One of the lessons students in middle school take is cooking, which everyone knows is heating up food so that it looks good to eat, whether it's already made food or food being made from scratch.

One day, it was time for cooking with Charlie Brown, Tommy, Emerald, Violet, Pig-Pen, Heather, the Pattys, Scarlet, Marcie and Frieda. Mr. Barber came in to call the roll and announce what everyone would be cooking that day.

"Today," said Mr. Barber. "We will be making a cake."

"Yay! Cake!" Everyone cheered.

"Hence," continued Mr. Barber. "I will be dividing all of you into pairs."

"Yay!" everyone cheered.

"But first," Mr. Barber added. "Once I call out different names, whoever says 'I will' will be partnered with that person. First up, Patricia…"

Patty Swanson was nervous, thinking Mr. Barber was talking about her.

"Reichardt!"

"That'll be me!" Peppermint Patty cried.

"I will." Said Marcie, as she went up to Peppermint Patty.

"Well, looks like we'll be making today's sweet treat, won't we, Marcie?" Peppermint Patty said excitedly.

"We sure will, Sir." Said Marcie.

"Percy Pen." Mr. Barber continued.

"I will!" called Patty Swanson. "After all, a little dirt never hurt anyone!"

"Charlie Brown!" Mr. Barber continued.

"I will." Came a genteel voice.
The voice belonged to Heather the Little Red-Haired Girl.

"I don't believe it!" Charlie Brown smiled. "She's going to bake a cake with me!"

"Evie!"

"I will." Said Violet. "Since Patty is with her dirty boyfriend, I'll be Evie's partner."

"Mary Stewart!"

"I will." Said a boy named Steven, who was also taking the class.

"Emerald Green."
"I will, I guess." Scarlet said.

"Tommy Halverson."

"I will!" called Frieda. "I'll do anything to cook with my sweeteridoo!"

After everyone had been decided, Charlie Brown and Heather soon set to work.

"I'm a bit nervous about this." Said Charlie Brown.

"Don't worry, Charlie Brown." Said Heather. "Remember the pizza we made? Well, it came out just fine."

"Oh. Yeah." Charlie Brown remembered.

"Here's what we're going to do." Said Heather. "First, we're going to wash our hands."

Charlie Brown quickly placed his hands under the rushing tap.

"Not so fast, Charlie Brown." Heather said. "You need to wash for twenty seconds."

"Oh. Right." Said Charlie Brown as he spent the next 20 seconds cleaning his hands. After that, Heather followed suit.

"Alright. Let's get to baking." Heather said. "First, aprons."
"Well, at least they're all different colours." Said Charlie Brown as he put a yellow one on.

While Heather put on a pink one.

"I'll do the wet ingredients, you do dry." Charlie Brown said.

"Deal, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.

As Charlie Brown was cracking one egg, some of the bits of shell landed in the bowl.

"Oh, good grief!" groaned Charlie Brown.

"Not to worry, Charlie Brown. Leave that to me." Heather said as she used a spoon to scoop out the bits of shell.

"Thanks." Said Charlie Brown.

Over at the station Pig-Pen and Patty Swanson were baking at, Violet looked over and stared.

"What's wrong, Violet?" asked Evie.

"Nothing." Said Violet. "It's just….. I'm worried my friend's cake will be all dusty, especially since she's baking with Pig-Pen."

"Less stake, more bake!" Evie called back as Violet turned back to her work.

But what nobody realised was that trouble was about to brew.

At Charlie Brown and Heather's station, someone swapped out the sugar for the salt.

At Mary and Steven's station, someone swapped the flour for plaster.

At Pig-Pen and Patty Swanson's station, someone swapped water for root beer.

At Peppermint Patty and Marcie's station, someone swapped the salt for the sugar.

At Evie and Violet's station, someone sprinkled egg shell into the sugar.
At Tommy and Frieda's station, someone swapped water with perfume.

All other tricks being played, I'd be here all day.

"Okay!" called Mr. Barber. "The time has come….. to place your cakes in the oven!"

