Voltaire said that the art of medicine is amusing the patient while nature cures the disease. So according to one of the greatest French philosophers of all time, surgeons aren't really helpers. We're more like circus clowns. But help comes in many forms. And something tells me Voltaire never held an aorta while a patient's entire blood volume pulsated between his fingers.
Tom and Amelia were in the study room, looking over Catherine's scans.
"Sorry. Just...," Amelia said.
"I know," Tom said. "But suck it up, because I need your help."
Bailey was sitting in her therapist's office and talking to her.
"I stopped pulling on my fingers. Or..., no, a-at least now I notice when I'm doing it. And I've been doing the exercises you showed me. I'm really noticing a change," Bailey said.
"Don't try to rush it. Takes time for the meds to balance out," the therapist said.
"Right. But...well, for instance, uh, you have a little bit of, um... I think, maybe yogurt on your, uh, chin. I've wanted to mention it this whole time, but I didn't, so... I think we're making progress."
"I'd say we are," the therapist said.
Webber was at an AA meeting talking to Ike about what happened and how he beat up a bar with a baseball bat.
"You beat up the bar with a baseball bat?" Ike laughed.
"Not exactly sober behavior," Webber said.
"No," Ike said. "Legendary, but definitely not sober."
"And, um, my wife has...She's been diagnosed with something frightening," Webber said.
"Oh, man," Ike said. "And you were with Ollie, right?"
"Yeah."
"So you need a sponsor?" Ike asked.
"If you'd be willing, Webber said.
"How you doin' with prayer and meditation? Ike asked.
"Uh... I'm not, Webber said.
"Well, how 'bout we start there?" Ike suggested. Call me tomorrow. He gave Webber a reassuring pat on his shoulder and walked away.
Webber was sitting outside against a tree and was trying to meditate.
Meredith walked down the hallway over to the O.R board and saw Alex writing on it.
"You're on the board?" She asked.
"Yeah. I-I'm sorry," Alex said. "I want to be there when..."
"No, no, I have a dozen little kids coming to my house in a few hours. You said you would help. I don't know anything about superheroes," Meredith said.
"Well, you tell Bailey that Uncle Alex is saving lives, that he actually is a superhero," Alex said.
"Yeah, right. That'll definitely work," Meredith said sarcastically.
"How was Cece's funeral?" Alex asked.
"It was awful. And beautiful," Meredith said. "A lot of her single clients were there. There will probably be a lot of hookups tonight."
"Fitting."
"Yeah."
Arizona sat outside Storm's room while Dr. Rosen was inside talking to Storm. Dr. Rosen got up and walked out of the room.
"And how did it go in there?" She asked.
"It's good that he's talking, but he still won't tell anything about what happened to him, Dr. Rosen told Arizona.
"That's very understandable, he's just a kid," Arizona said.
"Yes, but Storm still has trouble trusting me, even when I just talked to him, he didn't look at me once," Dr. Rosen said.
"What does that mean?" Arizona asked.
"I don't know yet," Dr. Rosen said. "Maybe you can help me with this."
"I want really want to help Storm, but I don't see what I can do for you," Arizona said.
"Maybe you could try very gently see if he will tell you what happened to him, Storm trusts you the most out of everyone now," Dr. Rosen said. "And I can give you advice on how best to do this."
Arizona looked into Storm's room and then back at Dr. Rosen; "I don't know if I can do that Ian, if he notices anything he will lose his trust in me and I don't want that, he needs someone and right now he has chosen me."
"I understand Arizona, I will have another session with him in two days and hopefully we will get some progress," Dr. Rosen said.
Arizona thanked Dr. Rosen for his help and he left again. Arizona entered Storm's room.
"Hey, Storm," she greeted.
"Dr. Robbins," Storm said.
"Can I sit with you?" Arizona asked.
"Yes."
Arizona walked over to Storm's bed and sat down; "How are you doing today?"
"Better," Storm said.
"At least you're much more talkative that's good," Arizona said.
"Are you staying with me today?" Storm asked.
"I would like to, but I've to help in the Pit," Arizona told Storm.
"The Pit?" He asked.
"That's what we call the ER, But otherwise I'll come back here on my lunch break and we'll have lunch together, okay?" Arizona suggested.
"Okay," Storm said.
"Well, you go ahead and think about what you want to eat and drink later, then you tell the nurse and she'll tell me and I'll bring it," Arizona said.
"And then we'll eat together?" Storm asked.
"Then we'll eat together, I promise," Arizona said.
April was in the lobby and saw Jackson standing there and walked over to him and they greeted each other.
"Jackson, how are you doing now?" April asked.
"I don't know what to say," Jackson said.
"Have the three of you talked yet?" April asked.
"No, we haven't."
"Jackson…"
"April, don't start," Jackson said.
"Jackson you shouldn't put your feelings away," April said.
"I'm not, I'm choosing not to talk about it right now," Jackson said.
