Authoress' Notes: Hello, I'm baaaaack. I'm glad this little thought-doodle of a story is well-received!

Todoroki-kun to Koi no Yamai

[7]

"No more..." Kagome's voice was muffled against the cafeteria table. The defeated teen's head was down amongst her arms that were folded into a cradle. It was her tired response to her classmates' newest rounds of suggestions for getting closer to Shouto. It had been days since the fiasco with her homemade cookies. Today would be her fourth attempt at delivering a bag of confections to her crush.

Every time she aimed at offering a bag of affection to Shouto, the universe seemed to send a signal that it was a no-go. The first time, she caved to the pressure of her classmates. Unable to face Shouto with slim pickings, she ended up offering the leftovers to Izuku, Ochaco, and Tenya; it was a complete loss.

The second time, she decided to get to school early and ambush him at the entrance. Just before Kagome got Shouto's attention, a rogue seagull swooped down and made off with the entire bag. A few moments later, the loosely wrapped ribbon came loose and the seagull proceeded to rain cookies on unsuspecting students—all except for Shouto. That was another loss.

The third time was just yesterday. Kagome attempted to pass off her treats during the transition to lunch. Somehow, her shoulder ended up being bumped by the broader and bulky Katsuki Bakugo, and she lost grip on the bag. It landed on the classroom floor with a soft crunch. It was promptly stepped on and crushed by another passing student. It was not only another loss but a crushing defeat in the literal sense.

"It's like fate is trying to tell me to give up," She muttered as she was surrounded by a gloomy, dark blue aura.

"I know but you can't give up, Kagome-chan!" Toru countered with much enthusiasm.

"Don't worry," Kagome lifted her head to reveal a gentle smile, "I'm not giving up. I just think I should try a different approach."

"That might be a good idea," Momo speculated, "Your progress with Todoroki-kun is slower than expec—. Oh!" She blushed and daintily covered her mouth with her hand.

"It's okay, Momo-chan," Kagome chuckled, albeit awkwardly, "You're not wrong so I'm not offended."

"That's our, Kago-rin~!" Mina cheered as she wrapped her arm around Kagome's shoulder and pulled her close. "So optimistic, even in the face of utter failure!"

Kagome sweatdropped and wondered if that remark was supposed to be a compliment.

Love definitely wasn't a game at this point. It was war. Kagome figured that she would have to restrategize. As her supporters bounced more ideas off of each other, Kagome smiled, despite feeling drained. 'Maybe,' She considered as she glanced up at the ceiling thoughtfully, 'Maybe I'll just let things happen naturally.'
