Tired of the Lonely Life
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail
I'm sure the title starts to explain everything. I hope you all liked the building chapters.
Enjoy!
4 years later, October
Looking out over the city before him from the balcony of main building of Dragneel Ind. was now twenty-two year old Natsu. The lights of the large city of Magnolia danced in his eyes, and the music blared behind him. He honestly could not recall what they were celebrating tonight, no birthdays he could recall.
"Probably business being on the rise again." Natsu sighs out, twirling the amber liquor in his glass. He had done a usual amount of mingling earlier, and naturally, some of the women that weren't attached to a man were more than willing to give him their number but that was even starting to become boring and monotonous.
"Sulking?" The deep voice of Gray sounds from the door. Natsu rolls his eyes and takes a sip from his glass.
"Reflecting. Call it what you will." Natsu replies.
"You're barely twenty-two and you're reflecting on life?" Gray says.
"Not all of it, just one aspect." Natsu defends. Gray joins him, his own beverage in hand.
"Which one?" Gray asks.
"The lack of a relationship that means a damn." Natsu says, taking another sip.
"Ah. I'm in the same boat it would seem. Hell, I think the last five bachelors are." Gray chuckles out.
"Rogue I can see that, Sting though?" Natsu says.
"Yeah, over half a dozen women have been trying to grind on him at the dancing, he aint interested." Gray snickers.
"Hmm." Natsu says. As if on cue, Sting, Rogue and Gajeel all walk out into the crisp October air.
"I need some air or I'm gonna suffocate in there." Sting says. The other two nod in agreement.
"Looks like we're not alone in this thought process." Rogue chuckles, jutting his chin in the direction of Natsu and Gray.
"Needed air?" Sting asks.
"You could say that." Natsu chuckles. They were quiet for a moment.
"So, I'm not the only one who got tired of being single?" Gajeel chuckles, breaking the silence.
"Shut up." Sting hisses as Natsu chuckles.
"I'm tired of just sleeping with pointless women who just want sex. I actually want something with a woman that's not just physical. I envy in a way Jellal, Laxus, Erik and even Zeref because they all got married and have at least two kids each." Natsu says.
"When was the last time you got laid?" Rogue asks casually.
"March." Natsu, Sting and Gray reply. Rogue looks that the three of them and chuckles.
"Well, I'm going on a year and Gajeel even longer. I don't know when it clicked in my brain, but it did." Rogue laughs bitterly.
"In all honesty, I just got tired of the one night stand bullshit. It started to lose it's appeal a while back, but I just stopped caring in March." Natsu adds.
"Same." Sting and Gray add.
"That sounds about how I felt back in October, and how Gajeel was the June prior." Rogue chuckles.
"I take it your old man told you the same thing?" Natsu asks Gajeel.
"Naturally, now I just wish the stubborn woman would make herself known so I can get rolling with things." Gajeel laughs. The others chuckle.
"That aside, what places are we going to tomorrow Natsu?" Sting asks, changing the subject to something less emotional.
"We're going to be visiting some of the higher end businesses tomorrow morning, ending with the casinos. Rogue said he would take care of the clubs and brothels." Natsu says casually.
"Cool." Sting replies, taking a sip off his drink and inhaling the relaxing night air. He didn't want to go back to the huge manor that, save for his pet, was empty. He knew the others felt the same, and Gray didn't even have a cat.
The Next Day
It was two in the afternoon when Natsu and Sting strolled into one of the many restaurants Natsu owns. Sting usually follows along with him to some of these places because they're tied to clubs and entertainment facilities, which was his family business. As they go through the establishment, the door swings open and the host walks over to the desk to greet the guest and Sting feels his heart stutter. Two women walk in but his eyes land on the one with short blue-white hair, big doe brown eyes and a body that most women would kill to have. She was wearing a light blue sleeveless turtleneck sweater with a white pencil skirt that came down to knees and white heels. She smiles sweetly to the hostess and Sting feels that tightness in his chest triple.
"What are you staring at?" Natsu asks and Sting just nods his head in the general direction of the two women.