"Promise me you won't keep putting away how you're feeling right now," April said.
"Okay, I promise," Jackson said.
"Good, April said. So how's Catherine?"
"She's coming to perform a surgery," Jackson said.
"Wait, Catherine's going to do a surgery?" April asked.
"A pelvic exenteration that spares the uterus, to be exact, Catherine said, she and Webber walked up to Jackson and April.
"And the patient's ready for us," Webber said.
"Come April dear, I want you in on this," Catherine said.
"Okay," April said.
Arizona walked into the Pit, which will be full of people coughing, sneezing and spitting. Arizona walked up to Bailey.
"It's full in here," Arizona said.
"It's flu season, get ready," Baliey said.
"What can I do?" Arizona asked.
"Take bed 4, Millie Watkins, our 7-year-old flu patient," Bailey said, she handed Arizona a tablet with the patient's information.
"I'm on it, Dr. Bailey," Arizona said.
"You and Chief Karev are in charge of the kids with the flu," Bailey said,
"I've got it," Arizona said as she walked over the bed 4 and introduced herself to the patient and her parents.
Jo and Jenna were at the front desk having coffee together and Jenna started sneezing.
"You okay?" Jo asked.
"It's just an itch in my nose," Jenna said.
"I think you got the flu, too. Why don't you just go home and rest?" Jo said.
"Because they can't miss me now, I had promised April to help in Pit and don't like to break my promise," Jenna said.
"I guess you're not much help with the flu," Jo said.
Jenna sneezed again, she whipped her nose and looked at Jo; "I'm okay," she said.
"Hello," DeLuca said as he walked up to Jo and Jenna.
"Hello Dr. DeLuca," Jo said.
"Give me an update De...Deluca!" Jenna sneazed.
"Are you sick Dr. Wyatt?" DeLuca asked.
"Can you prep an IV, bag of LR and 4 miligrams of Zofran?" Jenna asked.
"Yeah, I got it," DeLuca said.
"I thought you weren't sick," Jo said.
"I'm not, just a little rehydrated," Jenna said.
"I'll do that for you Dr. Wyatt, DeLuca said. And isn't there something else I can do for you?
"Just keep doing what you're doing now," Jenna said.
Schmitt came running; Incoming, he said as he almost bumped Jenna over. Sorry.
Meredith, Link, Jo and Kyle stood at the entrance to the emergency room, the doors opened and two women were herded inside.
That's lie, even more of a lie than those breasts of yours, because those are as fake as you!
"You have no boobs you boobless slut!"
The two women were brought in front of the emergency room and the four doctors looked at Nicole the paramedic.
"Okay, what's going on here?" Meredith asked.
Bethany Saunders and Jade Oleander, these two women are fighting each other at the mall, Nicole explained.
"Do you know why they're fighting? Have you heard anything?" Jo asked.
"Apparently they found out that the same guy is dating," Nicole said.
"Let's get to work," Meredith said.
"I wish you luck, you need it now," Nicole said as she left.
"Let's keep these two apart," Kyle said.
"I think that's for the best," Meredith said.
Kyle, Meredith and Qadri went to trauma room 2 to examine Jade and Link, Jo and Diego went to trauma room 3 to examine Bethany.
"Nose doesn't look broken, no surgery required, I can easily fix this one, Lin said. This is going to hurt a little, are you ready?"
"Do your thing," Bethany said. Link pushed nose up and fixed it. "Ow!"
"Sorry," Link apologized
"That's quite a nasty wound on her arm, Medina page Dr. Avery to have this looked at," Jo said.
"Dr. Avery's busy today," Diego said.
"Right, get someone else from Plastic," Jo said.
"You've got it Dr. Karev," Diego said.
"I can't believe what's been done to me," Bethany said.
"That your boyfriend is a cheating douche?"
"No, that Jade would do something like that to me," Bethany said.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Jo asked.
"We're family. She and I are cousins," Bethany said.
"Well that is a plot twist I didn't see coming," Diego said.
Meredith checked Jade's injuries, when she looked out the window she saw Alex standing there, she left the trauma room and walked towards Alex.
"One Wes Harris asks about his girlfriend, she had gotten into a fight with someone at the mall and she was brought here," Alex said.
"Which of the two does he mean?" Meredith said.
"Two? You mean both of his girlfriends are here?" Alex asked.
"Yep, they're being brought in cursing at each other," Meredith said.
"Oh boy," Alex said.
Jo walked out of the trauma room and over to Alex and Meredith.
"All good in there with Bethany?" Meredith asked.
"Besides her hurt pride, she's fine," Jo said. "How's Jade?'
"The same," Meredith said.
"Well then I have some more information for you, our mall fighters are cousins," Jo said.
"What?"
"No, they aren't?"
"Yes, they are," Jo said.
"Keep me posted," Alex said.
"Will do, Karev," Meredith said.
Jackson, April, Webber, Catherine and Helm were in Catherine's patient room ready to present to case.