Everyone did so, and waited for their cakes to bake.

"I hope we did good." Charlie Brown said worriedly.

"Don't worry about it, Charlie Brown." Said Heather. "Our cake should be fine. So now, we have to wash the dishes and cutlery."

"Aww, not dishwashing!" everyone exclaimed.

"Don't we have a dishwasher to clean these dishes?" asked Violet.

"Now, Violet." Said Mr. Barber. "Washing the dishes like this is faster than using a dishwasher."

"I guess so." Sighed Violet.

"Anything to do while waiting." Said Charlie Brown.

After about 25 minutes, it was time for everyone to take the cakes out of the ovens. Mr. Barber went around to taste the different cakes. First, he tried Pig-Pen and Patty Swanson's cake.

"Hmm… Seems like you've gotten the water mixed up with ginger beer." Said Mr. Barber. "But…. good job anyway."

"Huh?!" exclaimed Pig-Pen.

"But….. how?!" Patty Swanson exclaimed.

Next, Mr. Barber tasted Mary and Steve's cake and…

"Blegh! Seems like you got the plaster mistaken for flour!" he groaned.

"But how?! Plaster?!" Mary exclaimed.

After trying Violet and Evie's cake…

"Ouch! How did you get egg shell into your cake?!" exclaimed Mr. Barber.

"But…. I don't remember doing it!" Violet stammered.

After tasting Charlie Brown and Heather's cake…..

"Not bad, but it seems as though you got the salt and sugar mixed up."

"Huh?!" Charlie Brown cried.

"But….. I thought he put sugar into the cake!" Heather exclaimed.

After trying Peppermint Patty and Marcie's cake…

"Pretty good, but….. you seem to have gotten the sugar and salt mixed up too." Mr. Barber said.

"Good grief!" cried Peppermint Patty.

"At least we tried, Sir." Said Marcie.

Mr. Barber then tasted Tommy and Frieda's cake and then…..

"BLEGH! Perfume?! Instead of water?! Yuck!"

"Good grief!" exclaimed Tommy.

"I know I never used perfume!" Frieda said in shock.

Next, Mr. Barber tasted Emerald and Scarlet's cake, and…..

"Marvellous!" Mr. Barber said. "Absolutely marvellous!"

"Why thank you, Mr. Barber." Said Scarlet.

"It has to be the tastiest cake ever." Smiled Emerald.

Soon, cooking class was over, and it was time for recess. There was Charlie Brown sitting on a bench, while Heather went over.

"You alright, Charlie Brown?" asked Heather.

"I don't understand where we went wrong." Said Charlie Brown.

"Good grief. Maybe we can fix it, next time we cook something." Heather said, remembering the time the Red Baron destroyed hers and Charlie Brown's book report, saying they could fix it.

"I don't think we could fix ruined cakes." Sighed Charlie Brown.

"Well, I'd best go around and see how everyone else is feeling about their cakes." Heather decided.

Heather went up to Violet, who was angry about how hers and Evie's cake turned out.

"I can't believe it!" Violet shouted. "Eggshell in my cake?!"

"Still upset about how your cake turned out, Violet?" asked Heather.

"Yes! I just don't know who would do it!" Violet groaned.

"I'm sure it turned out better than mine and Charlie Brown's." Heather said. "Ours was more salty than sweet."

"Pity I say." Said Violet.

"Let's see who else suffered this issue." Said Heather.

Heather then came up to Tommy and Frieda, who were both dejected about their perfumy cake.

"Sorry to hear about your cake." Said Heather. "Charlie Brown and I didn't do very well either."

"It wasn't your fault, Heather." Said Tommy.

"And it wasn't yours either." Said Heather.

"By the looks of things," said Frieda. "The only cake Mr. Barber liked was the one Emerald and Scarlet made."

Heather took Frieda's words into consideration.

"Oh." Said Heather. "I have to go to science now. I'll see you later."

So Heather went down to her science class, leaving Tommy and Frieda feeling distraught.

"Looks like we aren't the only victims, Tommy." Said Frieda.

