(Still Sam's POV)
Everything was dark. Ash clouds covered the landscapes making the sunlight a red haze. Looking around, everything looked to be the remains of a war. Humans and demons alike.
"What happened here?" I asked myself aloud. Not knowing what to do, I picked a direction and just started walking.
Problem was, I didn't really know where I was! Fear started creeping up my spine to the back of my neck making the hairs stand up. Something was very wrong. But I wasn't sure what it was. Then a horrible realization hit me. I was in Hell! And I wasn't supposed to be there!
"Rose! Where are you?!" I started panicking from not hearing or being able to feel her. That was one thing that was always able to be done. In some shape or form, I had always been able to tell if she was there or not. Not finding her, terrified me to my very core. All I could do was to keep on walking to somehow figure out how to get out of this miserable place.
As I kept going, I noticed something. Further into the distance, I could make out a shape starting to move. Its wings were tattered and torn. As I got closer I noticed blood was dripping down the person's arm and forehead down to their lip. Upon further glance, I gasped as I recognized the mysterious person. It was Rose! I had never seen her completely in this form before. I mean, yea, i knew she was a demon. But NEVER in the time i have known her to look like this. It scared the living shit out of me. The look in her eyes was what haunted me the most. It was almost pure blood lust! It was like she was a whole different person.
Hearing me gasp, she turned her head towards me, looking almost like she was in a daze. Holding her daggers to her side, poised as if ready to defend or strike, I did not know. It was as if she didn't recognize me.
"Learn your place or those you care about most will BURN!"
I couldn't move as my mind was screaming at me that I was in danger. I knew Rose, my Rose, would never do such a thing. Not to me. But my thoughts were interrupted as she charged towards me, ready to strike.
"NO!" I screamed as I woke up, panting heavily and covered in beads of sweat.
Looking around, I see no one in sight. Trying to clear my head from remnants of the dream, I started to wonder where Rose was. Not seeing her but slightly feeling, I conquered that she was with her boss down below on an assignment. Hopefully she takes care of herself, I thought. And with that, I attempted to doze back off in a dreamless sleep not realizing that there was a shadow watching from the corner, waiting with a canine type smirk. "It has started…"
(Rose's p.o.v.)
To say the least, I HATE being summoned when I know that Sam is having a hard time. Usually she can tell between visions and nightmares but lately it seems like she is having more and more nightmares than normal dreams or otherwise. I need to find a way to help her or else something more drastic could happen to where she may be harmed. After all, we are both still learning after being together for her entire life. Needless to say, things have been for lack of a better human phrase, a roller coaster.
Transporting to where I had been summoned, the scenery had changed drastically. Instead of her immaculately clean bedroom, I ended up near my home down in Hell. Looking around, I knew exactly where I had been taken. A little ways off from where I lived, there was a training ground. There were trees of all sorts, a pond, even a few boulder-like rocks. Standing in the shade of one of those trees, was my boss who was also one of my best friends for as long as I could remember - which was not much at the moment. You see, I have a slight problem with remembering anything from being with Sam. Something drastic happened prior to me being paired up with her and the only thing I KNEW was that it had to do with the old Satan (he was a complete dick by the way). I mean, I still had memories of Darius and I and the fucked up life we have. But back to the issues at hand...
"What's wrong? We rarely meet here unless we're training or there is a problem. I know damn well it's not training..." I started off with.
Him being used to my smart ass comments, just took off his sunglasses and rolled his deep red eyes with a smirk. Then he got serious. "There are some issues going on within the council and since you have ties with me, Sam and my human are BOTH in danger."
These statements cause a deep frown and troubling expression on his face. You see, there are very few things that matter to him more than maintaining peace in our realm. You see, because of the position that he has, he is very selective about who he chooses to associate himself with and gets close to. That circle is extremely small. He did not used to be this way. His human child has changed him over the years - in a good way. He used to be so uptight and all about work work work, even with me around. He also used to be downright cold and arrogant. I used to hate the fact that he got paired up with a human child. Me on the other hand, just Sam, my boss, and his kid (human). I could really care less about anything else to be fair. As far as I was concerned, caring too much for me is a hazard. It makes everyone a target.
It was that way for the both of us. Because of who and how close we were, we were constant targets. Another little side note for you all, I am also the top assassin for Hell. If a job needs to be done, then I take care of it. Whether it is a hit or getting information. Nothing usually gets in my way. Very rarely do I come back without completing a job.
"You think there's a mole? And why would they want Sam or Claire? They're just two little human girls. What damage could they possibly do?!" I was getting all worked up and he could see that. So what does my oh so caring best friend do? He punches me across the field into a damn tree! Yes you heard that right...
