Chapter 2

This chapter continues immediately where the last one left off.

Tim and Lucy are standing in the middle of the room facing each other. Tim is getting annoyed because for a moment it seemed like Lucy was going to tell him what was goin on until Angela, who was sitting at her desk watching their conversation closely, saw Lucy looking upset and decided it was time for her to step in and break up their little reunion.

Angela: Lucy! Welcome back. How was UC school?

Lucy: Angela, hey. It was amazing. I really learned so much while I was there.

Tim: So, you do know how to talk in sentences that are more than one word long.

Lucy: Excuse me?

Angela: Tim! Lucy has been gone for 3 months don't you think she deserves a warm welcome not this hostile crap you have been giving her for the past several minutes.

Tim: You have no idea what you are talking about, Lopez.

Angela: I have been watching you torment Lucy for about 5 minutes now Tim, so I think I have some idea of what I'm talking about.

Tim: So, what you decided to what? To come here and save Lucy from me?

Angela: Something like that.

Tim: Angela, really? I'm not some monster that Lucy needs to be saved from.

Angela: So, then what's with all the negativity?

Tim: I just want to understand why Lucy doesn't want to work with me anymore.

Angela: It's about damn time you two stopped working together.

Tim: Seriously?

Angela: You had to know that eventually she would want to move up, work a different beat, do something different, why else do you think she went to UC school in the first place if she would never switch to working UC cases?

Lucy: Angela, Tim thinks I went to UC school because he forced me to go, he pushed me out the door and gave me no other choice but to go.

Tim: I didn't force you to do anything Lucy, but yeah you were the one who was going to turn it down, ruin any chances of ever working intelligence. In case you forgot Lucy, I had to beg you to make the right choice, to do the right thing for you.

Lucy: Angela, I loved UC school believe me I did, but tell Tim he was wrong, that this wasn't the right choice for me to make.

Angela: Tim Lucy said

Tim: I heard what she said, I'm standing right here. Lucy, come on can't you just look at me, talk to me?

Lucy: No.

Tim: Why not?

Aaron: Tim, the shop is set up and ready to go.

Lucy: You should go.

Tim: Okay, but only if you promise to meet me for lunch so we can discuss why you hate me right now.

Lucy: I don't hate you

Tim: So why won't you talk to me?

Lucy: I have nothing to say

Tim: That is hard to believe, you always have tons to say. I haven't seen you in 3 months Lucy! 3 months. Not one word from you and now you won't even look at me in the eyes. I just don't understand what happened.

Lucy: And whose fault is that?

Tim: Excuse me? I'm not the one who left for Sacramento for 3 moths

Angela: Tim, I think you should go. Lucy, would you like to shadow me for the day?

Lucy: Yes, of course I would love that.

Angela: Perfect, I'll clear it with Grey.

And before Tim had a chance to process what was going on, Angela and Lucy walked away leaving him standing alone facing Aaron.

Aaron: What happened between you and Lucy?

Tim: Get to the shop

Aaron: Yes sir.

Tim spent the rest of the day trying to find Lucy so he could talk to her alone but she was doing a really good job of avoiding him. Tim decided that this whole thing was ridiculous so he knocked on Grey's door with the intention of declining Lucy's transfer request so that they could continue riding together and eventually get their work relationship back to normal. Sargent Grey was sitting at his desk when Tim knocked and motioned for Tim to enter.

Tim: I spoke to her and her request to transfer is being denied.

Sargent Grey: I guess she didn't tell you then.

Tim: Tell me what?

Sargent Grey: She will be working with Angela until Nyla comes back from maternity leave.

Tim: Nyla was supposed to be back last month.

Sargent Grey: Yes, but she has decided to stay home a bit longer with the new baby

Tim: But Lucy isn't even a detective.

Sargent Grey: Not yet, but the exam is in 2 weeks and we all believe that working with Lopez will better her chances of doing well and earning that promotion as soon as she passes the exam.

Tim: This is crazy

Sargent Grey: What is?

Tim: Lucy and I were doing so well, why do you think that it's a good idea sending her to work with the detectives?

Sargent Grey: It was her idea Tim, and I think it's a good one. And I thought that you two would have spoken about this before she asked me.

Tim: Well we didn't talk about this, and I for one think this is a terrible mistake.

Sargent Grey: Than I guess it's a good thing this is not your call to make.

Tim storms out of the office angrier than he was before. He looked around the room, didn't see Lucy but he saw Angela doing paperwork at her desk.

Tim: Lopez, can I have a word with you in private?

