A Prelude To Something New
Erhard closes his shop, flipping the sign to 'Close' with an exhausted sigh. Earlier, there were some irritating customers wearing rosaries of the Three Heroes church that came in. Didn't buy anything, they just looked at his weapons and armor, while glaring at him.
Seems like helping the Shield Hero has gathered some attention from those stuck up followers of that Church. While it was inevitable, the kid walking around in public with a glare and a shield on his arm didn't help. Thankfully, they couldn't do anything to him with no proof of helping the 'Demon'.
Erhard, cracks his neck, ready to go to the nearby Inn and to drink with his old friends. He turned the corner to see a large group of people, staring at a woman, the blacksmith cannot recall seeing her before, which is odd, since he has met many people in Castle Town.
The woman was holding a crystal ball, projecting a recording. He has seen these recordings before, a magic tool used to accurately record things within eyesight. When Shield Kiddo asked about this, he said some strange terms like 'camera', perhaps a similar tool back in his world?
The Blacksmith walks toward the crowd to see the projection better. Now with a closer look, Erhard sees the Shield Kiddo fighting against that dimwitted Spear Hero!
Erhard frowns, concentrating on the recording, so this is what went down that night after the waves. Naofumi mentioned this when he came back for some repairs.
The recording showed the kid, launching a green translucent shield into the Spear Hero, pushing the air out of his lungs. Naofumi throws some balloons at the blonde and traps him within a metal ball, Erhard suppresses a chuckle, knowing how painful it can be, especially since the dumbass can't fight with his spear trapped in that small space.
The crowd gasps, Erhard hears some people whispering how unfair the Shield Hero is being. He frowns, the kid can't do direct damage, if anything, this fight was fair as it can get.
The view changes to that familiar red-haired girl, who seems to be chanting.
"Heroes, look at Myne." A familiar voice was heard through the crystal ball. Erhard's eyes widened, recognizing the young man's voice.
Misato, that foreign adventurer, recorded this?!
The recording looks closer to that woman, Myne, launching a wind spell in Naofumi's back pushing him a few meters away. He can tell it was her, her hand clearly glowing with mana energy and considering where the spell hit the Shield Kiddo, the trajectory matches.
So that's what the Shield Hero meant when he said 'The bitch interfered and the Trash King tried to hide it' Erhard quotes in his head.
The crowd became outraged when the Spear Hero proceeded to attack the Shield Hero like nothing happened. The recording stops.
If Erhard recalled correctly, when he talked to the kid, he said afterwards Misato stopped the duel and called out on the Princess's interference. The Bow and Sword heroes stepped in too.
"Did the King really not call out on the girl for interfering in that duel?"
"The Shield Hero is a criminal, why should the King interfere with someone who deserves it?"
"But the King is supposed to be better than some scum."
"Look there is more!" A man, another person he doesn't recognize.
'Something is off' but Erhard shoves that thought aside as he watches the projection.
Erhard gasps, seeing Raphtalia on the projection, showing her slave seal. "I command you to not lie, and I cannot shock you with my thoughts, only when you go against my verbal command." Naofumi in the recording says.
She closes her eyes. "To demonstrate… I am a guy-gah!" The woman gasps, shocked by the seal. "No, I am a girl." The girl clears her throat "I believe Naofumi never raped Myne Sophia, who is also known as Princess Malty. I believe him because…"
The recording would continue as that girl described how Naofumi treated her. Just as the blacksmith predicted, that Shield Kid treated Raphtalia well, like a human being, far better than what her last owner must have done considering how she looked when he first met her.
To prove that she isn't lying, she would occasionally speak obvious lies, but clever people would be skeptical as some have heard crystal ball recordings can be changed. But… The crowd, people who thought Naofumi was a criminal, were now conflicted.
"Figures, considering the rumors about the First Princess and what she did, of course she would do such dirty moves…" A man scoffs.
"It must be a lie right? This recording isn't from a knight, just some random woman who refuses to say anything." A woman asked incredulously pointing at the silent woman projecting the recordings.
"I don't know, I mean have you seen that girl? She's beautiful, a slave owner would definitely jump at the chance to lay with her and the fact that the Shield Hero hasn't. Something doesn't seem right…" While somewhat perverted, the man had a point.
"Does that mean the King lied to us about what the Shield Hero did?" The same man, who pointed out the second part of the recording, mutters out loud.
Hearing those words, Erhard's eyes widened realizing the intent behind showing these recordings in a large public place.
"YOU THERE! Stop showing those illegal recordings!" That annoying Royal Knight Commander yells pushing through the crowd. Erhard steps back, away from the circle of knights, who are pushing through the crowd, surrounding the woman.
His instincts tell him that he should not be here when the knights get close to that woman.
"You are under arrest!" The Knight commander yells.
A knight appears from behind her, grabbing her wrist. The man, who pointed out the second part of the recording, leaps out from the crowd, slipping through the circle with surprising grace and kicks the knight away. He throws something on the ground, covering the area with smoke.
When it cleared, the woman and the man were gone.
"Do not leave!" The commander yells as the knights surround the people who watched the recording.
But Erhard was already gone before the smoke cleared. He wiped the beads of sweat off of his head. 'I hope Misato knows what he is doing. That young man has some balls.'
Misato suddenly sneezes into his sleeve, due to a very old habit.
"Misato, are you allergic to the flowers?" Fitoria inquires, since she, Misato and Ace sat surrounded by flowers.
"No, although I'm not sure why I sneezed…" The Gun Hero sniffs, confused, since they are in warm sunlight and it's noon. Could it be the 'People sneezing when they are talked about' trope at play? Nah that can't be real.
The Filolial Queen's eyes narrowed in scrutiny at the Gun Hero "Hmm… Let us continue." She says.
Misato and Ace sat side by side, eyes closed and facing Fitoria.
"Take a deep breath, don't channel the mana in your bodies alone, reach out to the mana in the air and the flowers that surround you." Fitoria said.
Ace follows her command, he takes a breath as red glowing mana particles float towards his body, his body is enveloped in red light.
Meanwhile, Misato does the same but the amount of mana particles he has gathered is significantly less than Ace's, his body doesn't even glow.
"Now, focus on placing the mana into your magical clothing, concentrating on raising your defense stats and its durability."
The red mana highlights Ace's clothing.
Misato frowns struggling, the yellow mana highlighting his jacket seems to flicker like an old light bulb.
Fitoria stands up and walks over to Ace. Poking his chest, her finger bounces off of the red tunic. "Huh?" Ace mutters, his concentration is broken from Fitoria's poke.
The Filolial Queen nods, patting Ace's head. "Good job." Ace smiles from the praise.
Fitoria turns to Misato with a small frown. The Gun Hero opens his eyes, looking at his jacket. "Did it work?" He asks.
Fitoria, touches the collar, rubbing her fingers on the fabric. "No." She says.
Suddenly Misato feels pain on his ribs, he rolls back from the force of the hit and stands up. He looks down at his torso, to see a finger sized hole through his jacket and looks at Fitoria, who has her hand out with a single finger pointing at him.
"You didn't have to jab me…" The Gun Hero says, lightly glaring at the Filolial Queen.