"Not to worry, Frieda." Said Tommy. "Hopefully Heather will put things right."

Heather had her science class, and whilst listening to her teacher, Miss Hagemeyer, who happened to be Miss Othmar's sister-in-law.

"Miss Wold?" Miss Hagemeyer asked. "Your attention please?"
"Oh, Sorry, Miss Hagemeyer." Said Heather. "Something else was on my mind."

"Well, less thinking more learning." Said Miss Hagemeyer.
"Yes, Miss." Heather said as she faced the board.

Meanwhile, another cooking class was going on. More cruelty was going on. Schroeder, Shermy, Franklin, Floyd and Heather Johnson had this cooking class. Shermy was partnered with Heather Johnson to bake a cake, but their sugar was replaced with thumb tacks.

Franklin and Floyd had their flour swapped out for glue, and Schroeder and Lila, who also had this cooking class, had their butter swapped out for yellow paint. Mr. Barber didn't like any of the cakes that were being made either.

When it was second break, Heather saw Shermy, Schroeder, Franklin, Lila, Floyd and the other Heather looking disgruntled.

"What's the matter?" Heather Wold asked.

"Mr. Barber didn't like any of our cakes either!" Schroeder said angrily.

"Our butter was swapped out for yellow paint!" exclaimed Lila.

"Sugar was replaced with thumb tacks!" Shermy added.

"Flour was swapped out for glue!" Franklin added.

"Mr. Barber didn't like any of our cakes at all!" Heather Johnson exclaimed.

"Similar things happened during our cooking class too!" Heather Wold said.

"Evie told me the same thing!" Added one of Evie's friends Abee. "Mine and Nilvia had our flour swapped out with modelling clay!"

"Just….. how?!" Groaned Nilvia.

Heather Wold grew more and more suspicious.

"Hmm… I think someone is playing cruel tricks on everyone." She said. "And I'm going to get to the bottom of this if it's the last thing I do!"

"I'll be on board with this too." Said Heather Johnson.

"But I have gym class next." Heather Wold said. "Maybe during our lunch break."

"Deal."
And both Heathers shook each other's hands.

"See you later." Heather Wold said.

So Heather Wold made her way to the gym.

"For now, I'll focus on gym and worry about investigating later." She said to herself.

Heather Wold had gym class, and after changing into her turquoise leotard and pink sneakers, she got ready for the lesson when she caught a glimpse of Emerald talking to their teacher, a buff man named Mr. Legstrong.

"Er….. I need to go to the bathroom. You wouldn't mind if I went, would you?" asked Emerald.

"Sure." Said Mr. Legstrong. "But be quick."
"Yes. I will." Smirked Emerald as she left the gymnasium.

"Why would Emerald be so willing to go to the bathroom on such short notice?" wondered Heather Wold.

As Heather Wold wondered this, Peppermint Patty came up.

"What's wrong, Heather?" asked Peppermint Patty.

"It's Emerald." Said Heather Wold. "She just left for the bathroom."

Fifteen minutes later…

Mr. Legstrong was waiting and waiting.

"Miss Wold." Said Mr. Legstrong. "Go and check if Emerald is doing well."
"Okay." Said Heather Wold.

Heather Wold went back into the change room to look for Emerald, thinking she may have gone into this bathroom.

"Emerald?" Heather Wold asked. "Emerald Green? Is everything coming out alright in there?"

Heather Wold decided to get Mr. Legstrong.

"Mr. Legstrong. I think Emerald isn't in our change room."
"Go check the main girls' room." Said Mr. Legstrong.

Heather changed back into her normal outfit and down to the main girl's bathroom.

"Emerald? How are you doing in there?" asked Heather Wold.

Meanwhile, back at gym, Tommy started to wonder why Emerald hadn't returned.

"Perhaps she had such a big breakfast?" Tommy said to himself.

"Emerald? Are you listening?" Asked Heather.

Soon, Heather Wold and Mr. Legstrong returned.

"Any luck?" asked Tommy.

