A/N: Chapter 9 is here! thanks for the support as always! Now, no more time wasting...
Chapter 9: Clash
The second day of U.A was commencing. Izuku, having just finished his morning workout and gotten ready, was making his way downstairs to the kitchen. As he was eating his breakfast, a voice spoke out from behind him.
"You're up early."
Turning around, he was greeted by Melissa, who was already dressed for the day.
"O-oh yeah, I like to get up early and get some exercise in. I could say the same for you though Shield," Izuku replied, slightly nervously.
Taking a seat next to him, she smiled,
"Melissa. I know the culture is different here in Japan, but I can never get used to being addressed by my surname. So, you call me Melissa and I'll call you Izuku. How does that sound?" She asked, even though it was more of a demand.
Izuku blushed slightly and turned away.
"Y-yeah that's fine by me," He replied quietly.
Melissa giggled at the manner of his response before continuing to speak.
"But yeah, I'm the same with the whole waking up early thing. My training for U.A these last few years had me getting up super early so it's all just normal for me now." She explained.
The two fell into a short and comfortable silence, which Melissa broke as Izuku finished his breakfast.
"So, do you want to walk together to class?" She asked.
Izuku smiled.
"I'd like that." He replied.
As the two walked, they continued conversing.
"So how do you know Katsuki?" Izuku asked.
"Well, I'm originally American but I moved to Musutafu around four years ago to prepare for U.A University. I ended up at Aldera, the same middle and high school as him. The first proper conversation I had with him he asked me to spar. The second was when he was hitting me with a volley of explosions." She allowed a smile to creep onto her face as she reminisced.
Izuku let out a laugh at the nature of the meeting.
"Yeah, I get the impression that he's that type of guy," Izuku responded humorously. Despite forgetting his childhood with Katsuki, it had only taken a handful of meetings for Izuku to gauge his personality.
"He was even more of a piece of work back then, but I could tell, all he needed was a friend at the time. It took a while, but I got through to him and we've been friends ever since," She said somewhat fondly.
"O-oh s-so, you're not dating?" Izuku stammered out. He had turned his face away to hide the fact that it was getting increasingly red by asking what he deemed as a bold question.
Melissa looked at him oddly before bursting out laughing.
"Me and Katsuki? No way. I never date someone who can't even call me by my name. Not to mention the constant yelling," She remarked in a dismissive fashion.
She looked at him directly and smiled once more.
"Personally, I prefer shy guys."
Izuku blushed again slightly before switching topics to avoid further embarrassment.
"R-right s-so who's your favourite hero?" He asked as it was the first and only question that came to mind.
"All Might of course!" Melissa replied without hesitation, before pondering for a moment. "But if I had to pick a close second, it would definitely be Mirko followed by Ryukyu at number three. Yourself?" She turned the question back to him.
"Oh, top three? Hmmm, well if All Might is number one by default, I'd say Hawks is second and Edgeshot third." He replied, after giving it some thought.
"Nice picks. Hawks and Edgeshot though, stark contrasts there," She noted.
"Yeah. I like Hawks because he manages to always get to the scene and solve the problem so quickly all while cracking jokes. He always makes dangerous hero work just look like fun. His Fierce Wings quirk as well is one of the most versatile I've ever seen! As for Edgeshot, well he's just awesome. The way how he can remain so calm and collected all the time while manipulating his body and despite the application of his quirk and the potential implications, it's a marvel to watch I-"
Melissa giggled at Izuku's semi-gushing at his favourite heroes, which snapped him out of it, causing him to blush again.
"I can see why Katsuki calls you a hero nerd," She said with a playful grin on her face.
"O-oh, my bad, I started ranting, didn't I?" He apologised nervously, slightly embarrassed by his habit of hero analysis.
"Don't apologise, it's cool that you're so passionate about it. Your knowledge about quirks as well is super impressive" She complimented him, before pausing and smiling.
She then looked him straight in the eyes as she continued.
"Besides, I think it's kind of cute."
This time, Izuku couldn't prevent his face from resembling a tomato.
Melissa burst out laughing once more.
The second day of classes was relatively normal. Class 1-A had a short homeroom period at the start with Aizawa followed by Modern Literature with Cementoss. The second period consisted of Modern Hero Art History with the R-Rated Hero: Midnight, and Mathematics with Ectoplasm proceeded afterwards. English with Present Mic was the final class before lunch. However, it was the class after lunch that was the most anticipated for the day. The first Foundational Hero Studies class. It was rumoured to be taught by All Might himself.
