A/N: This chapter isn't as long as I wanted it to be, but I couldn't find a good ending point, so here we are. Feel free to leave your suggestions for potential future servants in your reviews. If they tickle my fancy, I may very well utilize them in the story.
Now onto some reviews.
Otsutsuki no Yami: Won't lie to you. That's a pretty neat idea. Not sure if I'll do it in Part 1 though. Part 2? Well, you'll just have to see.
UmbraVenator : Yeah, I'm trying to round them out more without making them too busted. Hopefully I'm doing a good job at that.
And with those out of the way, let us get into the chapter, shall we?
Assassin liked her new Mommy. Sure, he could be a bit goofy, but his heart was in the right place. He never scolded her and he even let her snuggle with him in bed. He gave her food and gave her head pats even when she didn't ask for them! He was also cool. He could make clones of himself and his ambition to be Hokage so that people acknowledge him really resonated with her. He wanted to be better than he was. To rise above the public's perception of him. That strength of character. That determination. It was something she never had. Something the multitudes of her never had. If her Mommy had been in her situation, he wouldn't have given up. He'd have kept fighting. He'd have won!
And that's why he already had her loyalty. And a servant's loyalty could be hard to earn depending on the servant in question. Just having a contract didn't ensure trust. But her Mommy had definitely earned that trust. That said, he seemed a little bit clueless about being a Master. She may not be the most intelligent or mature servant, but she could tell that he was going in blind. He clearly knew what it meant to be a Shinobi, but not what it meant to be a Master. And it irked her that she didn't know a good way to explain it to him. She wasn't smart like a Caster or keen like an Archer. She just knew how to dispatch her Mommy's enemies.
She could only hope that someone came along that could spell it out to him. Someone who knew what it meant to be a Master. Perhaps she could convince him to try summoning someone else? But would that be wise? Her Mommy had more than enough chakra to sustain her, but she wasn't sure if he could handle two at the moment. It was so irksome! Why couldn't she have been a Magus in life? That would make this so much easier!
The fact that this was an entirely different power system compared to what she was used to only made it worse. She knew there were similarities, but without in-depth knowledge of how the two correlated, she was pretty much as clueless as her Mommy was.
She puffed her cheeks and slurped on her milk through a straw with an aggression that could only be described as adorable from another's perspective. The reason she was so concerned about this was because there was one fundamental thing missing. Command Seals. And because of that, neither her Mommy or her knew how to do two very important things. That being summon her to his side and empower her with more chakra.
And if she wanted to use her Noble Phantasm, that second one was very important indeed.
She groaned and allowed her forehead to thunk against the table. She was just going to get a headache from all of this thinking. Maybe she was worrying for nothing. Maybe it'd all work out.
"Hey, Assassin!" Her Mommy said as he entered the small kitchen, interrupting her thoughts. "Are you ready to get going?"
"Jack," she replied automatically.
"Huh?"
"Our name is Jack" because he had earned the right to know her name. And so did the rest of Team Seven, for that matter.
"Ooooh, Jack? Can I call you Jackie?"
Now that made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. He was a great Mommy after all. "Yes, we like Jackie!" she exclaimed with a smile.
Jack had faced many things in her time as a servant. But the monster before her. It was a true evil. She was halfway convinced it was a Divine Beast of some sort, because no matter how fast she ran, she could not catch it.
Yes. The being she was facing was none other than the devilish Tora! It was the capture target on the D-Rank Mission that Team Seven had been assigned and as Naruto's summon, she was allowed to participate. But this Cat. This thing. It was fast. It was powerful. And she was fairly certain that if it died, it would become the greatest Heroic Spirit of all time.
"Don't run from us!" she shouted as she dove for it and caught it, only for it to swipe at her face, eliciting a hiss of pain from her as it leapt from her arms and darted away at speeds not even she could follow.
"That's the cat from hell!" she shouted, actually utilizing a swear word, something she rarely did. It seemed that one of her more unruly souls was getting particularly frustrated with this mission.
"I've got her, Jackie!" Her Mommy said as he ran from the opposite direction. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Two clones of him materialized and they all jumped at the cat, only for the ferocious fearsome feline to zigzag through them, causing them to all collide into each other, leading to the clones dispersing with a poof of smoke.
"Correction," he groaned as he lay on his back. "I definitely do not have her."
"Hmph, how unsightly" came the voice of the resident Uchiha and someone that Jack didn't quite know how to feel about yet. He landed in front of the cat just as it made a break for the nearby forest. "You can't escape my eyes."
That's when Jack realized that Sasuke's eyes were no longer black, but red with a single tomoe. Since when did that happen?
Kakashi nearly fell out of the tree he was observing them from. "Did he seriously just unlock the Sharingan from the trauma Tora inflicted upon him?!"
