floor not far from Albus.

"You called?" asked Hermione dryly.

"I didn't call for you," sneered Lucius.

"Did the four of you have business before the Wizengamot? Lucius was just about to demand we go fetch you Harry."

Fleur stepped forward. She held a scroll in her hands that she handed to the chief warlock.

Albus opened it and read through it before nodding. He then turned.

"Algernon, would you please verify the authenticity of this?" He handed the scroll to an older man in a dark silvery robe who immediately began casting spells on it, then walked in front of the four.

"Go ahead," said Fleur.

He then cast similar spells on them all. Each time the parchment glowed golden.

He turned to the Wizengamot. "It is my honor to proclaim that House Potter, House Granger, and House Greengrass have allied to form a new coven under House Delacour."

"Impossible," said Lucius.

"No, it is not. They have met the requirements," said Algernon.

"Covens were banned."

"Only to those under Sorcerer class. We left that loophole, since some still thought they could make it work, and wanted the option," said Albus.

"Are you saying that all four are Sorcerer class, including the mud.. err muggleborn?"

"I tested them myself, though I suppose you could stand there and take one of Miss Granger's stunners. That is, if you wanted to be really sure," said Algernon.

"This is preposterous," said a rather toady looking woman.

"Then you are challenging their power against your own? You are claiming they are not Sorcerer class?" asked Albus curiously.

"Yes I am. The muggleborn bint should have her wand snapped and be expelled. The foreign hussy should be kicked out, or forced to face the damn things you had us get. So should Potter for that matter."

"Algernon, will you have the necessary test apparatus delivered?"

"I will."

"How does this work?" asked Harry.

"We are about to find out. There are many ways of doing it. Let's be patient and see which one the unspeakables are using lately."

"This is ridiculous," said the toady woman.

"Madam Umbridge. I rather expect you will be made to show just how weak you are today. I suppose if you want, you could withdraw your request?" said Albus mildly.

"Never."

Blocks of heavy cinder blocks and a dozen pieces of two inch plate steel were brought in via his levitation.

He set one of the pieces of plate steel in front of the cinder blocks.

"Cast a piercing spell at that. If you can break through you are in the sorcerer band of power. If you can't, you are not," said Algernon simply.

"Ah. This is so much simpler than the last time I was tested," said Albus.

Algernon shrugged. "We found simpler is harder to game. A few unspeakable applicants tried to trick us into believing they were more powerful than they were."

"Fine," said Umbridge as she squared herself up and launched a piercing curse. It hit near the edge.

Algernon inspected it. "Approximately a quarter inch penetration. In no way sorcerer class. This is, in fact, well below average."

"I wasn't ready. Let me try again."

"By all means."

She fired again.

"Less this time. You are certainly no sorcerer class."

"I never said I was, but then neither are they."

"We shall see," said Algernon.

"Shall I try?" asked Albus in a bored tone.

"Sure, why not? I'm not wasting a brand new plate, since these are nearly undamaged, and you have plenty of records on file. Just do it."

Albus pulled out his familiar wand as an ominous feeling filled the air. He shot forth casting a thin bar of cutting power that sliced right through.

Algernon inspected. "Approximately a one inch hole straight through, and also through half the cinder blocks. We already knew it, but Albus is clearly still at Sorcerer level power. Now next," said Algernon.

Whispers started to spread.

"I'll give it a go," said Fleur.

"Let me reset the setup." He levitated the destroyed blocks away, to a place up on the main evidence platform. He then levitated a new piece in place, a new cinder block, plus another plate, and another two cinder blocks behind it.

"Confident of me?" asked Fleur curiously.

"I'm not so magically dull that I can't sense what you have been up to. I doubt you will get through both pieces. Your not well enough trained, but time will fix that."

"I only need to get through the first, correct?"

"Yes."

Fleur pulled her wand out.

"A new wand?" asked Croaker.

"My other wand died. It was very sad. This one is considerably stronger."

"That's cheating," said Umbridge.

Algernon sighed. "A wand intended to handle more power actually takes more power just to use. It gives her no advantage, other than not blowing up in her hand. I assume your previous wand did not survive."

"I actually sensed it before it went too far. My previous core is part of this one. We now have four nearly identical wands, each with four nearly identical cores."

"That has to be cheating," said Umbridge.

"Mr. Ollivander, will you please inspect all four of their wands," said Algernon in a irritated voice.