"Uma Paxton, 25 , here for total pelvic exenteration with flap reconstruction for a recurrent vaginal tumor," Helm said.
"Not total, Dr. Helm, we are preserving the uterus," Catherine said.
"Oh. Wow, that's possible?" Helm asked.
"It is now, because I developed the technique," Catherine said.
"My first doctors blasted me with chemo and radiation, but it came back, so they said I had to remove most of my insides, but Dr. Fox found a silver lining," Uma said.
"Dr. Webber?"
"I'll make an incision into your abdomen and remove your rectum to create a colostomy while Dr. Fox removes your bladder and creates a urostomy," Webber said.
"And then I will remove the tumor and everything but your uterus," Catherine said.
"I'll lead on your vaginal reconstruction. We'll cover any defects with skin and fat from your belly," Jackson said.
"So... not complicated," Uma said. "Man, I didn't think that I ever wanted kids until I found out that I might not be able to have any, so thank you, Dr. Fox."
"Uma, we've talked about this before, but now that the day has come, I really have to ask again. This surgery's long, it's complex, and it's very personal. Are you sure you're all right with other doctors watching from the gallery?" Catherine asked Uma.
"You're a pioneer, and this could help save more women like me. So teach away," Uma said.
"All right, guys. Let's do this," Catherine said.
Jenna, DeLuca and Schmitt walked into the ER.
"What do we have here?"
"Patient collapsed at a convenience store. Last BP 110 over 50, pulse 82."
"Ma'am, did you lose consciousness?" Jenna asked.
"Uh, no, I don't think so," Claire said.
"Hey, guys, what did you see?" Jenna asked.
"She was like, Ow, my stomach," Gabe said.
"Then she was like, Ow, my face," Eli said.
"Nice, guys. Real nice."
Jenna grabbed her light and looked into Claire's eyes; "Ma'am, do you have any other symptoms uh, dizziness or headache?"
Uh, yeah, headache because Gabe just told me today that his project is due tomorrow...and I have the flu, and I hate children, so life is punishing me," Tina said. "So if I could just get something for my stomach and some sedatives for the children... "
"Hey, guys, guys, knock it off," Jenna said, seeing that the two boys were wrestling.
"Should we call their parents?" Schmitt asked.
"I'm their parents, ever since my sister died, and clearly, I'm crushing it," Claire said. "Ow!"
"Abdomen's a little tender," DeLuca said. "Uh, Schmitt, do you want to see if CT's open?"
"Whoa, CT? No, no, I'm fine. I just have the flu, and I already took antibiotics I had left over from last year, so...," Claire said. "Bad idea?"
"Unprescribed? Yes," Jenna said. "Listen, I know that you're stressed, and maybe it is just the flu, but... Claire, if it isn't, you're really gonna wish that you'd stayed, okay?"
Arizona was still at the Pit examining one of the other kids who was lying there with flu symptoms.
"Is Seth gonna be okay?"
"He does indeed have the flu," Arizona said.
I feel nauseous and tired," Seth said.
Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated, Arizona said, she turned to one of the nurses. Nikki, give me a hand here.
"Yes, Dr. Robbins," Nikki said.
Arizona handed Niki Seth's chart and she walked away, she threw her gloves in the trash and cleaned her hands. The nurse that was assigned to Storm walked over to her.
"Hello, Dr. Robbins."
"Hey Lucia, is everything okay with Storm?" Arizona asked.
"He is doing fine now, he has made up mind on what he wants to eat later," Lucia said.
"Thank you, Lucia," Arizona said.
Jenna, DeLuca and Schmitt were in the CT room with Claire.
"Okay, just relax and try not to move, okay?"
"Are you okay?" Claire asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Jenna said.
"She sounds like me," Claire said.
"I haven't relaxed in two years. My mother used to say, "I hope you have children someday, and they're as awful to you as you were to me." And I'd say, "Joke's on you, lady. I'm never having kids." And then Cynthia died, and now I have her two human tornadoes. They're loud, and they're smelly, and they think fart jokes are hilarious, and they never stop eating. I love them, but they are disgusting."
"I think I owe my mom an apology," Schmitt said.
"Yeah, me too," Jenna said.
"Whoa," DeLuca said, as Claire's scan appeared on the screen. "Her transverse colon is... is huge."
"Toxic megacolon with peritoneal signs. We're gonna need to get her to the O.R. before her bowel perfs, okay?"
Kyle and Link stood at the front desk of the ER and looked at the tablet. Alex walked up to the front
"What are you watching?" He asked.
"Footage of the fight at the mall," Kyle replied.
"That's very unprofessional of you guys, you're doctors and you're not supposed to...," Alex said and he laid his eyes on the screen. Okay, who's who?"
"The blonde is Bethany and the one with black hair is Jade, Link said.
"Oh, that's gotta hurt, Kyle said as he saw that Jade punched Bethany said.
"Jade's got a mean right hook, Alex said.