This was unsurprisingly the hot topic of conversation throughout Class 1-A during their lunch break, the majority of which sat at the same table with the exception of Todoroki and Koda who had decided to go back to the dorms for lunch. After lunch, the class were waiting excitedly in their homeroom, when a voice echoed from the hallway.
"I AM…"
The class turned as the man himself burst into the doorway.
"COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
The class was star-struck as All Might stood there in his Silver Age costume. It was one thing having him rumoured as the teacher. That rumour being a reality truly left them in awe. All Might strode to the front of the class to announce the agenda for the class.
"AS YOU KNOW, I WILL BE TEACHING FOUNDATIONAL HERO STUDIES FOR YOUR CLASS THIS YEAR! AND THE THEME FOR THE FIRST CLASS IS…"
All Might reached into his pocket and pulled out a card with the word 'Battle' on it.
"COMBAT TRAINING!"
The class buzzed with excitement at the prospect of letting loose with their quirks again.
"TO GO ALONG WITH THIS TRAINING ARE THESE!"
All Might pointed to the wall, and on cue, a panel emerged containing cases numbered 1 to 20.
"THESE ARE YOUR COSTUMES! THEY HAVE BEEN MADE BASED ON YOUR QUIRK REGISTRATIONS ALONG WITH THE REQUESTS THAT YOU SENT IN AT THE START OF THE YEAR! NOW, GET CHANGED AND GATHER AT GROUND BETA!"
"Yes sir!" The class echoed in response.
Izuku rushed to get changed and emerged in his hero outfit soon after. Black cargo pants with a dark green circuitry design on them were tucked into black combat boots. He wore a black t-shirt underneath his dark green jacket that had two black rings on the biceps. On his hands were a pair of black fingerless gloves with dark green linings. The outfit was completed with his goggles that rested on his forehead. Simple, but multifunctional.
He was one of the first at Ground Beta along with Tokoyami and Shoji who had relatively simplistic designs. His other classmates arrived shortly after him. Looking around, he marvelled at the variety of designs for the costumes. The complex outfits of Ida and Uraraka, who had robotic and space-themed costumes respectively, the more practical of, Asui, Kaminari and Jiro, and the gaudy of Aoyama, Kirishima, Yaoyarozu and Hagakure (whom he was sure was naked, but he was not brave enough to ask), as well as everything in between. Katsuki arrived in his bomber-themed costume with his black mask and two huge grenade gauntlets on his forearms, alongside Todoroki who had completely frozen his left side, leaving only a glowing red eye. Katsuki walked over next to him while Todoroki remained at the back of the group.
The one that especially caught his eye, however, was Melissa's costume.
Her outfit consisted of a turquoise spandex that extended to her mid-thigh, just above the knee, as well as her mid-bicep. She donned white knee-high boots with turquoise lining and on her forearms were white gauntlets, that also covered the back of her palms, with gold and turquoise lining. Around her waist was a gold belt that had points in the middle and on both hips to give it a resemblance to the letter 'M'. Her blonde hair was let down loose and flowed past her shoulder.
He felt a nudge on his arm and looked to see Ashido smirking mischievously.
"Just checking you weren't frozen in place, you were staring pretty hard," She said playfully.
"O-oh I-I um," He stammered nervously, trying to think of an excuse.
Ashido simply giggled at his awkwardness.
Melissa and Uraraka spotted them and walked over together smiling.
"Looking good guys!" Uraraka said with a thumbs up.
Katsuki scoffed while Izuku laughed before All Might spoke, drawing their attention.
"VERY NICE YOUNG MEN AND LADIES! FROM NOW ON YOU ARE HEROES! WEAR THOSE COSTUMES WITH PRIDE AS THEY REPRESENT WHO YOU ARE! NOW…SHALL WE BEGIN, YOU ZYGOTES?"
Ida raised his hand and spoke.
"Teacher? Since this is a battle center that we encountered in the entrance exam, will we be conducting urban battles again?" He asked.
"Good Question, but no! While yes, the majority of villain combat is outside, the most dangerous villains appear indoors. The numbers back this up. Situations such as hostages and backroom deals…These are the situations that truly intelligent villains conjure in this society full of heroes! Today we will be conductin indoor anti-personnel training."
Asui tilted her head in concern and raised her hand.
"We'll be doing this without basic training? Ribbit," She asked.
