This is Chapter 5 of my X-Men Story that takes place in the X-Men Animated Series Universe and my own few additions. Hope you enjoy. And do go back and check out the previous chapters first if you missed them.
FADE IN:
TITLE CARD: "RESCUE MISSION"
SCENE: "TAKE OFF"; FANTASTIC FOUR HANAGR AT JFK AIRPORT, JAMAICA, QUEENS, NEW YORK.
The X-Men and The Fantastic Four meet up with Moira MacTaggert from the MacTaggert Research Center on Muir Island (just off the coast of Scotland).
PROFESSOR X
Moira, so glad you could come.
MOIRA
Anything for you, Charles. I just hope that we can be of help.
The other X-Men are shocked to see Kevin MacTaggert (Proteus). Proteus had one time come very close to killing all the X-Men, if Moira had not come to their aide.
QUANTUM
(Cautiously)
Hi Kevin. How's it going?
PROTEUS
Good, thanks to Banshee and my mother, I have a much better time controlling my powers. Oh, and Morph wanted me to tell Wolverine hello. Where is he?
CYCLOPS
Off doing who knows what as usual.
PROTEUS
Too bad. Oh well. Shall we…
HUMAN TORCH
(Whispering (as they walk to the hangar))
Why are you guys nervous about this Kevin Guy?
EMMA FROST
(Also whispering)
I was curious about that too.
QUANTUM
Because he can bend reality even more than Scarlet Witch. He made me think that Gambit was a Sentinel. I almost vaporized him. Honestly if Kevin loses control, he might be the most dangerous person in the universe. At that time, he was just crazed and trying to find his birth father. Still, let's hope he stays on our side.
The Thing, Emma Frost, and The Human Torch stop walking for a moment as they are stunned by the description of Proteus's powers. Quantum notices this and motions them to continue walking. They tentatively do.
THE THING
(Whispering)
Don't say anything stupid Johnny.
END SCENE
SCENE: "RETREVIAL"; SOMEWHERE IN THE OUTTER PART OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM ABORD THE FANTASTIC FOUR'S SPACESHIP.
CYCLOPS
How can we be sure that this will work Professor?
PROFESSOR X
Proteus is our only hope to separate Kitty from that missile. I doubt Scarlet Witch would be receptive to us.
THE THING
Yeah, the daughter of Magneto is not really a good alternative.
EMMA FROST
Shush! I am trying to concentrate. This connection I have is very feint. Turn here Reed.
MR. FANTASTIC
Okay, but that should take us right to Jupiter.
EMMA FROST
That's it! She is in Jupiter somewhere!
COLOSSUS
Kitty! Kitty! Where is she?!
QUANTUM
Calm down Peter, we'll find her.
EMMA FROST
There in… The Big Red Spot? Oh my; just how can we get her out of a hurricane bigger than the entire Earth?
PROTEUS
Leave that to me. Although someone is going to have to be out there with me. That way we can quickly get a spacesuit on Kitty once I separate her from the storm and the missile.
MOIRA
I am so proud of ya for doing this Kevin!
Kevin smiles wryly at his mother.
CYCLOPS
That could be a problem. We only have one spacesuit.
INVISIBLE WOMEN
Reed, where are the other three suits?
MR. FANTASTIC
Good Question. Johnny?
HUMAN TORCH
Why does everyone assume it was me? I didn't do it.
THE THING
Uh… I put them in the lockers at the hangar when I was getting this ship ready. It was dirty.
HUMAN TORCH
Good job big guy.
THE THING
I'll big guy you!
INVISIBLE WOMAN
Oh Ben, it's okay but that still leaves us with no way to save Kitty.
Colossus stares at Jupiter out the window as he begins to cry.
COLOSSUS
Even in my Metal Form I still need to breathe.
PROTEUS
Actually, only the new X-Man here can be the one. Without her next to me. I won't be able to manipulate Kitty out of the missile and the storm. She has a psychic bond with her, right?
EMMA FROST.
That is right; I am Emma Frost by the way.
QUANTUM
Do you need to breathe in you diamond form Emma?
EMMA FROST
(Pondering)
I don't know. I have never tried that, but I've got to try.
QUANTUM
NO! I just got you back. I can't lose you again!
EMMA FROST
By the time we come back, she'll be even farther out. I can sense the missile about to be thrown out of the hurricane. My connection to her is getting weaker by the second. If we leave now, we'll never save her.
