This is Chapter 3 of my X-Men Story that takes place in the X-Men Animated Series Universe and my own few additions. Hope you enjoy. And do go back and check out the previous chapter first if you missed it.
FADE IN:
TITLE CARD: "REUNITING"
SCENE: RECONCILIATION; HIGH ABOVE CENTRAL PARK IN MANHATTAN AT ABOUT 2 AM IN THE MORNING.
Quantum is floating above Central Park and has a blank look on his face.
QUANTUM
(Thoughts to himself)
I've been searching for her for a week. Where could she be? I cannot lose her again.
We see a flashback of the "reunion" between Quantum and Emma Frost from the "Dark Phoenix" episode. Quantum feels his face; still scarred from Emma's brutal attack on him.
QUANTUM
I will find her! I…
Quantum suddenly feels himself becoming very heavy and falling towards the roof of the famous Belvedere Castle. Quantum creates a layer of energy underneath him to cushion the impact. After he hits, he sees a shadowy figure through the dust now in the air. It was her!
EMMA
You need to stay away from me! Feel lucky that I am letting you go with just that nasty beating I gave you; especially considering what you took from me.
QUANTUM
Emma, I did not kill your family!
EMMA
LIAR! I know it was you! Shaw showed me! Only you could have known that my whole family was there! You were the only one that could…
QUANTUM
What about Shaw? He was the one that told me that you were dead along with your family. I died that day. You are the most important person in my life. Emma, I have and forever will love you. I will stop at nothing to make you see that. So, either you read my mind right now to see I am telling the truth, or you kill me right here and now. I won't stop you either way.
Emma face is now one of doubt. She seems unsure and hesitates. Tears begin to fall down her cheeks.
EMMA
(Thoughts to herself)
I have been blinded by rage towards him for so long, that I never stopped to consider the fact that Shaw was there waiting for me.
(Now out loud to Quantum)
Stand UP!
Emma grabs both sides of Quantum's head as she says this and painfully pulls him to his feet. She begins to read his mind. She sees the scene from "Origins" when Shaw lied to Quantum of Emma and her family's deaths. She then let's go and staggers backwards. Now uncontrollably crying, Emma falls to her knees and begins to cry into her white gloved hands. Quantum runs to her and embraces her. She returns the favor, as she looks up at him.
EMMA
I am so sorry! All these years wasted hating you!
QUANTUM
It is not your fault Emma. You were deceived by Shaw. We both were.
EMMA
You're right. I need to confront him!
Emma quickly let's go of Quantum, jumps down off the roof of the castle to a mini jet that has just uncloaked, and then enters it and flies away. Quantum begins to fly after her.
QUANTUM
EMMA! WAIT!
END SCENE
SCENE: "ARRIVAL"
Quantum watches Emma's jet land on a run-down old building in East Harlem and he lands next to her as she presses a hidden button next to a door.
QUANTUM
Emma, wait! What is this place? We need to confront Shaw together. He will never willingly let you go.
EMMA
I will not give him a choice if he is as guilty as I believe he is.
The door opens revealing it is an elevator. Quantum tries to board the elevator with Emma, but she uses her telekinetic abilities to push him backwards.
EMMA
Thanks to my encounter with the Dark Phoenix, I am more powerful than I used to be. You are the first one besides me to know that. I promise you Shaw is no longer a mental match for me!
The elevator's doors shut, and Quantum is left on the roof alone.
QUANTUM
Sorry Emma but I can't with good conscious let you go in there alone.
Quantum pushes the same button Emma did. A few moments later the elevator arrives again.
END SCENE
SCENE: CONFRINTATION, INSIDE THE HELLFIRE CLUB'S SECRET HIDEAWAY BENEATH EAST HARLEM.
The elevator doors open and luckily for Quantum there is no one guarding the entrance. He sneaks to the only other door which is slightly ajar. He peeks into the room and sees Emma impatiently waiting there. He decides to wait and listen to her conversation with the Hellfire Club.
EMMA
Shaw get out here! We need to talk.
SHAW
My dear, why are you so angry with me? I did nothing wrong.
EMMA
I will be the judge of that! Tell me what happened to my family.
SHAW
Your family? We have been over this before. That X-Men whelp Quantum, your former "lover" Mitchel, killed them all and destroyed your home in the Hamptons.