Natsu humors him and looks at the two, judging that he's looking at the women with shorter hair. When her friend steps out from behind her he feels his lungs stop. Long blonde hair that cascades down to her waist, doe brown eyes, and a body every man dreams his woman has. She was wearing a pink blouse with a black pencil skirt and red heels. The two women spoke and laughed as they go to their seats and pulled out their tablets. Clearly this was a working lunch. Natsu for once in his whole life felt nervous to even approach this woman, but simultaneously wanted to talk to her, at least get her name if anything.
"Ah, right on time. Those two always come here for lunch and work." The manager says as he walks over to them two women, so naturally, Natsu and Sting follow.
"Hello, my most faithful customers!" The manager chuckles. The blonde one smiles up at him and Natsu momentarily forgets to breathe.
"Hello Mister Notu." The blonde one replies.
Why does her voice have to be hot? Natsu mentally hisses.
"Might I ask who the two men are with you?" The other one asks.
"Oh, my bosses." Mister Notu replies with a sheepish smile. They look at them before their eyes shoot to each other and they let out a loathing laugh.
"Well, I feel like an under achiever." The blonde one says.
"Oh, I pretty much inherited this from my father like four years ago." Natsu replies coolly as he steps forward.
"Oh, I meant no offense. I'm just in a job that doesn't give me or my friend here the credit we work hard to get." The blonde replies, a light blush adorning her cheeks.
"I'm not offended. What's your name miss?" Natsu asks.
"Lucy." The blonde replies.
"Where are my manners, I'm Yukino." The other girl says.
"Natsu Dragneel, and my young blonde buddy there is Sting Eucliffe." Natsu says, jabbing his thumb in Sting's direction. The two women bow their heads slightly in acknowledgment.
"We'll finish this tour up in a few. I want to get some perspective from our honored guests." Natsu says calmly.
"Of course, sir." Mister Notu says as he scurries off the two men take a seat. The women didn't mind but damn were they intimidated.
"So, curious, what brings you here?" Sting asks. Natsu refrains from rolling his eyes.
"Oh, we work in the office building right next door, so it's mostly convenience." Yukino replies as she sips on her water.
"Mostly?" Natsu inquires.
"Well, the food is amazing as is the atmosphere." Lucy adds.
"But I would assume the office building you work at has a cafeteria." Natsu says.
"You would be correct, but honestly, I need a break from half those…. people." Lucy says.
"Coworkers rude or?" Natsu asks.
"You could say that. It's just so…" Lucy starts but looses her words.
"Suffocating. They're just so…misogynistic." Yukino half growls.
"Ah, hostile work environment." Sting says.
"Yes, and it stifles the creative process. Not like we get much creative freedoms to begin with. I mean seriously, just because we happen to be women doesn't mean we can't handle anything outside of horoscopes, makeup, diet and fashion trends." Yukino rants.
"We're journalists, in case you were wondering." Lucy adds.
"I was and fascinating. Why do they only give you those topics?" Natsu asks.
"Because we're women. And only women can write about that stuff." Lucy snarls.
"So why continue to work there?" Sting asks.
"I want to be a writer, so I thought this would be a good start and a steppingstone." Lucy says. Sting looks to Yukino and waits for her to answer.
"Honestly, I just like to stay informed on what's going on. But it's almost not worth it." Yukino sighs out.
"Well, what would you rather do?" Sting asks.
"Haven't thought about it honestly." Yukino says.
"What kind of books do you want to write?" Natsu asks Lucy.
"Adventure, Fantasy and Action. Maybe some romance but I need inspiration for that." Lucy laughs.
"No boyfriend?" Natsu asks.
"Nope, last one was…. not so great." Lucy says, unsure why she's telling a mostly complete stranger this information. Maybe he was just charismatic. Natsu glances at the clock and lets out an annoyed sigh that Sting apparently knows the meaning of as the two men stand. Natsu causally leaves her his card.
"My number, in case you decide to leave that job and go for a publisher, I have a few contacts." Natsu chuckles. Lucy smiles.
"Can I also just text you because?" Lucy asks, a slight flirt in her tone. Natsu smirks, his fang showing.
"Naturally." Natsu chuckles. Sting also gives Yukino his card, with a suggestive smirk that makes Yukino blush. Both men walk away to finish what they were doing when their cell phones sound and they see texts from numbers they don't know but reading the names of the respective women they just met.
And so it begins. Hope you all enjoyed. I shall return mid November with the next chapter, maybe even two depending on the length.
