Giran adored his line of work. That's why he prided himself on his ability to fulfill his clients' requests. Especially when the requests came from his more favorable clients.
Whenever he was contacted for a job, he made sure to fulfill the request to his utmost best. It was important that his clients were pleased with his quality of work. If they were, it was highly likely they would return to his services instead of searching for a different informant. Keeping clients was the only way for informants like him to survive.
Recently, Giran had found himself fulfilling more requests from a new group called the League of Villains. He very rarely had favored clients, but the league just so happened to own one of those spots. The variety of people they employed as well as their attitude towards the completion of their missions earned his grudging respect. The lingering thought that one wrong move could end their lives always circled around in the back of their minds, automatically making them differ from the majority of his clients.
Life was like a game of chess; one wrong move and your life is over.
Giran absolutely loved it when his clients were careful about their actions and understood the repercussions of messing up in the slightest. That's why when he got a call from Twice, he was immediately interested. Twice was the middleman between him and the League of Villains, attributed to the fact that the man was easily able to hold conversations with him to the fullest. The only other person in the League that could briefly stand or begin to comprehend his antics was Dabi. Of course, their interactions were limited due to the fact that Dabi presented a cold exterior to all those around him and preferred to settle things with the use of his fire. So, while Giran could converse with Dabi, he preferred to communicate with Twice.
The moment Twice informed him that the League needed any and all information on a U.A student, he immediately became captivated. It was easy to discern from the man's tone that the job request he was receiving was important, and it only made him shiver with glee. It wasn't often that Twice held a conversation without the interruption of his other half butting in to add his own commentary.
Finding out that the U.A student they wanted information on was none other than Midoriya Izuku's whereabouts, he became even more interested in the request. Giran knew quite well that Shigaraki held a strange infatuation for the kid, so he couldn't help but wonder what he would do with the knowledge of the kid's location. Would he hold it over the heroes as leverage, or would he immediately kill the thorn in his side?
To his surprise, that wasn't the end of his curiosity. After pondering what the League would use the information for, Twice informed him that the reason they wanted the information in the first place was because the kid was missing. Dabi and Toga had visited his house with the intention of kidnapping him, only to find notes addressed to his classmates and teachers.
A hero student running away with the claim that no one cared about them was interesting in its own right, especially since he claimed that his closest friends wouldn't care as well. It only furthered Giran's curiosity, making him ecstatic to start searching for the whereabouts of the kid.
It was a pet peeve of his when he didn't know the missing pieces of a puzzle, so he always strived to find those missing pieces at the soonest convenience. Perhaps that exact thinking was the reason why the League were so invested in the kid being missing in the first place. For the one kid they all knew to be overly heroic, just to run away, proclaiming his hatred for All Might and his little belief in his peers?
Now that was intriguing.
People didn't just change overnight; it happened gradually and consumed the person before they even realized what was happening. So clearly the kid must've been harboring these thoughts for a while, desperately trying to decipher them and their meaning. And it seemed the kid must've found his answer, because he wouldn't have run away otherwise. It also seemed that upon his relevation, he came to the conclusion that the symbol of peace was an idiot. Pushing your views and goals onto a child? What a riot.
Once his call with Twice reached its conclusion, he couldn't help but shiver with glee over the job he was handed. Even if he strived to fulfill every request to its fullest, that didn't mean he enjoyed every request he received. As a broker in the underground, it didn't matter if you particularly liked the job you were given or not, it only mattered how skillfully you pulled off the job and how well you met your client's expectations.
That's why when Giran received a job he was thoroughly interested in, he immediately put off any of his other requests that could handle waiting, and fully immersed himself in the task that stole his attention.
The only question he had to figure out now was how to go about finding Midoriya. The league had thoroughly checked through the house a second time after Dabi and Toga came back, according to Twice. As they didn't find anything else, they decided to leave the job in the hands of their trusty broker.
Giran knew that as long as he provided them with a location, they would be grateful. So Giran combed through all of his previous clients that owed him favors searching for the person that he knew could assist him in finding this kid's location.
Haru Kai, an exceptional man, usually had mildly interesting requests. He was the exact person Giran needed to fulfill his job. Haru's quirk, Location Reel, allowed him to locate the area of someone's whereabouts after just looking at a simple picture of the person. It was the perfect quirk for this situation, especially since pictures were so easy to come by. All Giran needed to do to find a picture of Midoriya was visit U.A's website. It was laughably simple.
Now all that was left was to track down Haru Kai himself. Luckily for Giran, Haru was relatively easy to track down compared to some of his other clients. Giran held a habit of knowing clients like the back of his hand that he might need to contact later. That's why he knew that Haru frequently hung out at multiple underground bars. All he had to do was visit each one until he found his target.
