The next morning, Jake was still asleep. Even when the alarm on his phone went off, he didn't press stop. He kept getting up and going to the bathroom multiple times last night, which made him extra tired.

Frankie came out of her room and gently opened Jake's door. She turned off his alarm and then shook him lightly.

"Jake? Jake, wake up!" Frankie said, loud enough for him to hear.

Jake opened his eyes and got up, albeit a little startled.

"Hey, Frankie. You scared me!"

"Sorry! I was starting to get worried because you didn't wake up when your alarm went off." Frankie said.

"Oh. Yeah, I'm pretty tired. I, um, kept getting up to go the bathroom in the middle of the night last night." Jake said.

Frankie made a face. "How come?"

"I'm not sure. I guess I drank too much water yesterday. But at the same time, I was so thirsty. It's just weird." Jake said.

At this point, Frankie was certain that Jake had something going on, she just couldn't put her finger on it. Whatever it was, she wanted to make sure it wasn't anything too serious.

"Come on, let's go eat breakfast." Frankie said.

Frankie and Jake left the room and walked down the hallway.

"Jake, has this sort of thing happened to you before?" Frankie asked.

"Not that I recall, no." Jake responded.

Frankie nodded.

The two made their way to the living room and sat at the dining room table. Breakfast was already there waiting.

"Good morning!" Viktor greeted cheerfully.

"Morning." Frankie and Jake both said. They started eating.

Jake yawned and rubbed his eyes due to his tiredness. The Stein parents noticed this.

"You tired, Jake?" Viveka asked.

"Yes. I had to go to the bathroom a lot last night." Jake said.

"That's odd. Maybe you drank too much water or something." Viktor said.

"That's what I think, too. For what it's worth, I hope it isn't anything crazy." Jake said.

"It could be just temporary, you know, maybe it'll go away tomorrow. You never know." Viveka said optimistically.

Jake gulped down some orange juice. "We'll see!"

After they got done eating, Frankie and Jake did their usual morning routine; they then left for school as Viktor and Viveka said bye to them on their way out.

Frankie and Jake arrived at Monster High and got out of the car. They entered the building and greeted Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona, Cleo, and Ghoulia.

"Can you guys believe tomorrow's Friday already? This week went by fast!" Cleo said.

"I know, right? I can't wait for this weekend." Lagoona said.

"Me neither! Unfortunately, we have a test in a Clawculus today. Did any of you guys study?" Draculaura asked.

"I did." Clawdeen said.

Ghoulia answered the question by doing her usual grunts and groans.

"I did, too." Frankie said.

"Same." Cleo said.

"So did I." Lagoona said.

"What about you, Jake?" Draculaura asked him.

Unbeknownst to the ghouls, Jake was dozed off. He had his arms crossed and his head was leaning against the wall.

"Oh, he's sleeping. Should we wake him up?" Draculaura whispered.

"I'm not sure. He didn't much sleep last night." Frankie whispered.

"Why?" Clawdeen whispered.

"He said he kept getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom." Frankie whispered.

"That's concerning. He did drink a lot of water yesterday, though. Maybe that has something to do with it." Lagoona whispered.

"That's another thing, Jake also said he gets really thirsty. I wonder if he has something going on with his bladder that makes him go frequently, um, but the more he goes, the thirstier he gets." Frankie whispered.

"I hope it's not what I think it is." Cleo whispered warily.

At that moment, the bell rang. The loud sound caused Jake to wake up alarmed. His friends looked at him worriedly.

"Did I fall asleep?" Jake asked, flustered.

"Yeah, you did. You must be really sleepy." Frankie said.

"I am." Jake said.

The gang went to Dead Languages and sat down, followed by Jackson, Clawd, Deuce, and Heath. They all took note of Jake's constant yawning as well as the bags under his eyes.

"You've been yawning quite a bit there, man." Jackson said.

"I know. I didn't sleep very well last night." Jake said.

"How come?" Clawd asked.

"I kept needing to go to the bathroom several times." Jake replied.

"Uh, is that normal?" Deuce asked, confused.

"I don't know. It would happen every two to three hours, so I don't know what's going on with me. It also seems like the more I pee, the thirstier I get." Jake said.

"Maybe you have a bladder infection or something." Heath guessed.

That statement made Jake's eyes widen in fear. "I sure as hell hope not! Dang it, Heath, why'd you have to say that?! Now you have me all paranoid!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you paranoid. My bad." Heath said apologetically.

Frankie intervened. "Jake, calm down. Do you want us to take you to the nurse after school?"

"That'd be great, thank you." Jake said, calming down. "I'm sorry for getting all sporadic. I'm just nervous."

"It's okay. We understand that having bladder issues would freak you out." Draculaura reassured.

