Summary:

Hiccup and the twins flew endlessly through a storm towards the edge after Viggo had sacrificed his life to save Hiccup. The sound of a dragon roar came from behind which all three of the dragon riders glanced back at, only to notice it was a skrill. The dragon came up closer and there was a vague silhouette of a man slumped over its back who had arrows sticking out of his back.

Story:

Hiccup and the twins were flying their way to Dragons Edge after the crazy experience in the caverns of the island where his "dad" found a dragon eye lense. Hiccup kept his head down towards the top of Toothless' head. Toothless warbled at Hiccup to make sure he's okay as he notices the depressing expression on his rider's face.

"I'm okay bud, I'm okay," Hiccup reassures the night fury but it appears that the dragon doesn't believe him as Hiccup is a terrible liar, everyone knows he is.

"You don't look it," Ruffnut spoke, sitting atop of her dragon next to her brother who was on his.

"Wanna tell us what's going on H?" Tuffnut questioned in a tone calmer than usual.

Hiccup knew they wouldn't give up the subject until they got an answer high enough to their standards. Hiccup sighed "I-It's just that after everything we've been through with Viggo it's weird to think that he's dead." Hiccup took a deep breath and continued, "I know it's stupid, I don't understand why I'm grieving him. He's our enemy for Thor's sake! Yet he didn't deserve to die. He still had so much to live for."

Suddenly, there was an explosion from the island they just departed from. In the distance there was a Skrill that Hiccup recognised with a peculiar sight slumped over it's back. "Viggo!" Hiccup yelled in both disbelief and concern. The trio stopped and allowed the Skrill to catch up to them in the storm Viggo coughed a nasty cough that made Hiccup and the twins grimace. Hiccup yelled over to the twins, "Come on we have to get them back to the Edge!" The twins shared a look that meant "we should help him" before flying behind the Skrill as Hiccup manoeuvred Toothless in front of it as they started guiding the duo back to the dragon rider's base.

By the time the Edge was in view the storm had cleared and it was breakfast. The group landed on the landing platform outside of the stables, which was where they were greeted by the other dragon riders.

"VIGGO!" Astrid bellowed sprinting towards Viggo, axe raised and looking as if she was about to brutally murderer the guy.

She would've done it if it wasn't for Hiccup to jump off Toothless from a few feet mid flight and grab her axe before she bought said axe down on the the dragon hunter chief's head.

"ASTRID STOP!" Hiccup exclaimed at his betrothed.

Fishlegs, Astrid and Snotlout all shared a look of bewilderment and stared back at Hiccup.

"He's our enemy! Why would you want to spare his life after all the things he's done to us and a wide range of dragons in numerous archipelagos!?" Snotlout yelled out of confusion.

"Hiccup, I hate to be the one to take sides but Snotlout's right-" Fishlegs spoke before being interrupted.

"Wait I am?!"

"Why would we hesitate to hurt someone that has done a lot more than harm just a few dragons?" Fishlegs finished.

"It's a long story, but it doesn't matter at the moment. Viggo needs our help and I'm not willing to have the constant reminder that I could've helped him and that it would be my fault that he's dead," Hiccup said with a voice full of confidence.

The other riders were mesmerised by how determined Hiccup wanted to help Viggo and immediately set it up the medical equipment that they needed to help Viggo with.

About 10 minutes later, Viggo was in the clubhouse on the table they eat dinner at lying on his stomach. Fishlegs was the healer on dragons Edge so he was doing most of the work whilst Hiccup helped him with the four arrows punctured in his back. Viggo was semi-conscious when the arrows were being removed so the dragon riders had to hold him down.

"Man I wouldn't want to be him right now, this is going to hurt," Snotlout joked and that earned him a punch from Astrid. Fishlegs was in the middle of removing arrows one by one whilst Hiccup is heating a knife ready to cauterize the punctures so it will be ready for stitches and dressing the wound. Hiccup was in charge of stitching the wounds and bandaging them whilst Fishlegs was cleaning the blood off his hands and the knife that was used for the cauterization of the process of treating the wounds. The one-legged Viking noticed that every time he pierced Viggo's flesh with the sharp tip of the needle the man's back tensed from pain and it made him wince seeing his opponent in battle being hurt.

After the countless hours of treating and bandaging Viggo's wounds to an acceptable state, he was resting on a pile of furs on the floor of Hiccup's loft where he and Toothless can make sure Viggo is healing nicely. Hiccup and his friends were on the main floor of the hut discussing about what they should do Viggo once he's fully recovered.

"We could put him in prison,'' Astrid suggested, grinning.

"What? No. Even after everything he's done he doesn't deserve it. If we did to him what he did to us then we would be no better and than he is." Hiccup explained to the people around him.

"Hiccup's right you guys," Fishlegs admitted.

"What happened to not taking sides!?" Snotlout yelled feeling betrayed.

"Viggo is trying to change you guys," Hiccup argued.

"What makes you think that Hiccup!?" Snotlout said needing a reason for what the one legged Viking said to him.

Hiccup sighed getting irritated by Snotlout "Remember Dagur? He was deranged and berserk and we thought he couldn't change, Heather said it herself, yet he managed to prove us wrong and now he's our ally. So who knows, maybe Viggo could change for the better," Hiccup said with confidence.

"Fine we'll do it your way, for now" Astrid gave in.

"That's all I needed to hear," Hiccup kissed her on the lips whilst Snotlout was pretending to vomit all of his breakfast on the ground.

2 weeks later hiccup and the other riders were gathered at the landing platform outside of the stables saying their farewells to Viggo. Hiccup walks up to him where he sits on his Skrill, they have made quite a bond in the last couple of weeks.

"Hiccup?" Viggo asked hiccup before the boy could even speak a word.

"Yeah?" the one-legged Viking responds.

"Just so you know, if you ever need help in this war with Krogan and Johan, don't hesitate to send a Terror-mail understand? Viggo asks the boy.

Hiccup nods with a smile on his lips.

"Farewell dragon riders, Someday we shall meet again,'" the man spoke before taking off into the sunset with his new companion.
