Pine bath oil, a diary, Foster getting a point, Alec hating potatoes, a risqué lace slip, a wedding ring, an act of treason and a Polish forest. What do all these things have to do with Straker's final scheme within a scheme when he learns he is dying?

Alec Freeman and Commander Straker deal with the psychological and physical repercussions of an UFO attack on a small village that claims several young lives. However, they both choose to deal with it in strange ways. Meanwhile, Alec falls in love *again*, and Ed Straker remembers a theft for which he paid a high price. Of course, the dog did it...or so the Commander claims.