"I just hope it isn't gonna stay with me for the rest of my life." Jake said.

Jake was able to make it through Dead Languages, Mad Science, Clawculus, and Study Howl. He did a couple bathroom breaks before and after lunch as well. After that, he made it through Home Ick and Dramarama.

When school was over, Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona, Cleo, and Ghoulia led Jake to the nurse; they walked in.

The nurse, a frankenmonster, noticed the gang. "Hello! How may I help you kids?"

Jake stepped forward. "Hi, my name is Jake Wilder. I need your help."

"What's going on, Jake?" the nurse asked, concerned.

"I've been really thirsty the past couple days, and, um, I've also had to go to the bathroom a lot, particularly last night." Jake said.

The nurse grabbed her notepad and wrote down what Jake told her.

"I see. And you said it's been happening the past couple of days, correct?"

"Yes, ma'am. Is there a way I could, like, do a urine test to see if there's any sugar in my urine or anything?" Jake asked.

"Unfortunately, Jake, I'm not qualified to give out urine tests. Monster High doesn't allow that, I'm sorry." the nurse said.

Dejected, Jake looked back at the ghouls, whose facial expression showed sympathy.

"However, I would recommend seeing a pediatrician. Extreme thirst and constant bathroom breaks are concerning." the nurse said.

Jake just nodded. "Well, thank you for time."

"Of course! If you ever have a medical emergency, my door's always open." the nurse said with a bright smile.

At that moment, Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona, Cleo, and Jake left the nurse's office and walked down the hallway.

"Well, the nurse was no help. I really thought she'd give you a solution to your problem, Jake." Frankie mused.

"She did give him a solution, Frankie. She told him to go to the doctor." Draculaura said.

"Doctors are never my strong suit. They make me so nervous. Eh, I'll tough it out. I'll wait a little while and see if this continues on." Jake said.

"Are you sure? You don't wanna find out right away?" Clawdeen asked.

"Nah, I'll be okay. It could be temporary for all I know." Jake said.

The ghouls nodded. Frankie pulled out her phone and texted her mom, saying, "Hey, me and Jake are running a little late. I'll text you when we're on our way."

Lagoona changed the subject. "Um, how do you guys think you did on the Clawculus test?"

"We won't find out until tomorrow. But I think I did good." Cleo said.

Ghoulia spoke zombie, guessing how she did on the test.

"You probably aced it, Ghoulia. You're the smartest ghoul in school after all." Frankie said with a smile.

"Jake, how do you think you did?" Draculaura asked.

"I thought I did okay. I'm actually pretty good at math, Clawculus included. I just hate that we had a test on the fourth day already. What kind of teacher gives their students tests on the first week of school?" Jake exclaimed.

"Right? I guess it's what makes Monster High stand out from other schools." Clawdeen said.

The gang headed out of the building and stood in the grass.

"Welp, I'll let you ghouls know if my bladder thing gets worse." Jake said.

"Okay. We'll see each other tomorrow, and thank ghoul tomorrow's Friday!" Lagoona said cheerfully.

Yep! And Jake, good luck with your problem." Cleo said.

"Hopefully you'll get some sleep tonight." Draculaura said.

"Me too! Also, this is gonna sound weird coming from me, but thank you for worrying about me and making sure I'm okay. It means a lot that you care so much about me." Jake said, eternally grateful.

"Of course we care about you, Jake! You're our friend. We wanna make sure you're healthy and taken care of." Frankie reassured.

"What? Did you think we were just gonna ignore your problems?" Clawdeen asked jokingly.

"Yeah, it crossed my mind a few times." Jake joked. He laughed endearingly.

The ghouls also laughed, full of joy.

At that moment, the gang said bye to each other and went their own ways. Frankie and Jake hopped in the car and drove off. The two engaged in conversation.

"When you go the bathroom, does it hurt?" Franiie asked.

"No, it doesn't hurt." Jake said.

"That's good. I just wanted to make sure." Frankie said.

"Whatever I have, I hope it's not diabetes. That's why I wanted to check my urine for sugar." Jake said.

"I wonder why Monster High isn't allowed to do those kinds of tests." Frankie said.

"I bet you it's because school nurses can't do everything regular ones can, but who knows. Either way, I lived in a foster home for thirty days, I'm not about to have a disease all of a sudden. I'm too young to be dealing with this kind of stuff." Jake said.

"Yeah, that's true." Frankie said.

When Frankie and Jake made it home, they got out of the car and opened the door.

For those who are wondering, the school nurse is a character from the Monster High comics and novels, so I decided to incorporate her into the story. Also, this chapter deals with some heavy subject matter, so you have been warned. Enjoy! :)