Then he groaned. Now he didn't have an excuse anymore. He actually had to train them. That's if they ever managed to catch Tora.
Sasuke could see better than ever before. Everything was in perfect clarity. The cat, who before he could not even track, was practically moving in slow motion. And Jack, Naruto's Servant, she was quite peculiar. He could see a faint aura around her. One that was different from everyone else. Was that due to her nature as a servant?
Even so, he forced himself to calm down. If anything, he was lucky this happened now. If this happened during a serious battle, the rush of emotions he was experiencing might have just spelled his doom. A Shinobi had to keep a calm mind at all times. Sure, he may want to kill Itachi. But having a goal and being consumed by hatred were two different things. He was not his brother. He did not need hate to become powerful. Admittedly, with how cold he was and how unstable he could be at times, it would be reasonable if someone mistook him for being driven entirely by hate. But that wasn't true. He was driven by anger, yes. Grief, most definitely. But not hate.
Don't get him wrong. Hate was a tantalizing prospect. He knew just how much power it could grant an Uchiha. But if he gave into it. If he let it all go. He'd be proving Itachi right. And he refused to give that traitor the satisfaction.
But he could worry more about that later. He had a cat to catch. He turned to face it, only to go a bit slack jawed when he realized Sakura was holding it in her arms, casually petting it.
Against his better judgment, he let out a bewildered "How?"
She turned toward him and smiled. "Because I own a cat, dummy. They aren't that hard to handle."
His Sharingan deactivated and he slowly ran a hand down his face. How could he have been so stupid? He used to own a cat himself! And yet, here he was engaging this mission like a Shinobi and not a cat owner. He wanted to go dig a hole, jump in it and die.
"Way to go, Sakura!" Naruto cheered. "I knew you were the brains of this operation."
And now Sasuke just felt offended.
But he had no leg to stand on, so he just remained silent.
At that moment, Kakashi appeared, sporting his signature eye smile.
"Good work, Team!"
And to Sasuke's immense satisfaction, Jack kicked the Jonin in the shin.
"You didn't do anything!"
"Maa," Kakashi said, holding his hands up in a placating gesture. "I was your moral support."
No one commented on the fact that Kakashi's right leg was shaking. Jack must have some serious power hidden in that small frame of hers.
The next day, Kakashi stared at the expectant faces of his students + one Jack and sighed internally. He hadn't intended on actually teaching them advanced Ninjutsu yet. Call him a bit overprotective, but he wanted to baby them for a bit more. Could you blame him? Death followed him wherever he went and the last thing he wanted to do was risk the safety of his beloved new team. But with their growth frankly surpassing his expectations, he was left with no choice. He had to put on his big boy pants and take things seriously.
"First things first," he said as he stuck his right hand in his pouch and fished out some chakra paper. "We're going to find out what your element is."
He passed them out to his three students. "All you have to do is channel your chakra into them. If you have Wind, it will cut the paper in two. If you have Fire, it will burn it to ashes. Water will soak it, Earth will crumble it and Lightning will crinkle it. Give it a try."
Sasuke was up first and his paper crinkled before setting alight. "Hn. Two effects?"
Kakashi nodded, internally impressed at Sasuke's affinity for two elements. "You have the primary affinity for Lightning and the secondary affinity for Fire. Jutsus belonging to those elements will come easier to you."
Naruto came next and his paper split in half before crumbling to dust.
Kakashi's visible eye widened. Naruto had a dual affinity too?!
"Good job, Naruto. You have a primary affinity for Wind and a secondary affinity for Earth."
Naruto pumped his fist. "Alright! One step closer to becoming Hokage, 'ttebayo!"
As for Sakura's, hers both crumbled and became soaked, ending up a mushy mess.
Three. All three of his students had dual affinities. He was raising a bunch of monsters.
"Sakura, you have a primary affinity for Earth and a secondary affinity for Water. Honestly. You three are crazy. Just having one affinity is pretty crazy. But two? You guys should be proud."
Sasuke looked a little arrogant. Sakura looked sheepish but proud and Naruto looked like a goofball.
It felt like he was staring at the next generation of the Sannin. Now wasn't that a scary thought?
"So, when do we get to learn?" Naruto asked as he placed his hands behind his head. "I bet you know all sorts of cool jutsu, Kakashi-sensei!"
He held up his hand. "Not so fast, Naruto. You can't learn Elemental Jutsu without having proper chakra control. And that's why I'm going to teach you how to walk up trees and walk on water."
They stared at him in utter silence until Jack piped up with "Cool!"
It was clear they had no idea what he was talking about.
How were these kids so talented yet didn't know you could walk up vertical surfaces and across water? What the heck was the academy teaching them? Has it been teaching them at all?
He could only sigh.
He had a lot of work to do.