"While I understand Summoned Heroes would struggle to utilize magic, I still believe my action is a good motivator to learn how to use this type of magic soon, since you have low defense stats." Fitoria states.
"Ya, but it's still going to take time, breathing in mana is a bit advanced from the spell casting I have been learning." Misato points out as he demonstrates his magic, fire appears on the palm of his hand. In the anime, when Fitoria did it in her test for Filo, Melty implied that such an ability is unheard of, or its only theoretical for mages in Melomarc.
Fitoria stares at Misato blankly. She wordlessly flicks her hand back, creating a gush of wind extinguishing the fire on Misato's palm. "Then I hope you will remain diligent. Despite the fact your defense stats have grown at a higher rate than before. I would still be concerned if you do not accomplish this before I return to the Sanctuary."
"On that, we agree." Misato nods, he channels his mana and repairs the hole in his jacket.
Recently when grinding, Misato's defense stats have grown quite a bit, more than a single defense token. At the rate it's going and if it keeps increasing, he's gonna have a decent amount of defense to not die or pass out easily in a fight. Although his attack stats have been slowing down a bit. Which is odd, he thought he was going to spend his life as a glass cannon, but now his build is slowly becoming more, well rounded, relatively speaking anyway. He still is a quick long ranged high damage fighter but he is less of a liability when taking hits. Weird… Why start as a 'glass cannon' and then slowly become a 'less fragile cannon'?
Nonetheless, learning the ability to absorb the magical particles in the air to strengthen his defense stats with his jacket would be an incredible boon. Misato turns back to the village in the distance. "We should check on the others, see how Naofumi is progressing with the grappling techniques." He says walking back. Fitoria and Ace follow him.
Earlier, Misato and Naofumi brainstormed on using some martial arts that they could use to gain some advantage. The Shield hero first thought it was pointless for himself due to his inability to deliver pain, until Misato brought up that if Naofumi is going to push enemies away, it might as well be on their backs. With that idea in mind, Naofumi quickly agreed.
Misato, Fitoria and Ace were greeted by the villagers, trying to rebuild their home from the damage the Waves and cowardly Royal Commander caused.
"Hey there Misato, thanks for getting the wood for us!" A man holding a plank says.
"Fia, Ace, here I got some extra food for you!" A woman carrying a bowl of fruit says, handing Fitoria and Ace an apple.
A boy, around Fitoria and Ace's 'age' came up, slightly flustered, struggling to look at Fitoria for some reason. "Hey F-fia, want to p-play with me- I mean us?" The boy stammers out, pointing at the other kids
Fitoria shakes her head. "Sorry, but I do wish to play."
"Oh… okay." The boy slouches like a deflated balloon.
"I could play!" Ace says, waving his hand.
The boy smiles. "Ya, let's go!" He says running to his friends with Ace close by.
"Remember to stay within the village!" Misato yells.
The children reply "We will!"
Misato smiles, watching the children happy without a care, reminding him of what he used to have as a child. He turns and looks at Fitoria who stares at the children running. "You know, you could have joined them and played. Be a kid again even for a little bit."
The Filolial Queen gently shakes her head and scoots closer to Misato. "No, I wish to help you." The Gun Hero shrugs and continues his path to Naofumi and the others.
Snap!
Misato's eyes turn towards the sound of wood breaking, seeing a man falling from an unfinished roof, from the way he is falling he will hit his head and neck first!
The Gun Hero runs to catch the man but a white blur goes right past him. He sees Fitoria catching the man. She was so fast!
"Are you alright?" Fitoria asks the villager.
"Y-Yes… Thank you for saving me." The man asks, his face red out of embarrassment, being saved by what looks like a little girl. He stands up and bows.
"Did you see that?" A woman says, amazed.
"See what mom? It's like she appeared in an instant!" A boy says
"She was so much faster than Misato." A girl says.
"What level is she to move so fast and look so young though?" A elderly man ponders.
Children that went to play came up to Fitoria.
"Fia, you were so amazing!" The same boy who invited her says.
"You are so cool!" A girl compliments.
"Que- I mean Fia is the best!" Ace says, barely avoiding calling her Queen Fitoria.
One by one people began to crowd Fitoria, complimenting her every second. Fitoria's face turns a little pink, she hides behind Misato and peaks her head out shyly. The adults chuckle at Fitoria's cute response while the children are confused by her actions.
Misato chuckles. "Okay that's enough compliments" He says waving the people away, he turns to his intended destination, with Fitoria close behind. He looks down at his slightly flustered companion. "Not used to getting that many compliments?" He says with an amused grin.
Fitoria, shyly turns back to see people waving at her. "It is unlike the times I did reveal my true identity to the masses. Most humans and Demi-humans looked at me in great reverence. But here their reaction was different." Fitoria looks blankly at the sky, possibly recalling a memory.
"It was… warm." She concludes with a small smile.
The two walk over to see Keel, hitting Naofumi, who blocks it and grabs her arm. He sweeps her legs and pushes her on the ground. Keel tries to stand up until Raphtalia comes over with her sheathed sword, 'stabbing' Keel.
The axe wielder groans. "Oh no, I am dead blehh…" Raphtalia giggles at her friend's antics.
Misato grins. "Good move Naofumi." The Shield Hero simply nods in acknowledgement. "Well, let's learn the stranglehold, it's probably your only offensive means to take someone down, everyone needs air to live, combine that with your high defense stats, they likely can't hurt you enough to escape your grasp."
"Good idea." Naofumi says with a sinister grin, most likely picturing dark things.
"Naofumi…" Raphtalia says with a tone of disapproval, breaking the Shield Hero's thoughts.
After some tinkering with the Gun Strengthening method: Customization. Misato and Naofumi, together with their weapons glowing and connecting, they both unlocked a new series.
The Gun Shield Hybrid Series unlocked!
+20 Defense stats!
You can now use materials to craft Guns with Shields attached to them.
You have gained a permanent boost of +15% in Defense Stats!
Crafting new Shield Guns will increase the percentage of your permanent boost up to 50%. To increase the percentage… Read more to find out.
New Skill: Shield Pair Up unlocked!
"Holy shit… This is awesome! My defense stats have increased, I get a permanent boost to my defense stats everytime I level up. I can now craft Shield Guns that increase my defense stats!" Misato cheers. He can gain a permanent boost up to 50% or even more! The Gun Hero turns to check on Naofumi, who is frowning, slightly deeper than normal.
"What did the Hybrid series give you?" Misato dare asks, as he has a feeling it's not a revelation for the Shield Hero.
Naofumi huffs "For me, it's called the Shield Gun Hybrid Series. It raised my attack stat by 5 points…" Naofumi sighs in reluctant acceptance "But the upside, Shield Guns have high chances of stunning an enemy, which opens up for Raphtalia to do a critical strike and…" He squints his eyes, reading carefully. "I can do direct damage but it's under specific conditions." He reads, raising his eyebrow.
"And those conditions are?" Raphtalia asks.
"If I am completely alone with no one nearby to fight with, I am allowed to do damage with the Shield Guns I have crafted but at the cost of lower defenses." Naofumi says. "Like that'll ever happen." He scoffs.
"That's good." Raphtalia says with a smile.
"How so?" The Shield Hero questions.
"If we were separated, I would feel safe, knowing you can protect yourself before the enemy strikes first."