After going around and visiting the different bars discreetly, Giran struck gold on the second night of searching. Not bad, he thought. Giran was lucky to find Haru so early in the game. Now all he had to do was bring up the favor Haru owed him and get him to use his quirk.
Walking quietly into the bar, Giran moved towards where Haru was seated. Unfortunately, Giran had to wait some time for the extra party at the table to leave, but the moment he saw his chance, he took it. Sliding into the booth, Giran took the time to look at Haru. His expression morphed into one of surprise at the sight of him. Although that was to be expected since it was rare for Giran to seek someone out himself.
Starting the conversation off slowly, Giran asked, "Hey Haru, how you been?"
"Giran, it's nice to see you again. I'm doin' pretty good. How bout you? How's business?" Haru responded cautiously, his facial expression tinged with suspicion.
"All time high with the jobs, they just keep getting more interesting," Giran replied quickly, reveling in the amount of discomfort he was causing the man across from him.
Haru chuckled in response in an attempt to hide his discomfort. "Is that so? Then I assume you're here to talk to me about one of these jobs? Especially since it's rare for you to seek people out unless you need to."
"Smart as ever, Haru. I am here on business, a tracking mission."
"Oh? And I assume you want my help?"
Giran nodded. "Exactly that. You do owe me a favor, after all."
"Hmph, alright. What'd you need?" Haru said in defeat, knowing that arguing with Giran was a fruitless endeavor.
"U.A student Midoriya Izuku is missing, ran off on his own accord. My client planned on kidnapping him but walked into an empty house and a note," Giran explained.
"That's interesting. I assume you want me to track him?" Haru guessed, immediately surmising that his quirk was a boon for a job like this.
"Precisely that my friend."
"Alright, I can do that for ya. You got a picture?"
"Of course I do. Who do you think I am?" Giran replied, his tone tinged with annoyance. He thought his client would've known him better, approaching someone without the proper tools.
"Ha, good point. Alright put it here," Haru said while tapping the table.
Giran slowly took the picture out of his coat pocket, sliding it upside down across the table. He watched as Haru worked his magic, picking up the picture and closing his eyes. When he opened them back up, he had a small smirk on his face, indicating that he had found the relevant location.
"Alright Giran, got your location so you better remember it," Haru said while placing the picture back down on the table.
"Of course, I would never fail my client."
Haru leaned over the table, moving towards Giran's ear and whispered, "The kid's relevant location is the abandoned city in Hosu." Haru then leaned back out of Giran's ear to see his reaction.
Giran raised an eyebrow. "Really? I'm pretty sure gang wars have taken place there, so it's not a safe place for him to be."
"That's what I was thinkin', but he probably doesn't know that since they don't learn about dangerous places in cities since it's not 'relevant' to their hero work," Haru replied. His face had morphed into one of annoyance over the fact that hero schools neglected to inform students of dangerous cities.
Giran hummed in response. Haru made an interesting point, and they both knew that he was probably speaking the truth. "Well, thanks for your help Haru. You no longer owe me any favors."
Haru grinned back. "Finally free from favors, huh? Sounds pretty good to me. See ya around Giran, and good luck with that client of yours."
"See ya around Haru."
Giran slid out of the booth, sauntering towards the exit with a smirk on his face. The league would be pleasantly surprised that he had confirmed the kid's location so quickly. Even if it wasn't his exact whereabouts, they would at least know where to start searching for him.
The moment Giran was out of earshot from any eavesdroppers, he pulled out his phone and clicked on Twice's contact.
"Yo Twice, I got what you guys are looking for."
"Really! That was fast! Amazing!"
"Yep, cashed in a favor that was owed and got the kids general location."
"Let's hear it then! Hand it over."
"Alright, alright. The kid's general location is somewhere in the abandoned city in Hosu."
"Really? That place is dangerous. Totally safe!"
"That's what I thought, so you might wanna hurry it up, never know what trouble you'll find in the dark parts of Hosu."
"Thanks, Giran. We owe you one. No we don't."
"No problem Twice. And consider this one free of charge. I thoroughly enjoyed this job."
At that, Giran swiftly hung up and walked away from the alley he was wholed up in. Unfortunately, it'll probably be a while before I get another interesting job, but that one was fun while it lasted, he thought.
Satisfied with his results, Giran immediately began sifting through his contacts to pick up some other jobs for him to fulfill. In the back of his mind, he secretly hoped the league would succeed in whatever they were trying to accomplish.