EMMA
STOP LYING! I read ran into Mitchel tonight in Central Park.
Shaw gets a worried look on his face.
SHAW
So, you will take his word over mine? I took you in in your time of need. For the past eleven years I and the Hellfire Club have cared for you.
EMMA
Then let me read your mind, so I can see if you are telling the truth.
Shaw hesitates. He realizes that now there is just him and Emma alone in this small room. The rest of the Hellfire Club were arrested after their confrontation with the X-Men at the Hellfire Mansion.
SHAW
I guess, there is no sense in dragging this out. I killed your parents, Emma! I destroyed your home and framed your precious boyfriend!
EMMA
(Crying and furious)
How could you! I have trusted you for all these years!
SHAW
(Coldly)
Quite easily my dear. I wanted you for the Hellfire Club, so I created a tragedy that would make you blindly follow me. You were quite gullible despite being an incredibly strong telepath.
EMMA
YOU MONSTER!
Emma finally realizes how evil Shaw and the Hellfire Club is. She then gathers herself and stares menacingly at Shaw. She holds her hand out to use her telepathic powers on him but instead she feels a sharp pain inside her head. She screams and falls to her knees. She is out of breath from the pain.
SHAW
You see I knew you might discover the truth one day; so, when you were asleep one night, I had Mastermind insert a chip into your brain. You were too much of a wreck from the loss of your parents to realize you were in one of his illusions. You thought it was just a dream. As I said, the Hellfire Club always gets what it wants. Tomorrow the other members will return, and we will make an example out of you!
QUANTUM
(As he rushes into the room)
Not if I can help it, you sick monster!
Quantum's energy punch is easily absorbed by Shaw. His mutant abilities make him invulnerable to any attack but that of the mind. He redirects Quantum's own energy back at him, sending Quantum flying across the room and slamming into the wall, cracking it.
SHAW
Foolish boy your abilities cannot harm me. You too will serve as an example of what happens to those who defy the Hellfire Club!
But Shaw was not paying attention to Emma, who had turned into the diamond form and slashed him on the back of his head. Shaw screams and falls to the floor bleeding. Emma quickly reverts to her human form and helps Quantum to the door.
SHAW
Well, it has come to this.
Emma turns herself and Quantum back towards Shaw.
SHAW
Walk out that door Emma Frost and never return. You are banished from the Hellfire Club. But one day you will pay for betraying us.
QUATUM
No Shaw. You should feel lucky Emma doesn't kill you here and now. I will find a way to remove that chip of yours. If you ever dare to try and come after Emma again, you'll regret it.
Shaw stares blankly as Quantum and Emma turns to the elevator. He shudders as Emma confidently stares into his soul as the elevator doors close.
END SCENE
SCENE: FUTURE; ATOP THE HIDDEN HELLFIRE CLUB BUILDING.
EMMA
Now what? I have nothing left in my life.
QUANTUM
What are you saying? You have me! You still have our dream we had together. Do you remember?
EMMA
My teaching? But where? The reputation I have as a member of the Hellfire Club will destroy any hope of that.
QUANTUM
You need to come with me and become a member of the X-Men. Your abilities will make you one of the best teachers to ever work at Professor Xavier's school.
EMMA
An X-Man? There is no way they would let me into the X-Men after what I helped the Hellfire Club do to Jean Grey.
QUANTUM
It's true that it will take you some time to gain the trust of the other X-Men, but you will have me supporting you 200%.
Tears begin to form as Emma lovingly looks at Quantum.
EMMA
(Regaining her seriousness)
Quantum, huh? That is what the other X-Men called you. Did you tell them the origin of that?
QUANTUM
Of course, I did. I could never stop talking about you!
EMMA
Okay, don't get all sentimental on me.
Quantum laughs and smiles at her.
QUATUM
Trust me, before you know it, you'll be a full-fledged X-Man! I can't tell you how happy I am to have you back in my life.
EMMA
(Turning to her now uncloaked Jet; sarcastically)
I know! I'm kind of hard to match but let's get going!
She gets in the jet and takes off.
QUANTUM
You haven't changed a bit.
Quantum begins to fly and leads Emma's jet off into the distance towards the X-Mansion.