"..." Naofumi stares at her, then his eyes drift away, his hands tapping air but Misato knew he was doing something on his screen. A blunderbuss with a wooden shield appears. "This gun gives high chances of stunning an enemy with it, especially when they are up close."
"That's it? No skill called 'Gun Pair up?' " Misato asks, slightly confused.
"Eh? No I don't have a skill like that, what did you get?" Naofumi replies.
"Hmm…" Misato hums looking at his screen.
Shield Pair Up:
You can fight with the Legendary Gun on one hand and summon a shield you have crafted on the other hand without losing EXP and Stat benefits!
Do Note: Activating Dualwield or other Pair up skills will deactivate Shield Pair Up.
Well they are alone, Dusk and Dawn aren't here at the moment, so…
"Fitoria, cover us please." The Gun Hero politely asks. Fitoria nods and a small mist forms around the group.
"Shield Pair up." Misato says and a shield appears on his left hand. He inspects it, noticing that the shield is almost an exact replica of Naofumi's first shield, minus the green crystal orb.
"Woah." Keel says with amazement. "But, I thought heroes can't use other weapons?"
"Ya… But I guess that skill allows Misato to do that." Naofumi mumbles, somewhat glaring at Misato with jealousy.
Misato pays no attention to that and practices defensive stances wielding both a shield and a gun. "Thanks to the Gun Shield Hybrid series, I now have a skill that allows me to summon a shield with my free hand. Since it came from the Gun, it doesn't violate its rules." Misato says. Transforming his gun into the M1 Garand with a bayonet attached, taking a stance similar to a spearman with a shield.
"This is quite the boon, but I still want you to learn how to channel mana particles from the air and plants." Fitoria says. Misato nods but then remembers, Fitoria is a Hero too, her carriage has cannons… Could he do the same with her weapon and copy that 'Tank'?
Could Naofumi, with the help of Ren, wield a sword without being shocked?
A pop up on the screen interrupts his thoughts.
Reminder: The Hero must NOT use OTHER WEAPONS to kill enemies, or else they will NOT gain any EXPERIENCE & STAT BOOSTS.
Misato's eyes widened, slowly nodding at the revelation. "So that's why Heroes cannot kill anything with any other weapon."
"What do you mean?" Naofumi questions.
"If us Heroes use any other weapon to kill a monster and not use the Legendary Weapon, we would not gain the stat and experience boost. The hero would have gained an average amount" The Gun Hero concludes.
"Wait…" Naofumi says, blinking, pausing. "What?" Naofumi asks, his voice sounding deeper. He looks at the ground, possibly staring at his screen with a frown that has gotten deeper.
"Uh…" Misato mutters, taking a slight step back from the Shield Hero. Rifana and Keel doing the same.
Naofumi looks back up with rage filling his eyes. "What the hell!? When I grabbed that sword the stupid shield fucking shocks me and said 'I am not allowed use any other weapon, ONLY the Legendary Shield'!" He yells
The Shield Hero points at Misato "And now that I heard it from you! The damn shield suddenly says the same thing! THIS damn shield needing to adapt and change to explain shit like this is BULLSHIT! Without that recording from Forrest, you and I would have never learned the Shield's strengthening methods. Why didn't this stupid shield just remember!?"
The Gun Hero frowns, looking at his gun and back at the Shield.
They are supposed to save the world, why can't the Shield and possibly the other weapons remember things like previous methods that were used? Seems vital considering they need to get strong as possible and not die to the likes of Pope Balmus and Malty. People who don't care and are willing to kill heroes for convenience. If it was a good hero with no knowledge like Naofumi, they are screwed the moment they are summoned by selfish people.
Fitoria frowns looking at the Shield. "You do raise a good point, it is rather frustrating to know these weapons rely too much on the Wielders current knowledge." She says, staring at the weapon with a hint of disdain in her eyes. If Fitoria, the girl who was raised by a Shield hero, is starting to dislike THE Shield, then that is bad.
Naofumi grumbles and hits his shield. Which does nothing of course.
"To think the Shield would do that to Naofumi-sama…" Raphtalia mutters with a frown. "The weapons are supposed to be amazing, we worship them and yet, they seem to be so limited now."
"I'm starting to lose my amazement with these weapons…" Rifana says, glaring at the Shield. Keel nods in agreement.
"The shield is being a dummy." Ace concludes.
Meanwhile Misato looks at the yellow crystal orb on the Legendary Gun with a small frown. 'Why did the Gun explain the reason behind the weapon limitation better than the Shield?' Just like the show, Naofumi couldn't wield a sword without understanding why. It just said no and did not clarify. Something that confused Misato about the anime.
Sure, it makes sense to force the Heroes to develop their own experience on their Legendary weapons and become masters at wielding them. In the words of Bruce Lee. 'Fear the man who practiced a single kick a thousand times'
In other words, it is better to become proficient on one specific weapon, people don't have time to master absolutely everything, it's either one or the other. Rarely will there be an instance in between. But still, for a hero like Naofumi, getting shocked and not getting a decent explanation on why he can't…
The Shield so far sounds like an asshole! It has the audacity to kidnap Naofumi, who was still alive back in his home world, and it doesn't even explain things better?!
On Day One of his arrival to this world, Misato already got info on the Gun's Strengthening method, despite playing no game like it.
Naofumi was the same but the Shield didn't provide anything to make up for it. Even with the recordings, Naofumi still had to be convinced to gain those methods.
Even though the methods belong to…
THE.
SHIELD.
'Why…
Why is the Gun so different?' Misato thought to himself, somewhat nervous of the weapon.
"Is this seriously normal?" Naofumi asks incredulously. Misato silently nods, staring at the two, 4 days old fully grown Filolials in front of him. The white Filolial with blue eyes was Filo, just like the anime. But the second Filolial was not expected.
When Misato asked about the second egg, Naofumi said seeing Ace and Fitoria in action made him consider having two filolials in the team.
Hence why there is now a pink Filolial with similar blue eyes by the name of Sakura. Something about this Filolial is oddly familiar to Misato but nothing about this bird is ringing enough bells for him.
"Yes, this is normal growth for Filolials raised by a Cardinal Hero." Fitoria confirms.
"Mhm! Ace grew around the same time as Filo and Sakura." Ace says in third person.
For Misato seeing Filo out of the stables running almost all day with Naofumi on her back was everything he remembered in the show. Meanwhile, from what the Gun Hero can tell, Sakura is Filo's opposite, where Filo is energetic and hyper, Sakura is lazy and slow. But in a fight, Sakura can wake herself up and kick ass, almost matching Filo's speed.
The only common thing these Filolials have is their love for Naofumi. When they were small, they used to yell at each other, mostly Filo with Sakura ignoring her, trying to get the Shield Hero's attention for themselves. Ace had to lecture them a bit, since he understands what it's like to have siblings. Eventually these two came to an agreement, at least, enough to not screech at each other and hurt everyone's ears.
"Why are the knights here?" A villager nearby says out loud, causing the two Heroes' mood to drop.
"Misato, I really hope you are wrong and the knights are there to help with the remnants of the Second Wave…" Naofumi mutters, remembering what Misato told him about the next pseudo future event, which is predicted to happen today.
