He pulled her along behind him, her wrist held tightly but gently in his hand. She could feel his heart racing, the surprise and fear she saw in those slate eyes made her uneasy. She didn't know what they had just witnessed, it was unlike anything she had ever seen. She could only assume it was magic, just like him. When they made it inside he let out a sigh and threw himself against the door, his fists balled against the glass that made up the small window overlooking the yard. The wood of the door groaned under the force pressed upon it.
"What in the world was that?" She whispered. Placing a soft hand on his shoulder. "Thankfully no one lives there anymore." He shrugged her hand away. His throat tightened as he tried to choke down the rage threatening to burst. "There were rumors it was haunted, left abandoned after old Mrs. Snape died."
"It was haunted, but not by ghosts." He said calmly as he straightened himself. He had suppressed the rage, for now, hopefully, he could hold it until he left her. She didn't deserve the sweltering anger he felt in his every fiber to be unloaded on her. She was just a muggle, existing in ignorance. She had no idea what she had just witnessed, nor what lurked just a few streets over. Possibly looking for his body in the rubble of his childhood. He straightened his robes, pulling them tightly around him.
"I know they had a son, I saw him around when we were children. He was a bit odd, but I liked him. My father forbid me to go near him though after he had a row with Mr. Snape at the pub one night." She said as she paced the floor of the kitchen. "Did that….those….things follow you? Is it because of the magic?"
His eyes widened and his stomach clenched. "What-what do you mean?" He stammered. This woman had pelted him continuously with surprise.
"You're a wizard aren't you?" She raised a brow at him.
"Are you a squib?" He raised a brow in return. He was curious now, and after this conversation, he would return to Hogwarts to confer with Dumbledore. He had wasted enough time with this silly yet intriguing woman. He had matters of utter importance to attend to.
"Well no, at least I don't think so from what I've read about them. I'm Muggleborn I think is the term. My parents denied me from the magical world when I received my school letter from Hogwarts." Her cheeks flushed ever so slightly and she twiddled her thumbs together.
"Ah. I see." He said. Crossing his arms around his chest. Perhaps the little miscalculation that landed him here wasn't so inconvenient after all. He no doubt still stood because of it. "Well, I really should be going. I appreciate everything you've done. If I were you, I would leave town." He gave her a smug smile before he disapparated from her kitchen with a loud crack.
She stood rooted for some time, her mouth dropped open as she finally realized why he looked familiar to her. She ran her fingers through her hair as a deep rumble ran beneath her feet. Several cups danced their way out of the cabinets as the doors swung open on their hinges. Shattered glass littered the floor as an astounding explosion could be heard. She ran to the window, peering out in all directions. Her heart thumped violently as she witnessed fire spreading from the Snape house, across the roofs of the neighboring homes on the street. The jets of black smoke that seemed driven by madness circled the sky above her. She choked on her breath as they descended into the streets. Each line of smoke fading away to reveal a person. Every one of them with a crazed look in their eyes.