"THE BEST EXPERIENCE COMES FROM REAL BATTLE! However, this time, it is not just disposable robots that are simply destroyed…"
"How will wins and losses be determined?" Yaoyorozu question interrupted.
"Can I destroy them anyways?" This sounded more akin to a threat than a question by Katsuki.
"Are you going to threaten to expel us like Mr Aizawa?" Uraraka asked worriedly.
"How will the teams be decided?" Ida asked in an eager manner.
"Isn't my cape amazing?" Aoyama interjected, swishing his cape to give off a sparkling effect.
All Might started to sweat nervously.
"I'LL ANSWER ALL OF THOSE QUESTIONS…Just give me a moment"
All Might pulled out a notebook and started to read the plan for the class.
"The situation is a bomb threat. The bomb will be hidden somewhere in the building. The heroes must catch the villains or secure the weapon in the allotted time. The villains must protect the bomb for the entire time or catch the heroes. We will decide the teams by drawing lots."
Ida was shocked at this method.
"We'll be deciding teams randomly and haphazardly? He sputtered in confusion.
"It makes sense…" Izuku said thoughtfully.
The class turned their attention to him.
"Pro heroes often have to work together in the field in makeshift teams with heroes from other agencies. This simulates that perfectly." Izuku clarified.
"I see…Such incredible foresight! Excuse my rudeness sir!" Ida bowed to a ninety-degree angle as he apologised.
"Not an issue. NOW LET'S COMMENCE QUICKLY!"
The teams following teams were drawn:
Team A: Midoriya and Shield
Team B: Shoji and Todoroki
Team C: Mineta and Yaoyorozu
Team D: Bakugo and Uraraka
Team E: Ashido and Aoyama
Team F: Koda and Sato
Team G: Kaminari and Jiro
Team H: Tokoyami and Asui
Team I: Ida and Hagakure
Team J: Kirishima and Sero
Melissa looked at Izuku and smiled at him.
"Looks like we're together. Let's do our best," She said.
"Y-yeah," He smiled back nervously and responded.
After getting into their teams, the class turned their attention back to All Might who was about to announce which teams would be facing each other.
"NOW…THE FIRST TEAMS TO FIGHT WILL BE…TEAM A AS THE HEROES…AND TEAM D AS THE VILLAINS! VILLAIN TEAM, GO IN FIRST AND PREPARE YOURSELVES, YOU WILL HAVE FIVE MINUTES UNTIL THE HERO TEAM IS ALLOWED TO ENTER, AND THE BATTLE WILL START! THE REST OF YOU, FOLLOW ME TO THE OBSERVATION ROOM!"
All Might addressed Katsuki and Uraraka as they were about to enter the building.
"Young Uraraka, Young Bakugo, you must think from the perspective of a villain in order to maximise the learning from this exercise. Do not be afraid to get hurt and do not be afraid to go all out, however, I will stop the match if things go too far."
"Yes sir!" Uraraka replied earnestly, while Katsuki simply scoffed.
Upon entering the building and proceeding to the bomb, Uraraka walked over to it and stared.
"So, this is what we're meant to protect? They definitely got the whole 'nuclear warhead' aesthetic perfectly," She said absentmindedly.
She tapped the bomb with her knuckles several times.
"Huh…it's papier mâché…What to do…Melissa is pretty strong, but her control over her quirk seems shaky… Midoriya seems to be the much more dangerous of the two, especially with the variety of machines he can build. What do you suggest we do Bakugo?" As she asked the question, she turned to Katsuki who had been standing in silence, facing the doorway.
"You make things float don't ya Round Face?" Katsuki had seemingly ignored her previous statements and question, opting to ask a question of his own.
"Round face? That's not my-never mind, yes, I can, I get sick if I exceed a weight limit, but that shouldn't be much of an issue here," Uraraka clarified, deciding to not get into an argument with Katsuki over her designated nickname.
"You stay here and guard the bomb. Keep it outta reach from Blondie. I'll deal with the Nerd," He replied before walking towards the doorway.
"Right…But I can help! All I've got to do is touch Midoriya and he'll be immobilised! He's pretty strong so once we take him out, Melissa won't stand a chance against both of us," She reasoned.
"Don't be stupid Round Face. The nerd can move well in the air. If you do that then there's nothing between him and the bomb. Besides, we're cramped inside, you'll just get in the way of my quirk." He said this with a tone of finality. Uraraka conceded, albeit dejectedly and silently remained where she was.