"Uh… Considering how stupid Motoyasu is, like the Spear Hero in the 'vision' and how similar Malty is with her counterpart…"
The two Hero parties went to see what's the commotion, finding Motoyasu and Malty on the stand. The obnoxious redhead holding a fancy paper, declaring Motoyasu as Lord of the land.
"I'm starting to hate it when you are right." Naofumi grumbles. Misato rolls his eyes.
"At least we know what happens rather than be surprised by something worse. We should take what we can get before my knowledge becomes obsolete." The Gun Hero counters.
"Good point…" The Shield Hero reluctantly admits, he takes a breath.
"You wish to defy your lord's orders?" The Princess 'asks'. After declaring the most stupidest taxation ever.
"Well duh!" Naofumi yells, getting everyone's attention.
Malty is surprised and tries to get Naofumi and Misato to leave by using her authority, which should have never existed. Naofumi then questions Motoyasu if the blonde knew how much it cost to spend a night at the local Inn. Of course the dimwit doesn't know…
"You're charging a hundred night's worth of money just to enter and leave the village!" The Shield Hero says.
"But it's not that bad and the funds would be for repairs." Motoyasu weakly counters.
"Is this kid serious?" An old man mutters.
"Not that bad?" Keel scoffs. "Maybe for rich people like the Royal Family and their favorite Heroes, but these villagers only get their pay of a few silver coins when working, it's probably a once in a lifetime chance for them to even get a single gold coin."
Misato steps forward speaking "Besides, if anyone should pay for the repairs it should be that cowardly Royal Commander who launched that fire spell and caused more damage to their homes than the monsters did during the waves. And by extension, the Royal Family for even allowing that coward to lead the knights!"
"These people should not be punished for having bad luck with the waves happening nearby, they should be helped!" Rifana yells. "It's the Royal family's duty to protect their people, not leech off of them!"
"Yeah!" A man yells.
"The Shield Hero, Sir Misato, Lady Rifana and their companions were the ones who defended our home during the wave!" Another villager says. "Not you!"
"Silence!" Malty screeches. "You dare disrespect your lord, the Spear Hero and me, the Princess of Melomarc?" She raises her hand, and the knights point their spears at the villagers. All of them cower fearfully at the knights. But Fitoria walks in front of the crowd, glaring at the knights, causing them to freeze.
The Filolial Queen points at Malty "Respect is earned regardless of one's title, and you… Malty." Fitoria says, emphasizes the Antagonist's name without addressing her as Princess. "Have done nothing to earn it."
"Damn, Fitoria with that fire." Misato whispers in awe.
The Princess's eye twitches, "You little bitch… I'll teach you respect." Malty mutters with venom in her voice, then she grins and prepares to lower her hand. Three Shadows appear before the Bratty Princess.
Misato notes that like the Anime, the Shadows came just in time to give Malty her mother's letter. The leading Shadow had the same voice as the one who says 'dare say' a lot. Malty then challenges Naofumi to a race.
"Tell me again, why can't you do this Misato?" Naofumi complains.
"Naofumi, remember,I am not a Hero…" Misato emphasizes the word 'not'.
The Shield Hero groans at the reminder.
"Sir Misato is correct, despite his feats, he isn't a hero, he has no right to challenge the Spear Hero." The Villager's leader says.
Naofumi sighs.
Rifana places her hand on the Shield Hero's shoulder. "Do you really want that idiot to waste your efforts on protecting this village by slowly destroying it with that stupid decree?"Her words seem to hit Naofumi, his eyes narrowing, looking at the village. Then the Villagers bow, begging for Naofumi to accept.
"Fine, but I won't claim responsibility if I lose okay?" Naofumi says, looking away.
The Villagers all smile, filled with hope that the Shield Hero would win.
Meanwhile Misato walks over to a building, leaning onto a wall near the corner.
"Dusk and I could prevent cheating from the knights." Dawn offers from the otherside of the corner.
The Gun Hero ponders a bit, and answers "No, try to record the knights interfering instead and use it against Malty."
"Very well." Dawn says and Misato hears nothing else. He looks to the otherside to find no one there. He shrugs and walks back to Naofumi.
Filo, Sakura and Naofumi, stood near the starting line, where Motoyasu's dragon and his party stood. The Shield Hero turns to Sakura. "Sorry Sakura, but Filo is faster than you."
Sakura nods, blinking slowly, she turns to Filo
"Gwah kleh…" Sakura speaks
Filo eagerly nods "Gwah gweh!"
Ace translates their speech to Misato "Sakura asked Filo 'to not lose' and Filo said 'I won't.' "
Sakura smiles, and she walks over to Raphtalia, who pets the Pink Filolial. Filo bumps her head against Naofumi, who pets her head.
Motoyasu walks with a smug look, "Heh, if Naofumi is riding on some lame bird, I'm definitely going to win this race." He turns to Fitoria, his eyes shine. "Fia-chan, my ride is much cooler than Naofumi's." He says trying to show off the dragon.
The Gun Hero smirks as the Spear Hero has just unintentionally shot himself in the foot.
Fitoria gives the idiot a small frown. "I hate dragons." Causing Motoyasu to lean back from her harsh statement.
Misato hides his smile. 'I swear, I heard the Instagram 'Boom' sound.' He internally laughs, staring at Motoyasu's face with amusement, as the idiot stumbles to repair the damage.
"Oh… Uh well actually birds are not that ba-GAHH!" Motoyasu yells as Filo launches him into the air via crotch kick.
"Idiot…" Fitoria mutters, dissing the Spear Hero, while Ace giggles and nods.
'Seeing this in person is hilarious… The Anime did not do this justice.' Misato thought to himself, stifling his laughter at Motoyasu's face.
Just like Misato's source of knowledge, Naofumi and Filo win despite the cheaters getting in the way. Misato's warnings allowed them to avoid the holes that were made with magic, although they couldn't avoid the debuff spell, but it only made Filo more motivated to beat the dragon.
During the race, the Demi-human girl trio plus Misato had to prevent a surprisingly angry Sakura from launching the sabotagers out of the village. Until Fitoria stopped her. 'A Filolial like Filo would never lose to the likes of that pathetic lizard. Trust your sister.' She said, calming Sakura down.
Upon winning, the villagers cheer, Naofumi pets Filo, praising her, asking the villagers to thank her. Until her body suddenly poofs and transforms into a Royal Filolial like Ace.
"You cheated!" Malty accuses.
Misato rolls his eyes muttering "Aww shit, here we go again…" As some of the brat's words turn into static.
"You were the ones who cheated! Making holes in front of our path and debuffing us!" Naofumi exclaims.
"Holes and debuff spells?" Malty then lies as she breathes "Do you have any proof?"
The Gun Hero smirks. "We don't but I imagine they do…" He said and right on cue, the Shadows appear, bowing before Malty.
"The Shield Hero is right." The Shadow says, pulling up a crystal ball and projecting the recording of the Knights casting their spells at Naofumi and Filo. Plus a recording of Malty smirking as she schemes with the same knights earlier.
The villagers saw the projection and gossip, most of their expressions vary from frowning to glaring behind the Princess's back.
Malty frowns at the damning evidence. Naofumi leans to Misato whispering "How did you know those people recorded those knights?"