"No luck." Sighed Heather Wold. "No sign of Emerald anywhere."

"Speak of the devil….." Charlie Brown said as he saw Emerald march her way back into the gym.

"Emerald! What took you so long?" demanded Mr. Legstrong.

"Sorry, Mr." said Emerald. "I had such a big breakfast, I couldn't let it out any faster."

"I knew it." Tommy said. "Emerald had a breakfast too big."

At lunch time, Heather Wold was having her lunch at the same table as Charlie Brown. Since Lucy had cooking class while Charlie Brown and Heather Wold had gym, she decided to sit down.

"AAUGH!" she shouted.

"What's the matter Lucy?" asked Heather Wold.

"Our teacher didn't like the cake me and the new kid Sebastian made!" Lucy huffed. "He said we mixed the sugar up with beads! What blockhead would mistake sugar for beads?! Come on! Even I know they're not sprinkles!"

Heather Wold's suspicions were growing higher.

"Well, Emerald did say she needed to use the bathroom during gym." Said Heather Wold.

"Then….." Lucy pondered. "You don't think….."
"It's only a maybe." Said Heather Wold.

Then, she turned to Charlie Brown.

"Charlie Brown. I have an idea. Do you remember when Emerald framed Tommy and Peppermint Patty?" Heather Wold asked, remembering what Frieda had told her when Emerald had first moved into America.

"Yeah." Said Charlie Brown.

"Well, you might want to use Snoopy to find out who's been playing tricks on the students in the cooking classes." Heather Wold suggested.

"Okay, Heather." Said Charlie Brown.

After school that day, Heather Wold and Charlie Brown were making their way home.

"While we're at it, I'll get my Fifi to help out too." Heather Wold decided.

As Heather Wold went home, Charlie Brown went to his house. There was Sally, ready to feed Snoopy.

"Oh. Hi, Big Brother." Said Sally.
"Sally. I need Snoopy for something, but after he finishes his meal." Said Charlie Brown.

"Alright, Big Brother." Said Sally as Snoopy tucked into his meal.

Heather Wold went into her backyard where Fifi was sitting.

"Fifi. I need you for something." Heather Wold said.

Fifi sat up and listened with wonder.

"Here is what you're going to do."

And Heather Wold whispered into her dog's ear.

"Hmm….." Fifi wondered.

"Don't worry, Fifi." Said Heather Wold. "Snoopy will help out."

"Yay!" Fifi cheered.

"But do it tomorrow." Said Heather Wold.

And she explained all about what was happening at school that day.

The next day, Charlie Brown, Heather Wold, Lucy, Linus, Janice, Lindsey, Sally and Harold Angel were at the bus stop. Lucy was still livid about how her cake turned out.

"Don't worry." Heather Wold said. "Charlie Brown and I have brought someone who could help."
And up to the bus stop walked Snoopy and Fifi.

"Oh, good grief! Like dogs are gonna be of any help!" Lucy groaned.

"Oh, but they're no ordinary dogs." Heather Wold winked.

"But how are they even gonna go? Dogs aren't even allowed on the school bus!" asked Sally.

"Oh, but there's another way." Charlie Brown winked.

As soon as the school bus pulled up, Charlie Brown and Heather Wold turned to them.

"Onto the bus' bumper." Said Charlie Brown.

"Driver won't see you." Heather Wold added.

So Charlie Brown, Heather Wold, Lucy, Linus, Janice and Lindsey boarded the bus, and it head off.

"Once I find out who messed up my cake, I'll give them the slugging they truly deserve!" said Lucy angrily.

Soon, the bus stopped right outside the Halverson place, when Tommy boarded.

"Hi, Tommy." Said Heather Wold.

"Hi, Heather." Said Tommy.

Later, the bus stopped outside Frieda's, and Frieda stepped onto the bus.

"Watch the curls!" Frieda called to the bus driver.

Then, Frieda walked up to Tommy.

"Hello, Tommy." Smiled Frieda. "How are you feeling?"