As he walked to the door, he turned to Uraraka and his eyes narrowed as he issued a final warning.
"And one more thing Round Face…Don't underestimate Blondie."
With that, he exited the room.
Outside the entrance to the building, Izuku and Melissa were planning their approach.
"From what I saw at the quirk apprehension test, Uraraka can cancel out the gravity and make things float just by touching them while Katsuki can create explosions from his palms. In a close-range environment, they're both extremely effective quirks," Izuku said thoughtfully.
He placed a hand on his chin and paused before continuing, while Melissa listened carefully.
"While we can't underestimate Uraraka, Katsuki's combat prowess is most likely to pose the biggest threat. Our best-case scenario would be to encounter them separately. I also think this is what is most likely to happen," He concluded.
"How can you be so sure they'll split up?" She questioned.
"Well while close range is the biggest strength of their quirks, it's also created their biggest weakness. Uraraka is unlikely to be able to get in close while Katsuki is attacking or he'll risk hitting her, especially in such a cramped environment. I'm sure someone like Katsuki would recognise this. Our best bet would be for me to try and take him on myself, but that means it's all on you to get to and capture the bomb. I hate to have to put so much pressure on you, but our victory is dependent on whether or not you can defeat Uraraka," He said determinedly.
"No problem. You can consider it done," She replied with equal determination.
They both faced the building.
"By the way Izuku. Don't forget that I'm aiming to be Number 1 as well. While you and Katsuki are ahead of me for now, watch yourself, because I'm going to keep working until I surpass both of you," She said with a burning conviction.
All Might's voice echoed through the speakers.
"Team A and Team D, indoor battle training exercise…START!"
Izuku turned to her with a hint of admiration and grinned.
"You've got it. Now let's go get that victory," He declared.
"Right!" She responded and nodded.
Izuku and Melissa entered the designated building. Time was limited, so they had to move quickly when visibility was clear such as in straight corridors, however, the pair would stop to carefully peek when approaching corners. They had managed to clear three floors of the twelve-storey building without encountering either Katsuki or Uraraka.
Just as they were halfway through the fourth floor, however, Izuku heard a small pop and his instincts took over, grabbing Melissa and diving backwards as Katsuki emerged from a side room and let off a powerful explosion that narrowly missed the duo. He waved away the smoke and stood there silently with a dangerous glint in his eyes.
Izuku and Melissa quickly sprung to their feet. They glanced at each other, and Izuku nodded at her to get past Katsuki and keep searching for the bomb. Melissa made a dash forward, but a sudden explosion ignited in front of her, cutting off her path.
Katsuki glared at her.
"You didn't think I was just gonna let you get by so easily did ya?" He snarled.
A giant hand extended towards him out of the corner of his eye, and he launched himself into the air with an explosion to avoid it. Standing there was Izuku with his left Smack Hand formed.
"Melissa! Run!" Izuku shouted, as he dodged another explosion and took another wild swipe at Katsuki that missed. It distracted Katsuki for long enough, however, to give her an opening to escape.
Melissa sprinted down the corridor and up another flight of stairs, vanishing and leaving the two boys to engage in combat.
Katsuki looked at Izuku with a savage grin.
"Alright, Nerd. Prepare to get taken apart!" He yelled.
Izuku formed his right Smack Hand in response, completing the pair and grinning back.
"Bring it on!" Izuku exclaimed.
Without hesitation, Katsuki launched himself at Izuku who attempted to time a counterattack by throwing a right hook when Katsuki got close.
It was unsuccessful, however, and Izuku could only watch as his fist crashed into the wall as Katsuki performed a swift manoeuvre, launching himself into a front flip over Izuku's head and raining down two brutal explosions from above.
Landing behind Izuku, Katsuki was about to continue the assault, but Izuku managed to pivot quickly, swinging his left Smack Hand around and pinning Katsuki against the wall. He made a crucial mistake, however, by leaving Katsuki's palms free, and as he was about to squeeze Katsuki into submission, a large explosion rang out, blowing a large chunk out of his Smack Hand and sending him reeling back in pain.
They faced each other at opposite ends of the hallway, glaring at each other.
Suddenly, Katsuki's expression shifted to another grin.
"Hey Nerd…You might have forgotten, so let me refresh your memory. My quirk, Explosion causes me to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from the sweat glands on my palm which I can ignite to make explosions," He explained.