Misato winks. "You and I aren't the only enemies that brat has made." He turns to Malty, not noticing Naofumi frowning at his vague answer.
"You know…" Misato says, getting Malty's attention. "This behavior is exactly why Princess Melty is the heir to the throne…" Hearing those words the red haired brat snarls.
"Preposterous…" Malty spat out. "Those are just false rumors."
Missto raises his eyebrow, giving the Princess a 'Are you serious?' look. "You were about to silence the villagers by force over a decree that is obviously beneficial to you exclusively." He says, raising his finger.
"You tried to cheat in a duel to humiliate Naofumi and take Raphtalia away from him by force…" He points out raising another finger.
"And now you have failed to hide your cheating again. Despite being called out the first time." The Gun Hero says, raising his third finger. "I may not know much about Princess Melty, but considering the fact that your sister is 10 years old and is the next Ruler, tells me that you are so bad at ruling. That the Queen believed that a child is better than you."
Misato then smirks, feeling vindictive at the sight of Malty grinding her teeth. "How embarrassing, to be upstaged by a child. And yet you walk around pretending you are the Future Queen, even though everyone in this kingdom knows the truth…" He stops his taunting, seeing Malty forming a small ball of fire on her hand.
The Gun Hero frowns, Malty throws the spell, he spins around dodging the fireball while drawing his gun, but Fitoria appears, slamming her palm into Malty's stomach, a loud boom sound echoes in the village. Misato slightly winces at the sound, reminding him of the various spars he had with Fitoria.
The Princess falls onto her back, she then slowly rolls onto her stomach and tries to stand but she coughs and vomits.
"Myne!" Motoyasu yells, running over to Malty, rubbing her back. He turns to Misato and Naofumi glaring. "How dare you force Fia to attack Myne!" Raising his spear at his fellow heroes, who's party members in response draw their own weapons against the Spear Hero.
But Fitoria grabs the spear right below its head and yanks it to the side. Motoyasu grunts from Fitoria's deceptive strength. "They did not force me to attack Malty. I chose to strike her when she attacked Misato."
"But…" Motoyasu's anger slightly dissipates, but he grabs Fitoria's hand and kneels down to her height. "Fia-san, I beg you, join my party, I will treat you so much better than these scumbags." He says, glaring at Misato and Naofumi.
Fitoria frowns, her eyes narrowing at Motoyasu, scrutinizing him. She clenches her free hand, and pulls her other hand out from Motoyasu's grasp. "Come, I wish to speak with you alone." She says walking towards a tree outside of the village. The Spear Hero turns to Malty, who already has knights and a healer taking care of her, he turns back and follows Fitoria.
Fitoria sits on a rock underneath the tree, staring at the Spear Hero with a stoic look, but internally, she is irritated with the Current Spear Hero and his actions or lack of actions against that horrible red woman. Misato may have logically explained the Spear Wielder's internal problems that prevent him from reaching his potential, but Fitoria is losing her patience with this man.
While it's not part of Misato's plan, she wishes to give her opinions and thoughts to the Spear Hero, in hopes to set the man to a path that would lead to enlightenment and not ruin.
The Spear Hero bows "Fia-chan, please join my party, Misato and Naofumi are bad people. They have shown these recordings in Castle Town that make Myne look like a bad person. They are liars and I don't want to see you hurt because of them, they don't deserve you…"
Fitoria pauses, staring at Motoyasu, with a blank look. Internally however she is in disbelief, the Spear Hero isn't lying or trying to deceive her. He genuinely thinks he is offering her help from Misato and the Shield Hero. Despite the fact she has lightly tapped the red woman's stomach and made her vomit. Or the fact she has pulled the Legendary Spear away, overpowering the Spear Hero.
And despite the horrid traits the 'Princess' has shown, it seems he still hasn't acknowledged those issues, even after Misato talked to him after that pathetic duel.
"Malty is a terrible person, Misato and the Shield Hero are not. She tried to burn Misato for speaking the truth of why she is not the next Queen of this land, she is an unfitting ruler, much less a human being." Fitoria says insulting Malty in front of the Spear Hero.
"Don't say those things, Myne may make mistakes, but she isn't evil! Besides, she wouldn't hurt Misato badly for insulting her! Naofumi's bird was bigger, so it was stronger than the dragon I was riding. The villagers would have been fine, maybe even better with Myne and I running the place." The Spear Hero denies.
"Motoyasu Kitamura, what do you hope to gain by ignoring your problems? Running away won't make them go away." Fitoria asks, fed up with his denials.
"What problems?" The Spear Hero asks in confusion. "And I'm not running away, I'm here explaining to you why you should join me and leave those bad guys."
"Not physically, I was referring to your mind, you pretended to ignore her contempt towards Demi-humans in the church, Misato has brought this up back at the Castle and yet you move as if you did not hear him."
"That's not the point-"
"It is part of the point." Fitoria says cutting off the Spear Hero's argument "You have said your thoughts now I shall speak my thoughts…" She glares at the Spear Hero, who wisely shuts his mouth. "Malty was about to attack these villagers, who were protesting against a rule that is unreasonable, she was clearly lying about the money being used to help repair. It was obvious that she didn't intend to help them."
The Filolial Queen scoffs at the look of disbelief the blonde spearman is expressing. "Malty has cheated in the duel and the race, not trusting you to win, which implies she has no faith in you."
"Uh-"
"She had tried to attack Misato for speaking what everyone in the village thought when you lost the race and tried to deface the Shield Hero for winning." She continues glaring at the Spear Hero. "What do those actions tell you about Malty?"
The Spear Hero shakes his head. "Malty is a good person, she wanted to help those people and to save Raphtalia! Unlike Misato, lying to you about Malty!" The Spear Hero insists. Hearing those words, Fitoria had enough.
The Filolial Queen slaps the idiot. She was so fast the Spear Hero didn't realize it until a few seconds later, wincing from the hit, cupping his red cheek. "Fia why did- uh…" He dumbly says, freezing up from Fitoria releasing some of her bloodlust. The same amount of bloodlust that she used to freeze many horrible Cardinal Heroes.
Fitoria senses the Spear Hero's fear, but she ignores it, the idiot deserves it. "Did you not hear a single word I said?" She questions, while she isn't yelling, releasing this much bloodlust is more than enough to pressure the Spear Hero.
"Y-ya, b-but that's because I think you just don't k-know the truth about Myne, I know she may have her faults, but she's a good-"
Fitoria slaps him on the other cheek, interrupting his idiotic rambling. She increases her bloodlust, her eyes glow blood red, causing the Spear Hero to stare at her with his mouth wide open in fear. "How odd, to meet a human who uses their willpower to almost forget memories…" She may have forgotten bad heroes before, but she is certain no Hero she met before was this… frustrating.
"You are perhaps…" She breathes out of her nose, trying to calm herself. "The Most Foolish Cardinal Hero I have ever met in my… Life. I question the Spear's judgment in choosing you." She sighs, dropping her bloodlust and walking away.
"W-wait Fia, don't be mad!" The Fool yells, Fitoria senses him reaching for her hand, but she slaps it aside.
"I am not mad, I am disappointed… This world isn't some place for you to act without a care." Fitoria says with disgust in her eyes and she scoffs walking away from the stunned hero.
