"Let's go Squirtle!" On her way into the Vermillion City, Kaleigh was stopped by a pokemon trainer for a battle. The trainer threw his pokeball up and out came Squirtle. Kaleigh then threw her pokeball, letting out Riolu. She closed her eyes as she raised her hand to catch it, though it missed her hand and hit her head.
"HAHAHAHA!" The trained laughed with his Squirtle while Kaleigh rubbed her head, a bit embarrassed. "Squirtle use rapid spin!" The trainer commanded thrusting his right arm out towards his opponent. The Squirtle took a few steps quickly before launching itself into the air, tucking its body into the shell and spinning towards Riolu.
"Riolu jump! Then use quick attack!" Kaleigh called out just in time for Riolu to jump above Squirtle letting it fly by. Landing and charging at Squirtle while it was getting back up. Tackling Squirtle sent it onto its back where it painced to get up.
"No Squirtle!" The trainer cried out, making Kaleigh smile a bit. "Riolu use bullet punch!" Riolu barked as his paws started glowing, his paws moved quickly as it attacked Squirtle sending it into a tree.
"Squirtle use water gun!" It got up easily and quickly shot water at Riolu sending him back a bit. "Riolu use quick attack!" Riolu ran at Squirtle, slamming his body into it sending it into a tree.
"Squirtle…" It whined sliding to the ground. "Come on Squirtle get up!" The trainer demanded. Kaleigh watched as the pokemon struggled to stand up. "It's clear that I have won, don't push it anymore." Kaleigh tried to insist but the trainer ignored her. "Squirtle used water pulse!" Using both hands Squirtle charged up the attack before quickly releasing it at Riolu. Riolu was shot back into Kaleigh who was also pushed back by the attack.
"Riolu are you okay?" Kaleigh asked, Riolu in her arms. He opened his eyes and nodded his head slowly before pushing himself out of her arms. "Riolu…" Kaleigh worried. Riolu stood back in position to continue fighting and barked at Kaleigh. "Okay, Riolu use bite!" Kaleigh called out.
Riolu ran over to Squirtle as it tried to dodge the attack But being faster Riolu was able to grab Squirtle and bit the back of its neck. Squirtle cried out and squirmed around trying to get Riolu off, unsuccessful the Squirtle fell to the ground fainting.
"Squirtle!" The trainer ran forward towards the fainted pokemon and picked it up. Riolu walked over to Kaleigh who started using a potion on it. "Is your Squirtle okay?" Kaleigh asked returning Riolu to his pokeball. The trainer signed as he returned his own pokemon and looked over at Kaleigh.
"Ya, I'll go to the pokemon center in Vermillion to heal Squirtle." The trainer stood back up and walked over to Kaleigh. "Here." He said while he held out his hand. Kaleigh looked at the hand and held out her hand slowly. The trainer dropped 400 pokedollars into her hand. She looked at him slightly confused.
"Why did you give me this?" Kaleigh question. "It's for beating me, when you win in a pokemon battle you get money" Kaleigh's eyes slightly widened as she looked at the money in her hand and put it into her backpack.
Kaleigh then continued down the road into Vermillion City. She could smell a salty aroma in the air. She walked around the streets for a bit, looking around at the shops until she saw the pokemon center and went in to heal Riolu from the battle earlier. It didn't take long to heal Riolu and she was able to leave fairly quickly, allowing her to explore Vermillion more. While walking streets someone bumped into her knocking her off her feet.
"Watch it!" Kaleigh heard from the person who kept running down the street. "Prick." Kaleigh thought to herself. Getting up, she brushed herself off and looked down in the direction the person had come from. She walked down the road and squinted up at a building with lightning bolts everywhere. She walked over to the window and peeked in. Not seeing anything she decided to go inside.
"Who let this baby in?" Kaleigh turned around quickly and looked up at a man who was huge and muscular. Startled Kaleigh backed away from him quickly, stumbling over her feet she fell back making the man laugh at her.
"She scares easily!" The man laughed. Kaleigh huffed and pushed herself back up but kept her distance. "Name's Lt. Surge, so did ya come to challenge me?" Lt. Surge asked taking a step closer. "Ch-challenge?" Kaleigh stuttered. "To a gym battle, I'm guessing you want the Thunder Badge."
"Gym battle? Then he must be a gym leader!" Kaleigh thought her eyes lit up slightly as she looked at him. "10 years ago did you go to Celadon City? And if you did do you know anyone by Ameila Blythe?" Kaleigh quickly finding some courage asked the question. The gym leader stared at the child with a raised brow and shook his head while raising his hands.
"What a weird question, but no I don't know that person nor did I go to Celdon City 10 years ago." Kaleigh frowned and rubbed the back of her neck. "Sorry… I'm just looking for someone."
"Like who?" Lt. Surge questioned, though got no answer as Kaleigh stood there quietly. She had one hand balled up into a fist. "How am I going to find him? I can't just ask every gym leader, word will get around about a strange girl and my mother will find me!" "Hello?!" The gym leader snapped his fingers in front of Kaleigh's face pulling her out of her thoughts. "S-sorry!" Kaleigh backed up as Lt. Surge had come too close for comfort.
"Kid, who are you looking for?" Lt. Surge questioned again. Kaleigh shook her head and took a couple steps to the left. "I'll just ah g-go!" She rushed around Lt. Surge, hoping that if she left now he would eventually forget her, but he was quick in grabbing onto her small wrist and pulled her back.
"Ow!" Kaleigh groaned as the gym leader didn't realize the strength he had used on the child. He let go of her and knelt down to her eye level.
"Sorry, did mean to hurt ya." Lt. Surge apologized as he got a good look at Kaleigh. "You look familiar, have you been to my gym before?" He questioned to which Kaleigh shook her head. He rubbed his chin thinking. Kaleigh on the other hand slowly simmied her feet one at a time to move away without drawing attention to herself. That was until Lt. Surge stood up, grabbed Kaleigh's wrist once again and started to drag her behind him.
"H-hey! Let me go!" Kaleigh shouted at the gym leader, trying to pull her hand out of his grip. She was pulled over to a wall and Lt. Surge looked around among papers on a bulletin board and pulled one off. He held the piece of paper next to Kaleigh and looked between them. Kaleigh stopped struggling against Lt. Surge as she noticed him comparing her to whatever was on the paper.
"You're the missing girl…" Kaleigh's face was drained of all colour as Lt. Surge said that. Quickly shaking her head she tried to kick and scream to get away from him. Lt. Surge was surprised by the action of the girl. "Calm down kid." Lt. Surge tried to reason with her but was punched in the gut and was forced to let go. Kaleigh stopped and looked at what happened finding Riolu again out of his pokeball and had used bullet punch on the gym leader.
"Heh, that little baby packs a punch." Lt. Surge groaned holding his abdomen. "Riolu run!" Kaleigh screamed and ran out of the gym with Lt. Surge struggling to follow them.