"And here she is now being tackled by Bethany, Link said.
"What are you watching?" Meredith asked, she and Jo walked up to the 3 doctors.
"Our two fighters," Alex said.
Where did you guys get that?" Meredith asked and now she and Jo were also looking at the screen.
"When something like this happens it doesn't take long for someone to post it," Link said.
"Who attacked who first?" Jo asked.
"They attacked each other at the same time, it started with swearing and then the fight started," Kyle said.
"Jade is kicking Bethany's ass, literally," Jo said.
"And now Jade is being bitch slapped by Bethany," Alex said.
"You dirty slut!"
"If anyone's a dirty slut it's you!"
The doctors turned to see Bethany and Jade fighting with each other.
"Oh shit!"
"Security!"
Link and Kyle ran toward the two women a pulled the two apart.
Dr. Lincoln take Bethany to trauma room 3 again and Dr. Nolan take Jade to trauma room 2, Alex ordered.
"Yes, Chief Karev," Kyle said.
"Let me know when you two are done, so that I can put a security guard in front of their rooms," Alex said.
"Will do, Chief Karev," Kyle said.
Kyle and Meredith had taken Jade to the trauma room and were examining her again.
"I hate her," Jade said.
"She's your family, Kyle said.
"You don't have to like all the family members," Jade said.
"No, but I'd be more mad at the guy," Meredith said.
"Oh, I'm mad at him, too, and I'll be mad at..."
"Jade?"
"I'll make him...," Jade began, she started blinking rapidly and then it stopped and she passed out.
"Jade," Kyle said, he check-up on Jade. "No response."
"We need to get her to CT," Meredith said.
"Qadri, we're heading to CT, you go and make sure an O.R. is ready for us," Kyle said.
"Yes, Dr. Nolan," Qadri said.
Tom and Amelia were in the skills lab, were VR glasses to practice for the surgery.
"I was hoping, if we start medially, we could remove the tumor en bloc," Tom said.
"It's not working," Amelia said.
"I know," Tom said. "Just...let's try coming from the inferior side."
"Maybe if you approach it superiorly...," Amelia suggested.
"I'm."
Amelia took her VR glasses off; Yeah, it's still not working.
"You know, I can see that, Shepherd, Tom said as he took of his glasses. That's why we're practicing.
"And at this rate, we will be ready in, what... five years?
"We can do this," Tom said.
"Consult in the O.R. I'll be right back," Amelia said.
"Wh-What... You're... You're leaving?" Tom asked, Amelia left the room. "Do me a favor and come back with a little positivity!' Tom sighed and he put the glasses on again.
Jackson, April, Webber, Catherine and Helm were in the O.R. about the begin with Uma's sugery, Helm looked up and saw that the gallery was filling up.
"Full house."
"10 blade," Catherine said.
April handed Cathrine the 10 blade and Cathrine started to cut open Uma.
Arizona was in the cafeteria lunch line, Amelia walked in and joined Arizona.
"Hey," Amelia said.
"Hi," Arizona said. "You okay?"
"Yeah, busy Tom and I are working on a plan of how we're going to handle Catherine's tumor, Amelia said.
"And how's that going?" Arizona asked.
"We're working on it so we don't quite have a plan yet," Amelia said.
"I'm sure you guys will come up with something," Arizona said.
"I hope so, but I need some food now, I can't think on an empty stomach," Amelia said. "Do you want to have lunch together?"
"I can't, Arizona said.
"Arizona look what almost happened when we were in quarantine," Amelia began.
"You mean when we almost kissed," Arizona said.
"Yeah, I feel like ever since then you've been trying to avoid me," Amelia said.
"We're both really busy, so it's not on purpose or anything if that's what you're thinking," Arizona said.
"Right, I mean that almost kiss was just because we were kind of caught up in the moment," Amelia said.
"Is that how you see it?"
"Yeah, Amelia said. Do you see that moment in any other way?"
"No, I don't," Arizona said.
"So you're not trying to avoid me?" Amelia asked.
I'm not trying to avoid you," Arizona said.
"Then we got that out of the way and everything's okay between us?" Amelia asked.
"Everything is okay between us," Arizona said.
"So we can eat together if everything is okay," Amelia said.
"I already had other lunch arrangements. I promised Storm I'd have lunch with him," Arizona said.
"That boy found during the windstorm?" Amelia asked.
"That boy, yes," Arizona said.
"You two have a bond or something?"
"I think so, and it's good if he has someone to rely on," Arizona said.
"And who better than Dr. Sweetheart," Amelia said.
"Yes, good luck with your plan," Arizona said.
"Thank you and have a good lunch," Amelia said.
"Thank you."
Arizona paid and walked toward the cafeteria exit and headed toward Storm's room.
Jenna, DeLuca and Schmitt had brought Claire to the O.R.
"I thought I just had the flu and the antibiotics would knock it out," Claire said.