While Fitoria spoke with Motoyasu, Rifana and Keel dragged Raphtalia away to teach her how girls actually get pregnant, despite looking 18 years old, the raccoon girl doesn't have the knowledge of one.
When Fitoria returned, looking a little irritated, Misato gave Naofumi a compass, which unlocked the Shield Compass, a shield form that allows Naofumi to track exactly which Cardinal Hero is the closest, Misato has the same with his Gun Compass. Then Misato gives him the hourglass sand, Forrest stored this back at the Sanctuary, predicting Misato would struggle on getting it unlocked in the future.
Together, Misato, Naofumi and Fitoria teleported near Reichnott's main village. That way, if the church goes crazy, they could regroup at a safe place for the Shield Hero. Then with Fitoria's help, they teleported near Zeltoble, so the Shield Hero could give his companions a class up later and not be stopped by the petty King of Melomarc.
When they came back to Riyute Village, Naofumi had a few questions.
"What's to stop me from just taking Filo, Sakura and Raphtalia and leaving this damn Nation? Waves are happening across the world, I imagine other countries would welcome me to help fight. They might be better than the nation that has a religion made to hate me for this annoying thing on my arm." Naofumi says waving the shield. He places his hand on his chin, pondering "Maybe go to Stilvelt or Shieldfriedon?" His question matches his somewhat selfish views, but he doesn't sound serious about it.
Misato raises his hand, stopping Fitoria from lecturing the Hero, he turns to her. "Fitoria, can you give me and Naofumi some time alone?"
Fitoria nods and walks towards the Demi-human girls. Seeing Fitoria join in on the Demi-human Girl trio's conversation about how pregnancy works. Misato turns back to Naofumi.
"Because if you leave the country, the other heroes could be tricked and manipulated to hate you even more. Every Nation is biased, many would say things to make themselves more appealing for the heroes and make other nations look bad." The Gun Hero's golden eyes pierces the Shield Hero. "It doesn't help that these Heroes are delusional, easy to trick, just like you were before that rigged trial."
Naofumi frowns, facing away from Misato's gaze but the Gun Hero uses his hand to force the Shield Hero to face him directly.
The Asian-American continues, staring directly into Naofumi's eyes. "They died, Naofumi, something no one can fully understand, the feeling, the cold…" Misato's eyes turn blank, pausing at the word 'cold'. He shakes his head and continues.
"Then suddenly, they wake up in a world similar to the games they loved. A perfect place to cope from the horror and fears they experienced. A place to enjoy and play like they used to but with realistic graphics and gameplay!" Misato sarcastically cheers with a mocking expression of excitement. "Except it's not, this is real, but can a civilian with no experience fighting in wars accept that? Accept the fact that they died and here they cannot respawn back to life? Can they accept that the people here are not made of 1s and 0s but are real people who can bleed and die forever? " He asks.
"..." Naofumi looks at the ground, frowning. After about a minute, he looks back up, facing Misato. "No…" He answers somberly, raising his hand to Misato. "If I leave, we won't stand a chance against the Waves, especially with trash and bitch making the others remain delusional." The Gun Hero nods, grasping Naofumi's hand. The two heroes shook hands firmly.
The Shield Hero lets go, exhales and continues. "Besides, I imagine if I go to other countries, they would only see me as a weapon for other nations and try to make me in all but name, a slave…"
Naofumi rubs the back of his head. "If Demi-humans worship me, and are Melomarc's opposite, it's just the same bullshit, maybe worse because if I behave in a way they don't like well…" The Shield Hero chuckles but it was empty. "I can already see it. 'You are the Shield Hero, but you keep our people as slaves in your party? You must be fake, die!' " He says imitating a stereotypical fanatic attacking.
Misato nods, raising his finger "It is worth noting, Fitoria, told me your most recent predecessor died within Stilvelt, a place where he should be welcomed and safe."
"All the more reason to avoid it when I can, if they got their favorite hero/god dead in their Nation, that doesn't bode well for me." The Shield Hero states and shrugs "Sure, it might be the same here in Melomarc, but you are right, things would get complicated and harder to talk with the other heroes if I'm too far away."
Naofumi then groans. "Although, I still don't like it, blaming me for what happened with previous Shield Heroes. Can't they look at me as a person? This wasn't a problem back in my world."
The Asian-American shrugs, "That's probably because we didn't have important roles back at our homes, famous people are always under scrutiny, it's a multiversal thing with society."
"Easy for you to say, the last Gun Hero was smart enough to keep the Gun a secret which means you have no worries about being judged by some assholes."
"Ya but… The Second Wave in Melomarc ended sooner than expected. Which means, my presence is affecting the Waves. Eventually the person controlling them might realize something is off…" Misato says.
"Damn…" Naofumi mutters, looking at Misato, who was looking at the ground with a blank look.
"Misato." Naofumi says, getting the American's attention.
"Yes?"
"Why do you fight for this world?" The Shield Hero asks.
"..." Misato pauses and his gaze meets Naofumi.
"For a New Home."
The Gun Hero's Party and the Shield's Party said their goodbyes, each party taking their own paths. Misato has a good guess where the Shield Party will go but his party must meet up with Itsuki, have him face the anti-Demi human faction to guarantee an alliance with the Bow Hero. Hopefully they will not end up as enemies because the Church might be better at sucking him off.
On the upside, things are looking good, they have the help of the Queen, Naofumi is willing to help when he can, Ren might not cause a plague, Malty is starting to look worse in public, and Itsuki has recognized how wrong the Demi-Humans are treated. But that means… Fitoria's time has run out.
So here Misato stands, back where it all started, back in the Sanctuary, facing Fitoria alone. Rifana, sensing the mood, dragged Keel away saying they will set up camp. While Ace was with his parents and siblings, talking to them.
"Fitoria… This is it. I have no other plans involving someone as incredible as you." Misato says his chest feels heavy and tight.
"Are you certain?" Fitoria simply asks, but to Misato it feels like a loaded question.
Misato nods. "You have to protect the weapon, the Sanctuary and your flock. Eventually, the Ruler will discover my existence and right now you are this world's strongest defender against the Ruler and her soldiers."
"..." Fitoria simply stares for a minute, making Misato tense. "Is there anything you would like to ask me before we depart?" She questions.
"Fitoria… The reason why you didn't threaten to kill any of the heroes… It's because if new Cardinal heroes are needed to be summoned. All of them must die, including me. The moment I was brought here, my life was bound to their lives too. Correct?"
The Filolial Queen nods.
"It's why you came with me to Melomarc for more than a few days, to help unite them. Just like you said, you don't want me to die." Misato says, remembering Fitoria's change of character before rescuing Rifana and Keel.
"Yes…"
"Is this the first in a long time you interacted with people like this and helped a hero directly?"
"Yes, it is."
"Why though?"
"Most of my interactions with other heroes were brief, some were respectful but most interactions with other heroes at the end were disappointing. The heroes I spoke to believed they would not be able to unite with the others. Almost every set of heroes I had met were somehow in conflict. Some conflicts were so bad, I believed I had no choice but to kill them in hopes for ones that are better." Fitoria pauses. "I admit though, I now realized there might have been some necessary conflicts where I didn't understand them because of how brief our talks were."