"A little better." Said Tommy. "But I hope to find out who messed up our cake."
"Oh, you may find out soon enough." Heather said, turning to the two love birds.

As soon as the bus stopped, Snoopy and Fifi got off the back of the bus with a camera. They were looking for the cooking room, and as they found it, Fifi set up a tripod, and Snoopy placed the camera on top.

"Ha ha!" Snoopy chuckled.

"Yay!" Fifi added.

Heather Wold looked towards where Snoopy and Fifi were, and gave them a thumbs up.

There was indeed a cooking class first thing that morning. Snoopy and Fifi were watching for who was playing tricks on the other students. They were very shocked to find out who it was. They turned off the camera, and Snoopy waited until first break, so he could go in dressed as Joe Cool.

Heather Wold sat down at a table with Charlie Brown, talking about the events. When Snoopy, dressed as Joe Cool, arrived, he had the camera with him.

"So, you got the evidence, Joe Cool?" asked Heather Wold.

"Ah ha!" Snoopy said.

"Great." Smiled Heather Wold. "This I gotta show Mr. Barber."

Heather Wold took the camera to Mr. Barber.

"Mr. Barber." Said Heather Wold. "I found out what happened to everyone's cakes!"

"Really?" said Mr. Barber. "Is this your camera by any chance?"

"No." said Heather Wold. "It belongs to Charlie Brown."

"Well, I'll play the video anyway."

So Mr. Barber took out the tape, placed it into the VCR, and was shocked to find out who was playing tricks.

"Emerald." Mr. Barber said angrily.

"I knew it!" Heather Wold exclaimed.

"But how did you suspect Emerald did it?" asked Mr. Barber.

"Well," said Heather. "Yesterday, she said she'd be going to the bathroom during gym class, but didn't return for a while. This made me suspect she was behind all this. Also, she did frame Tommy and Peppermint Patty a couple of years ago, just after she arrived in America, as Frieda found out."

"Ruin everyone's cakes, would she?" Mr. Barber said angrily. "I'll deal with her next time I see her."

When Heather Wold returned to the cafeteria, there were Emerald Green and Scarlet Harper, offering everyone each a slice of their cake.

"Everybody." Emerald said. "To apologise for what happened to your cakes yesterday, Scarlet and I would like to offer each of you a slice of our delicious cake."
"Oh, thank you." Heather Wold said as Emerald handed her a piece.

Heather Wold did her best to remain innocent. Emerald watched as Heather Wold walked towards the garbage can and… dropped her slice in.

"What the heck, Heather!" exclaimed Emerald. "We offer you a slice of our cake, and this is how you repay us?!"

"I'm very sorry, Emerald." Heather said innocently. "I do not accept food from anyone who spends their entire day playing tricks on the other students."

Everyone, who was around, gasped.

"Is she for real?!" exclaimed Linus.

"Good grief." Groaned Scarlet. "You're busted!"

"Zip it, Scarlet!" Emerald said, elbowing her blonde friend. "Where's your proof I've been messing up everyone's cakes?"

"Snoopy filmed you playing tricks on this morning's cooking class." Said Heather. "and I showed the evidence to Mr. Barber."

"You made us make absolute blockheads of ourselves!" Charlie Brown said angrily.

"And also," said Heather Wold. "I grew suspicious of you when you said you needed the bathroom yesterday."

"Er… I really did need it." Said Emerald.

"Ah, no you didn't!" came another voice.

The voice belonged to Heather Johnson.

"At the same time this Heather had gym, I went to the bathroom whilst in my science class, and you weren't even in there." Heather Johnson explained.

"Rats!" groaned Emerald. She knew she was in trouble now.

Everyone glared at Emerald for what she had done. Scarlet backed away so to not lose her popularity.

"So there you have it, Folks." Said Heather Wold. "Now you know who messed up your cakes."

As she said this, Mr. Barber came into the cafeteria.

"Miss Green! Detention for the rest of the day!" he demanded.

"Oh, good grief!" groaned Emerald.

"Ah, who's the blockhead now!" laughed Lucy. "Tricks like that are a new low, even for you!"

