Brass had finally been persuaded to go home and get a few hours of decent sleep before he had to work, and Greg had followed suit not long after when Nick returned. Catherine had been in and out all day, occasionally pulling out her laptop to work. She had just come back with dinner not long ago, and despite the circumstances was enjoying spending time with Nick again. She filled him in on her efforts so far to locate Grissom.
"Catherine, you did what?" Nick asked, surprised.
"I called the lawyers and when they told me they didn't have his phone number I asked how they contacted him. When they said they had his email address, I asked them to send him an email requesting payment for services. Look, even if he ignores all of us, he won't ignore his lawyer. And hopefully he will get in touch with them and they can tell him to get his ass back here."
"How did you convince them to do that?" He asked, knowing most lawyers weren't keen to play these types of games.
"Nick, I work for the FBI. That tends to make people listen." She said with a shrug. "I've also got someone trying to track down his boat. But it's a big ocean and even the group he's working for doesn't know where he was headed. I spoke to his group coordinator, too, and told him that Grissom needed to get back here. Hopefully someone can find him."
"Wow. You pulled out the big guns." He said, clearly impressed.
"Yup. And it means I get first dibs on kicking his ass." She replied with an attempt at a smile.
"I think there's a lot of us who would fight you for that."
"Yes, I imagine that's true right now" DB told her as he entered the room. "Catherine, nice to see you again, but it's a shame it's under these circumstances. How's our girl doing?"
"No change." Nick answered. "But as you heard, Catherine is trying to find Grissom at least."
"Yes, I did. And what can we do for Sara in the meantime?" he asked.
"I don't know that there's anything we can do right now. Just make sure someone's with her in case she wakes up." Nick said. "And hope the doctors figure out what's going on."
"That sounds like a good plan. Unfortunately, the fine citizens of Las Vegas don't seem inclined to cut back on crime even when one of our own is down, so we may need to take turns. You already had tonight off, Nick, so you're it for tonight. Greg can take tomorrow and then we'll take it from there. Catherine, how long are you in town for?"
"I've cleared it with my boss, I'm ok to work anywhere I can take my laptop for at least a week or two. I still have the house, my mom has been living there, so I'm all set."
"Good. Good. Well I'll head be off then, but let me know if there's any change. Or anything that Sara needs." DB gave a nod to Nick and Catherine, and bent down to whisper in Sara's ear. "You get some rest, but we need you back sooner rather than later."
DB arrived early to the lab and took a quick trip to visit Archie.
"Good work on tracing Sara's phone yesterday." He started. "I was just wondering if you could tell if it's still in the same location as yesterday. It hasn't turned up." Archie turned around, somewhat startled by his boss's quiet and early appearance.
"Yeah, all good. Just give me a minute." He said, turning to one of the many monitors set up around the room. He typed for a moment and a map popped up on the screen. "It's still showing as at her house." He confirmed. "I can't be any more precise than that unfortunately. Do we know how Sara's doing?"
"If it's a quiet night I'll send Morgan or Greg over to look for her phone. Nick and Catherine are with her for now, but she hasn't woken up yet. Now, I was also wondering if you could possibly bring up the call log for us? Or get the number she called the morning of that case with the girls we found at the rave a couple months ago?" DB asked.
"Uh yup. You're hoping to get Grissom's number?" Archie asked.
"Yes, we've been having some trouble getting ahold of him." DB explained. "And he would probably want to know what's going on." Archie had opened a new program, and was typing in the necessary information.
"I don't need to worry about a warrant or anything, do I? Sara isn't going to come after me for invading her privacy?" Archie asked offhandedly. He knew Sara's temper had mellowed significantly over the years, especially since her return, but he had also knew how fiercely protective she was of her privacy.
"Don't worry about that. She can blame me." DB reassured him. A few minutes later, he had Sara's call and text history, including the much sought after number. "Thanks for that Archie. We really appreciate it." He pulled out his phone from his pocket as he left the room.
"Hey Catherine, I've got his number. Mmhmm. I had Archie look at Sara's call history. Yup, I'll send it to you, and you and Nick can decide who gets to call him. OK, I'll see you again tomorrow. Take care of our girl."
With Grissom's number now available, he was inundated with a series of texts.
"Gil! It's Catherine. You're a really hard man to track down. I need you to call me back as soon as you get this. Its really important. Call me!"
"Hey Grissom. It's Nick. I know Catherine has already called you, and texted you, but I know you also tend to ignore her sometimes. We really need you to call us as soon as you can. Call me, or call Catherine. Hell even call Greg or the lab. Just, get in touch as soon as you can. Please."
"Hello Doctor Grissom. This is DB Russell, I work with Sara. I'm sorry to bother you, but we really need to speak with you immediately. It's urgent. You can reach me at the lab, or call me back on my personal cell phone."
"Hey Gil, it's Brass. Did you drop off the face of the planet or something? I know, we haven't heard from you in a while, but you need to get back here. It's important. Call me back."
"Hi Gil. Ecklie. I know you don't want to hear from me, but I wouldn't call unless it was an emergency. Call me back at the lab. It's important."
"Hello Gil. I need to speak to you about a matter relating to Sara. Please call me. - Doc"
He sighed. What a mess.