"No, no. The antibiotics wiped out the good bacteria in your intestine, which caused severe inflammation that made you pass out. But we caught it just in time," Jenna said.
"Just in time? Like, before it killed me?" Claire asked. "Oh, God. I-I... I-I can't die. Those boys can't lose another parent. Eli just got to the point where he's not crying at night. They... They need me. They need." Claire started to scream.
"Okay, the bowel seems to have ruptured, Jenna said. Let's, uh, get her intubated and prepped.
"She's moving too much," DeLuca said.
"Okay, let's push 100 of propofol with 100 of sux," Jenna said.
"Already on it."
"Good," Jenna said.
"I… Oops, Oh my god."
"Oh, God, did…"
"I'm so sorry," he said.
"Okay, everybody stop and listen to me! The propofol and sux had just ben accidentally injected in my IV, which means I've about 30 seconds until I'll be paralyzed. So let's page the Chief. DeLuca start the surgery stat. I need someone to put a tube in me because once I'm done, I'm gonna lose my airway and if I can't breathe then I'll die. I would appreciate it somebody could help me by breaking my fa.."
Jenna collapsed onto the floor. The O.R staff helped Jenna of the ground and put her one the bed. And DeLuca had started working on Claire.
"Okay, Schmitt, look at me. Don't rock the laryngoscope, okay?" DeLuca said. 10 blade. "Now, drive the tube in between his vocal chords.'
"Dr. Wyatt, you may experience some discomfort now," Schmitt said.
"Schmitt, she can't hear you," DeLuca said.
"I've never done this," Schmitt said.
"That doesn't mean you can't, all right?" DeLuca said. "Now, Bovie."
Schmitt managed to get the tube in; "I did it. I did it!"
"Okay, do not stop bagging, okay?" DeLuca said. "Get her upstairs, hook her up to some fluids.
"Now. Come on. Let's go."
Tom and Amelia were in study arguing; "I know, Shepherd. I know. I've run every one of those scenarios!"
"I'm just trying to be realistic."
"Well, maybe if you'd stop running off to consults..."
"That has nothing to do with the fact that we are staring down the impossible here."
"Where is the Amelia Shepherd that looked at Nicole Herman's inoperable brain tumor and said, "Yes, I can, and I should"?"
"That was Brain Tumor Amelia, Amelia said. Non-Brain Tumor Amelia is a reasonable surgeon who asks reasonable questions," Amelia said. "And she is currently speaking in the third person, so, you know...This is what we are dealing with. We have to visualize this."
"Well, that would be lovely, but it's not an option."
"Yes, it is," Jo said as she walked into the room. "Okay, you guys were talking really loud, so I'm not gonna apologize for eavesdropping despite your angry faces."
"Jo..."
"No, th-there is a way to 3D visualize a tumor like that. It's brand-new, and they're about to do the first launch of it at UCSD. It's called the ORBEYE," Jo said. "Can I just see your..."
"That's... Yeah, that's fine. G-Go ahead," Tom said, giving his laptop to Jo and the turned to Amelia. "Who is she?"
"She's a ortho fellow," Amelia said.
"Uh, am I dreaming, because she, uh, just walked in with a miracle, and she looks like a... mermaid," Tom said.
"It's still a giant tumor, Tom," Amelia said.
"Just let me have this," Tom said.
Meredith, Kyle and Qadri were in the CT room looking at the scans of Jade's
"I see a swelling pressing against her skull, that explains why she just went out like that," Kyle said.
"Must have just happened during the fight. She didn't have any head injuries when she got here," Meredith said.
"Lucky we got here in time. Okay, we can get her to the O.R. now," Kyle said. "Qadri you got us an O.R.?"
"O.R. 3 I have arranged and everything and everyone is ready," Qadri said.
"Qadri, go ahead and go to the O.R. and tell everyone what we're dealing with," Kyle said.
"Yes, Dr. Nolan,' Qadri said.
Qadri left the room. Meredith and Kyle walked towards the scan room, they took Jade out of the machine and put her back on the bed, they rolled her out of the CT room and walked towards the elevators.
"Are you stressed out Dr. Grey?" Kyle asked.
"Why do you ask?" Meredith said.
"You keep looking at your phone all the time and then I always hear a disappointing sigh," Kyle said.
"It's my son's birthday today," Meredith said.
"Congratulations, how old is he?" Kyle asked.
"He turned 5," Meredith replied.
"5 is always a fun age," Kyle said.
"Only now I don't know how to plan his party, because I know nothing about superheroes," Meredith said.
"Superhero theme?"
"Yeah, and I could use a superhero to save my son's party," Meredith said.
"I had so many superhero themed parties as a kid," Kyle said.
"Really?"
"Yes, I really loved superheroes as a kid, still do by the way, I would want to spend a whole salary on deluxe Batman costume," Kyle said.
"You would do that?" Merdith asked.
"Yeah, I would do that," Kyle said. "If you want, I can help you with your son's party."