"Why were your interactions brief?" The Gun Hero asks. Comparing his conversations with Fitoria to Naofumi's interaction in Canon. If they were shorter than what he got and Canon Naofumi got, then that would explain Fitoria's ignorance.
"At some point, I grew weary of investing my time in disappointing heroes back-to-back. Then there were also attempts of hunters who tried to capture me as their trophy. Far too many… One day I stopped helping the Heroes directly." Fitoria takes a breath, sounding fatigued. "Afterwards I have kept our interactions brief to avoid growing attached to people that I would no doubt, outlive, to not suffer from the pain of loss again. To not lose motivation on completing my promise to Mamoru-sama and Mr. Forrest."
The Gun Hero furrows his eyebrows. "Then why have you risked so much, helping me, knowing it could hurt you in about 80 years at best, when I inevitably grow old and die? What if I am using your emotions and manipulating you to do things I want and what if I betray you someday, adding another disappointing Hero to your list? What if I fail at uniting the Heroes?"
"…" Fitoria pauses for a few seconds before answering. "When you copied the recordings. I felt hope, hope that the recordings Forrest gave were still there. But when I discovered Forrest's last gift was broken, that hope was taken, and I only felt despair. Until you reached out and held onto me, by then it was too late, I became attached to you. I didn't want you to die. I admit, before we met I starved for the warmth of someone who cared for me for a very long time." The Filolial Queen says
"And as time went on, the idea of you dying because of me refusing to help you… It hurts, I don't think I could bear it well." Fitoria says slightly slouching.
Fitoria then straightens herself. "It is possible that you might be tricking me, especially with your abnormal knowledge, but Misato, you are not the first who tried to manipulate me. Many bad heroes in the past have tried to kill me or enslave me. Some attacked me upon meeting me for EXP, and some like you said, have tried to manipulate me. But in the end… All of them have paid their price." Her statement sends chills into Misato's spine.
The Filolial Queen closes in on Misato, taking his hand, calming him. "Besides, your actions after my attachment suggest otherwise. In almost every situation, you made sure to keep my true identity a secret as long as you could. I heard of your conversation with the Shield Hero. I heard how you spoke of my pain, my burden and your wish not to add more." She says, squeezing the Gun Hero's hand. "Hearing you argue about me not acting against that idiotic Staff Hero and his terrible daughter, made me believe in you."
"Even if you fail, if the heroes die or seem hopelessly delusional. You and your party are always welcomed to the Sanctuary, because if there is no way to unlock the Weapon, you must hide to keep the Gun a secret until this period of the Waves is pushed back, and you could live the rest of your life in peace. You deserve it for trying where most Heroes, including me, have given up, especially with how bad their circumstances are." Fitoria offers.
Misato's eyes widened, surprised by the incredible offer. "Thank you Fitoria but… How could one hug after so many years of being isolated and being closed off from other people, cause you to do stuff like this?" In the anime, Fitoria got nostalgic when Naofumi acted similar to Mamoru and wished to be pampered by him. But in the manga, when the Heroes ran away to fight the Tortoise alone and not together, Fitoria said she would no longer help the Heroes. So why is she so different here? How could his actions affect her so deeply?
Fitoria rubs the back of her head. "I admit, I am uncertain why I am doing this. But what I do know, is being out here with you, and the others. Interacting with people, speaking with them, helping them, it has made me more… Fulfilled. Saving that man from falling, and being thanked by people who looked at me with gratitude, no one had a hint of deceit in their gaze… It felt warm, it gave me an odd sense of relief, the weight on my shoulders felt less, I felt more connected to these people. These events must have reminded me of my old flock with Mamoru-sama. Since seeing Malty threaten the villagers, I didn't like it… A part of me wanted to stop her and protect the villagers like they are my flock."
"So the idea of removing it or closing it now, seems… Wrong to me." The Filolial Queen concludes.
Misato takes a breath, relaxing himself. "Do you want to do anything before part ways?" He asks, but he has a good guess on what Fitoria's last request might be."
Fitoria gives Misato a small smile, she hugs him, burrowing her head into his stomach. "I would like to stay by your side for one more night."
Misato smiles, rubbing Fitoria's head. "Of course, whatever her majesty wishes." He teases and Fitoria looks up to him with a small smile.
Misato stood in front of his Phone's picture of his parents and friends on the tree, speaking to them, what he plans to do and promises to succeed.
Meanwhile Keel and Rifana were packing up, preparing themselves for the long dangerous journey. Ace was saying goodbye to his family, he lay on the ground with several small filolials on top of him.
Misato bows deeply to his family and friends, after a minute he stands up and takes the phone, turning it off. He turns around to see Fitoria waiting for him.
"What is it?" Misato asks, it can't be to say goodbye since earlier Fitoria said she wished to do it outside of the Sanctuary.
"I wish for you to put Forrest's soul at ease by speaking to him about your plan" FItoria answers.
The Gun Hero nods "Alright." Fitoria then guides Misato to the grave of his predecessor.
"Place this badge on his tombstone and speak with him." The Filolial Queen says, handing Misato the worn out badge.
Misato looks at the badge, rubbing the dents and scratches. Even with magic made to make things last, Fitoria must have maintained it well to still exist. He gently places the badge against Forrest's tombstone.
The New Gun Hero speaks to his predecessor, explaining his plan, the knowledge Misato has to his advantage thanks to Forrest for keeping his true identity a secret, allowing Misato to work from the shadows to break heroes' delusions, and unite them to open the door.
"I hope that one day… I will make you proud Mr. Smith." Misato says. "Thank you…" He bows deeply for a minute. He then carefully moves to grab the badge off the tombstone, not wanting to break anything.
Misato grabs the badge, and suddenly, his vision turns black.
Misato opens his eyes and sees a man in his early 40s, with pure white hair, and a full beard. He had blue eyes, something about the man seems familiar. It was until the old man turned his back on Misato, showing a black gun on his back waist, similar to a Glock, with a blue crystal orb on it.
Seeing the gun, Misato realizes the man he was seeing was an older Forrest Smith, far older than the recordings he watched. He watches the man approach Fitoria, she looks exactly the same, but she seems happier.
"Hello Mr. Forrest!" Fitoria says cheerfully. Something about her mannerism and her eyes made her look younger, more alive. Unlike the Fitoria Misato mostly knows, who looked more tired and older than the Fitoria he is currently seeing.
The Previous Gun Hero smiles rubbing her head. "Hello Fitoria." He says.
"How is progress with building the weapon today?" Fitoria asks.
Forrest rubs the back of his head. "It's slow but good, eventually, the weapon will be complete."
"Will you have enough time to play with Fitoria?" The Filolial Queen says in third person, like Filo, slightly frowning.
Forrest pauses, staring at her, his blue eyes filled with uncertainty. "Fitoria, I might get too old to play with you. I'm not getting any younger."
"Fitoria doesn't like this plan…" Fitoria admits with a large frown. Her action reminds Misat of the Fitoria he knows. "Why can't Mr. Forrest live forever like Fitoria?"
The Previous Gun Hero shakes his head. "But I'm not like you, Fitoria, I can't live forever."