"There really is no need. Adding cores usually doesn't help, unless your overwhelming one. It is almost always less efficient. Again, it is not cheating. It is just building a wand that will serve them. Still, let me take a look. I am, if nothing else, curious."

He walked down into the main area and held out his hand. Fleur handed hers over.

"I don't recognize the wandmaker. I assume she is from your clan?"

Fleur nodded.

"It is made of a piece of the finest Cypress I have ever seen. As many may know Cypress wands are usually associate with nobility. Their owners tend to be brave, and bold and self sacrificing. In times long past the owners of Cypress wands would often die a heroic death. Cypress wand owners are unafraid to confront the shadows in their own and other's natures."

"Get on with it," said Lucius.

"Core wise, you have Veela hair. Same one I presume."

"No, I have given that one to Daphne. My grandmother provided the three new hairs."

"An interesting choice, and it clearly has an affinity for you. A phoenix feather, from Fawkes I think?"

"Yes, Fawkes honored us with three more feathers. Harry's original went to Hermione."

"Dragon Heatstring. Hermione's I think? I sense a tiny bit of my magic on it."

"Correct. The others have new heartstrings."

"And Ashwinder Ash core. Has Daphne's core also been reused?"

"Yes, In Harry's wand."

"So, a group of four wands, created to be similar, with the same wood?"

Fleur nodded.

"With the same wood, and the same type of cores, and each original core given to another, likely to enhance the bond between members of the coven. You have planned very well indeed. Remarkable."

"Aren't you going to test it?" asked Umbridge.

"I think not. It may react badly to magic from others, and I'd quite like to keep my hands," said Olivander dryly.

He handed the stout wand back. He then turned to Hermione. "Can I see yours? I should think one more would be enough."

She handed it over.

"Everything is as this lovely lady has said. Their wands are fine. There is certainly nothing wrong with a multiple core wand, but it won't help people get stronger. My matches are very good indeed. Had these four come in as they are now, well, it would have been quite a challenge to build a wand of this quality. You are very lucky indeed to have access to such a wand maker."

He handed that wand back as well.

"Can I get this over with?" asked Fleur.

"I think I shall stay and watch. This is all fascinating," said Ollivander.

Fleur stepped back to where Algernon indicated then launched a non verbal piercing spell that was clearly bigger and brighter.

"Approximately one and a half inch hole. Second plate half penetrated. Well into sorcerer class."

"Impossible. She is a damn..." Umbridge trailed off when four sets of eyes glared at her. Suddenly there was an ominous feel in the room.

"Next please," said Algernon, having already moved that set to the display stand.

"I'll go." offered Daphne. She smiled at Lucius direction. It was not a friendly smile, before she turned and fired all in one motion with no warning.

"One and a quarter inch hole. A bit less penetration into the second. Still easily sorcerer class, and given the age difference, they could end up equal in power," said Algernon.

Lucius paled, and then quickly recovered his mask.

"Next?"

"Me I suppose. Do we have to use a piercing spell. They are boring."

"What do you have in mind?" asked Algernon curiously.

"I've been watching shows about how everyday people cut metal. I want to try something I've been working on," said Hermione.

"Sure why not? It won't be an official result, but I think I can tell close enough."

"That is cheating," said Umbridge.

Hermione sighed and cast a piercing spell.

"Same as previous. So sorcerer class. Still want to try the new one?"

"Yes."

He replaced the plates and blocks.

Hermione spent a couple minutes focusing before pointing and shooting. Her bar of light was bright but not painfully so. It did, however, produce a painful whine as it eat into the target. The spell continued to connect Hermione and the target as it cut right through, coming out the other side and hitting a final set of cinder blocks before she stopped.

Algernon walked up. "Metal chips?" he asked.

"Muggle machinests would call it swarf. It is basically what you get when you use hard metals such as carbide to cut other metals a bit at a time. The spell is a set of continuous actions. It was actually probably less energy than the previous."

"The whole is nearly three inches in diameter and is all the way through both plates. I have no way to rate it, but I doubt there is much that would stop it. Your clearly sorcerer class. You also have an invitation to the Unspeakables, if you want it, that is, once you graduate."

"Thank you. I shall think on it."

"Mr. Potter. I am quite sure you can do it, but let's finish this."

"Alright."

The targets were reset. Harry focused for a second and a bar of light lanced out without further words or waving.