Katsuki raised his right arm to reveal a pin on his gauntlet before continuing.
"If they're designed correctly, these gauntlets will store the sweat inside of them…"
Izuku immediately understood the implications as Katsuki placed a finger on the pin and primed the gauntlet.
As it charged up, All Might's voice rang through their earpieces.
"YOUNG BAKUGO STOP! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL HIM?!"
"If I don't hit him directly, he won't die!" Katsuki responded quickly.
With that Katsuki pulled the pin on the gauntlet and a massive explosion was released that rocked the foundations of the building, sending Izuku flying into the next room and blowing a large hole in the side of the building
Izuku had only just managed to get his Smack Hands up in time, but they were severely damaged with several holes and his jacket was badly charred. Pieces of burnt metal started to crumble to the ground before the Smack Hands disassembled entirely. Through the cloud of smoke, Katskui emerged, his left gauntlet glowing red, and a crazed look on his face.
"Get up Nerd. The villains ain't gonna take it easy on ya so why should I?" Katsuki spoke in a mixture of laughter and snarling as he stalked towards Izuku.
Izuku grit his teeth and prepared to fight, when All Might spoke through the earpieces once more.
"YOUNG BAKUGO! IF YOU USE THAT AGAIN, THE FIGHT WILL STOP AND YOUR TEAM WILL LOSE! INVITING DESTRUCTION TO THE AREA YOU ARE TRYING TO PROTECT IS A FOOLISH PLAN FOR BOTH HEROES AND VILLAINS!"
Katsuki growled at the limitations being put upon him.
"Fine! Who needs a support item? My fists are good enough!" He yelled in frustration.
Katsuki rocketed off the mark once more. Izuku built a VB, attempting to launch a kick with his right foot, but Katsuki used his explosions to strafe to Izuku's side and delivered an explosion to his ribcage. Katsuki then grabbed Izuku's left arm and used his free hand to launch an explosion that increased his momentum, enabling him to throw Izuku to the ground. Katsuki was unrelenting as Izuku was down and he released another large explosion, blowing Izuku to the end of the room, his VB on his right foot disassembling as he crashed into a wall. The fight was turning into a mauling.
Izuku's vision was starting to blur as he stood up shakily. He touched the back of his head gingerly and grimaced as a small amount of blood was on his hand. The situation was grim. He was close to his limit. Not only was Katsuki extremely proficient in close-range combat, but he also hadn't accounted for the supreme degree of mobility he was able to exercise in such an enclosed space. Combined with the pure destructive power of his quirk, Izuku was finding it hard to find a scenario in which he would come out on top. At this point, it felt like an inevitable matter of time until Katsuki defeated him. Maybe he could just stall long enough…
No. He wouldn't do that to Melissa. He couldn't leave her in a potential 2v1 situation. He put faith in her that she would do her part, so he had to do the same. He would take down Katsuki here and now!
"You know Katsuki…" Izuku began shakily.
He stood up straight and lowered his goggles.
"You're not the only one full of surprises!" He yelled with conviction.
Izuku activated his Slam Cannon, dug a patch of concrete from the broken wall behind him and fired. The projectile was deflected by an explosion by Katsuki, but the distraction served its purpose as Izuku had already shifted to The Ride and used it to close the space almost instantaneously. He disassembled The Ride and tackled Katsuki and the two landed in a heap on the floor. As Katsuki was priming an explosion from his left, Izuku shifted and straightened his arm to cause a misfire. He then proceeded to flip Katsuki by his arm and used his full strength to slam him on his back.
He quickly formed the right Smack Hand and swung. Katsuki, who was still disoriented as he got up, could only raise his arms to block and the Smack Hand crashed into him, shattering his gauntlets, and sending him flying into the wall. Izuku shifted to the Boogie Pack took off, and launched the turbines at the wall, causing a small explosion around Katsuki which obscured his vision. Dissasembling the Boogie Pack and using the momentum, Izuku flew through the air, built the right Smack Hand once more, and slammed it into Katsuki's body, pinning him to the ground. This time, Katsuki's arms were pinned to his side with his palms facing his body.
Izuku raised the Smack Hand that had Katsuki contained, and with a yell, he slammed him into the ground once more, cracking the floor with the force, rendering Katsuki unconscious. With the fight just barely won, Izuku fell and laid back. His Smack Hand disassembled and he was panting hard. As his vision started to darken, he heard All Might's voice echo over the speakers…
Melissa heard All Might's desperate shout in the earpiece before the entire building shook. What were those two doing?!