Fitoria whines, hugging Forrest's stomach. "Fitoria doesn't want to forget you and everyone else…"
"But with the tablet, you won't." Forrest says, trying to reassure the Filolial Queen.
"What if Fitoria breaks it?"
"You won't."
Fitoria shakes her head. "But Mr. Forrest said, 'Sometimes accidents happen.' "
"I did huh…" Forrest murmurs, he looks at Fitoria. He raises his hand and the badge appears. Unlike the present, the badge had far less scratches and dents on it. "Fitoria." He says kneeling.
"What's this shiny thing?" Fitoria asks.
"This is a Police badge, back in my world it is, I guess you can say a symbol for people who protect other people in towns. Like a guard." Forrest says.
"So Mr. Forrest was already a Hero before he became the Gun Hero." Fitoria says in awe.
"Well, I wouldn't really say that…"
"But Mr. Forrest wanted to help people before, so that makes Mr. Forrest a Hero before the Gun summoned him!"
"I guess so…" Forrest mutters, smiling. He hands Fitoria the badge. "I want you to keep it, for luck and a way to remember me."
"But, how could this thing help me remember?" Fitoria says, confused.
"A precious gift from someone you love… I heard it can evoke strong emotions, so maybe even when the person has forgotten, the feelings would still remain."
Fitoria's red eyes shine "Really? Okay! Fitoria will take good care of it!~"
"I know you will, you are the best girl in the world-
Forrest's voice turns into static and Misato's vision turns black again.
"Misato!" Fitoria says, shaking the current Gun Hero.
Misato blinks and shakes his head. "R-right uh, what happened?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing. You touched the badge, suddenly you froze, and the crystal orb on the gun started to shine." Fitoria says. "Even when I was shaking you, you didn't respond to me for a few minutes."
Misato looks at the badge in his hands. "I think, I had a vision of Forrest-"
"Tell me what you saw…" Fitoria states, looking directly into Misato's amber eyes. Her hands were tight on his shoulders, almost crushing him.
"Fitoria, you're hurting me…"
"Ah! Sorry."
When Fitoria lessened her grip, the Current Gun Hero spoke about his predecessor, about when Forrest gave Fitoria his badge.
Hearing Misato describe it, tears fell off of Fitoria's face.
"Fitoria?"
The Filolial Queen shakes her head and wipes away the tears. "Don't worry, in fact, thank you, you helped me remember something precious once again…" Fitoria says, giving Misato a small smile with watery eyes.
"So that means I somehow saw Forrest and you in the past…" Misato concludes.
Fitoria's face shifts to a more serious expression "But it is strange, for you to suddenly see Forrest and myself… I don't think any Hero has experienced something like that before… Is there anything else you can tell me?" Fitoria asks
Misato frowns looking at his HUD, seeing a pop up window but the text was a mess, he could barely make out the words.

"Fitoria, can you inspect the gun?" Misato asks. "Whatever happened, I can't read what new series I unlocked. Is it a curse?"
Fitoria places her hand on the Gun, she closes her eyes, her hands glow, and the blue light pulses like a heartbeat. After about thirty seconds, she stops, Fitoria frowns. "It is not a curse but there is something strange growing inside the Gun."
"Is it a bad feeling?"
"No, it's not bad but I have not sensed this in a weapon before."
"Maybe you have forgotten it?" Misato suggests.
Fitoria shakes her head. "Feeling energy from within a weapon is not easy to forget, so this is new to me as well."
Misato frowns, this new series raises a few questions and concerns. What was the first condition he had met? What is the second condition required? And more importantly… What will happen when this Gun Series reaches 100%?
Hello, you have reached the end of this chapter. I have more to add to it but then I saw the length and realized it should be in the next chapter instead. Thank you so much for your support and suggestions. So many reviews of the same type of suggestions that I almost think it's the same person with different accounts and guest reviews.
Retcon again, I decide to make Misato's affinity only Fire, Darkness and light. Lighting/Thunder was a bit much. Gun Hero or not.
So in regards to Fitoria, you are right, Misato isn't the type who is interested in children or people who look like children. IF Fitoria falls in love with Misato, she would have to go through some changes.
Also, lots of romantic partner suggestions for Misato, most frequent character suggestions, are Sadeena and S'yne. I'm not certain what to think about these 2 girls, I read their Wikis and sure I like S'yne Lokk's design. But the Wiki doesn't really give much insight to their character, I don't have free access to the light novels and I don't want to buy them. I guess if I were to introduce them, I would need to watch them in the show to get a good idea of their personalities. Reading the summary of the character's personality is not good enough for me.
I can understand that, for a Misato and Sadeena pairing, they feel guilt for what they lost and failure to protect them. They can bond and heal each other's wounds.
As for S'yne, she is a survivor of her homeworld being destroyed, just like Misato's Predecessor, Forrest. It is possible that Misato might have a permanent solution to Syne's decay, since the Gun has survived this long. But the Wiki sucked at describing her personality, all I got was S'yne behaves like a dandere, but actually she is slowly dying and her ability to talk is limited. She might have romantic feelings for Naofumi? (Raphtalia: "Not another one!")
Harem? Uhhhhh I don't think so, I feel like I would be that overrated fanfic author who just writes harem stories and not come up with creative ideas or circumstances of why the romance is blossoming and not write enough content to justify the harem. Seriously, WHY are there so many?!
And I don't want the fanfic to be about the MC being soooo cool, badass and perfect. And All the other guys are dumb and horrible, or are already taken and that leaves the MC with all the bitches.
If I did do more than one love interest, it would be 2 girls at most. Because adding more is too much for me to write and you saw my first reasons.
Also, at least when it comes to making Misato possibly become a badass Hero, I don't want to screw up, I want to sort of justify why he could be, but I am a newbie, I don't have a beta reader, so I don't know if I'm good or cringe. So in the future, if I mess up please don't take the cringe at heart.
I certainly never wrote romance before. The only thing I know is there would have to be decent build up between the two characters. I am not writing it in a few chapters, it might take several small hints of it to build up across the entire series. Other than that, the details of falling in love is a new experience for me to write. Plus romance should definitely not be the main focus of this story.
Another thing, people really like the idea of Misato dual wielding Legendary Gun with Vassal katana or Mirror. I mean I could make up some really cool BS reasons on why Misato could wield a second weapon with the Gun because… The Rule of Cool Runs Everything…
But the only canon info I got is that when Naofumi and Itsuki's legendary weapons got suppressed, temporarily disabling them, it allowed the Vassal Weapons to leap in and help the heroes. It doesn't necessarily mean they were dual wielding the two weapons, it was more like a temporary replacement. Sure they could have been that weapon's hero if they weren't the Cardinal heroes but still, it doesn't really prove they can dual wield. I don't know if I will do that in the future.
Plus having Raphtalia go from Naofumi's sword to Naofumi's hammer is kind of a downgrade. She has spent most of her time wielding a sword and suddenly she gets forcibly bound to the Vassal Hammer and has to relearn all those skills with this new weapon? Maybe that's why Raphtalia became the Katana Hero in the light novel.
Anyway, the next chapter would most likely be sort of an interlude Chapter where I write multiple perspectives of certain characters. Plus an omake I sort of want to do, maybe.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!