"Take care of your anger before it reaches Sam. You don't need her magic acting up again." Taking out my daggers, I coated them to make them not AS sharp. Wouldn't want to possibly harm the king of Hell right? (Insert sarcastic smirk.) Taking a fighting stance, we end up sparring and destroying yet again half the field.
After quite a bit he says. "Enough playing around. Get serious!" He then changes completely into what we call his Satan form. In this one, he has no limitations. In fact, he actually has a trick up his sleeve with this when we fight. Butt-head of a boss of mine can actually drain my demonic energy from me through our snake/pentagrams. Talk about cheating!
After that remark, we keep going. I give it my all, also changing into my full demonic form seeing as that is what he wanted. It was not much of a change, just my wings and a few more power upgrades and my skin gets more red and black on them. I had to be careful though. Too much, and it will alert Sam or other demon bystanders that are just too nosey for their own good.
After pinning me down for the final time, he asks, "cooled off yet?"
Nodding my head, he lets me up and continues to give information or what little we have. "Whoever it is has somehow gained access to the files in the restricted section of the archives. I've already moved the new files for our girls in my office and placed dummy ones in place of them. So far, they will be safe. I have a feeling that they've already started their damage though. Has anything acted up with or around Sam?" He asks.
"Not that I've seen or heard. She did, however, dream about your human and her partner. Just about had a heart attack too. But no not that..." I trailed off. Something was wrong! Looking at my boss, we both looked up hearing a terrified high pitch scream. Looking wide eyed at my friend realizing who it was, "I have to go!" And teleport straight out of there. Little did I know, she had already fallen back asleep -_-".
"Damn kid. Scared the living hell outta me." Tucking Sam back in and shaking my head, I notice her cat Spookers looking around at the window all suspiciously. Seeing nothing, I make myself comfortable until she wakes back up.
After a few hours, her girlfriend comes back from filming whatever it was she was doing. Thankfully she can't see me. That's one perk of being a protector demon. Only the person or child you're assigned to can see you unless given permission from the boss. Speaking of which, I wonder if Claire can see me since her protector is the boss himself...I should ask him.
Taking a deep breath, I could vaguely smell home. "Hmm. Boss must've popped in for a sec." Using magic I put "feelers'' out and sure enough, he was here. Damn guy trying to be sneaky hehehehe. I need to introduce him properly to Sam. Question is, when? I stop my pondering when I notice the girlfriend waking Sam up. "Babe, wake up. We need to talk."
"Uh oh. Those words are never good", I think. Slightly stirring, she wakes up and reaches for her doin what I call the grabby hands. Yanking her partner on the bed and using her as a pillow, she begins to talk.
"How'd it go? Are you filming?" She asked.
"It went ok. I got a call from mom and the family is moving to Italy." Giving her a sad longing look, she explains that Sam can't go, making her cry.
"So you're leaving me? Leaving me behind?" Sam is completely heartbroken at this point. Looking up at her beloved, teary eyed, "can you stay? Please? Please don't leave me behind. I can't lose you..."
I'm wanting to go and comfort her, but she's clinging on for dear life to her partner...possible soon to be ex partner.
"There's nothing that I can do, babe. I have to go. It's an opportunity that I can't pass up. I'm sorry but I am going. I'll still call you when I can and I'll leave some of my clothes here for you. Long distance relationships are difficult but we can do this!" Little did Sam or I know but things were about to get VERY complicated.
After a few more hours of quiet talking and Sam crying, they eventually get up to go get food. Staying behind, I look once again out the window and notice an odd looking shadow on the rooftop. Getting up to investigate, the shadow dissipates as I get closer. Putting it to the back of my mind, I start hearing an odd ringing sound coming from Sam's phone. Seeing the caller ID, it read "Claire/Blaze FaceTime Call". I'm guessing that the girlfriend gave them Sam's number. As it continued to ring, I gathered that Sam didn't hear it as it finally went to voicemail.
Afterwards, I went back down to where Sam was in the kitchen. I had suspected that her girlfriend left because she was in tears at the counter top with a mug in her hand. Going up to her, I try my best to console the sobbing girl. "She left me," was all she could get out among the tears. It killed me all over again to see her like this. Pondering on what to do, I once again could smell the faint smell of home and a light bulb went off in my head.
"Why don't you go take a hot shower and relax. I might know something that will cheer you up ok?" As she nodded her head in response, I helped guide her upstairs to her bathroom that adjoined her bedroom and left her to bathe as I went back to her room.
Smirking, I called out, "You can come out now, ..."
