Once they were back at the Noti camp and back onboard the shuttle, Ahsoka poured Sabine some of her freshly-brewed tea. The Mandalorian sipped and sighed as the drink warmed her from the inside out. "Thanks... I needed that."
Ahsoka smiled and sat beside her Padawan. "Now, what exactly did it feel like when you saw Ezra this morning?"
Sabine rubbed her neck as she tried to recall the exact feeling. "Well... it was similar to the feeling I got when I first saw him here. It was warm... comforting... like I was finally whole again."
"And the same thing happened earlier, on the plains?"
"Well, yeah", Sabine answered, "But this time I heard his voice. It was like he was right next to me... I heard it clear as day."
Ahsoka sipped her tea and idly tapped her fingers on the table. "I see... I'd like you to try something."
"What did you have in mind?"
"I want you to try to reach out to Ezra."
Sabine raised an eyebrow in disbelief. "What? There's no way I'll be able to do that." Ahsoka shook her head and sighed. "After everything you've accomplished, you still doubt yourself. Just try it. If you can't, then my theory will be disproven. If you can, I think you'll be pleased." The Mando groaned in exasperation and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Ugh... okay then. So what do I do?"
The Togruta Jedi stood and gestured to the floor. "Have a seat. Meditation pose." Sabine did as she was instructed, kneeling down. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, calming her heart rate as Ahsoka had trained her to do many times. "Okay... now what?"
"Just concentrate... focus on Ezra... search through the Force for him."
Sabine focused with everything she had, looking for that presence she craved to be near so badly.
"Ezra..."
On Lothal, Ezra was in the middle of a meeting with Governor Azadi and Senator Kell, when he suddenly felt that familiar sensation he'd had a few hours previous. He zoned out of the conversation, Ryder and Jai's words fading into the background as the Force began to speak to the Jedi. He closed his eyes and focused on this sensation, wanting to figure out what it was and where it was coming from.
"Ezra..."
His eyes snapped open. "Sabine!!", he shouted in surprise. His face turned red with embarassment when he saw Ryder and Jai staring at him, perplexed. Ezra cleared his throat and quickly stood up. "Uh... if you guys will excuse me, I have to go run a quick errand. So if we can just reschedule this meeting for a later date that would be great okay thanks bye!!", he said rapidly as he backed out of the room and closed the door behind him. The young man then leaned back against the door and hyperventilated as he tried to process what he just felt. After catching his breath, he left the Senate building and hopped on Sabine's custom-painted speeder bike, taking off at top speed away from the city.
Once he was a significant distance outside of the city, Ezra hopped off the bike and knelt down in the grass, running his hands through the dirt to ground himself. "What... what was that?", he asked himself as he looked to the sky, "It sounded like... like she was right next to me. Maybe... maybe I could..." He assumed the meditation pose and took a deep breath, his confusion melting away as the Force put him at ease.
"Sabine... if you're out there... I hope you can hear me..."
Sabine was losing her patience. She was focusing as hard as she could but she wasn't getting any response. "This is pointless... I can't reach him. I'm not strong enough."
"Keep trying", Ahsoka scolded, "Your self-doubt is only making things harder for you."
The Mandalorian was about to respond with a snarky comment when she got a chill down her spine.
"Sabine... if you're out there... I hope you can hear me..."
"E-Ezra?", she called out through the Force, "A-Are you there?"
"It's me, Sabine", Ezra responded, trying not to choke up due to how happy he was to hear her voice again, "I heard you call out to me."
"You... you mean I did it?"
"Ah, so you were doing it on purpose", he said cheekily, "You must be getting stronger."
"Hey, don't discount yourself", she replied, "You're doing it, too."
Ezra chuckled as he kept concentrating on the sound of her voice. "Sabine... I really miss you."
"I miss you, too, Ezra", she said while trying to keep from sobbing, "There's so much I have to tell you... so much I want to tell you."
"I have things to tell you, too, Sabine... but why don't we save them for when we see each other again?"
"W-When?", she asked, "Don't you mean 'if'?"
"No, Sabine... I mean 'when'. We'll see each other again soon. I know it."
"But Ezra, I don't... I don't know if I'm strong enough... I don't know if I'll be able to make it through this."
"You will, Sabine... I know you will... May the Force be with you."
The Mandalorian's breath hitched as she impulsively let her feelings slip. "Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum, Ezra."
Ezra didn't understand Mando'a, so Sabine's words went right over his head. Before he could ask what they meant, the connection ended and he opened his eyes, disappointed that he could no longer hear the voice of his best friend.
"Be safe, Sabine..."