She didn't have much time to think as she arrived on the sixth floor and was greeted with a large room. In the middle of the room stood Uraraka, small objects such as crates and loose debris floating and surrounding her. Melissa looked around for the bomb and saw it floating by the ceiling in the far corner of the room.
Deciding to take a frontal approach, she charged at Uraraka who responded by picking up a large rectangular crate that she had made weightless and swinging it at a portion of the debris.
"Sorry Melissa, but you're going to fall to my Comet Home Run!" Uraraka smiled almost innocently as she launched her attack.
The debris went flying toward Melissa and she had to quickly dive behind a pillar to avoid the makeshift missiles. While she was behind the pillar, Melissa charged One For All into both of her little fingers. She emerged from behind the pillar and let off both of them, releasing two shockwaves that forced Uraraka to dive to the side as her ammunition was scattered.
Her fingers hurt and were slightly bruised, but not broken, as she had managed to keep the output relatively low. Ignoring the pain, she sprinted in the direction of the bomb when out of the corner of her eye, she saw a large rock flying towards her at high speeds.
Thinking fast, she charged her right ring finger with One For All and tried her best to keep the output down. The lack of concentration time, however, meant that her control was still sub-par and while she managed to destroy the rock as intended, she had sacrificed her ring finger in the process. She had no time to dwell on this fact as Uraraka appeared behind her.
Melissa tried to pivot and fire off another shockwave but was unable to even charge One For All fully before Uraraka placed a palm on her, instantly making her weightless. Melissa squirmed as the weightless sensation overtook her and she floated helplessly in the air.
Breathing a sigh of relief at her victory, Uraraka smiled as she sifted through her pocket for the capture tape.
"That was fun Melissa. Sorry, but it's over now," She remarked cheerily.
Melissa didn't reply as she was frustrated. She had let Izuku down. She had promised him she would win this. He was relying on her, yet she had failed.
As Uraraka was reaching out to wrap the tape around her, Melissa looked at the floating bomb, when a thought popped into her brain.
She was going to have to steal Katsuki's technique.
Extending her arms backwards, and channelling One For All into her middle fingers, Melissa flicked, creating a current of wind that propelled her in the direction of the bomb. Uraraka was momentarily shocked as the wind knocked her back. She tried to react by making herself weightless and jumping after Melissa, but she was already too far ahead. Repeating the process once more, this time with her index fingers, Melissa was able to launch herself close enough to reach out to the bomb. She placed both hands on it and All Might's voice rang out...
"THE BOMB HAS BEEN SECURED! HERO TEAM WINS!"
Uraraka released her quirk and both the bomb and Melissa fell harmlessly to the ground.
"Dang…I thought I had won…nice moves though Melissa, that was some quick thinking!" She complimented.
Melissa smiled back in response.
"You almost had me. Your creativity with your quirk is amazing. Those attacks you sent towards me were no joke!" Melissa praised back.
"I should say the same about you! If anything, we've already thought of some moves for when we team up! I can literally help you fly!" Uraraka replied giggling at the prospect of teaming up and performing special moves with her friend.
The two started to walk out of the room and down the stairs as they conversed.
"Yeah, that sounds like a plan! Although I need to get a better control of my quirk…" Melissa said, her tone shifting from carefree to a more thoughtful one.
"Yeah…how are your fingers?" Uraraka asked with a hint of concern.
"They're fine overall, I just slipped in concentration once but it's nothing Recovery Girl can't fix – OH MY GOSH!"
Their conversation was interrupted when they reached the fourth floor, both of them gasping at the carnage that they saw.
The entire floor was in ruins. The damage was to the extent that they could clearly see out of the building through the gaping hole in the wall. Shattered glass and debris littered the floor and both Izuku and Katsuki were laid on the ground, seemingly unconscious, as small robots were placing them on stretchers and preparing to take them to Recovery Girl's Office.
The two girls rushed over to them in worry. Upon closer inspection, the two looked to be in bad shape. Izuku had multiple burns and was bleeding, while Katsuki wasn't faring much better, as an ugly bruise was forming on the side of his face. Both of their costumes were wrecked.
"Izuku! Katsuki! Are you okay?" Melissa asked desperately.
A small robot turned to her and responded in their stead.