"Oh, then you really are my hero, I'll send you my address and the time you need to be there," Meredith said.
"Don't worry Dr. Grey, I'll be a great help, Kyle said.
"Thanks again and call me Meredith, Meredith said.
"I'll Meredith and then you can call me Kyle," Kyle said.
Arizona was in Storm's room and they were having lunch together.
"Do you like your sandwich, Storm?" Arizona asked.
"Yes," Storm said. "How is it in the Pit?"
"There are a lot of people with the flu so it's a busy place there," Arizona said. "But for now I'm here with you, so then we'll talk about something else, what do you want to talk about?"
"I don't know," Storm said."
"How about if we color your cast, then I can ask the doctors to give it a nice color or in your case two colors, What colors do you like?" Arizona asked.
"I don't know yet," Storm said.
"You don't have to decide now, take your time," Arizona said.
"Are you leaving soon?" Storm asked.
"Yes, as I said there are many sick people and they need my help, Arizona said. When my shift is over I'll come see you, okay?"
"Okay," Storm said.
"And I know this isn't all easy for you, but I'm here for you and you can tell me anything," Arizona said.
"Okay, Dr. Robbins," Storm said.
"You can say Arizona," Arizona insisted.
"Okay, Dr. Arizona," Storm said.
"That's not quite what I meant, but that's good for now," Arizona said.
Schmitt was in Jenna's room with one of the nurses and checked her vitals.
"Keep an eye on her and let me know if she's awake," Schmitt said.
"Will do doctor,"
"Everything will be fine Dr. Wyatt," Schmitt said.
Meredith was on the phone. Yeah, no. I get it. Thank you. Thanks, she said and she hung up the phone.
"So how is Jade doing? Link asked.
"She is going to make a full recovery and no brain damage, Meredith said.
"Good," Link said. Everything else okay?
"No. I have a bunch of -year-olds on their way to my house for a birthday party, and Hulk just canceled, Meredith complained."
"The Hulk."
"What?"
"It's "The Hulk," not "Hulk."
"Whatever."
"I could help," Link said.
"Seriously?"
"After the day we just had, I could use a party, Link said.
"For 5 year-olds? She asked.
"I was a Cub Scout. I make a mean s'more, Link said. But, I mean, if you don't need the help..."
"Thank you, this great now I've you and Dr. Nolan helping me," Meredith said.
"Cool," Link said.
"Is it really not too much stress for you?" Meredith asked.
"Nah, I don't believe in stress," Link said.
"You don't believe in stress?" Meredith asked.
Uma surgery was still going on, Jackson noticed that his mother was stretching her back and that it looked liked it hurt her.
"Something wrong?" Jackson asked.
"Tissue's too friable," Catherine said.
"Can I help?" Webber asked.
"You can stop talking so I can hear myself think," Catherine said. "Wipes." April grabbed a wipe and cleaned Catherine's head. "Hemostat, quickly."
"Mom, if you're in pain, I can take over. It's fine," Jackson said.
"Yes, Jackson, I'm in pain. I'm in pain because, when this woman wakes up, she will not have a uterus. The radiation has fried her tissues. It's falling apart in my hands. No matter how many times I try, I cannot safely separate the uterus without compromising the blood supply. It's literally disintegrating right before my eyes. Her body's been through too much. You can't fix that. Neither can I."
"Okay."
"No one can fix this," Catherine said. "I'm taking out the uterus. Bovie."
April handed Catherine the Bovie; Here you go Dr. Fox, she said. Catherine took out the uterus.
"Close her up," Catherine said.
Catherine loosened her gown, took of her scrub cap and left the O.R. with anger.
DeLuca was still in the O.R working on Claire, Alex had gone to the O.R to get the know that what happened to Jenna.
"Wyatt was given paralytics?" Alex asked.
"Yes, but it was a mistake, and we got her intubated and off the a room," DeLuca said. "And I've also isolated the area of perforation and washed her out."
"Since it's toxic megacolon you're gonna have to…"
"Perform a subtotal colectomy with an ileostomy, I did that too," DeLuca said.
"All right, what's left?" Alex asked.
"I… I don't know," DeLuca replied.
"You don't know?" Alex questioned.
"It's my first time, okay? Can you just tell me what to do next?" DeLuca asked.
"You don't know because there is nothing left. You did it, you stepped up, All right, well, don't get too swelled up about it,' Alex said. "But great work. Good job. Close."
Alex walked out of the O.R and DeLuca started to get ready to close Claire up.
Schmitt was in Jenna's room removing the tube; Welcome back, Dr. Wyatt.
That hurt…, How did the…
DeLuca finished the surgery, the did the subtotal colectomy and she is in recovery now.
Oh great, thank you, Jenna said.
And thank you for not dying, Schmitt said.
Okay, Schmitt we're done now, Jenna said.
Schmitt nodded and left the room. Jenna grabbed the pudding cup of the table and started eating the pudding.
