Sister's Keeper

Chapter 1
Kara was struggling to focus. William's funeral had been the previous day and now she sat at her desk, just blankly staring at the screen. She was supposed to be writing a story – well it wasn't a story. Miss Grant had told her to write a piece about William, memorializing their colleague and to let the world know that he'd been trying to help a friend when he'd been kidnapped by an enemy of Supergirl.
Her phone rang and she quickly answered it, somewhat hoping for some sort of distraction. She wasn't expecting to hear the voice on the other end of the phone however, at least not this soon.
"Kara…"
"Kate, are you ok?" Her friend sounded exhausted.
"Tatiana did it. She did do something. How, I haven't figured out," the Gothamite admitted.
"What did she do?" The Kryptonian wanted to know.
"She kidnapped my sister, Mary. Luke and Sophie were trying to find her, which is why they were being cagey with me," Kate told her.
"Ok well we know that Tatiana didn't do it herself. She was here. So, she had to have help. Who would help her? She was persona-non-grata with the Many Arms of Death," Kara kept her tone low.
"I don't know who would help her. She's double crossed almost everyone I can think of," Kate was definitely reaching the end of her rope and the blonde's focus shifted completely to her friend and Mary.
"Let me call Brainy. He can do some digging. Have you gotten any demands or anything?" Kara wanted to know.
"No and that worries me. She's been gone for almost a week. There's been no sign of her. The Crows are scrubbing the city's cameras, asking for witnesses, and stepping up patrols everywhere. Luke is scrubbing the other cameras and trying to dive into everything he can think of. It's like Mary just vanished off the face of the planet," Kate said.
"I'm heading to you. We'll get this sorted," the blonde stood from her desk and started grabbing up items she felt she needed.
"I can't ask that of you. Just get…" the words weren't all the way out of her mouth when her friend stopped her.
"You don't have to ask. I'm doing it. See you soon," with that Kara hangs up. Nia has watched the tense exchange from her desk. Getting up from her desk, the human-Naltorian hybrid approaches her friend.
"What's up?" Nia whispers.
"Mary's been kidnapped and Kate is convinced that that was what Tatiana was talking about. I'm heading to Gotham," Kara explained, matching her friend's tone.
"Oh, that's not good. What do you need from me?" Nia wanted to know.
"Get Brainy searching for who could have helped Tatiana. She's burned almost every bridge and Kate can't figure out how this all happened. They're not having any luck with cameras or witnesses," the blonde explained.
"Ok, what else?" Nia asked.
"Be careful. I know you are capable of protecting this city. I just don't want anything to happen to you or the rest of the team while I'm gone," Kara said.
"Don't worry. How are you getting there?" Her friend figured that Kate would be sending the jet.
"SG express," the blonde winked and then headed for the elevator.
"Kira! Where are you going? I want that article out today!" Miss Grant could see her ace reporter leaving from her office. The elder woman left her desk and started to move toward the blonde.
"Family emergency!" Kara replied before picking up the pace and squeezing into the elevator before the doors closed.
