"Look," Ricardo says, glancing up as Alicia enters the room, wiping her hands together after giving Mariana a bath before bed.
"Hm?" she asks, cuddling up close to him on the couch. "What's up?"
"My Egypt pictures," Ricardo says, scrolling through a couple more to pause on one of the more clearer ones he has of a shopping mart he'd been to, full of bright fabrics and interesting fruits. "It was two years ago today that I was there."
"Oh yeah," Alicia murmurs, remembering that period of time. She tilts her head against his shoulder and watches as he plays a video of him talking about training, and the pyramids, and everything else he was experiencing while there. "My world traveled love," she teases, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
He chuckles. "To an extent," he says. "A lot of places I'd still like to go to some day, but this was definitely one of the most interesting periods of my life."
"Do you miss it?" she asks quietly. "Not being bound to one place, being able to go wherever you want, whenever you want?"
He taps his fingers against the phone screen, mulling over her question, then shakes his head. "No, not as much as you might think. Yeah, I get the itch sometimes, but the school here helps with that a lot, and... well, I wouldn't trade you and the kids for anything. You know that, right?"
She smiles up at him, eyes gleaming. "Yeah, I do. Just... I don't know, checking, I guess." She cups his face and kisses him again. "I'm happy you're happy."
"You make me very happy," he tells her adoringly, and she smiles again, resting their foreheads together.
They're still sitting like that, breathing each other in, when the door gets pushed open and they turn as one to look over as Andre peeks in, a curious look on his little face.
Ricardo beams at his son and motions to him. "Come here, Andre," he calls over to him, grinning as his son makes his way into the room, hopping up onto the couch between his parents with a little help from Alicia.
"What are you looking at, Daddy?" he asks, resting his head against Alicia's side.
Ricardo angles the phone so Andre can look. "This was Egypt. Daddy went there a couple of years ago."
"Was it fun?" Andre asks, eyes wide as he stares at the various pictures as Ricardo scrolls slowly through.
"It was," Ricardo confirms. "I had some very good times there."
"Can we go some day?" Andre wonders, peering up at him with curious eyes.
Ricardo chuckles and squeezes Andre close, resting his chin on top of the boy's head. "Yeah, mijo. Someday. I think you'd enjoy it a lot. I know I did."
Andre giggles and relaxes in his father's hold, little fingers poking at the phone as he plays one of the videos, watching his father describe Egypt and the things he's seen and done.
