Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, the battle between Aquaman and Darkblood hit a milestone in that Aquaman has now lost a hand. But that's when Blaze and her team came in. And as both Blaze and his parents tried to pull Dragnarok out of Darkblood, the plan seemed to work, as a familiar comforting sparkle appeared in Darkblood's eyes. But we're not dealing with them right now. Don't forget, there's more to the team. Let's see how Batman and company are doing.
(Our story picks up back outside of the palace where Batman, Green Arrow, and Flash are battling the corrupted Doctor Fate, and needless to say, it's not going well in the slightest since everybody but Doctor Fate looks like they're about to die.)
Flash: Bruce, this has to be the second worst decision you've ever made!
Green Arrow: Only behind you letting Superman escape!
(Green Arrow docks an arrow, and Doctor Fate fires a magic bolt that paralyzes his arm. Flash tries to run behind Doctor Fate, only for the sorcerer to trip him up. And Batman, doesn't appear to be doing anything)
Flash: (As he's hung up by his ankle) A little help would be great, Bruce! I'm getting airsick up here!
Green Arrow: (Looks at Batman) Are you going to do anything at all or are you just going to let us die here!?
Batman: Help is already on the way.
Flash: Do I even want to know?
(In that moment, the corrupted Doctor Fate throws Flash to the ground and then turns his attention towards Batman, preparing a bolt of magic to permanently end the Dark Knight. But before he can, a magic circle appears behind Batman and casts a counter-spell, somehow knocking Doctor Fate back. At this point, everybody is curious as to who this was, and as the trio turns around, the mystery mage is revealed to be, of all people, John Constantine.)
Flash: John?
Green Arrow: I thought you were out of this!
John Constantine: Rose would never forgive me if I left Kent like this. (To Batman) I had better be able to get back to my daughter after this shit is over.
Batman: You have my word.
Flash: (At super-speed so even Batman can't hear him) Whatever's that worth these days.
John Constantine: (To Doctor Fate) Sorry for any bruises, Kent.
(The corrupted Doctor Fate doesn't respond to John Constantine at all, beyond a growl as he goes to attack, and with John Constantine's magic on their side, the battle starts to turn in favor of the four mortals.)
John Constantine: Time to put an end to this. (Casts wards of protection before summoning all of his magic into his hands) Raga Malifik, Raga Malifik, Raga Malifik!
(As John Constantine chants, the corrupted Doctor Fate starts to recoil in pain while John Constantine approaches him, all the magic he could ever summon channeled into his hands. And with those hands, he grabs hold of the Helm of Fate and plucks it off Kent Nelson's head, causing the Dark Aether markings to drain from him, restoring Kent Nelson to normal.)
Kent Nelson: (Finally in control) What... what happened? (Looks around) Why am I in Atlantis? (Suddenly sees John Constantine and the Helm of Fate) Of course, now I recall. Darkblood turned... (Realizes the danger John Constantine is in) John, throw down the Helm.
John Constantine: Even after what that Darkblood bloke did to it, you still want it back?
Kent Nelson: Not to don, never again. I need to destroy it!
Batman: Why? Darkblood's corruption over you is undone.
Kent Nelson: No, you don't understand! Darkblood never corrupted me, he corrupted the Helm itself!
(And just as Kent Nelson gets his warning out, tendrils of Dark Aether shoot out of the Helm and try to move it on to John Constantine's head)
John Constantine: Bugger me!
(Wasting no time, John Constantine throws the Helm of Fate down before it can possess him. Not that it matters, since it soon forms itself a body similar to the corrupted form of Doctor Fate)
Doctor Fate: Your interference in my master's plans ends here.
John Constantine: Doctor Fate and Kent Nelson separate? This is not good.
Kent Nelson: This is beyond simply not good. Nabu is a Lord of Order in and of himself. If Darkblood could bend him to his will, the power he holds is unparalleled.
Doctor Fate: (Summons forth Dark Aether infused magic into his hands) It is true. My master's power is beyond your comprehension. Allow me to demonstrate.
Kent Nelson: We need to run. Blaze may be the only one who can stop this!
Flash: Wait, how are you so sure?
Kent Nelson: I'll explain later, we need to run!
(Realizing Kent Nelson has a point, the now quintet runs out of there, heading towards the throne room, seeking Blaze on Kent Nelson's suggestion, only for Doctor Fate to pursue them as our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for today. So, a huge revelation made today. Kent Nelson was never corrupted by Darkblood, but by some hellish miracle, the freaking Helm of Fate, Nabu itself, was! And now you see why I've been labelling Kent Nelson and Doctor Fate as separate people all this time. Preparing for this very moment. Sure it took us a while to get here, but here we are. And if you thought the situation was FUBAR before, it somehow just got a whole lot worse now. So, why does Kent Nelson believe Blaze is the only one who can stop this? And will the Legion and Republic be able to cope with Doctor Fate now under Darkblood's command and not needing Kent Nelson anymore? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