Angela: Sure.

They walk together in silence towards the interrogation rooms. They walk inside and Tim locks the door behind them.

Tim: What's going on with Lucy?

Angela: I don't know what you are talking about

Tim: Sargent Grey told me that she will now be working as your partner

Angela: That's corrects

Tim: Why?

Angela: Why what?

Tim: I just don't understand what happened. One minute Lucy and I are so close to... and then she goes to UC school, and I believe that when she gets back, we will finally become... but the second she gets home she refuses to look at me, talk to me and I just don't understand what happened.

Angela: Lucy hasn't said anything to me about you all day. I have no idea what happened but if I do find out and only if I think it's important for you to know, will I tell you what I know but until then can you stop harassing both me and Lucy.

Tim: I just want my friend back

Angela: Maybe you should tell her that

Tim: I would if I could, but she won't talk to me and believe me I tried.

Angela: Maybe just wait it out and see what happens tomorrow.

As much as Tim hated waiting he kew he had no other choice but to see what would happen tomorrow. Tomorrow came and went and Tim didn't see Lucy at all, when he asked Angela she clamed up and said didn't know what was going on but Tim could tell that there was something Angela wasn't telling him.

Time passsed and no matter how hard Tim tried to talk to Lucy, to find out what happened, to understand why she was upset with him Lucy refused to talk to him. Tim tried calling, texting but she never picked up. He tried getting in touch with Tamara who told him that she was staying far out of this as this was none of her business.

After 6 months of getting the silent treatment from Lucy, Tim decided that as much as he hated the idea, he simply had no other choice but to talk to Lucy's boyfriend. So, Tim took a deep breath and knocked on the door of ADA Chris Sanford. The door was slightly open, so when Tim knocked it creaked as it moved open a little more. Chris, who was sitting at his desk, looked up and smiled sadly when he saw Tim.

Chris: Took you long enough

Tim: Excuse me?

Chris: To apologize

Tim: I was wondering if you could help me get in touch with Lucy.

Chris: What?!

Tim: I need to talk to Lucy, and she is ignoring my calls, I know this is weird, me coming to you about this but I was hoping you would be a decent enough man to help me with this.

Chris: Tim, this is definitely strange, you coming here, regarding Lucy. And as much as a part of me would love to kick you where it hurts, I won't because that's not me but

Tim: You still won't help me.

Chris: It's not that I won't help. It's that I can't help.

Tim: What's the difference?

Chris: When was the last time you spoke to Lucy?

Tim: The night you called me and asked me to talk to her about going to UC school.

Chris: So, she didn't tell you that we broke up?

Tim: What? No. She never said anything to me.

Chris: I would love to help you Tim, but I haven't spoken to Lucy since I gave her back the key to her apartment.

Tim: I'm sorry, I honestly didn't know.

Chris: It's okay. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

Tim walked out of Chris's office and his head was spinning. Lucy broke up with Chris but never said anything to her. Tim was hurt that she was ignoring him, avoiding him and not talking to him about her life like she used to. Tim knew he had one more option, one that he was hoping he wouldn't have to use but seeing as he now had no other choice he got back into his car and drove to the little sushi place that he knew Lucy always went to for dinner on Tuesday nights.

When he got there, he smiled to himself when he saw that Lucy was sitting at the table alone. Tim got out of his car, locked the door, said a silent prayer that he wasn't making a huge mistake cornering Lucy like this, and he went inside the restaurant.

Tim: Can I join you?

Lucy: No.

Tim: No?

Lucy: Yeah

Tim pulls out a chair a sits down across from Lucy.

Lucy: What are you doing?

Tim: Sitting with you

Lucy: I never said you could join me.

Tim: You said yes

Lucy: No. Tim, I said yes that I said no you can't sit.

Tim: Why not?

Lucy: Because I'm not alone and I don't think my friend would appreciate your company right now.

Tim: Why are you lying to me?

Lucy: I'm not.

Tim: There is no one here besides you and me.

Lucy: Not that it is any of your business, but my friend went to the bathroom, and you better be gone before they get back.

Tim: Fine then you make this conversation quick because I'm not leaving until you and I talked about us?

Lucy: There is nothing to talk about Tim we are fine.

Tim: The hell we are Lucy, you haven't spoken to me in over 6 months. You have been ignoring me, avoiding me. I am not leaving until you tell me why you hate me.

Rachel: I would love to hear this story also.

Tim: Rachel? What are you doing here?

Lucy: I told you I wasn't alone.
