A/N: I should have mentioned in the last chapter - Marie comes from 2 of my oneshots - Family and To Be Human. I hope you enjoyed this story. Be on the lookout for a new one this upcoming week.

Chapter 39

In the morning, Alex said goodbye to the group along with Nyssa. They would be meeting Kara down at the airport in just a little bit. J'onn had flown back to National City to help M'gann after the capture of Natasha and everyone there was waiting for them.

It was decided that the former leader of the League of Assassins needed to heal before trying to get involved in fighting crime. Given everything the city had been through and the increased presence of ARGUS, criminals would probably think twice before they tried anything. That and once Wonder Woman made herself known, most would be laying off the crime committing.

Last night's phone call to Layla had been fruitful. The leader of ARGUS relayed that all the agents injured in the attempt to get Natasha were out of the woods and were beginning their recovery. They had leads on the group that had worked with Mary and the hypnotist, Rebecca Burke. The original intention was to keep the leads in house at ARGUS, but Layla realized that those in the wind were in a weird place. Organizations like the Many Arms of Death would not take them back. They no longer had their own leader and in order to hide from the law, they'd scatter to the wind. So, the leads were shared with the FBI and the rest of ARGUS. A country-wide alert was now out. It could no longer be contained.

Kate had cringed at that thought and knew that her father would be upset. Almost on cue she'd gotten a phone call from her father not long after Alex and Nyssa had left. She excused herself and that meant that Kara and Diana were alone in the living room.

"How are you?" Diana knew that the Kryptonian had been through a lot before travelling to Gotham.

"I'm who I need to be," Kara gave her a slight smile. She felt as though she'd let Kate down. Here she was leaving and Mary was still missing.

"Supergirl but bringing Kara along. Do not worry, little one. I will help Kate. Mary will be found," Diana had the utmost confidence.

"What will she be like when she returns? She somehow fooled J'onn," Kara told her.

"He warned me about that. Mary had been in a vulnerable position. Her mother had just died in front of her. While Kate and her father were there for her, it wasn't the same. You know about that. So, when Pike came along, she was susceptible to being tricked. Once his hooks were into her, it was easy to get Rebecca Burke to hypnotize her. It does not make her weak or dumb. She was looking for something to plug a hole," Diana said. Kara nodded. She knew exactly what the Amazon meant.

"Well, that was fun," Kate said, emerging from her bedroom.

"I will talk to your father. He's down at Crow Headquarters, correct?" Diana asked.

"That would be his second home," Kate nodded. Diana nodded and turned to Kara,

"Safe flight little one. Please keep me posted."

"Thanks and I will," the blonde promised. With that Diana left the apartment, leaving the two friends alone.

"I should be on my way, I guess. I…" Kara paused.

"Hey, I know what you're thinking. Don't. We saved a lot of people and I still have help saving Gotham. We've got lots of people looking for Mary. I can't be selfish. National City needs you. Poor Marie sounds like she needs you too," Kate said.

"She helped me before I met you. I need to help her but know that I'm with you and if you need me, I'll be here," Kara smiled. She hated to leave her friend like this.

"Go before I get all mushy on you," the brunette teased. Kara gave her a gentle hug and then left the apartment. There was another mission to handle and this one was left in very capable hands. Kara only hoped that both Mary and Marie could be found before anything more could happen to them.