"Two inches, very nearly through the second. I'm not going to speculate, since the test isn't intended to compare one Sorcerer to another. I will, however leave their efforts. Feel free to try yourself. That was two inch plate steel."

"It would seem they meet all the definitions for a Coven, and as they already have signed and all the paperwork is in order, I declare the Coven official," said Albus brightly.

"Does that mean he doesn't have to return?" asked someone high up.

"It means Fleur, as the only of age in the coven makes the decisions. Once they are all of age, that will change. They can, however, establish their own rules," said the Chief Warlock.

"We do not intend to abandon our home, but for now we are going to learn," said Harry.

"I am so very not sad to say, that I will never marry into the Malfoy family, nor will my sister," said Daphne.

"The people that raised me, well that is over, and I know you have made sure they will be in jail for years. I ask you not to judge muggles by them. Hermione's family is great, and we have met so many muggles that are great. That thing Hermione did. I still don't fully understand it, and she has explained it three times. If a clever Witch like her can come up with something new, just by seeing what a muggle did and making it better, I have to wonder at what we are missing? What bright future have we turned away from because we did not think to look?" asked Harry.

For a brief moment magic seemed to coalesce on its own forming a brief image of a greenish tinted crystalline castle in the room, and then it was gone.

"What was that?" asked Madam Bones.

"I'm not sure. I think it was perhaps a shadow of prophecy," said Algernon in clear surprise.

"I have one other demonstration, if people are interested. It was supposed to follow up on what Harry..." started Hermione uncertainly.

"Go ahead," said Albus.

She conjured a light weight wooden aircraft correctly sized, with correct wings.

"I can't really test this in here, but see the shape of these wings. Muggles learned some time ago that if you can move fast enough in the air, this wing creates lift, keeping it in the air. We plan to start with making new flying craft that are an alternative to brooms, that take less magic to fly."

"It is illegal to sell anything other than brooms," said Umbridge.

"Actually only carpets are banned for some strange reason, but even if you do, we can still sell them in other countries. We, after all, don't live here anymore," said Hermione.

"We should go," said Fleur.

"They have restored the wards, somehow," said Harry.

"It won't matter," said Fleur.

They vanished with a crack, shattering the wards again.

"We may have to consider setting a fine for breaking the wards," said Albus dryly.

"We should establish a law to ban this crap she is trying to make," said Umbridge.

"Why?" asked Albus curiously.

"It's not right. Only approved forms of transport are accepted."

"And yet, you could have argued the same in the time before brooms. They weren't used much in my youth. Perhaps they should have been banned then?"

"I believe we have covered our agenda for today," said Amelia.

"True. Everyone is dismissed."

"Wait, how did they do what they did?"

Albus shrugged. "The tests Algernon did would have picked up on Dark Magic, so it is clearly not that, meaning it is their business, not ours."

"But we want it for our children!"

"I believe they have stolen magic. We will find out soon, and they will pay," said Lucius.

"I believe it was your lot that stole magic Lucius."

"You cannot talk to me like that, not in the Wizengamot!"

"We are dismissed. It was you and your terrorist friends that stole the life and thus the magic from so damn many, and damn me for not doing more about it. If you think I will casually let you keep harassing the next generation with so much potential then you have another thing coming."

"I could claim insult."

"Please do. I am ready to duel anytime."

"You and they will pay!"

A woman gave Amelia a note.

She read it and smiled before standing. "Lucius Malfoy you are under arrest."

"On what charge?" he sneered.

"I got permission based on a lead from the Veritaserum interrogation the Wizengamot authorized which led to your and two dozen other prominent doorsteps. This session seemed the best time, so I invoked an ancient mutual defense treaty with France and Span and managed to get enough of their aurors to do the raids."

"Impossible. My wards."

"Did we mention we asked Harry and his friends to aid some curse breakers and run around and break them before they got here?" asked Madam Bones.

"You set this up," snarled Lucius.

"No, you set this up. We merely decided to use your plan as part of ours," smiled Albus.

"Just in case there was any doubt. I know my organization is likely infiltrated, with spies at minimum. I have spoken with the other DMLE organizations, and to further resist such corruption we are going to rotate our people through their organizations to try to find this corruption and end it," said Amelia.

"You will pay."

"No, I rather think you will. Take him away, unless he wishes to use his wand."

Lucius turned himself over without further fight.