QUANTUM
But…
EMMA FROST
It is okay. You saved me. My life now is to teach and help others. Kitty needs me to save her now.
As Quantum begins to cry, Emma changes to her diamond form.
COLOSSUS
Thank you for doing this. Possibly sacrificing yourself for me and Kitty.
Emma nods her head. And walks towards the airlock, followed by Proteus. The ship continues to fly closer to Jupiter.
MR. FANTASTIC
This is as close as I can get without Jupiter's gravity pulling us in.
Sue Storm tearfully and quietly pushes the button for the airlock with Emma and Proteus on the other side. Everyone rushes to the nearest window, holding their breath hoping that they don't just see Emma floating away. Luckily, the accident at Genosha (that Emma had gained her diamond form from when she was a teenager) came through. In this form, Emma does not need to eat, drink, or apparently breathe. The adamantine luster protects her from all elements. However, her diamond form negates her telepathy. Proteus and Emma must fly extremely close to the hurricane without Emma being able to precisely locate the missile Kitty is stuck in. At the last moment Proteus senses Kitty. Slowly a small part of the hurricane opens, and Proteus's powers pull the missile out. The task of separating Kitty proves very taxing on Proteus. Emma reacts fast enough to save Kitty by getting the spacesuit on her. She also bravely flies a bit further to stop the now unconscious Proteus from being pulled onto the planet. She carries him back to the ship as the line on the spacesuit is successfully retracted to the ship.
END SCENE
SCENE: "RETURN"; THE FANTASTIC FOUR'S SPACESHIP AS IT FLIES BACK TO EARTH.
The Fantastic Four's spaceship escaped just in time before Jupiter's gravity reactivated as Proteus's power got farther away. But he and Emma Frost had successfully separated Kitty Pryde from the planet and the missile. She was miraculously alive but unconscious.
COLOSSUS
How is she, Professor? Can I see her?
PROFESSOR X
She is not awake, Peter but yes you can go see her.
Colossus walks into the small room where Kitty lies on the cot there. Moments later he is surprised by Kitty moving.
SHADOWCAT
(Opening her eyes)
Uhhh…
COLOSSUS
Kitty, you're awake!
SHADOWCAT
Peter? Where am I? How am I alive?
COLOSSUS
(As Emma enters the room)
We saved you. Miss Frost here was able to sense you.
SHADOWCAT
Amazing your telepathy must be stronger than Professor Xavier's.
EMMA FROST
(Blushing)
I don't know about that but I'm just glad that I could help save you.
The spaceship now begins to land back on Earth. The other X-Men and Banshee are waiting for the spaceship as it lands and rolls back into the Fantastic Four's hangar. Kitty aided by Colossus slowly walks down the steps to great applause; as Professor X and Colossus tell the X-Men how Kitty was saved. They all turn to see Emma Frost walking down the shuttle's steps with Kevin MacTaggert.
WOLVERINE
Emma, I may have given you a hard time but after what you just did, not anymore. Welcome to the X-Men kid.
Emma politely (bust still a bit smugly) smiles and appears relieved to have won Wolverine's respect. Then out of nowhere with a sudden burst of strength, Shadowcat leaves Colossus's side, runs back towards the shuttle, and embraces Emma and Proteus.
SHADOWCAT
Thank you both so much for saving my life!
EMMA FROST
(Shocked)
It was nothing…
PROTEUS
It was the least we could do for you after you saved the entire Earth.
SHADOWCAT
(Realizing that she had saved the Earth)
WOW! I really did, didn't I. Just like a real X-Man!
CYCLOPS
You are certainly no student anymore, Kitty.
The Fantastic Four, Moira, Proteus, and Banshee return with the X-Men to the X-Mansion for one last feast before the students return from break.
EMMA FROST
Wait until the students get a load of their new teacher!
Everyone laughs and for once, all seems to be well.
END SCENE
SCENE: "NOTHING IS EVER SAFE"; A WEARHOUSE SOMEWHERE IN NEW YORK CITY.
A mysterious machine stands idly in the creepy, dimly lit warehouse. A lone short, bald man waits patiently in an empty part of the warehouse. He smiles coyly as a mysterious purple light engulfs the warehouse and an ominous but familiar laugh is heard echoing through this light.
