Chapter 11: The Asian Lantern Festival

One cool and rainy second Saturday of October 2023, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, as well as Carly's stepdad, at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium for the Asian Lantern Festival. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We listened to Kate Bush, Lizzo, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees prior to the start of the festival. "As I was saying last week at the Mexican restaurant, I am a 35-year-old man who is still single and does not have a family," James told all of us. "I found the perfect girlfriend in 10th grade named Sybil but we didn't last very long, and I wanted to find several more girlfriends by getting the perfect picture on School Picture Day." "Sarah wanted a perfect picture, too," Henri remembered. "I don't have to worry about Benedict anymore because he is no longer with us," Sarah happily stated. "I was worried that they would not have the festival if it rained all day," I told Sarah. "I told you that everything would be okay, Angel," Sarah told me. "I really miss the Hartwood Acres lights that happened every year around Christmas," Carly stated. "They even extended well past the holidays. "I am sure that this light-up festival makes you just as happy," Spencer stated. "I miss the Hartwood Acres lights too," Mr. Benson pointed out, "even though these are just as fun." "The fall season is in full swing now that Angel and I got our boots taken off this past week," Alex happily stated. "Just in time for Phantom Fall Fest and the Halloween carnival at Hillcrest Country Club!" "Yes, there is a lot more fun to come for the rest of the fall season," Justin agreed. "The carnival at the Country Club sounds fun," Max agreed. "I thought that my friend's Sweet 16 party at the Country Club was a whole lot of fun," Alex agreed. "Does the carnival have a special dress code or can we wear whatever we want?" "I believe that you can wear whatever you want," Sarah stated. "I can dress up some days and dress casual some days," I pointed out. We all enjoyed the lights, food, games, and fun at the festival before it was time for all of us to go home. "Thanks for a great evening, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
