His mother, who introduced herself as Inukimi, was as much of a talker as Sesshoumaru was not, and it made Kagome wonder if it was something he'd picked up from his father. She immediately banished the thought; Inuyasha shared the same genes, and from what he'd told her about his mother, his boisterousness and lack of tact had been inherited directly from Inu no Taisho.
Kagome chuckled to herself, drawing Inukimi's gaze, and she bowed her head in apology. "I was thinking about a friend of mine and his inability to read social cues."
"Anyone I know? They sound amusing."
Kagome shook her head. She didn't know how much his mother knew about Inuyasha or what her relationship had been with their father other than what Sesshoumaru had told her, but she wasn't about to give away more information than necessary. "You both come from very different social circles," she said evasively.
"Do you not reside at the shiro?" The question could've meant nothing, but Sesshoumaru's initial concern was nothing to be ignored, and Kagome strived for nonchalance.
"I don't stay in one place for very long. My expertise was needed here, but I doubt I'll be staying much longer."
A pale eyebrow rose, but Kagome kept her eyes on her cup, leaving Inukimi to sigh. "It is probably for the best. My son's home has become boring as of late."
"Your son?" she asked, feigning ignorance, then mentally kicked herself. It's not like she could be talking about anyone else.