Arizona had gotten a page from the nurses that Detective Perkins was at the hospital and wanted to talk to her.
"Detective Perkins," Arizona said.
"Dr. Robbins," Det. Perkins said.
"You know just say Arizona, that's easier," Arizona said.
"Silvia, you can call me Silvia," Det. Perkins said.
"And how's the investigation going Silvia?" Arizona asked.
"We're still busy and unfortunately I can't say more about it," Det. Perkins said.
"I understand that," Arizona said.
"How's Storm?" Det. Perkins asked.
"He's doing a little better, he's talking more," Arizona told Detective Perkins.
"That's great," Det. Perkins said.
"He won't tell anything about what happened to him," Arizona said.
"Okay, too bad," Det. Perkins said.
"He needs time and forcing him won't help him to tell about it," Arizona said.
"And it might even damage him more and he will stop talking again," Det. Perkins said.
"Right, yes and we don't want that," Arizona said. "Why did you want to see me?"
"I have something for Storm," Det. Perkins said, she opened her bag and handed Arizona a stuffed monkey toy. "This is his stuffed animal Kirby."
"Where did you get this?" Arizona asked.
"His mother had given it to me, If I will ever find Storm he would know I am on the side of good, I thought he might like to have it again," Det. Perkins said.
"Thank you Silvia, I will give it to him, Det. Perkins said. "And if he will tell me anything about what happened to him I will let you know."
"Thank you Arizona."
Arizona told her that it was no problem at all and Det. Perkins left the hospital again. Arizona put the toy in her pocket and walked away.
Link and Kyle were over at Meredith's house and were helping her setting the place up for Bailey's birthday.
"You saved my life," Meredith said. "Thank you for doing this."
"You really don't have to keep saying that. I'm happy to help," Link said. "You seemed kind of... stressed."
"Thought you didn't believe in stress," Meredith said.
"I believe it exists. I just don't believe in letting it run your life," Link said. "I mean, spending your childhood in a hospital, losing half the friends you made there to a cancer you survived, watching your parents split up because they could barely afford your treatments... made me kind of picky about what I let get to me."
"Dude! Look at this place! We did this in, like, a half an hour, Kyle said as he entered the living room.
"And I was an ass to you all day. I literally did nothing to deserve this."
"Ready or not, here we are!" One of the mothers said as she and the kids entered the house.
"Happy birthday, Bailey!" Meredith said, as she hugged her son. Come on, you guys! Presents go right over there."
"Wait. Are you Thor?" Bailey asked Link.
"I'm."
"So cool!"
"Now, which one of you kids stole my hammer?" Link asked.
Catherine was sitting in the attending's lounge, Jackson, April and Webber entered.
"I completed the ostomies, and Jackson closed with a flap," Webber said. "Uma's in recovery."
"How is she doing?" Catherine said.
"Stable."
"Now, look, Mom, I know you're frustrated, okay?" Jackson said.
"Frustrated? I'm livid. You questioned my ability to complete that surgery. You inferred that I am somehow not capable..."
"You had a massive tumor on your spine, and you didn't say anything about it," Jackson said. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I told people who could help," Catherine said.
"Good Lord, that's offensive, Webber said. Do you have any idea what that sounds like?"
"Richard, please. How am I supposed to depend on you when you're hanging out in bars, swinging baseball bats?" Catherine said.
"No, no, now, that's not his business...," Webber began.
"Wait, what?"
"That's not what we're talking about," Webber said.
"You all are acting like such big old babies," Catherine said. "This is my problem!"
"Oh, the hell it is! Webber shouted. No more than my first wife's Alzheimer's was her problem. This is all our problems," Catherine.
"Are you serious? That's disgusting," Jackson said.
"Now, I was not wrong not to tell you," Catherine said.
"You were... This is what you always do. It's exactly what you always do...now, you try to control everyone and everything that you're around," Jackson said.
"And look what happens when I don't. I'm gone for two days, and my husband has an arrest record. I'm married to a felon," Catherine said.
"Mom, he just said they were trying to give shots to people with AA chips. I would've smashed the damn place up myself," Jackson said.
"Thank you. Uh, I mean, that... that's... that's still, uh, no... no excuse for my behavior. I mean, I realize that now, but..."
"We can handle bad news, all right?"
"We're surgeons."
"And we're your family. We deserve the truth!"
"You two both know if I had told you any sooner you would've driven me crazy, ordering every test under the sun. At least Thomas..."
"Don't... Don't say that man's name again," Webber said.
"Richard, honestly, your jealousy is your least attractive quality," Catherine said.
"And lying doesn't look very good on you, either, Catherine," Webber said.
"Okay everyone shut up!" April yelled.
"April, stay out of this," Jackosn said.
"I'm not going to be out here, we're not married anymore, Jackson, but you and I will always be family because of our children, their grandmother is sick and their father is a mess, April said.
"I'm not a mess, Jackson said.