"Their vitals are normal. They are injured and over-exerted. Our protocol is to escort them to Recovery Girl immediately. Preliminary diagnostic states that they will be back to optimal state after treatment. Please allow us to get by so that we may get them treatment as soon as possible." The robot droned.
The two girls shifted to the side nervously and watched with concern as the robots stretchered Izuku and Katsuki away. They looked at each other worriedly before they made their way back to the observation room and they were greeted by their class.
"That was crazy you guys!" Kirishima gushed with a huge smile on his face.
"Nice moves Melissa, you flew!" Ashido exclaimed excitedly.
"Are Bakugo and Midoriya ok? They were going at it!" Sero asked.
All Might clapped his hands and spoke.
"ALL RIGHT CLASS, LET'S GET ON TO THE REVIEW OF THAT BATTLE. WHO WAS THE MVP OF THIS MATCH?"
Yaoyorozu raised her hand and spoke.
"It was obviously Shield sir. Both Midoriya and Bakugo were too concerned about having their own personal skirmish that caused immense damage and were rendered equally incapacitated. Uraraka was too hesitant to capture Shield due to not acting seriously enough. Furthermore, she should have released her quirk to disrupt Shield's momentum, rather than attempting to chase after her. Shield, on the other hand, stuck to the task and, despite being outclassed by Uraraka in combat, was still able to provide a victory for her team through quick thinking," She answered thoroughly.
"Y-Yes of course…Thank you Young Yaoyorozu"
All Might was taken aback by such an in-depth analysis but quickly composed himself and continued.
"NOW, I WILL DRAW THE TEAMS FOR THE NEXT BATTLE…But try not to cause as much damage as the first…"
The battle trials continued until each team had participated, after which, All Might turned to the class to wrap up the lesson.
"WELL DONE TODAY CLASS! YOU ALL CONTRIBUTED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL FOR YOUR FIRST CLASS! MR AIZAWA WILL REVIEW YOUR PERFORMANCE TOMORROW DURING YOUR HOMEROOM PERIOD! NOW THEN, I MUST BE ON MY WAY! CHANGE AND RETURN…TO YOUR DORMS!"
With that, All Might sprinted off leaving a gust of wind in his wake.
"All Might is so cool!" Kaminari commented, the rest of them agreeing with this sentiment.
"It's a shame he had to leave in such a rush though," Remarked Sato with a hint of disappointment.
"Yeah, but he's All Might, of course, he's gonna be busy!" Responded Kirishima.
With that, the students proceeded to change and return to Heights Alliance Dorm A. As they were relaxing and winding down for the day, around two hours after classes had finished, the doors opened and Izuku and Katsuki walked through. One had a smile, the other was scowling. Both still had a few plasters, but they looked fine overall. They were greeted excitedly by their class, who swarmed them with questions and comments.
"Are you guys ok? That fight was super manly!" Came an excited shout from Kirishima.
"Second day and you guys are already in the hospital. You couldn't wait until after the first week?" Kaminari said dryly.
"That fight was crazy you guys, it looked like you were trying to kill each other!" Mineta commented.
At the back of the crowd stood Melissa who smiled as they walked through.
"I'm glad you're both ok. I swung by Recovery Girl's office to get my fingers patched up after class, but she wouldn't let me see you," She said to them as they stood in front of her.
Izuku blushed slightly and held up his hand while smiling back.
"Thanks, Melissa, Katsuki and I just got caught up in the heat of the moment, but we're all good to go now!" He spoke.
"Tch. Worry bout yourself Blondie," Bakugo scoffed dismissively as he brushed past and trudged off to his room.
They both cast him a smile as he disappeared up the stairs, before turning to each other.
"Wait…you said you had to go to Recovery Girl…Did you lose control of your quirk? Are you ok now?" Izuku asked with a degree of worry in his voice.
Melissa giggled at his concern.
"Yep! It was just one finger that was badly damaged. I really feel that I'm starting to get a grip on how to utilise my quirk though. It's definitely becoming easier to control," She said with a determined look on her face.
Izuku smiled in relief and nodded.
"That's good to hear. And if you need any help or advice, I'm right here," He replied.
Melissa looked at him and smiled widely before a cough drew their attention. Standing to the side was Ashido, once again with a mischievous smirk.
"Something I'm missing here you two?" She asked slyly.
Izuku quickly flushed at the implications and had to turn his head entirely as he nervously stammered incoherently. A light blush dusted Melissa's cheeks she laughed as well.
It had been an eventful second day at U.A.