Later that afternoon, it was time for another cooking class, and this one was Heather Wold's.

"After that mishap we had yesterday," said Mr. Barber. "We shall be making another cake today."

"Alright then." Everyone said.

"And so all cakes are good, Emerald is on detention for the rest of the day."

"I knew there was another thing I didn't like about her." Tommy said to Frieda.

"Partners will be the same, so to your stations." Said Mr. Barber.

"Wonderful!" Heather Wold exclaimed. "Come on, Charlie Brown! Let's get to cooking!"

"Alright then." Said Charlie Brown, feeling better about not being at fault for messing up their cake."

Meanwhile, in the detention room, Emerald was explaining why she'd played the trick she played on everyone.

"I wanted to make my cake extra special." Said Emerald. "All the ingredients were so tasty, I couldn't help but to eat them all."
"Good grief!" exclaimed the principal. "You could always eat that stuff on break times."

"Oh." Emerald sighed.

Then Emerald had a thought.

"This was all Sniffy's doing!" Emerald thought to herself, remembering that it was Snoopy who found out about her crimes when she first came to America.

Later, it was time for everyone's cakes to be taken out of the oven. Mr. Barber tasted every single cake that was made, and…..

"Yes?" Everyone asked.

"You all did remarkably!" said Mr. Barber. "Though the cake Percy and Patty Swanson made could do with a little less dirt, but still, a little dirt never hurt anyone."

"Well, a little dirt never hurt anyone." Patty Swanson smiled.

Everyone was so happy, they almost raised the roof.

"You see, Charlie Brown?" said Heather Wold. "Now that Emerald's out of our system for the rest of the day, our cakes turned out just fine."

"And our cakes turning out to be perfect, all thanks to Miss Heather Wold herself." Mr. Barber said.

"Aw, it was nothing." Smiled Heather. "It was yesterday's gym class that made me suspicious."

"Thank you, Bestie." Said Mary. "Now mine and Steven's cake is perfect."

"Oh. So Heather found it out." Said Violet. "Well, at least my cake turned out good."

"Same with mine." Added Patty Swanson. "Of course, a little dirt never hurt anyone."

"As was ours." Peppermint Patty said. "With thanks to Marcie checking the ingredients."
"Anything for a friend, Sir." Said Marcie.

Just before class could be dismissed, Heather Wold and Charlie Brown took half of their cake home with them.

"That was such an honourable thing you did today, Heather." Said Charlie Brown.

"Aw, it was nothing." Smiled Heather Wold. "Just looking out for my friends is all."

"I hope Sally, Snoopy and Wally like our cake." Said Charlie Brown.

"Same with Henry and Fifi." Said Heather.

Soon, the two friends made their way home, and Charlie Brown went inside, where Sally was watching TV.

"Hey, Sally." Said Charlie Brown. "Look what I brought!"

"What is it, Big Brother?" asked Sally.

"Cake!" said Charlie Brown.

"Did someone say cake?" asked Wally, who toddled in.

"And it's all yours." Said Charlie Brown, as he, Sally, Wally and Snoopy came in to eat it.

Heather Wold saw Henry playing with Fifi.

"Look what I brought, Henry, Fifi!" Heather Wold said.

"Cake!" Henry called as he eyed his sister's dish.

"Yay!" cheered Fifi.

Later that day, both Charlie Brown and Heather Wold sat under a tree, discussing the day's events as well as their cake.

"So what did your siblings and dog think of our cake?" asked Heather Wold.

"They liked every single piece of it." Said Charlie Brown.

"Same with Henry and Fifi. They just couldn't get enough!" said Heather Wold.

"And by the way, thanks for clearing everyone on who messed up on yesterday's cakes." Said Charlie Brown.

"Anything for my friends." Smiled Heather Wold. "Especially my favourites; My bestie Mary, and my sweet babboo; Good Old Charlie Brown."

And Heather Wold, with love in her eyes, kissed Charlie Brown's right cheek. The kiss caused him to blush bright red. Heather Wold watched and giggled.