"You are now and that's because you've bottled up all your feelings until now," April said, she turned to Catherine. And Catherine, "I understand that's very difficult for you, but you didn't handle it right and that's why it's come to this now." She turned to Webber and pointed to him. "And you."
"Me?"
No disrespect Dr. Webber but you need to stop being a jealous ass right now. The history between Tom Koracick and Catherine doesn't matter right now, he's the one who will do anything to save your wife's life and you're going to act like this? You should be grateful that he is taking this on and wants to go all the way. There is no time for this pesky jealousy of yours now," April said. Everyone was quiet, April looked around and looked the almost stunned faces. "Sorry, that was out of line."
"No need to be sorry, April, this had to be said," Catherine said.
"Catherine everyone in this room is here for you and we want the best for you," April said.
"Thank you, April," Catherine said, as she gave April a hug.
"Come all to my house later, I'll cook and then we can all talk about this quietly, okay?"
"Okay."
Claire was in recovery and DeLuca and Jenna were doing a check-up.
"But, luckily, Dr. DeLuca was here to take over for me," Jenna said.
"Wow. I wish I could've seen that," Claire said.
"Are you okay?"
"We're sorry."
"For what? Claire asked. "You don't have to be sorry. Today was a really scary day. And I'm gonna need both of you to help me for a little while. You can start by going into my wallet, getting some money, getting yourself some pizza. Aunt Claire is starving, so save me some."
"Yes, ma'am, Troy said. He and his brother walked over to Claire's purse and looked for her wallet.
"Okay."
"You can't eat, Claire," DeLuca said.
"Shh. It makes them feel better to help," Claire said. "Ohh, I can't believe I almost died."
"Well, you were in good hands," Jenna said.
"Thank you for saving my life," Claire said.
"You're very welcome," DeLuca said.
"And you," Claire said to Jenna. "Thank you for making me stay."
"Yeah."
Jo was standing at the front desk of the Pit, Alex came up and stood next to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"I'm okay, I feel so sorry for Bethany and Jade, they will both probably be charged with assault, destruction of property and what kind of punishment will that jerk who cheated on them both get?"
"None," Alex said.
"None and that's the problem, he's the cause but he gets away with it," Jo said.
"I do think he's lost both his girlfriend's now, that's his karma," Alex said.
"They're both better off without him," Jo said.
"True," Alex agreed.
"But this will haunt them forever, because the Internet is forever and everyone will know who those two are," Jo said.
"That's sad," Alex said.
"I'm glad I married you and not some jerk like that guy," Jo said, she turned to her husband and gave him a kiss.
"Thank you, And I'm really glad I married you too," Alex said, giving Jo a kiss back. "Let's go home."
"I can't, I promised Jenna that I would bring her home, so I'll see you later," Jo said.
Catherine was in Uma's room to tell her the bad news, that despite her attempt that she failed to save her uterus and removed it and Uma burst into tears.
Arizona walked toward Storm's room, she looked in and saw that he was already asleep. Arizona carefully opened the door and went inside, she put his hug down on the bedside and left the room again.
Helm walked into the intern locker room and saw that Schmitt was trying to put in lenses.
"What's he doing?" She asked.
"Trying to touch his eyeball," Parker replied.
"Why?"
"Because I want to look as different as I feel, Schmitt said and he tried to put the contact lenses again, but he could do it. Ugh."
"Do you want me to do it?" Helm asked.
"Yes, please," Schmitt said.
Helm walked over to Schmitt and help him get his contact lenses in.
April walked toward the daycare, Jackson came walking toward her.
"Hey."
"Hi," April said. "Wanna pick up the kids together?"
"All right," Jackson said. "April..."
"You don't have to say anything, it's fine," April said.
"I wanted to say thank you, my mother was right what you said needed to be said and you're right even though we're no longer married we will always be a family," Jackson said.
"I will always be there for you Jackson, because I know you will always be there for me," April said.
"Of course I'll," Jackson said. "And thank you for dinner later, very kind of you."
"No problem, I think will be good for everyone," April said.
"I hope so," Jackson said.
Jackson and April arrived at the daycare and entered to get their kids.
Meredith, Link and Kyle were sitting at the dinner table while Bailey and the other kids were playing.
"So Dr. Link, if you had to choose which superhero you can be, who would you choose?" Kyle asked.
"Well the kids already I've deciced to I should be Thor and he is cool," Link said. "What about you Dr. Nolan?"
"Easy, I choose Batman," Kyle said.
"And if had to choose from the Avengers?"
"Iron-Man, because his suit is awesome," Kyle said.
"What about you Dr. Grey?" Link asked.
"I don't know anything about superheroes, so I'm staying out of this," Meredith said.
While Kyle and Link kept talking about superheroes, Meredith grabbed herself a piece of cake and watched her son having a goodtime and this made her smile.
Next Time: Amelia and Koracick take on a dangerous surgery on Catherine; Meredith is urged by Richard to visit her dad before his time is up.
